Everything here tasted very gourmet - simple but yummy! The rice cakes had a good chew and saltiness, and the pan fried buns were covered in sesame seeds and very juicy. Better to come here with more people to try more items. Portions are pretty decent.

I visited this restaurant twice. The first time was for dim sum of lunch. It was okay. The later time is when my friends invite us to join them to try the Peking duck which was recommended by another friend. We had Peking duck, Siew long bao, braised ling cod tail, and sautés string bean. The Peking duck skin was cut with lots of meat. Skin+meat style rather than skin only style. The wrapper is a bit thick and turns very chewy after a short while when it gets cooled. The fish was fishy. I can smell it when it was served. Even though it was not that bad when eaten. The meat tastes bland and very flasky. The service was great. Staff were nice and smiling.

I've always come to this restaurant whenever I'm in the area, probably bc I had really good experience the first time I came and it really reminded me of the food in HK. But, I'm not sure if the quality goes down the year or I haven't been ordering the right dishes, the food is not as good as what I remembered. This recent experience I ordered the chicken with wine sauce, scallion pancake, Shanghai rice cake, oyster and rice in clay pot. My all time favorite is the chicken with wine sauce. It has a really strong wine taste that goes to the chicken, although some parts of the chicken were undercooked since you see redness in the bone. The scallion pancake is good. It comes in multiple later. I probably would've like it more if it's crispy. The Shanghai rice cake was not that good. I think they overcooked the rice cake and it is soggy and clumps together. The taste of the dish is typical. The oyster with rice clay pot was alright. It's really bland. When I ordered it a few years ago, they used mini oyster and now they use thumb size oyster, which is good. But they really need some salt to the dish. Last time, I ordered the lobster with vermicelli and it was delicious The service is good and I like how the place is spacious, not overly crowded. I have mixed feelings about the place about trying it out multiple times, especially I usually have to call in advance to make reservation a few days prior, not sure if it's worth the effort anymore

Slightly upscale Shanghai spot that has free parking spots available in the nearby parkade. We didn't made a reservation but my friend and I walked in on a Friday night and was able to get a table for 2 after a 8 minute wait. We ordered the Xiao long baos, 2 types of appetizer combo (cold Jellyfish and cold chicken peanut cucumber noodle salad), braised beef noodle soup and dan dan noodles. Everything was really good and we were pleasantly surprised. We had leftovers but was hard to decide on a favourite dish. They served really nice complimentary tea and were gracious enough to give us each our own vinegar sauce dish. Highly recommend! Restaurant prices are higher but decor, food quality, and service make up for it.

Great place for authentic Shanghai food. Was talented for a lunch o celebrate a birthday. The restaurant is huge and very comfortable. In the middle is the dumpling make station so you can see them making their famous XLB. We ordered XLB, pan fried dumpling, fried rice cakes, duck with taro (my friend says this is the best place for this dish), wonton soup, cold noodles with sesame paste and the black vinegar ribs (which we all didn't like this weekend. My friend says it is normally the best). Service was a little off too as the servers brought items to our table we didn't order. However, the manager was nice and we were allowed to bring in cake to celebrate and they were not rushing us out. I would come back to try again. Limited parking in the parade for the restaurant.

This beautiful large restaurant is our favorite restaurant in Richmond. Everything we've eaten here is prepared well and artfully presented. The Peking Duck was delicious. We had it 2 ways---sliced skin with crepes, then the rest of the meat chopped up and cooked in salt & pepper. This is the first time we had it this way and we were impressed. The Sweet and Sour Rock Cod was delicious and had a lot of fish meat. The ribs with black vinegar is our favorite. We've been to this restaurant many times and it has always been consistently good. The host is super friendly. The servers are professional and always asked if we needed anything. The space is elegant and well lit. The tables are comfortably spaced. It never feels cramped. Love this fine establishment.

