Finally, a good place for dim sum that still uses the push carts and can speak Vietnamese vice Chinese. The parking is terrible. The spaces are small and narrow. The lot is located across the street from Phuoc Loc Tho. You can enter from the bottom floor then take the stairs to the second floor. There's an elevator if you have strollers or an elder. It took about 15 minutes before we were seated. We were lucky to have all the push carts coming our way and we were able to order all of our go-tos  in just 2 rounds. The dim sum was great but we came here on a Sunday and was on the waitlist for almost 3 hours from 11:30 am. Yelp waitlist wouldn't let us sign on until we were within 20 miles of the restaurant. This place is located in a very busy strip mall so parking is limited. Once seated we were able to order and get our food right away. They didn't ask if we wanted hot tea so I thought it was complimentary just to find out later we were charged $3 for 4 people when only 3 out of 6 in my party drank it. The siu mai and har gow are my personal favorites, along with some broccoli to top it all off. Other than the dim sum we order the Hong Kong noodles (crispy pan fried noodles) and the gravy was not that good. We got shrimp fried rice and that was okay, nothing crazy. Also got Peking duck, the flavor on the duck was not what I was expecting. So overall the place did not live up the expectations. The only good thing that I liked was the shu mai. The number one spot for dim sum in OC area hands down. I love Seafood Cove 1 & 2 but this place is where you go to get some of the best dim sum. I love the whole atmosphere of coming down and sitting down where the aunties push around the cart asking you what you want. The bustling and loud restaurant brings back great memories. Seafood Cove #2 is on the second floor, located in a very busy plaza across the street from the Asian Garden Mall. Before, waiting in line for a table during peak hours could be as long as an hour or two here. But now since they're only doing takeouts there is no line. I came early around 8:45 AM to place an order for some dim sum since it sounded so good. Once you arrive there, go ahead and pick up the piece of paper they have in the little container they have. Mark all items you want, write your name and phone number and then go ahead and give it to the lady in the front. She'll go ahead and call your name when your order is ready. I made the mistake of assuming that since I came early they weren't going to be as busy, but I was wrong. They were still getting a ton of phone orders left and right and they were hustling to get all the orders fulfilled. It took maybe about 30 minutes for the order to be finished. Once they call your name, you'll go ahead and pay and then you're all set! Notes for if you come: 1) stay near the front because they'll call your name. I made the assumption that they were going to call my phone number since they asked for it but they did not. I was glad I went back to check up on the order since it was a pretty long wait. 2) Make sure that they give you all the sauces you need. They're usually very good about it but they are busy and can potentially forget. 3) They currently don't offer all items on the menu & some items are only offered during lunch time. 4) Call ahead so you can save yourself some wait time! The menu pictures can be seen below so you can place your order ahead of time. Overall, the dim sum quality is still the same as before! We came here for dinner to celebrate my nephew's first communion. The restaurant is extremely spacious and is located on the second floor. I've eaten here a few times many years ago, but don't really remember much about the food. Our table decided on the family meal that consisted of crabmeat and asparagus soup, clams with black bean sauce, salt and pepper shrimp, the house special squid, kung pao chicken, and fried whole fish. That wasn't enough food, so we added Peking duck and salt n pepper wings too. Rice is not included, so we had to order some as well. While we were waiting for our food to arrive, I munched on the complimentary peanuts that was on the table. Once the first course arrived, the rest of the food came out pretty fast. Overall, there wasn't any particular dish that stood out to me, but my favorites were the shrimp and Peking duck. The wings were way too greasy! My older sister gave us some of their tofu that they ordered and it was pretty tasty. She said that their hot pot is really good, so maybe I'll try that next time. Service was okay. They weren't too friendly and just came by to put the entrees on the table. At the end of the meal, we also get complimentary dessert soups. Definitely a different kind of experience in dining - "Aunties" come around pushing carts with a wide selection of freshly ready to serve plates. Depending on the time and day, the wait time can range anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour! (Thankfully we only had an approximately 30 minute wait.) Not long after having been seated at our table, a waiter came over and asked us if we were ready to place our orders. Luckily, this was not my Dad's first Rodeo