This place has been a favorite for a long time. The fried shrimp and cajun french fries were the all time favorite and was as close to perfection as you can get. Today we ordered up the same and sad to say they substantially changed the breading on the shrimp (which were way smaller also) and the fries were battered, no more cajun seasoning. Very disappointing and was such a wrong move by management to change something that didn't need to be fixed. Shell Shack is no longer a favorite and honestly isn't worth going back any longer. The service here is pretty great. Even though we sat outside our server came to check up on us frequently. They sat us quickly and provided us with a QR code to scan the menu- great for the times were in. 5/5 My boyfriend and I got 2 drinks each- I got the Adult Cherry Limeade and the Adult Strawberry Lemonade. The lemonade was a bit too sweet for my liking but I'm sure it would suit someone else. The limeade was very good. My boyfriend got the Shell Shack Tea and Moscow Mule. They were both good. The only frustration with all the drinks were that they came out very weak- it didn't even taste like it had alcohol. On drinks overall... 3/5 I ordered a dozen gulf oysters raw, and 1lb of shrimp boil (cajun & diablo) with 2 corn. My boyfriend got the alligator tenders and fries. Oysters - They were decent! but one of them was MASSIVE and it made me uneasy. They aren't the best oysters but I think gulf oysters are always subpar to east coast oysters so.... 3/5 Shrimp Boil + Corn - I ordered diablo but i didn't think it was hot enough... but it was okay. The corn was the star of the dish I think. If you order a boil be sure to get some corn! Also ask for gloves and they'll give you some to spare your hands the mess! 4/5 Alligator Tenders + Fries - BF was a big fan of it. Recently checked this place out. Based on rating I figured it would be a good deal. Unfortunately, my assumption was incorrect. I tried a variety in order to give the most accurate rating. I had 1/2 lb shrimp and order of sausage in kitchen sink sauce. I tried 1 lb of snow crab in lemon pepper. I tried king crab naked to ensure that if I did not like the sauce the butter or my own sauce mound work. Plus King crab is the most expensive. At any rate, I was disappointed. The king crab was the same size as the snow crab. Nothing king about it. If I knew that would be the case I would have paid less for snow crab. The flavor was ok but not very juicy. The shrimp was over cooked because the Shell was sticking and the kitchen sink sauce was not balanced and the flavor had no harmony. The lemon pepper sauce really did not have a great distinction from the kitchen sink. I even tried the carrot cake. That was ok. The frosting was good. Cake was a tad bit dry. The best part was the ice cream that came with it. Now that was excellent and the best thing I had. The other reason I gave two stars was because of the sausage. It was actually more flavorful than the sauce it was in. The smokiness was on point. I will not waste another coin here. I must add that I spent over $90. For this meal that was steep and it was a very dissatisfying loss. read more

Visited Shell Shack on 1/19/18. I am a HUGE seafood lover and isn't easily pleased. Listen to me, If you are a seafood lover as myself please visit, you will not be disappointed. The prices are reasonable, food flavorful, and spiced very well. The kitchen sink is divine!! Next time I might try diablo lol. Shell Shack you have won my heart. It was my first visit and my server Dominic was outstandingggg, He sure did offer service!! he was warm and friendly, upbeat, kind, very attentive. This has been a great spot for us, but after tonight we will NOT be back. This place has really turned into just a decent place for mediocre food. Our experience tonight was just pitiful. Our waiter was more interested in being on his cell phone or talking with the rest of the wait staff hanging at the front desk than paying attention to our table. We ordered a boil Uptown Style. Needless to say it came to the table regular. The sausage was overcooked, the potatoes were undercooked. It just was ok good at best. I stopped eating about 5 minutes in. I advised my waiter of the dissatisfaction, but the last thing I was going to do was chance sending it back. He mentioned nothing else about it. At the end of the meal he offered, under his breath, if we wanted a dessert on the house. You've gotten our main dish wrong, hell no I don't want a single other thing from that kitchen. Stopped in on Saturday for a treat. I love crab but haven't had any at a restaurant in many many years. The Shell Shack had a good vibe and everyone that greeted me was very pleasant. The server explained the ordering process very well. They have a great variety of crab choices with the current prices posted throughout the place. The food was excellent and the 1/14 lbs of Bairdi crab and 3 sausage segments were plenty. They provide bibs (which the waitress expertly tied on me), gloves if you want to keep your hands free and plenty of napkins. There is even an automated hand washing station available. Great experience. I had two concerns. I was shocked by the price of the crab $30. That may be good but seemed high to me. Though, havent ordered crab in many years. The beer selection was aweful. Worst experience ever, and this is coming from a customer who went there for years. Server was so rude and disrespectful. They are understaffed they don't care if you are offended by their mistakes or behavior, and management seems to be letting them run the show because they are understaffed. We tried to be understanding because we just wanted to have a good time. We didn't get what we ordered and were treated aggressively when we complained we didn't get what we ordered. We literally told the manager to check the cameras because they were denying everything. NEVER going back or ever recommending. Food tasted bad, shrimp wasn't cleaned properly, and the server started walking around talking about us to other customers. Very classy. read more

