I've gone here basically since they've opened and it's a decent shabu place to go to. The prices are definitely the best around the area for AYCE. It is a casual restaurant, so no need to dress up. They don't take reservations and you have to join their yelp waitlist to get seated (even if they're empty). Service has always been good. Nothing stand out good or bad. I typically only get the toro (it's personally the best meat IMO). The cuts have been very inconsistent even in one sitting, which can be frustrating. I also mainly get the tonkatsu broth and that is also very inconsistent. The broth can be a bit bland at times which effects the rest of the experience. read more

Okay, I am leaving a review for a specific staff named "Christine," if that is her real name and the management. She was absolutely unprofessional: extremely rude, and aggressive. The rest of the workers seemed scared of that specific lady and avoiding to confront her with such demeanors. I almost called the cops on her. I made a reservation for 5:30pm on Sunday night. When I arrived at the restaurant, it was super hot so I waited inside the lobby/reception area with my group. We were talking here and there but there was no sign of complaints or whatsoever. The hostess kept telling us "1 more minute" multiple times to me and the two parties before us. My instinct told me things were not right but I waited my first 30-40mins knowing I was there to celebrate the night with my special guests and I am not to ruining any of it. Then I heard that lady named Christine grumbling under her breath, along the line how it is hot inside and people should go outside to wait. If she asked everyone in the waiting area to go outside directly, I know would have taken my group out although it was hot, and despite the fact that hostess repeated "1 more minute," multiple times. It was then when I asked the hostess how much longer will my party have to wait after 50mins-1 hr of waiting, (there was no point of making reservation after that much of a wait.. it was way past 6:30pm) that Christine lady escorted us to a large table and THREW the menu at us with such an angry face. My whole party was surprised and shocked at her demeanor. Was my long wait inconvenienced her? After she threw the menu booklets at us, she stormed off to the meat section. So I went up to go find her and she would not turn towards me, and another staff reluctantly told me that lady's name is Christine and quickly walked away. EXTREME Red Flag. So I found Christine once more and tried talking to her. I genuinely wanted to ask what the problem was. She started raising her voice to the point everyone around us was now watching, and she screamed, "DON'T TOUCH ME!" I went back to my table to tell my group to leave immediately. It was a nonsense for me and my party to be treated like this for waiting 90minutes at that point. Then a gentleman who claimed to be "another manager" came to us to apologize multiple times before he refused to service my party and asked us to leave. There was zero explanation of what had happened, just "sorry" multiple times then asked to leave. I took my party to a Japanese restaurant nearby but the night was ruined. Better than how it was during their grand opening a few years ago! I'm so glad they have a waitlist where you're able to anticipate when you'll be seated and plan accordingly, accurately! Last time, we were quoted 45 minutes but ended up waiting 2 hours so that was not pleasant at all. The restaurant is SO spacious and the servers are attentive with reordering and bringing food out to you quickly. They are very strict on the 90 minute mark but DO remind you at the 15 minute mark that it's almost last call. The cuts of meat are very thin, but they do come out quickly and you're also able to reorder just as quick so you'll never feel like you won't have enough. The buffet line where you're able to grab your seafood, sauce, and veggies also help with the hunger, and staff was quick to refill anything that went low! Unlimited all you can eat for 30 bucks?! I have come to shabuya a few times now and it's a decent hot pot restaurant! The ayce is for 1.5 hours which is quite a lot of time to get in a lot of meats. My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday around 8pm and we had to waitlist. It didn't take long at all and we were seated within 15-20 minutes. I got the original house broth and my boyfriend got the sukiyaki broth. The sukiyaki broth is a bit on the sweeter side. For appetizers we got the gyoza and volcano chicken kaarage. Both were good but I like the volcano chicken kaarage more because the chicken is good and the sauce has quite a spice to it. For meats our favorites are 1-6. They cook in the broths quickly and you can dip it in your own diy sauce from the sauce bar. The bar also has other things such as quail eggs, corn, veggies, different noodles, seafoods, etc. It's a pretty decent variety for the price you're paying. Service is always great when I come and they are all very nice and attentive. They play loud popping music inside as well and everyone is just having a good time eating. Definitely worth the AYCE price! I got the spicy miso broth which is my go-to order at any hot pot restaurant. I ordered an assortment of meats (meats 1-4 on the menu) and was very impressed by the meat quality. I love that they had the buffet style set up for you to pick your own veggies. I've been looking for a quality place for some hot pot. My boys and I were due for a lunch get together, so I suggested Shabuya! Our party of five met at the parking lot, before they opened. There was already a line forming before 11am on a Saturday morning. Save yourself the trouble and use the Yelp waitlist function on the app to save yourself some time. You'll need to do the same thing in person at the restaurant. Once our table was ready, our hostess brought us there and gave us our menus. For a AYCE hot pot establishment, the menu and pricing was pretty decent. For my broth, I went with the tonkatsu. After picking my broth, I went over to the food bar to pickup some proteins and vegetables to put in my broth. The main meats we've went with were rib eye, toro, pork belly and flat iron steak. We did also the the appetizers of goyzas and all the chicken karaage. All the meats and vegetables were fresh tasting. The tonkatsu was flavorful. I did try a variety of noodles (udon, ramen, and egg). I stuck with ramen, since it was my favorite. The others were good too. We all did enjoy Shabuya. Most definitely will be back! read more