Shanghai River is one of the best restaurants in Richmond BC. Food is incredibly good and very tasty. Lots of good food to choose from: from Peking duck, black vinegar ribs, xiao long bao, sweet and sour rockcod, honey walnut shrimps, among others. Service is great. People are very nice, They are always smiling, ready to help and always checking on how are doing. Restaurant is pretty. Nicely decorated. Shanghai River is always a good place and always a reliable place to eat something good.

I came here for a late lunch on a whim. It's walking distance from Richmond Brighouse Skytrain Station. Staff were polite and greeted me upon entry....even though I came in a half hour before they closed lunch operations. The food was delicious, flavorful and not salty. The XLB were nice soupy and filling delicious.

This is comfort food for me. Nothing was frozen. Everything was made fresh!! The chinese donut and warm soy milk was my top choice here. My family enjoyed the braised pork belly so much with preserved vegetables in the sauce. The fried rice was bland for me but the xlb was so juicy! We were seated in a corner so hard to get the server's attention but I found the staff to be very polite and friendly. It was busy but we managed to still get a table without reservations for a weekend lunch.

Consider us lucky to have been able to try this place. We had an early afternoon flight to catch so was planning to get some dim sum at Kirin before heading to the airport. Who would have thought the wait for dim sum on a Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. would be two hours. Hard pass! We walked over to Shanghai River and waited outside for them to open at 11:00 a.m. The host came out around 10:50 a.m. and invited us in. That gets an extra star in my book! We were promptly seated. There was a large window where we could see workers making XLBs. Like usual, my eyes were bigger than my stomach. We got the pork XLBs, green onion pancake, black vinegar ribs, and pickled vegetable pork soup noodles. Everything we ordered was excellent. Service was fast and polite. The restaurant is pretty big and has plenty of room for large parties. What we ordered was way too much for two people but it was well worth getting to try all the dishes!

Popular Chinese food restaurant in Vancouver offering a solid selection of dishes. We tried the tea duck which was well seasoned, and the pork hock which was a standout favorite. The xiao long bao, eggplant, walnut shrimp were good and we felt the sweet and sour pork was a bit too sweet for our tastes but others may enjoy it. The place itself is set up to host both small and large parties and though can get quite noisy. Service was fast and efficient; bathrooms were clean. Recommend making a reservation in advance given how popular this restaurant is.

It's been close to ten years since my last visit. It's funny how long it took for me to come back, consider I've always liked this place. Came in for a Saturday lunch at noon, with reservations, we were seated within couple of minutes. We decided to go for a bunch of dim sum team instead of going with more formal dishes like the taro chicken or Beijing duck. Oh boy it was a good choice. Everything we had was fantastic, siu mai, pan fried pork bun, xlb, shagnahi vegetable rice.. to the superb salt pepper tofu, turnip pastry is also very well made, just crispy and flakey on the outside, and subtle flavored filling that's perfectly matched. We'll be back, and definitely not waiting for another decade.

I also loved that they used dark meat, which made it even more flavorful and juicy. The spicy beef noodle soup was delicious. The noodles were cooked perfectly, the beef was tender, and the dish was very satisfying overall. My only suggestion would be for the broth to have a bit more depth and boldness in flavor. The pork soup dumplings were excellent. The wrappers were thin and delicate yet held together perfectly, and each dumpling was packed with a generous amount of rich, flavorful broth. (Sn: The constant opening and closing of the door is a bit off putting sitting right by the entrance, but I'm not docking a star because of that) Just basing my rating on the food alone. My mom thought they didn't have enough ginger in the vinegar (but personally it's a mute point for me since if the XLB is good enough I don't add ginger) I enjoyed them. Nice and soupy just the way I like them. Braised Beef noodle soup w/ Kuan noodle - great noodle and beef texture, broth could be a bit more flavourful, but honestly not bad. Popcorn chicken - it's lacking depth in seasoning, and a little overdone on the dark side of things, but pretty good otherwise. Overall, everything was pretty good, just not a solid 5 stars in my books.

