I'm writing this review because what happened to me at the Shogun in Temecula was deeply upsetting and completely unacceptable. I dined here on Saturday with three other people. We are frequent customers and have eaten and ordered from this location many times. On this visit, I paid my bill in full by credit card and left the restaurant with my group. Once I was fully outside the restaurant, a server named Jackie, who was not our server and was assigned to a completely different table, ran after me and publicly accused me of not paying. There was no attempt to verify anything internally, no checking of the POS system, and no discussion with our actual server before confronting me. The accusation was made loudly and publicly, which was humiliating and shocking--especially since I had done nothing wrong. When we immediately went back inside to address this with the manager on duty, Ali, we were told she had "just clocked in" and that she "didn't know what to tell us." There was no investigation, no apology, and no effort to correct the situation. We were essentially dismissed after being falsely accused. The accusation was completely false. I paid. There were witnesses. This could have been resolved in seconds by simply checking their system, but instead I was chased outside and treated like I had committed a crime. As a Black woman, being falsely accused of theft in public--without verification--hits differently. Whether intentional or not, the lack of care, professionalism, and accountability in this situation was alarming. Mistakes happen. But how a business handles them matters. Chasing a customer outside, accusing them without proof, and then failing to address it afterward is not acceptable. I hope management takes this seriously and reevaluates training and protocols so this doesn't happen to someone else. Until then, I cannot recommend this location. read more

Decided to come in for dinner on a Saturday night. Arrived about 4pm because we figured it would be busy being it was a weekend. It was definitely busy with lots of people waiting to be seated for the teppanyaki seating. The wait was about 1 hour. So the hostess said if we didn't want to wait we can sit in the regular dining area. I'm glad we did! Our hostess Angie was nice. Our food came out in a timely manner and everything was delicious. Everything you order from the teppanyaki side is also available in the dining area. Also, the renovated a but so it looks so nice. We will definitely be back. read more

Very disappointing experience. Sat in the Sushi part of the restaurant. As appetizers we order some sushi selections and karaage chicken. The sushi selections were quite tasty, however the karaage chicken was terrible. First, what was served looked nothing like the picture on the menu. What was served was bits of chicken about the size of pebbles that were dusted, at best, with flour then fried, so they were quite dry. Additionally, the was no seasoning on the chicken. They were not marinated nor was the flour seasoned. After a few bites, I did not finish the chicken. For my entree, I order the New York strip cooked medium rare. The meat that was served was gray through out. Again no hint of any seasoning on the meat. the overall flavor was of a previously frozen then thawed meat. I did not finish the meat. The vegetables were over cooked such that they had an acrid flavor to them. I did not finish the vegetables. The noodles were slightly under cooked, and again, I did not finish them. It is hard to believe that a chef, even a line chef, would put out under seasoned and over cooked food. Further, what was the expediter thinking to allow this quality of food to be put out. This is my husband's favorite hibachi grill in town. Yes, even more so than the popular one that just opened in town. He says better show, better prices, and more flavorful food here at Shogun. I'm not sure about the prices, but I have to agree the food here is more consistent & flavorful. I only wish they would try and mimic Benihana's famous mustard sauce, and they will be perfect. Although I do think Shogun's yum yum sauce is better and made from scratch. The contender's is too thick & sweet. Service has always been great. They just renovated & it looks great. And the best thing is we have been able to always walk in & get a hibachi grill table right away. Unlike the 2 hour wait at the other one. read more

