This was my first visit. It's a Saturday night and the place was busy. The dining area isn't huge, but they make it seem so by adding wall mirrors. They also have three fans mounted to increase the air flow through the room it doesn't feel stuffy at all. Normally, I order chow fun as my litmus test dish. However, seeing the kitchen staff prepare the housemade noodles, I decided that I ~had~ to try them. I ordered the beef tomato chow mein and opted for the extra $1 to get the house noodles. I also ordered the spicy eggplant dish. Plus a bit of rice. There was already a pot of tea on the table. The food came out very quickly. The noodles looked delectable! Tasted good! Generous portion. But since my first time dining here3 which was about a year ago, I have returned at least three more times including last week with my eldest daughters for lunch. We got the five course meal with beef and broccoli, salt and pepper shrimp, Shan dong chicken,and my favorite green beans with shrimp. I do not remember the other item. Amazing food, especially the handmade chow mein has an amazing chewy texture and the perfect amount of sauce. The staff are super friendly and it feels like they know my family personally, remember our usual orders and preferences, even though we only get food here once every few months and we get takeout. You can tell they really care about their customers. This place has really gone down hill. The hand pulled noodles are more dough strip rather than noodles. I'd actually be ok with dough strips if the flavor was good, but unfortunately it's not. There's no wok hei and it doesn't taste like a melding of sauces but rather just soy sauce. The quality of the broccoli in the chow mein was also yellowing so it was going bad. Its pretty much inedible but I'll prolly try to eat it still. I wouldve given a lower score but their lotus chicken is still decent and had a good flavor. read more

Eating here always feels like home. The food is cozy, delicious and just everything you hope for out of a meal. It is definitely almost always crowded, honestly can't remember a time coming where it wasn't pretty packed. This also means it's a pretty raucous noisy mealtime! Nothing wrong with that but if you're looking for a quiet intimate meal, this is probably not the place. Despite the service always being quick and efficient, the aunties are always very kind. Fantastic hole in the spot Chinese food spot. The dumplings were definitely fresh with handmade wrappers. The hand pulled noodles were really chewy and we had the szechuan special which was a surprisingly sweet sesame sauce with minced pork, not the typical Dan dan noodle I was expecting but delicious! I visited Shandong Restaurant last Friday with my husband and honestly I was a bit disappointed. This place has great reviews and there was a huge line, but the food was very average but very affordable. Their service was very quick and the place was super busy. I could see at least 30 door dash orders lined up in-front of me. What I really liked here was the Mongolian Beef and the Shandong Chicken, the Shandong Chicken was one of their best selling food items, I could see one on almost every table. The chicken was fried but it actually wasn't that sweet, the chicken was one of my favourite dishes and even the beef was very flavourful. I was disappointed with the Lamb dish, it was undercooked to be honest and too rubbery to eat. We didn't like the Sesame Pasta Noodles as well, it's one of their most famous dishes and we didn't really enjoy it. Overall, I thought this place is a hit or a miss. How many times have I eaten here or gotten takeout and never reviewed Shandong? It's such a familiar and trusted place for Chinese food in my neighborhood that I just take it for granted that everyone knows the score. I asked the hubby to pick up some take out on his way home from work, and I stuck with my best faves for a cold, wet night: hand cut sesame paste noodles in spicy meat sauce and the famous pork and leek dumplings with spicy soy/vinegar dipping sauce. But at this point to read people complain about how the dumplings and noodles are too thick, after decades of this place kicking out thick noodles and dumplings and getting national/international acclaim for them, just makes me think people wanna start beef for no reason or to score some social media clout. There are plenty of places for thin, delicate noodles. Move on! Life is short! Anyway, my yum is thick, chewy noodles and I got my happy spot tickled with the delicious hand cut noodles in a spicy, but not too spicy, creamy, peanut butter or sesame paste sauce. The meat in the sauce is a ground meat that added a beautiful flavor and there was some Chinese water spinach leaves for some texture as well. The dumplings are my fave, and once again did not disappoint. You can eat a serving of these massive dough balls and call it a night. The pork and leek works so beautifully together and only gets better dipped in the spicy dark vinegar sauce. Perfection! Phone ordering is quick and easy. They take credit cards, and the order was ready by the time the hubby walked there. We had spicy chow mein with chicken- SO GOOD, Mongolian beef that was succulent and delicious and noisiest with bean paste that were savory and slightly sweet ! We had such a great experience watching all the hip people around us and the serving staff was super fast, very friendly, and totally accommodating. Not to mention the food was very mid nothing special and quite expensive at $15 per item. It's such a hole in the wall place but man are those some of the best spots. I loved watching the aunties making the fresh noodles through the storefront. We joined the waitlist on my phone on the way there and our party of 4 was immediately seated at a 6 person table round table with a lazy Susan. We ordered: Shan Dong chicken - the better version of orange chicken. So so delicious! A must get. Dry Braised Green Beans - perfectly flash fried and has so much flavor. Definitely a lighter veggie dish that helps break up all the heavier food. Salt & Pepper Prawns - the best I've ever had. Perfectly crispy and light. I could probably eat a whole plate of this myself. Onion pancakes - another winner. My friend's favorite! Can't go wrong ordering this. It was delicious even the next day! Special Shan Dong Dumplings - sadly this was the only one we all didn't like. The dough is too thick which I'm told is the style. Chicken chow mein - we ordered this at the request of our friends and asked for the handmade noodles to be used. It was delicious but a little too basic. Perhaps we will try the spicy chow mein w/ chicken to it next time. Sesame paste noodles - this is their famous dish and it did not disappoint. This was my fiancés favorite. The sesame paste is reminiscent of peanut butter and adds a nutty salt flavor. Sooo delicious and highly recommend paying for the beef to be added to this dish.