AYCE Shabu with Happy Hour pricing? I'll be there! We came around noontime during the weekday for their lunch hour special at $20.99 per person. We were required to sign up on their Yelp waitlist prior to being seated even though there was no line or wait. Ordering with the server was very quick and efficient. Our waiter checked in on us when we needed more rounds of the meat at the right time. The sukiyaki broth was also our favorite broth. We enjoyed the open bar full of sauces, seafood, noodles, and vegetables. Be sure to order rice with your waiter since it doesn't automatically come with the first round of orders. I have come here twice in total within one month apart each. First time for lunch, second time for dinner. I'll talk about dinner. Let's start with the pros: Relatively great price for AYCE style hot pot at $35/person roughly. For this price, you get an array of fantastic quality of beef cuts and amazing fried chicken appetizers. You can try them all without feeling guilty because it's all included but trust me, even the fried chicken is a great crunchy and flavorful treat, and the beef cuts are always a must order every time. Second: the salad, noodle and seafood bar in the middle! All sorts of different things to grab and eat which caters to all different kinds of eaters. They got instant noodles, udon, egg noodles, "glassy" noodles and rice noodles. Veggies and vegetarian options include tofu, broccoli, Napa cabbage, spinach, bok choy and bean sprouts. Seafood have fish tofu, fish balls, shrimp, clams, mussels, and fish slices. There's a cornucopia of sauces to make your own dip! Other than water, drinks both nonalcoholic and alcoholic are extras. Otherwise, the server we had named T-Dawg is attentive and quick. Our last set of beef plates came within one minute of ordering, believe it or not! We were shocked! Lastly, I've only found the sukiyaki soup is the only good choice. Other things to note: they were playing the NFL playoffs so the restaurant was average to loud. Not bad at all for this style of dinner. Now the cons: The soups were rather bland. The original house has some flavors but I wouldn't say it was tasty. The miso was alright, and the spicy version wasn't spicy at all which is disappointing. Avoid the tonkotsu flavor. That was the blandest thing I've had and it's a waste. The other thing to note is that I felt the front desk lady was rather standoffish. I came in. No parties in front of me, and three ladies at the front were talking amongst themselves. After one brief hello, they asked for my name which I answered plus my party size. They asked if everyone is here, and I said yes they just parked. In a bit of an annoyed tone, she replied back "well once your party has come through the door, we can seat you. Now go wait outside." If there is one thing that can ruin people's night, it's definitely the front staff. Be warned not to have the front desk lady get under your skin and ruin a good experience at an AYCE hot pot. read more

I'm able to finish a few bowls of my hot-pot (the original house broth is good) The spicy mayo however now has a lack of spice. That means that the Karage isn't as spicy now, adding no point to the spicy mayo. The meats are decent when dipped, but they only have a variety of beef choices; there is only one pork and chicken choice. The service is decent. A few times the orders have been incorrect. I understand it's an accident, but I hope they have better staff soon. They also say that this is an "all you can eat" Japanese hot-pot, where is it and is not an all you can eat. My aunt asked me if there was "Tom yum" here and I said there was no "Tom yum." Wish they clearly explained what they did and did not have. I have always seen a ton of people in line at Shabuya whenever I get boba at my fav shop next door. I was curious and saw some positive reviews online and that they offered a $19.99/person for a weekday lunch, which is unheard of in the Bay these days. I highly recommend putting yourself on the waitlist via Yelp before arriving. We went on an early Friday afternoon right before 1pm and I had put my name down before driving over. With 16 parties ahead of us, we still had to wait an additional 10 minutes upon arrival and were seated at 1:30pm. Unfortunately, we were seated in a back booth and quickly realized that the waiters were not coming to the back area much and had to flag them down just so we could place our order. You get 1.5 hours to eat and can order 6 plates of meat, 2 appetizers, and refills on rice and broth each time. The all you can eat veggies, seafood, noodles, and sauce bar is located in the middle of the room. There was definitely a good amount of options and we were able to grab two full plates of food without needing to go back for more. I will definitely say that the quality of the meat and pretty much all of the food was really good for the price you're paying. I was skeptical of the seafood, so I only got a few fish balls and fish cakes to try, which were all decent. The waiter checked on us a few times and we reordered 6 more plates of meat, more rice, and 3 rounds of their