SHELL SHACK=SHELL SHOCK! And not in a good way. My husband wanted to go to Shell Shack for his birthday on May 1st. His brother and sister were in town to celebrate with him. I called ahead to make a reservation and the recording said that this location did not accept them. Our party arrived on Saturday at 6PM, I went to the hostess desk to get a table. She told me there was another party of 15 that was waiting for a table and all of there party was not there yet. She asked me if my party was here and I said yes but they were parking the car. As they walked up she informed me that the party of 15 was all there and they were seating them. We waited for an additional 30 minutes and then 2 tables opened that were side by side. My friend asked them to push the 2 tables together and they told her it was a fire hazard. It would have actually given them larger isles, not smaller. I went back to the hostess stand and said we would take the two tables side by side and was told that the middle table is now reserved. What! they don't take reservations! By this time my husband is becoming very upset because of the way they were treating us. Now an hour has passed and still no sign that we would get a table. They seated many parties of 2 or 4 ahead of us. Here is the kicker for me, I see 3 people arrive at one of their 3 large tables and the waiter started adding seats around the end of the table. Again, the party was not complete. So I went back and spoke to a gentleman at the hostess stand and he asked me what was going on? I let him know it was my husband's birthday and he really wanted to eat here and we weren't seated when we arrived because some of our party was parking. Now I see them adding seats to accommodate 3 more people at this large table. I said their party is not complete. I said it's not right! All he could say is that that the people at that table lied. Later he offered us 2 tables that were not even close to one another and my husband said he was not picking who would sit at each table. His family was here from out of town to celebrate with him. He said no! After 1 hour and 30 minutes of waiting. we left. None of the large tables were leaving anytime soon. I can't comment on the food, but the management here is very poor and has zero customer service. They really don't care because they have plenty of customers. I called Rockfish in The Colony and made a reservation for 8 and they sat us as soon as we arrived. We had the crab boil and it was cooked to perfection! (Shell Shack tends to overcook their crab in my past experience with them) We has an excellent waiter and much better atmosphere. My recommendation is go here instead. The restaurant was hopping on our first visit to Shell Shack. My husband and I shared a bowl of the chicken and sausage gumbo, which was really good. After, I had grilled shrimp and hush puppies. The grilled shrimp doesn't come with any sides, so those must be ordered ala carte. The hush puppies were good, but the grilled shrimp was a huge disappointment. They were grilled with the shells on, which made the shells difficult to remove. The shrimp were large, but VERY tough. My husband ordered The Boss, which is fried catfish, shrimp, hush puppies, and fries. The catfish wasn't that good, had the real fishy dirt taste that catfish sometimes has. The shrimp were large, fried with a flour batter, no cornmeal, and once again, very tough. Although our meal was disappointing, we had THE BEST SERVER, Joshua, which is the only reason for the 4 stars. He was personable, charming, and attentive. We never had to ask for drink refills or anything, as he was on the ball! I don't see us ever returning to Shell Shack since there are much better seafood restaurants around, but it was nice to try out a new place. read more

This place stays pretty busy and they open late. They practice COVID protocol. Therefore you will need to check in once you are there. They will call you when your table is ready. This will eliminate everyone standing around the restaurant waiting for a table. We waited over an hour in our vehicle but we're told 35 mins wait. Thankful we had things to listen to in our cars and we walked the area a little to see what the other places have to offer. We finally got seated, and ordered oysters, crawfish, crab legs, and fried fish basket. The oysters for some reason came out warm. We took a bite and had to spite it out as we were afraid we would be sick from warm oysters. We told the waiter and he got the manager for us. She came over to see why we said the oysters were warm as I proceed to explain to her that when we took a bite the oysters were warm, she tells me it might be warm because when oysters are shucked they also rinse them with water and it's possible they got warm from the rinse. ( odd explination) Then she said I can take these away and take them off your bill. ( which we didnt tell her this due to the fact that we wanted them off our billl) We said we were just concerned and didnt want to get sick so we told her we want a new batch, a cold one. Thankfully we didnt get sick from the 2nd batch. Crawfish was good, if you like cajun seasoning, dont expect for it to taste like Boiling Crab. The crab legs were tasty. We enjoyed the food. This place could be sooo much better! Let me start by saying we were greeted by waitresses that were not real supportive of the business itself. I asked for recommendations and the first thing my waitress said is "it's frozen and overpriced so whatever you want" I was taken back so I'm like "ok". Needless to say we order fries and snow crab. The sauce was delicious, the portions were decent. I didn't order the drinks because the bar tender couldn't be found and when she appeared my waitress said the drinks are "really sweet". The was my first and last visit to the place but if you have a craving this place will due just don't expect great customer service. It is your traditional New Orleans boil. I would def. get the kitchen sink and hot. And hot isn't actually really spicy. The star was the shrimp and alaskan crab legs. Always get it with corn in the boil. I had a side of hush puppies and broccoli. I would pass on the hush puppies, but the broccoli was good (just too much butter). So my favorite thing about this place is they have ginger beer, Tvs on everything sports, and the machines you wash your hands in. Yes, how do I get one in my house? They are automatic machines you just slide your hands in dirty with all that cajun goodness and wait 15-20 seconds. You know the AMA recommends 30seconds as a FYI. Over the years I've heard about this restaurant and it's hand washing station, but I finally had the opportunity to go this past weekend.... And it was completely underwhelming. The music was so loud you couldn't hear anything anyone had to say at your table, the lighting is so bright and harsh it feels like a hospital, the infamous hand washing station is just shoved in a tiny space on the wall between a table and the kitchen door and full of nasty food dropping at the bottom (so gross), the service was kind but slow, and the food was mediocre at best. I understand it is COVID - so going out to eat is a luxury, but this is one I would have enjoyed better in my living room without the "cool sink". read more