Shogun Temecula is the best! They are currently remodeling the restaurant so some parts are under construction but the areas that are finished look super nice! There was about an hour wait. When they texted to confirm the reservation, it came with a link to view your position on the waitlist so we were able to leave and came back when we were next up. It's a four star review not 5 because I was expecting more tricks from the chef like I was hoping he would do the onion volcano with fire coming out. He did the tossing of spatulas and made a heart with fried rice then used sesame seeds to draw an I, arrow for the heart and a u. Then he used the spatula to make the heart thump. My husband and younger son enjoyed the calamari rings ($11) My husband and younger son ordered the single dinner which was rib eye steak ($36.26 each) My autistic son and I ordered the combo dinners. Son had New York steak and shrimp ($36.50). I had the filet mignon and sesame chicken ($36.50). I love the steak but chicken was ok. All dinners came with either miso or onion soup. We all chose miso. Salad was served and it's that Japanese tangy dressing. You also get three shrimps and mixed veggies. In the end they brought out dessert for me and sang their version of happy birthday. It was such an amazing time and experience especially for both my sons who never had that kind of experience. Haha my autistic son caught off guard by the flames. And my younger son tried miso soup for the first time. The waitress was so attentive and nice. Girls weekend to temecula and we wanted real food! Drove down from one of the wineries and luckily found this place through google. Parking was available, but because it was a Friday, it was a 30 min wait. Not bad! We were called in quickly, and the entrance was a small sushi bar with seating as you walked to the back... Hibachi grills, people, smoke, and fire are what you see. It Most definitely gave a "benihana" feel. The hibachi tricks were standard. The chef played his music and cooked the appetizers and food with minimal interaction. Onion soup was great, salad had tasty dressing, and all my proteins were cooked deliciously. Went to Shoguns on a Saturday night around 6p and was seated right away as we chose the dining room rather than grill seating. Our server was very kind and provided attentive service throughout our meal. It took about 20 minutes for the half roll sushi trio to be served, but it was good. Nothing special about any of them. We both ordered a dinner combination with fried rice and that was served within 5 minutes of receiving the sushi. The combination was okay, a little dry, but the shrimp was fresh and the shrimp fried rice was not what I was expecting, but it was good. The value for what we got was ehhhh. I expect hibachi to be expensive, but we spent $130 on the half roll trio, 2 dinner combinations with a shrimp fried rice upgrade, and a side of noodles. This will be two parts. My lady has been crazing sushi for a while so we finally went to get it. We initially were going to eat on the teppan side but didn't feel like sitting with a whole different family tonight. So we opted for the sushi bar. The servers were dope, friendly, and we didn't need for anything. It was a solid night from a customer service standpoint. However, the sushi itself was disappointing. $14.95-18.95 per roll for 6-8 pieces per roll. Respectfully, the San Diego roll was not good. The Mexican roll was a 5/10 and the crazy boy was a 6/10. We also got edamame that was good. They have varying flavors and we only got with salt. For the quality of fish i would of rather paid $12-14 a roll tops. Part two: We end up going to a family event last night. One of our aunties tells us that she went a week prior and got food poisoning. If she would have known we were going she would have advised otherwise I heard this place used to be the best sushi place in Temecula. I hope it gets back that. read more

Came here on New Year's day with my husband as I had been wanting to try this place out. I heard they were the direct competitors of Benihana. Had reservations for 7:30, arrived around 7:15 and were seated shortly afterwards. The reservation was originally for a single table but we were ok with sitting at the grill. We had our drink orders and appetizers placed first. It took about 20 mins to get both. Ordered the wings which were good; nothing fancy (6 for $14) and the sake sampler ($25) which came with 3 samples. 2 of the 3 tasted like rubbing alcohol and the 3rd one was okay nothing special. Got our order taken and asked if we could substitute the shrimp for extra vegetables or rice (as we don't eat shrimp) and were told that wasnt an option since they only give 3 per person (so 6); nonetheless wasn't excited to pay for something that we wouldn't be getting. Miso soup and onion soup were pretty good. Salad was okay but the dressing was not good in my opinion. It seemed like forever before our chef came to the table. And then: -He didn't speak much English so he depended on the music. -He overcooked the eggs for the fried rice. -We ordered regular fried rice without chicken but he made all orders with chicken (so we ended up spending an extra $9.00) for chicken that we didn't ask for. -The chef was spraying so much oil around that it was landed on my husband and another person's plate. -The chicken and steak were cooked together with the same utensils so there was some cross contamination (we can eat raw steak but having raw chicken touching it). -The rice was soggy from all the oil and butter. -The steak was pretty delicious which is what saved a portion of the meal. Ended up being charged for a bottle of sake that we didn't order so we had to return to the restaurant for a refund. Was told that the bottle was put on the table but we still didn't order it. Seems like the person taking the order is not capturing things correctly. Overall, we weren't impressed for $120 for 2 people + tip. The tables were pretty squeezed together. It reminded me of being inside of a casino where things are crammed to fit more people. The building also looked a little older. Parking wasn't horrible but there weren't as many open spots and that was a week day. I can imagine a weekend. They do honor military discount. Glad we were able to at least try it out but it wasn't for us. read more