and he already knew what to order. We found this place on Yelp with great views, then decided to come here for a weekend dim sum. We purposely arrived for a late lunch ~ 2pm, but there were still some people waiting outside. We were so surprised how popular this place this, but super excited that we are eating here! Turns out, they actually have plenty of tables inside, but they are just slowly letting people in. As soon as we sat down, the waitress came to greet us and offered to take our orders. They only have a few items, mostly sweet and dessert, on the cart. Most of savory items are not on the cart. I am not sure if this is how they operate or it's because we arrive late for lunch. We started with the classic items Har Gow, Sui Mai, Turnip Cake, and shrimp roll. I really loved all the items we had. The flavors are great and authentic. For the second round of items, we had pork ribs, sweet tofu, and egg tarts. Again, they are all very good. I loved the sweet tofu with ginger syrup, which was authentic and fresh silky soft tofu. We didn't know they close the restaurant for lunch at 3 pm. Unfortunately, we felt being rushed to finish lunch. I will certainly come back next time, but hopefully to try their dinner or allow more time for dim sum. read more

What if there was a Coachella celebration of Chinese food in a warehouse clogged with K-Mart Shoppers? Crawl upstairs and press your nose against the window because you've arrived. The room is upstairs and the size of a football field, lit up like the Super Bowl and as busy as The Golden Week when the Chinese Government pays you to stay off work and eat for free. Well, it ain't free here, but you'd think it was by the crowds dining and waiting to get in. Pictures of what to eat adorn the walls interspersed with aquariums containing lobsters and fish waiting to swim that last mile and meet their maker...who's standing in the kitchen with a cleaver. The restaurant has all the charm of a Shanghai Costco, but who cares, you came for the seafood Chinese/Vietnamese/Thai style as the kitchen hedges their bets. The Vibe: Jammed as Beijing Station. Families small, medium, large and in the making. Come at 6:00 PM and sit down immediately. Come at 6:30 and it's an hour wait outside if your lucky. I kept thinking about the Chicago balcony collapse and worried that the 100 or so minglers mingling on the veranda would all start doing the Mexican Hat Dance in unison. Me and my House Special Lobster would be waiting for the sniffer dogs under the rubble. There is a wild herd of wee ones too that pick at and poke the seafood for a while while their Amah eats. Then they begin to fidget, squirm and wiggle until they bust loose and run amok like stampeding baby buffalo through the restaurant. (Hey, cheaper than a sitter, no?) How nice if a few of the wildest ones were tossed in a bucket and presented to the Catfish in the holding tank to see if they wanted a small urchin as a Death Row meal. The Staff: Affable teens racing around like Pachinko Balls. The Food: Seafood is the draw. Is it the best? You'd think so with half the hood desperate to dine here. But its nothing stellar or daring. After all the fish and shellfish options numb the brain reading through the Tax Code sized menu, there are some of the Chinese restaurant usual suspects. Orange Chicken and Sweet and Sour Pork. Caveat: There is no rhyme or reason as to what and when it comes out of the kitchen. Its like ramming the rack to start a game of Pool. Appetizers come out at the end of the meal and basically everything hurdles at you like baseballs in a broken batting cage. The goal is to flip the table like pancakes as many times as possible each night. So, prepare to eat, burp and bolt. The Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings were screamin' hot from the fryer and very good. Sprinkled with Scallions and Garlic bits it hits the spot and great to keep that cold Tsingtao good company. The Salt and Pepper Riblets (I couldn't decide between both the bar nibbles, so when in doubt...order both. It's a party. Why not?) These nubbins were embryonic versions of the Salt and Pepper Pork Chops and none of them had any Salt or White Pepper to pinch and dust. Okay, so what? They were all crispy and who doesn't just get weak for that. Crispy dust bunnies? Two orders of that please. The Kung Pao Scallops were a disappointment. Baby Scallops that were over wokked to a mushy pile. I suppose the dry Diver Scallops probably would have exceeded the wholesale price point. Pass on this one. The Sauteed Green Beans were just that. Nothing less and nothing more. Yes, they were nicely cooked, snappy and green beany but mainly supplied vegetable matter if that matters to you. Next came the Salt and Pepper Pork Chops (The Riblet's Mother.) A Deep Fried Stack of crunchy. Crisp is America's favorite flavor. Just go to a State Fair and see what they offer? Deep Fried Butter...yup, the Iowa State Fair has it, if you need to show your heart who's runnin' the night club. Now, did I mention that the portions are huge? Think Claim Jumper goes out for Chinese. The Maggi Chicken was interesting and tasty if you like