ARE YOU KIDDING ME? What a freaking donut! By far the most delicious buttermilk donut I've ever eaten. While visiting Austin last week, we found out about Shipley's, and this location happened to be up the road from where we were staying. I got a blueberry cake donut and my boyfriend got a regular donut with pink icing and sprinkles. I took a bite of my donut and couldn't believe the taste and texture. I actually said "oh my god!" Out loud. The kitchen is enclosed in glass, so you can see the entire operation. I've never seen a kitchen so clean! I am ServSafe certified and I was extremely impressed. The kitchen was SPOTLESS. And everything was so nice and organized. My only disappointed is that I didn't get a chance to go back and bring home a dozen donuts. Next time, for sure! read more

I had been here once before, on a Saturday morning, and the place was hopping, the donuts were hot and yummy, the coffee good. Maybe that's only on Saturdays. Went there this morning around 10am. The guy at the window was super grumpy. We ordered 6 donuts, and clarified that three of them should be chocolate glazed, not iced. He clarified back correctly, but gruffly. We got home and we had chocolate iced. Wrong! Also, the three plain glazed were cold, old, the glaze was coagulated around the donuts. They were gross and tased like day-old. The coffee was awful. Went again on 12/21 for my son's birthday because he LOVES some doughnuts! We ordered half a dozen glazed, a couple kolaches and an OJ. My husband (mr. cheapo) was surprise at how cheap it was. We actually sat inside to eat at my 2 yo's request. When I asked the guy we ordered from if the glazed were hot, he politely said, more warm than hot. They were plenty warm and yummy! As we sat there eating off napkins and my son making a huge mess, the manager came by and apologized for not giving us baskets and gave us a couple. Yeah, he probably didn't like the mess, but he didn't mention it. I feel bad for a couple of the bad reviews... like who expects a large donut selection at 11am? Every pay day for the last two months I have taken my kids here. They love it so much. Their favorite donuts are the cherry glazed w/sprinkles oh and a hot cocoa. It's sugar. Who doesn't like that? I went pretty early, there was only one customer ahead of me. Prices are fair. I tried some kolache's and doughnuts. The buttermilk cake was my favorite. The maple glazed was too strong for me. Pulling in the parking lot is no problem off of Parmer but forget about leaving during heavy traffic. The person who took my order seemed sleepy. I am totally the same way. I am not a coffee drinker so it takes me hours to wake up and be verbal with people. Very clean inside. This location is around 15 minutes from my house so I'll probably be back. Oh no! I feel a sugar coma coming on. read more

I have always enjoyed coming here for their ham and cheese kolaches because they are so delicious and the service has always been great. But today they out did themselves I called 10 minutes before close (which I didn't know at the time because the time on Apple Maps says 2pm) and asked about what they had left. I'm 38 weeks pregnant and when I'm craving something, I gotta know I'm gonna have it before I leave the house anyways, I lose track of time and pull up 30 minutes after they closed and they STILL had kolaches waiting on little ole me it's really difficult to find kindness like that anywhere nowadays and it renewed my faith in humanity a bit. I don't know if this is the norm or if I just got lucky, but if anyone ever gets the chance to check out this place, you definitely should!!! Love love the donuts !! But with that comes a price in dealing with the bald manager . Went yesterday and this guy was so rude like he hates his job. Please take that guy off the window or send him home. He's so impatient and has horrible customer service. I'll of course probably still go every weekend (ha ha ha ) because I don't let miserable people determine how my day goes but some advice to this manager. People start their day with donuts and coffee, just a simple nice gesture, pleasant customer service and patience can make a difference in someone's day. The BEST donuts around (MUCH better than Krispy Kreme or Dunkin'). (Round Rock Donuts comes in 2nd for me). I never met a donut at Shipley's that I didn't like. My favorite is the butterfly (if your local Shipley's doesn't carry the butterfly, get the cinnamon roll, it's the same just with a different shape). The butterfly is lovely swirls of dense, chewy dough with ribbons of cinnamony deliciousness curling throughout, and perfectly enveloped with their glaze. My second favorite is their chocolate glazed, which is a chocolate donut (not the cake kind) dipped in glaze. They also have stellar kolaches! read more

This location is always rockin'! The service is awesome. I love the large counter inside and the drive-thru is efficient. Last Sunday, the manager was taking orders from the cars in line to speed things up. The doughnuts come out fresh and warm! Heaven! The kolaches are always great. Tip: jot your order down / make a list. I always did that for my family of five at other locations. Hooray! Tasty donuts exactly how I like them. I don't care if it's a chain, they blow Round Rock donuts away. We bought a dozen - everything but chocolate. I sampled each one but I actually finished my glazed. Perfect consistency, perfect glazing job. MMM! Did I mention the Price Is Right? No, not the TV show... 8.00 for a dozen donuts and a coffee. Score! The maple glazed was also pretty delicious. Some of the cake donuts just really aren't my style but I could consume one with some milk, that would totally work for me. The donuts are great, but the accuracy of the order via the drive-through it really bad. I have been coming here for about ten years, and they still can't manage to give me the correct kolaches. I ask for a "plain sausage" or "sausage-only" kolache, and half the time it comes with cheese. Honestly TEN F*CKING years, and you still can't get this right. What do I have to do, hold up the drive-line as I open the bad and break open every kolache to check them? Update 6/23/19: went again today, they still got it wrong. Let's all be honest.... your taste for donuts completely depends on how you were raised. I was raised with Shipleys in Bryan. I literally can't stand any other donut. So when I heard this place finally moved to Austin and it was near me, I was ECSTATIC! I rushed right over and have been back many times and have NEVER been disappointed. Our order is always the same: -Sausage/Jalapeno Kolaches (the bread they use is like crack to me, but always get something to wash it down with.... those jalapeno suckers can get hot!) -Glazed Donuts (some people complain if they "smush" in the box (say if you take a turn to fast in the car, but to me, this is what makes them DELICIOUS. They are light and fluffy!!) - 2 Devil's Food Donuts (chocolate donut, filled with chocolate and glazed. 'nuff said.) Ah-mazing. And now they're opening one on Anderson Mill!!!! Fast, efficient and has a drive-thru. What better way to consume hundreds of empty calories before noon? They have all types of donuts (both fried and cake; glazed and filled). My favorite is the lemon-filled variety. The cake donuts are OK. But, for some reason, they don't have any powdered sugar cake donuts. The kolaches are not great. The bun to wiener ratio is too high. You need to bite into about 1/3 of the kolache before getting to the meaty center. All in all, this is a fine place when you are in the mood for donuts. read more

