The manager, Herman, was also really kind. While making his rounds, he stopped by our table to chat, a rare and refreshing personal touch, since you usually only see managers when something is wrong. This place is a staple in my week and is a must go. The lunch special until 3 PM for $21 all you can eat is an UNBEATABLE price. The atmosphere is comfy and inviting. The number of options they have for sides is unbelievable. Food comes out insanely fast, so you can keep the eating pace up. The servers are very kind and hard-working. I visited Shabuya for the first time last week. It's the old location where Applebee's used to be in McCarthy Ranch. Arrived around 12pm near opening, so the wait was only about 20 mins. We had the lunch options, so it was All You Can Eat for $20/person, which is a great deal! The only problem was that me and my friends couldn't eat that much LOL. You can order unlimited meat and appetizers from the lunch menu. You can also grab noodles, veggies, fish eggs, etc. from the self-serve bar and toss them into your hotpot bowl as it cooks. The pots at our table took a long time to boil (about 20 mins). If you're trying to get your money's worth, I'd recommend not getting too many items from the self-serve bar. Maybe some noodles and veggies, but not too much bc it will fill you up fast. Instead, try to fill up on the meats and appetizers. I LOVED Shabuya! I came here for the first time for their weekday lunch price, and was really impressed. There is a huge buffet-style selection of veggies, tofu, mushroom, seafood beyond just the meat menu. As for the meat, so so good. The pork options especially were so tender and perfect. The beef is great too, a little less tender, but still good. We didn't try the chicken. We also tried the soy glazed chicken karaage, which many Yelpers recommended. It took a very long time to come out, and we all felt that the sauce was way too sweet. The chicken was fried well though. I'd get the plain karaage next time, especially since I'd want to focus on the flavors of the broth. For broth, we tried miso and tonkotsu. I'm not sure what I expected but miso tastes just like miso soup, pretty salty after a while. I much preferred the tonkotsu, but would love to try the other broths next time. If you can get past that, the food was actually pretty good for AYCE. Both the pork and beef cuts were very tender. Foods from the self-serve bar were good but the bar itself was definitely a mess! This could be due to the customers themselves not being careful, rather than the restaurant's fault. Sauce options are limited but all the basics are there. Service was not good. Came here for the first time and I am impressed It's all you can eat style where everyone has their own boiling pot for their broth. I chose the spicy miso broth and my husband got an original house broth and both were so tasty! It took a while for the broth to heat up though. You can order two appetizers and 4 meats at a time. There are a lot of sauces, seafood, vegetables that you can grab from the bar whenever you like and there are a LOT! I actually like getting the food from the bar more than ordering it. You have an hour and a half to eat and I think that's plenty of time. We didn't feel rushed to eat at all. Server came by to check on us very often. One downside is the bathroom has to be cleaned better. It was very dirty with all the toilet papers everywhere on the floor and some stalls didn't have any toilet paper or seat cover. But when I went the second time, they refilled it and it's much cleaner. So hopefully they check it more often to make sure it's clean! Overall I really love this place! Wow I can't believe that I've never had Shabuya until now. I've always passed by but for some reason never thought of trying them out. Well, they'll be seeing me a lot more often now! We came here for lunch and it's all you can eat. The price you pay for the quality and quantity of food is so good compared to most other restaurants nowadays. The interior is clean, neat, and quite spacious. We each got our own pot and chose our broth. You can adjust the temperature of your pot on the side too. We ordered some appetizers and filled our plates with raw ingredients from the bar such as seafood, noodles, and vegetables. We also created our own sauce from the sauce bar. We ordered multiple plates of different meat to go along with the rest of the ingredients that we got. Everything was absolutely delicious! Service was friendly and they checked on us many times. We got our waters refilled, more broth, more napkins, and of course, more meat. We got their early, so we didn't have to wait, but I've read that they can get full fast. My favorite ayce shabu in the Bay Area!! I've been here a few times now and always leave feeling super satisfied. The broths are flavorful but not too overpowering and I love that everything besides the meat is self serve so you don't have to wait for them to bring you most things. The service is also pretty good and fast. My go-to broth is usually sukiyaki or spicy miso. If you're a fan of spicy they also have a super spicy sauce at the sauce bar that you can add to your broth for an extra kick. I've found everything to be pretty fresh and high quality, including the meats. My family and I came to Shabuya on a Friday around 6PM. There were about 11 parties ahead of us but we ended up only waiting 20 minutes. Make sure to join the yelp waitlist so you don't have to wait! I got the spicy miso/tonkotsu combo. My favorite meat here was the prime flat iron steak which had the perfect amount of marbling. This is Japanese AYCE hot pot that has 4 soup base options- miso (my fave), spicy miso, tonkatsu and sukiyaki. You're allowed to order 6 plates of quality beef or pork each round and they have two buffet style bars where you can select all sorts of veggies, ramen, fish cake, etc and even a sauce bar! They also serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. At shabuya, it's $29.99 for dinner prices and $20.99 for lunch, you're given a total of 90 min to dine in & they charge you for whatever you don't eat which is understandable bc AYCE spots are like that. They do get packed but they go through their waitlist pretty quick so wait time isn't so bad. As it is busy, they have attentive waitresses and waiters who often check on you which is great. Everything we've had there at Shabuya has been great. Every time I don't know what I want to eat, my bf and I automatically drive to Shabuya :) I love this spot, I feel like every time I come here. This review has been a long time coming because Shabuya is easily one of my favorite hot spot destinations in the South Bay. We recently visited during happy hour, and the value is incredible! For two people, including drinks, the total came out to just $60--and it's all-you-can-eat! While the selection of vegetables and noodles may be more limited compared to other hot pot places, the quality of the meats is top-notch. We mostly go for the beef toro, but the other meat options are excellent as well. Pro tip: you can mix and match the broths, though our go-to is the tonkotsu. The broth is consistently flavorful, perfectly balanced--not too salty, not too bland--every time we visit. Another bonus is that appetizers are included with the AYCE. We tried the gyoza and soy-glazed chicken karaage, both of which were delicious. Shabuya also excels in service. This place passes. I loved the broth. Got the spicy miso soup. Amazing flavor. Nothing to complain about. The meat quality was high. It looked like premium meat. This place said premium all you can eat, so I'm sure the meat is premium. A lot of fat marble and quality meat. I enjoyed the bar. What a disgraceful and disgusting experience here at Shabuya Milpitas. I was here on Saturday April 13th for my girlfriend's birthday (Tammy), but our party of 18 (14 adults & 4 kids) were kicked out after a verbal altercation caused by two Shabuya staff members at the front desk. 1. According to the descriptions given by multiple people on Yelp, the staff member who escalated the situation is Brian. He had spotty tattoos on his forearm and wore a black uniform. Before anything happened, he was already giving us attitude. My girlfriend's dad asked a question and Brian responded with "You can ask Tammy. I don't want to repeat myself." This wasn't a big deal, but it would've been nice to get a better response, especially when there wasn't really a crowd at the time yet. 2. A little over two weeks ago on March 26th, we all came for a birthday dinner and the experience was completely different. Our server, Matthew, granted a free pot for the person in my party since it was their birthday. He also didn't charge for our autistic niece since she can't eat anything. This was an overall good experience but on April 13th, the experience was the complete opposite. When Brian was doing a head count for our party, we told him about our experience with Matthew and if we were able to go through with a free pot for the birthday this time and to not charge our autistic niece, but he said he couldn't do that and how it was store policy not to. Brian also went on to say he was the manager and how Matthew wasn't supposed to do that with it maybe being only a one time thing. It didn't make sense how a one time free pot aligned with how "strict" the store policy was, but it is somewhat understandable. What really made this experience terrible was the lack of empathy for our autistic niece. Brian said it was store policy to charge her even if she doesn't eat. He then made her stand up to go measure her height, even though it was obvious how hard it was to get her to do that. We mentioned how it was wrong for him to force her out of her stroller when she was clearly in distress of the situation. Brian replied with, "It's store policy, I am not trying to lose my job." Since he is the manager, how come nothing was done to Matthew, since he violated store policy? Very frustrating situation. 3. My party just wanted to eat so we started heading towards our table. Me and my girlfriend's dad were the last ones to start walking and we overheard Brian on the phone with someone saying these exact words. "... these guys are being an ass."Brian kept saying he called the manager "Mary". Then all of a sudden he says he said "Matt". After all of that, Brian then says out loud, "That's it! They're out! Kick them out! Party of 18, out!" As a manager, you should be able to keep your composure and Brian obviously didn't. And for him to say what he said on the phone, totally unacceptable and inappropriate. 4. As our party was leaving, another worker named Christina started to get into the face of one of the people in my party saying how she isn't sorry for kicking us out and was straight up yelling/being aggressive. Even other workers around her were telling her to stop, but she didn't listen to them. Nothing can be done to get me or anyone I know back to any Shabuya location, but for the sake of their customers, I hope something is done like retraining staff and implementing better policies that make more sense. To work at a restaurant chain, being professional should be important. Out of the hot pot places, this one was okay. Unfortunately, they did not have as much ingredients and were lacking some ingredients I was looking forward to. They did not have baby corn, tofu skin, quail eggs when I was there. They also lack some essential sauces like the sesame sauce. They did have a sauce that looked like sesame sauce but it was too sweet and I didn't see a label in it. The service was good and I was glad we can mix the broth so I got Miso and Tonkotsu. It's not like tons of variety but adequate for hot pot. We come here for the quality thinly sliced beef. They have pork and chicken but I have not tried. Their beef is so good. It's truly premium and for the $30 lunch price for adults and $11 price for kids under 50" is a deal. My kids don't eat much but it's more than $11 worth. Kids love the sukiyaki soup. I honestly love having my ACYE hotpot here since they have such a variety of options to chose from and they are close to home! side note: The only thing that sucks is the waitlist for this spot. You cant join online or thru the yelp app, you have to physically come inside to put yourself on their kiosk. The first few times my visit was on a weekday and we waited for about 20-35 mins, then on my 4th visit it was a 60-75 min wait, crazy.... I know. Now lets get into the food, you get to chose your own broth bowl per person. They have about 6-7 bases you can choose from. Then they have abut 4-5 appetizers you can chose from. The meat options are 1-6 that you can choose from. I know what my faves are but you should visit to see what yours are! They also have a great list of drinks you can choose from, I want to try the soju cocktail but I know it will def have a kick to it if I drink it, but maybe next time. They also have a sauce bar with tons of item to chose from.