fried chicken appetizers (I recommend asking for light sauce for the fried chicken). There were definitely a few cons to this experience, the main one being our burners were not working almost at all. At best, I can say they were warm, but not nearly hot enough to boil the broth. We were prompted to try the burners next to us and they also were not working well. At the end of the day, we were given individual gas burners which did the trick, but this took over 30 minutes to get sorted and cut into the eating time. Another major con was that the restaurant did not feel totally sanitary. There was a ton of food all over the ground and under our table to the point where I was slipping on things and had to be careful when walking. We also had to ask the waiter to re-wipe our table before we sat down because there were things left on the table near the burners and the seats were sticky. The area with the veggies, seafood, and sauce were also messy and needed to be replenished quicker because things were constantly running out. I was pretty skeptical of the entire restaurant early on due to this but still tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and try the food before judging further. Despite these two major cons, I think the food was good and the price is worth giving it a shot. Don't think this would be my number 1 go to place for hot pot but I'd go back for a weekday lunch since the price is so reasonable. read more

This was the first hot pot place I went to a couple years ago. Me and my friends went out for dinner. They don't have like a shared pot, everyone gets their own pot and has their own little hot pot. I think this is really good for anyone who may have food restrictions and this way you don't have to worry about it. Also gyoza was decent. The volcano karage had a weird sauce that I wasn't really fond of but some people might like it. Shabuya has become a go-to for AYCE shabu in the South Bay as the quality you get for the price is pretty good. I've gone on a weekday during lunch and dinner so in terms of wait, there wasn't much. They do have a yelp waitlist you can join ahead of time which is helpful if you do go on a busy day. There are six different meat options and you can choose up to 4 each time. In terms of serving size, it's not super huge which I kind of like because I don't get overwhelmed with having to finish a big portion each time it comes out. It was in a familiar mall location, and there's limited parking, but a lot of booths inside for seating When I tried using the Yelp app to join the waitlist before we drove to the restaurant, it said it was not available, but turned out it only opens at 12, which I was really annoyed to find out after we arrived at the restaurant, so we had an additional hour wait. This was my first time at a Hot Pot and Shabuya did not disappoint. Checked in on the waitlist on Yelp but when we walked in we were greeted right away. The Yelp wait list said 15 minutes but the gentleman at the front check his list and sat us right away. We arrived on a Saturday around 5:15 and it was busy. Since it was both our first time ( my first time ever but my boyfriend has been to other Hot Pots). We were explained how the menu and time limit works. We ordered the #5 Sukiyaki broth and #3 spicy miso broth. For appetizers we order #3 soy glazed chicken Karaage and #4 volcanoes chicken karaage. My favorite was the soy glazed. The volcano karaage was barely Luke warm and has some real heat that takes a little to kick in. The additional add on bar had some great choices of vegetables and seafood. I like to think I'm a shabu connoisseur Been to a bunch of shabu places but this place is the cleanest and most welcoming I've even been to. The buffet area was kept clean and stock the entire time. It had amazing selections of fresh veggies and other things like seafood and tofu. The staff was consistently checking on us asking if we need more meat or anything else. It was amazing! Unfortunately, I think I will have to rank Shabuya at or near the bottom of my personal Bay Area hot pot ranking list. There are two main reasons for this: - One of the biggest things that I personally look for at an AYCE hotpot spot is variety in both their soups and side ingredients - unfortunately Shabuya misses the mark on both accounts. With only 5 not super unique soups to choose from. Spicy Miso + Miso and and Sukiyaki + House being very similar made me feel like I had very limited choice in flavor. Their mushroom and noodle options I also felt were a little lacking - and some ingredients just sat there with empty tubs for most of the time I was there. - Secondly, I cannot get behind the way Shabuya slices their meat so that they're paper thin, to the point where it feels like I have to scrape them off the metal tray they serve it on. It really detracts from the whole Shabu Shabu experience when the meat that I've scraped off can't be swished in the broth anyways since I couldn't lift it cleanly. For an all you can eat place - it just feels very stingy. My final gripe is with their split policy. While It was my fault for assuming I would be able to split our table so we had 2 people pay on one card, and 1 person on the other, I was told their policy is to only split straight down the middle, which didn't really make sense to me since everyone is paying the same price anyways. As for the restaurant itself, I felt that it was clean and well lit. Service was good when it was available but a little slow - probably because only one person was making rounds throughout the dining area. My party ate around 5pm so it might've been a weird time but I had to flag people down several times. Overall, I would probably not return anytime soon, not at the price point its at and when there's options like Tasty Pot and several Malatang spots across the freeway. read more
