Came here for drinks and the vibe ! It was recommended by the bartender next door . We were so happy to find out there was a hidden tikki bar . It's super cute and spacious inside too! (You have to go into Shannon's Irish pub then walk down the stairs ) What a fun place ! its totally speak easy vibes and they were doing karaoke. Can't really speak on service or food as we just came in for a quick drink . But ide deff be back !

The place is so beautiful! I love how secretive it is! We decided to go on a jazz night and it was amazing.the drinks were incredible and not that pricey!the workers are also very welcoming and match the vibe of the place

Next to Shannon's Corner, downstairs and around to the side door lies this not so secret bar. I love a good hidden Tiki Bar and this one is pretty darn good. Shared the Island Fishbowl. Overall a great experience. Wouldn't mind going again to try out more drinks. It was pretty empty but we went on a random Thursday before 7pm. Got served pretty quickly but just really got out drinks and that was it.

We can't stand enough about this place, and keep recommending it to others. We went for a concert, coming all the way from St. Louis. What a great experience this tiki bar was, from the unique entrance to the decor, to showing my favorite show Gilligan's Island. The staff was amazing, and really enjoyed lighting. My drinks on fire for me. The food was very good. When we come out this way, we will definitely be coming back.

Even though I had been here before, I still missed it when I walked by it. So double check the address and directions before you try to find Secret Island. It is within walking distance of the convention center. At 5:30 on a Monday night, there were more bartenders than patrons. I ordered the Zombie which was good, but I should have asked for more rum in it. The ambiance has not changed. It is still a nice looking tiki bar. It is worth checking out.

Was in Long Beach and came across this place, sounded fun so we decided to go check it out. First, walking into the venue, a lot of fun, thunder and lightening, tiki items, feeling like you're going through some old jungle, just fun. Inside is more of that same tiki vibe for about half the venue, the other half is set up with a large TV to watch games as well as an area for karaoke. Now, to what matters, the drinks. Drinks were delicious. Even the Zombie, which typically has around four different rums in it, with one being over proof rum, was flavorful. And the Lapu Lapu bowl hit, and stayed flavorful despite ice melting. Never felt watered down at any point. The food was fairly straightforward. We tried a few items with the sliders, fries and coconut shrimp. The shirt best was decent while in a Hawaiian room, the shrimp was also decent, very fried and crispy, while the fries had a different cut to them and came with ketchup and ranch. For really wasn't memorable but the drinks were great. Definitely a good find in Long Beach if you're looking for a time bar with a nice vibe and tasty cocktails.

I love a tiki bar, and this little Long Beach hidden spot is a good one. There are no signs for this place, you just have to know it's under Shannon's on Pine. We went at 8:30 on a Sunday night, so it was pretty quiet, although parties were coming and going. They've done a great job with the theming--it looks very Polynesian. There's is a fun lava throne, Lord of bamboo, and lots of tiki totums. It was decorated up for Halloween, but the look was still definitely tiki. And when the thunderstorm hits and the lights flash, notice the lava lines on the floor! You go up and other and pay at the bar, then someone will bring your drinks and food. We ordered: *Zombie (cocktail) *Drunken Monkey (cocktail) *Floor is Lava (cocktail) *Loco Moco x2 *Kalua BBQ pulled pork sliders We all really liked our drinks--the Floor Is Lava was delish!!! We enjoyed our food, too, especially the sliders. We have been here before and will come back again. It's a fun time!

Went here last minute and we got in right away! We ordered 3 drinks, I think we ordered the Drunken Money, Pineapple Express (?), and Hibiskiss! It was so fun here and very loud and bright. There was a live band playing Christmas music which was so cool. I don't think this is a place where you can really talk, more like chill and drink with your friends because it's so loud. It can also be overwhelming for people who are sensitive. We also got 2 pulled pork buns and fries. They were good for a party of 3. Overall, fun place and vibes. *On the bottom floor of Shannon's!*