After being gone from town for 6 weeks, Shipley was where the kids wanted to go the first day back. And why not? The donuts are fantastic. Every time I eat a donut from another store that becomes clearer. Two things are far above the competition: the chocolate icing and the cake donuts. The staff is so friendly. Visiting family in Austin for Christmas and went to Shipley's for donuts and kolaches. We were greeted by Brian and Brandon and they made us feel so welcomed. I had a Bavarian cream filled donut that was a 10, light, soft, not greasy and the filling was incredible. I could have eaten 5 and also wanted to try all of them. Growing up in Houston I have been a serious fan of Shipleys for over 20 years. I love the Maple Iced donuts with a severe passion, all their cake donuts are tasty, their plain glazed are better than any other donuts (*disclaimer* I havent tried RR Donuts yet, so they will be the deciding factor, but for now Shipleys is # 1 to me) They also have a "bullseye" which is a chocolate donut with whipcream in the center and a cherry on top (YUM) So obviously, I love Shipleys, but THIS location made me love them even more, which i didnt think that was possible. The level of service you receive here is so welcoming and friendly it is almost jaw dropping in this day and age. It is sincere too, not forced in the slightest. I am happy to say that I will always go to Shipleys for their completely amazing donuts, and will go out of my way to go to this location just to give money to these guys who are the friendliest donut dudes ever. read more

It's all relative when it comes to (donut) hole in the walls. I grew up with Shipley and therefore love them. It's not just nostalgia, they really are delicious. Anything you desire they probably have, and if not ask them! You might be surprised to find they will happily make you something if they can. Honorable mentions here are the glazed donut holes and the apple fritter. Holy balls that apple fritter. You MUST try that at least once in your lifetime. They have a million other flavors such as strawberry iced, even cherry and coconut iced, cake donuts, and kolaches. The coffee is decent and the staff at this location were awesome. The guy who helped me was super nice and made sure to make my coffee exactly the way I wanted it. While he was in the back I had at least three other people check to make sure I had been taken care of. They do have a drive thru here if you prefer as well. It's a bit of a hike from my house, but was totally worth it. I dare you not to dig into these babies as soon as you leave the parking lot. I fully admit mine never make it home. read more

I love Shipley's and was excited that they finally had a location here in Austin. The donuts are just as fresh, soft and sugary (not overwhelming like Round Rock or Krispy Kreme) as the ones I remember in Houston. Without a doubt the best donuts - 5 star! However, the kolaches were not as good though - particularly the jalapeno sausage and cheese. This location had a couple of options - the regular one and then one with an Earl Campbell's sausage. I tried both but didn't enjoy them as much as the ones offered back in Houston. The regular ones were smaller and I think the bun just wasn't as fluffy compared to the Houston locations. The Earl Campbell was the same except they stuff a Earl Campbell sausage in there. Still not bad but not the same thus the 4 star rating. Drive through and dine in available. Shipley Do-nuts is not on my way from practically anywhere, but whenever I am in the area in the morning I'll go a little out of my way to pick up some of their delicious kolaches. The donuts are also very good. I have not been as impressed with the "cappucino" which was suspiciously similar to a reconstituted powdered mix, but the kolaches are great, and the donuts are worth a look as well. I might note, the kolaches are not my very favorite of all time (that would be Central Donut) nor are the donuts (that would be Round Rock Donut.) But for a little variety, and a very high-quality product (not very far behind those) Shipley is definitely worth a stop. read more

My very pregnant wife sent me on a donut mission but...crap! The door was locked. The manager opened up for me though anyway! At other places, my go-to donut is a chocolate or blueberry cake donut. But, here at Shipley's, the chocolate glazed is the best. It is a chocolate yeast donut (not cake) with regular glaze (not icing). See pics. I've ordered and received the wrong thing in the past and it's due to my misunderstanding of the Shipley's names/types. Nowadays I just point it out. They have a drive thru, but I like to go in and see the options. Glazed donuts are .75, and cake donuts are .80 --- they also do kolaches and other pastries (apple fritters, cinnamon rolls, etc). They have a chicken boudin-filled kolache, too. They have a microwave for customers to reheat donuts. I like to have steaming hot coffee and warm donuts, so I love this convenience! read more