I was really looking forward to a celebration dinner here for my daughter. Unfortunately as the night continued, I kept seeing things that questioned my decision to eat here. I came here for a Teppanyaki experience, however our cook only spoke twice during the show (if watching him cook rice could be called that). He only spoke when someone asked a question. I ended up watching the real show at other tables. I would have been better of going to a real steakhouse or the competition. The quality of food, size, and proportion is questionable. It's like ordering a steak at a 24/7 dinner. That's the size you can expect and the Jumbo Shrimp aren't so jumbo. I typically wouldn't complain, but I will when if I'm paying $180 for 3 person dinner. I also add we ordered rice with no onion on 3 plates. They actually charged me $3 ($9 in total) for ordering no onions on our rice. My main concern was the cleanliness and became concerned how food was transported/handled. I used the bathroom twice (arriving and leaving) over an hour apart. The bathroom was filthy and never cleaned. The soap dispensers didn't work and the handle looked like it hasn't been cleaned in a year. Also, I'm not sure how clean it is to have food near the ground and at shoe level. It's pretty disgusting to notice this while eating. read more

Made reservations (I highly recommend doing this)! We all got there and were taking to our seat on time. The menu options are endless! We all opted to do the grill. We ordered a variety of options. The calamari was so tender, the steaks were cooked perfectly and seasoned well along with the shrimp! The kids meals are very generous portions. The fried rice is definitely worth the upgrade-although where we're from you don't have to pay for fried rice. The full bar was nice along with sake and beer selection. My rating is based off the hibachi and the sushi. The hibachi is always decent and we've had a good experience with the sushi when you dine in. Fast forward to our recent take out order and it was not good. I got a whiff of fishy-ness and not in a good way when I opened the box, so it wasn't a great start. We ordered nigiri sushi but were given rolls instead, way too many rolls with so much rice. My husband is a garbage disposal and we ended up tossing most of it. The rice was also hard. No soy sauce was provided either. Will not be doing sushi take out from here again. read more

We came as guests with a party of 40+ after a funeral some months back and, despite the event, we all enjoyed each other's company during this time of mourning. Although I've been to many teppanyaki places and have seen the routine before, the chef made us laugh with his tricks. As I looked around the room, it was the same for the other tables in our party and I was glad to see family and friends of family enjoying themselves over this communal-style dining. Before our reservation, we went to the bar to get appetizers and drinks. We ordered Calamari Rings, a Mango Mojito, and a Strawberry Lemonade. The Calamari Rings came out piping hot and was super crunchy. I enjoyed dipping it into the Sweet and Sour Sauce. When we were escorted to the teppan area, we all sat around the grill. The server took our drink orders, as well as our main entree orders. After a few tricks here and there, our entrees were served. I was surprised to see that they served a larger portion than Benihana and Ooka. Food: Because everything is cooked on the grill, I would advise calling the restaurant if they can accommodate for those with special dietary needs or those who have certain food allergies (e.g., eggs, seafood, soy, etc.). For those without allergies, you can enjoy your teppan entree with either an onion or miso soup or Japanese salad with Ginger Dressing, fried (or steamed) rice, and Hibachi Mixed Vegetables. I ordered the Rib Eye Steak with Shrimp. It was great with one of the two dipping sauces they provide. Location / Parking: This Shogun Restaurant is located near the Temecula Promenade. It is quite busy but there is plenty of parking. Ambience: Dimly lit, communal-style (U-shaped) seating around a chef cooking on a teppan grill. It's fun and entertaining, and the kids and adults enjoyed it. Who doesn't love the classic fried rice heart or an onion volcano? Or the flaming grill? Moderate to loud noise levels, depending on whether you're seated next to the chef's portable speaker. One of the chefs had a mini disco ball with laser lights flashing about, which the kids enjoyed. If you're aurally sensitive to knife-on-metal grill sounds, it might not be the place for you. Service: The service here was great! Everyone was respectful, they had smiles on their faces, and our orders were brought in a timely manner from both the bar and teppan areas. If you're on a time crunch, I would skip the teppanyaki and go for something on their regular menu. I would skip the teppan if you have rowdy kids because their grills can reach up to 500°F! They do have kids (Komodo) meals available. Overall, it was an enjoyable dining experience with the party I was with. It turned a mournful day to an enjoyable one, and it left us with laughter, smiles, and a satisfied tummy! Thank you, Shogun! read more