Arguably the very best tiki bar in Southern CA. Look for a stairway going downstairs in front of Shannon's in downtown Long Beach. You'll find the entry door next to a cool waterfall surrounded by lush tropical greenery as thunder booms and lightning flashes. Once through the door you'll find a large bar and many tables surrounded by decor that provide the tiki atmosphere you hope for. It's dark but not overly so. I was there on a weekday shortly after opening so it was happy hour and on the quiet side. Well, not exactly quiet as the sound system was blasting both punk and classic rock. On weekends they have live music and a lively crowd. The bartenders were friendly and spoke to me about the upcoming entertainment for the month as well as past events. I ordered a house cocktail - Ron's Rum Runner. Banana, cherry, coconut, raspberry, and lime along with plenty of rum made this a spectacularly wonderful tiki drink. This place knows how to make a cocktail that'll make your eyes light up. I also ordered pork sliders from the happy hour food menu. These 3 sliders were simple but tasty with delicious pulled pork and slaw between Hawaiian rolls. If you like tiki bars or just need something fun and different, this is it. I absolutely love this place and will definitely be back.

Rockabilly and tiki - the collab that everyone needs. Much like the pulled pork sliders and fries which were absolutely delicious. Place is located below Shannon's, with meter parking throughout their downtown area. As you go downstairs, their oasis set up just before the entrance is cool with lightening and thunder, making for a cool entrance. We sat towards the front of the bar to get a view of the band but not too close to their speakers. Ive been to a few tiki bars and this one was far better than the others. It was also perfectly dim/lit. Sometimes i felt like others were too dark. Def a must place to check out if you are even in long beach.

I absolutely loved this bar! I loved the tiki theme and all the decor they had. The guy bartenders were very good while the lady bartender acted like the didn't want to be bothered . I love they had a live band for music and a small space for people to dance. We did not order any food this time just came for drinks. Prices were reasonable and drinks were very yummy. Will be coming back here for more .

Went on a Saturday night. The band was so fantastic and perfectly fit the vibe. They were entertaining to listen to, watch, and dance to. Our drinks were so fun and tasty (I recommend both fish bowls) and our server, Brent, went above and beyond for our experience. Would 100% spend another night out there!

Fun tiki bar in the basement of a bar on Pine in downtown Long Beach. We came around the holidays and they had a fun band playing. The drinks are great too

Yes it's correct. It is open from Wednesday to Sunday. The address is the same as Shannon's because it is right under Shannon's on Pine. You would need to go like you were actually going into the bar but soon as you pass security you would be…

The Lagoon has a speakeasy style entrance. Once you enter Midnight Oil, walk towards the end of the bar and look for a wooden mask on the door. Push on the left side of the door, and you will enter The Lagoon. This is definitely a small room with eight seats at the bar, three seats against each wall, and a long narrow table in the middle. Creature from the Black Lagoon décor includes some artwork and figures, and lots of greenery on the walls. Tiki décor includes various lamps, puffer fish, ropes, netting, and coconuts. There is also some leftover décor from the "Roadkill" pop-up they had in the room last year. We stopped by at 8pm on a Wednesday night, and we were the only ones in the room for our 30 minute visit which is always a little strange. We sat at the bar and scanned the QR code to look at the menu. The cocktail menu is very small with only seven cocktails, three frozen cocktails, and one mocktail. There are also around a dozen food items and a dim sum menu. I had the Monkey Delight cocktail (Hamilton 86 rum, Amontillado Sherry, Kin-a-Peel banana, lemon, $14). It was very boozy with a very light banana flavor. She had the Mexican Pharmacy cocktail (Tequila 1800 Coconut, Tequila 1800 Blanco, Pineapple, Coconut, Orange, $14). This was really good with a nice mix of coconut and pineapple flavor. I wouldn't have guessed it was a tequila cocktail. The drinks are reasonably priced at $13 to $15 with only the Old Fashioned costing $17. The food items are also reasonably priced, but we ate earlier in the evening. I didn't catch her name, but our bartender who was going back and forth between The Lagoon and The Apothecary was friendly and checked on us often. It was cool to stop by and check it out, but the room and drink menu are very small, so I don't see us coming back.

We stopped by late Saturday night and were able to snag an immediate walk-in at the bar at Hao Peng You, which is the intimate speakeasy portion of Midnight Oil. The decor definitely reminded me of my grandparents' house in Taiwan, with vintage, ornate wooden chairs, dragon/lion statue carvings, and even a historic century old marital bed that had been repurposed into a booth. The drinks were also VERY unique, with my favorite being Hua sheng (literally meaning peanut), which was crafted from a nostalgic childhood peanut milk drink. All our cocktails were crafted very well, to the point where I thought they were a bit on the lighter side since I couldn't really taste the alcohol. This section does get really busy though and only had one bartender who is making/serving drinks and taking orders, so do expect a bit of a wait. Overall, highly recommend checking out this vibey vintage Taiwanese-inspired speakeasy (that my inner history nerd was so excited about), and I'll definitely be back to try their food items as well as their two other bar/restaurant concepts!