chicken and Maggi. Go to Vons, buy a rotisserie chicken and splash Maggi on it when you get home. Voila, you're a regular Martin Yan now. The Flounder with Two Sauces required a surgical residency to yank the small amount of meat from the bones. There were less bones in the La Brea Tar Pits. Ultimately, the Flounder was not worth the effort. Let the Flounder die of natural causes. The House Special Lobster was the ubiquitous presentation. A waiter brings a bucket and shows it to you. It's kinda cute. You wonder if it's time to go all Vegan. You name it with a wan smile and avert your eyes and say a sheepish goodbye. And then it reappears in a battered heap over a hill of noodles. You'll forget that moments ago it was Larry and you were the Governor and didn't bother to call the Warden. And so you eat it and realize you can get this everywhere all over town. The Tea will be as weak and cold as you first spouse. Overall, Seafood Cove 2 is just somewhere to hove to when it's Chinese instead of Mexican. read more

Come around 9 on weekdays to be seated almost ASAP or when the restaurant opens on weekends bc the line is long and the wait can be anywhere from 30-50 minutes. The dim sum carts make the rounds all the time but sometime they will make skips and that's when you have to wave them down to get to you. Some of my faves: xiu mai, har gow, banh cuon tom, chicken feed, shrimp balls, fried taro with egg, egg tart, salty egg buns. This was a solid place for dim sum place. Not the BEST ever but has a decent selection. It is also not a dim sum place, they do have dim sum in the menu but that's not the focus of this restaurant. There's a drink cart a rice roll cart and I think a congee cart, but most of the dim sum is order by menu. Peking duck takes about 20 mins. It comes with the fluffy buns instead of pancakes. The line on the weekends gets LONG. Get on the waitlist early. It's about an hour if you go between 10-11 and starts getting longer. I've seen a 2 hour wait around noon and the balcony is packed with people all down the shopping center. People mob this place in packs of 10 and more, so good news they can accommodate large parties for dim sum and regular finding. It's one of those fancy venue places where you could have a wedding banquet. read more

Loud clunks we're heard. The second one cleared our dishes; some which still had food in them AND as I was getting food out of it. WTF!!! Everything was soggy and the tofu skin made me nauseous. They barely paid any attention to us and when I kept getting ignored when I was trying to get water. When we tried cancelling one of our orders that had not come yet, they told us we have to tell our specific waitress. Love this place that I wanted to support by doing take out. I truly have missed dim sum. I do however have qualms about my takeout experience. I know it's an Asian restaurant and you should always check your order before leaving but the set up is behind the plexi glass so it felt rude to ask the waitress to open it all up and show me, plus the bag was towering so I did figure it should all be in there and she read my order back to me. By the time I make my 40 minute trek home (I really did go out of my way to get this meal) I open it all up and of course 2 orders are missing. I checked my receipt which charged me for 10 items total but only got 8 items, 1 of which was the wrong order as well. I did call back but they won't refund bc they don't have my card, plus I wouldn't trust them to have my card information. So I got charged an extra $10 plus tax. I also tipped based on the total amount which again was missing 2 items. Leaving this comment as a record since the guy told me he'd give me credit based on my name and phone number. My husband thinks they took down my name and number and threw it away after thinking I won't come back for it, but I will! I still love this place and will always drive the distance for it, but hopefully I've learned my lesson about takeout and will check the order. We arrived late(around 2:30) and they had us seated quickly and a food truck was at our table within 25 seconds with all the dim sum we needed: chicken feet, tripe, steamed pork buns, sticky rice, shiu mai, cheun fan and some other typical dim sum. The decor inside is beautiful with a golden dragon and Phoenix in the back. The staff were helpful, friendly and attentive of our needs at all times. Seafood cove is always a must when ever you are around bolds avenue. I always stop hear when I first arrive in OC for some brunch. They do not have the dim sum carts that roll around anymore however, you are given a menu where you select all of the dishes and quantity you like and the order is placed immediately. It takes fairly quick, probably arrived within 10 minutes for me (I visited on a Thursday late noon). The food was not too salty or sweet, I felt like some do the dishes might been sitting out for at least an hour or 2 and rewarmed so a few of them didn't have that fresh taste, however the tripe, chicken feet, and shiu mai were delicious. For the price, they are inexpensive compared to many other dim sum spots in OC. I would visit them again. read more