Hei Hei Rice Roll is legit good, totally recommend, even my daughter too, I thought of her ( since she LOVES rice roll and couldn't make it on this trip with me) while enjoying these roll but when I shared with her the photos and mention that we will go back here with her- she already visited. She said it was so good! Hei Hei Rice Roll is located at the Richmond Public Market, oh wow - this place is really popular, on the 2nd visit I was the first in line then the line wasn't so long but while waiting for our order, the line got super long. I was lucky I didn't wait long in line. Best to arrive early. I am not sure what the secret to the rice roll but Wow, it's so thin, silky, smooth texture with the toppings, so great together. The last 2 times we had rice roll with my daughter at Portland and Seattle- followed per Instagram reels- those did not even compare to these rolls. My first visit I got the combo which is the best deals, starts at $15.50 but depends on what you select for the selection for rice rolls and congee. I got the pork & preserved egg congee, shrimp, mushroom, pork rice roll. The 2nd visit I got the combo again, with liver & preserved egg congee, scallop and shrimp rice rolls, but I got my order wrong for the roll- they missed the shrimp. fyi-I found out that bean sprout, corn, toppings are free! Both combo came out to $17. super cheap! Cash only, they take USD but its the same dollar $ value. I wish they take credit cards, hehe. & the Verdict: Yummy, the congee hits the spot for comfort food, loved how it is cooked and they add peanuts too. Love the packet of sauce for the rice rolls, the umami-ness, so good. Best to eat it hot and fresh! Don't forget to ask for chili sauce, to add that extra spicy kick! For now, I am not sure I'll ever find a spot that is closest to Hei Hei for my congee and rice roll fix until I get to visit Richmond, BC again.

We tried the braised combo (pork ear, pork intestines, fish cake), Taiwanese egg wrap, braised pork sauce rice with deep fried pork chop, and yam taro mochi balls. The braised combo is pretty solid - I didn't really like the funkiness to the intestines (I generally enjoyed it in barbecue settings) but the fish cake was fantastic. I also liked the texture of the pork ears. The Taiwanese egg wrap was a bit tasteless, so I wouldn't recommend. Braised pork sauce rice is the lu ruo fan which is a large portion with seaweed, bean sprouts, and soup on the side. Pork chop was flavorful and juicy but not crispy batter, which is okay. Yam taro mochi balls were sweet and chewy. I don't like taro but I loved this dessert! Service is okay. They give a water jug for self pour but the water jug was of questionable cleanliness. The specials were not discounted so we called it out and we weren't told that we had to put the order with a server, not the QR code, so it was a strange interaction. Both liangpis which are cold chewy noodles were flavourful and had a great texture (I think I'd recommend classic if it's your first time!) What blew me away was the biang biang soup, the pork pieces were generous and the vinegarness of the soup was very unique. The paomo had vermicelli and lots of soaked bread pieces and lamb: much more gentle and lamb flavoured. Overall, portions were huge and the bill came out to around $55 for everything which was more than reasonable! Note that if your bill is under $30, they only take cash and if over, debit is an option but no credit. I'll definitely be back to this spot ‍

The biang biang noodles had a really delicious sauce and the texture of the noodles made it stand out. It's very wide and had a nice chew (this might become one of my favourite noodle dishes)! The broth is so flavorful and the beef is always fall-off-the-bone tender. Just a heads up, they do run out of the ribs so try to get here early if you would like to try it. The last couple of times we've come, the beef ribs were a bit smaller than they used to be, but they were awesome about making up for it. Last visit they threw in an extra rib, and today they gave us this massive extra bone loaded with tendon. I loved it. My wife was too shy to use her hands to eat it, so hey, bonus piece for me! They only take cash or debit. After I paid the bill and walked back to table, the waiter already took my leftover away which was an XL bowl with 3/4 left and of course I was planning to take home. I'm too tired to write the rest. They didn't apologize, didn't offer another bowl until I demanded it, basically didn't know what to do except said oh we already took it, with a blank look.