Definitely worth it! The vibes are unmatched. It's a unique blend of "top notch cocktail crafting" and "beer and a hot pretzel after work." Incredible knowledge and ingredients but not snooty patootie. Super inclusive and fun, with cool popups and events happening all the time. It's clear the owners put a lot of thought and creativity into making their cocktails the centerpiece of the experience. That said, the execution didn't live up to the concept. The menu appears to rotate regularly, and while the drinks were certainly unique, most of the cocktails we tried were hit or miss. At roughly $22 per drink, I expected more balance and refinement. One cocktail started with flavors reminiscent of an Old Fashioned, but after the initial sip, the combination of bitters and fruit syrups created an unpleasant cough syrup like finish. We tried a mocktail as well, and it was mostly ice and soda water, with what seemed like a collection of syrups doing most of the heavy lifting. The drinks were creative, but many of the flavor profiles felt disjointed rather than intentional. The biggest issue, however, was the bar service and sanitation practices. I watched a bartender place a cucumber garnish into a glass using his bare hands, touching the entire garnish in the process. He then continued to take credit cards, cash, and other items before stuffing ice into additional drinks with his bare hands. Whether or not this technically violates health code standards, it certainly wasn't appetizing to watch and left a poor impression. Parking is another challenge. There is no dedicated parking, and unless you get lucky, expect to park several blocks away and walk. Overall, the atmosphere is a lot of fun and the cocktail menu is ambitious, but the drinks didn't justify the price point, and the sanitation concerns were hard to overlook. I wouldn't rush back, especially given the cost and parking difficulties.

At first, she only offered 10% off and a slice of birthday cake, which was honestly insulting considering we couldn't even eat the meal. What made the experience even worse was that she tried to justify the poor quality by saying we came in late and that the food isn't the same at that time. That's simply not an acceptable excuse. If a restaurant is open and serving customers, the quality of the food should be consistent no matter what time you walk in. They've a waterfront location with the most lush environs and sumptuous atmosphere. Dark & tranquil with a hint of sexy and the bay views - come on now. The menu is so fresh and bursting with Asian flavors, and nothing was too heavy. Do try the hoisin ribs - so tender - and the chicken wraps, which were so bright; the burger was also a hit. For the table, the Buddha Rice - hearty and perfect to split. Their staff was all fantastic and it starts at the top. Manager Joe brings a genuine touch to every guest encounter -- he's rich for conversation, so grab him when he makes his rounds and allow him to suggest a fantastic wine pairing. Beautiful service all around. Also worth noting: while they're perfect for enjoying date night, they can easily accommodate larger groups as well. It may have been a rehearsal dinner or joint bachelor/ette they were hosting, but either way, they were entertaining a large party who were also having a blast. Wonderful energy, great vibes. Looking forward to visiting with friends soon!

He was attentive and warm, making us feel completely taken care of even with a packed house. :) Amanda was helpful and on top of everything, and Abe, one of the managers, always has a quiet, steady competence about him that makes the whole place feel grounded. The team works together beautifully. And the food! Gorgeous, generous portions, hot and perfectly executed even during the rush. Steve and I love Palapa. The Palapa team makes it feel like home (if home was overlooking the marina with palm trees in the foreground and people bringing us delicious food we didn't have to make ourselves). :)

Every single time I needed something, whether it was to order or ask for the check, I had to go up to the bar when my server was there to ask cuz I already waited hella. She was super nice so no complaints in that regards, just not good at checking in with our table at all. Even getting a menu took forever. Idk if it's cuz they're short staffed but the service def needs to be improved. The poke was well seasoned and fish was fresh. Great shareable item. I would come back again cuz I liked my friends drinks that I tried (def would not get the lavender yuzu martini again), the food, and the outdoor seating vibes. Docking stars for service and cuz how bad my martini tasted. Hopefully it's a better overall experience next time.
