This place is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. I have been here twice, and each time could not decide what to order because so many things on the menu were appealing. The food itself did not disappoint. While the weather precluded sitting outside, it looks like a chill setting that will be great once atmospheric conditions permit. It was raining when we left, and the valet was brave enough to go get the car such that we only had to walk a short distance to get in, thereby saving us from getting soaked. We went on a Thurs night at around 7:00 PM and were seated right away, the place was not very busy. We decided to seat in the patio which was pretty, surrounded by bamboo trees. The server was very funny and attentive. We started with some cocktails the cucumbersome and the Pear of Kings, they were pretty strong but we enjoyed them. Then we ordered char sui bao buns to start and as mains the bipbimbap and ramen. The bao buns and the bipbimbap were very good but the ramen was a bit salty not the worse we have ever had but not the best. The dessert was pretty interesting and enjoyable called the Hallo Hallo which had taro ice cream, red bean paste, red and white beans, and tapioca in a soup of shaved ice in milk (something like that lol). Now towards the end of our meal closer to 9:00pm it started getting a little bit busier and the service really went down in quality it was NOT our server's fault he had to take care of a few tables plus was also acting as the bartender. We waited about 20 mins for the dessert and another 30 or so minutes to pay. The end really tainted my experince, the restaurant should really have more waiters or maybe a designated bartender, our poor server was running all over the place. Overall the food was not bad I would like to try other things on their menu like hot pot and maybe some of their curry, I would just hope the service is better next time. read more

After reading reviews I was excited to try this place. The food was delicious as promised, but my server was a little scatter brained and ordered the wrong roll. Also, there was some type of small price of paper or wrapper in my ramen. Normally, this would make me give one or 2 stars, but Yoko (not sure if she is the owner or just a manager) was incredible. FANTASTIC!, went on a Saturday and to start of, the service by out waiter was top of the line. Blonde tall dude is very polite and nice, he even made the cocktail that it was recommended. Service is 5 stars in my opinion, and the food...THE FOOD.. GREAT!. Had some sushi rolls, pork bun, a mushroom soup with coconut milk ( Thai ). This place is medium to high price range so is nice for a date or when treating yourself for some deliciousness. Writing this review base on me been eating there 3 time for dinner with friends, lunch and lunch take out. Wasn't really impress about the thing I ordered the first time with my friend but two days ago I was extremely hungry at work so I ordered their crab fry rice, OMG!!! It was in heaven, I didn't know that grab meat, rice, egg, tomato with scallion with avocado would make such amazing delicious interesting taste and their use real blue grab meat not the artificial ones and rice was beyond soft and chewy !!! I will give 8 stars for this dish. So today I had another order for Bibimbap, have to say this place became one of my favorite place for take out in midtown and Design District!! I will try another for next week. Only thing I think need to be improve is that the Miso soup was too salty and taste like instant soup, can do better on that. I've been coming here for years. I love their food and I stand by that because it is delicious, but I just had the worst experience with who I can only believe is the owner. After ordering about 8 dishes to share, we ordered the jalapeño poppers from the happy hour menu and it wasn't what we expected. The tuna was cooked and the jalapeños were raw so it wasn't really for us, but we asked to pack it up and take it to go instead of returning it to the kitchen. We then proceeded to order another spicy tuna roll to take when the server mentioned they would have to charge the $15 for the roll instead of $8. I didn't think this was okay considering the circumstances so I asked if he could bring it to the table, we would eat some and probably take the rest to go. The owner then came to the table and said we could not do this because IT IS COMMON SENSE AND I SHOULD BE ABLE TO KNOW THAT. Mind you, nowhere on the menu does it say we cannot take things to go at this price - nowhere. This is policy, regulation, company rules - not common sense. Never have I been insulted in such a manner at an establishment. Also, being a restaurant manager for 10 years I would never dare to speak to a guest this way. When I approached her before leaving and apologized if I made anyone uncomfortable but she should not speak to customers in that way because it's disrespectful, she proceeded to roll her eyes and turn around. So sad that I went to have dinner with my mom, was having an amazing time and left with never wanting to return to this place again. I'm gonna miss the amazing food, not the values. read more

We love this place! We started with cocktails and made our way through the Appetizer / Crudo page of the menu for a delicious few hours. Highlights were the ceviche, ahi tuna poké, gyoza, steamed pork buns, and grilled octopus. Oh and that mixed fruit cobbler with the matcha green tea crumble...fantastic!! Oh what a tiny gem in Buena Vista area! Had lunch here and I am surprised how cute this place is! Their lunch menu looked good, and the prices are reasonable! I had chicken pad thai and it was very good, I really enjoyed it. Great selections of sushi, rolls and sashimi too! Place looks clean, service is awesome. They have an outdoor area at the back if you choose to eat outside! Parking is usually a problem in this area, but Shokudo has its own parking lot on the side which adds convenience if you wanna dine here. Came here for dinner with a colleague and the experience was cool. The interior/exterior is a mix between trendy and upscale but the prices weren't crazy. I ordered delivery so I can only review what arrived at our place. I was in the mood for soup, so we got the ramen and the pho, the broth for the ramen was so salty it was inedible! There was also a measly piece of pork that was paper thin. The broth for the pho had almost a half inch thick layer of oil, I had to spoon out as much oil as possible to even try to taste the broth which was not spicy as it states on the menu and it didn't taste like pho broth...we also ordered the eggplant appetizer which was $10, we got literally 6 tiny little pieces of eggplant, I could've bought 5 large whole eggplants for that price!!! I have never understood how one of the most ancient, complex and civilized nations in the world decided that eating food with two tiny sticks, uncomfortably positioned between arthritically-formed fingers was the most efficient way. Don't get me wrong, mastering the chopstick is a visual art that conveys sophistication, coordination and panache. But objectively speaking, trying to pick up a [naturally] slimy raw fish from a small plate and bringing it to your lips, as it weaves and wobbles, trying to perform a triple-spin-pike dive back into the tiny bowl of soy sauce in front of you, cannot possibly be what's called efficient! I may have just ordered the wrong (two) items....but I was not impressed :(. The Thai ribs with bak choy and the shrimp dumplings both disappointed... The shrimp filling was too spicy for a delicate shrimp, so that you could not actually taste the shrimp. The dumpling dough was too heavy and thick, and the dumpling itself was not sealed so that the filling came out onto your plate as you picked it up. The "ribs" we're not ribs but rather thin slices of pork, heavily marinated and topped with a thick gritty (dare I say preheated) sauce with no particular pronounced flavour..just a muddy thick sauce. Hardly any bak choy, what there was had been chopped into small pieces and over sautéed. None of it was very fresh tasting and did no justice to how delish Thai food can be. We are traveling in Miami and find this restaurant near the design district. We wanted to try ramen noodle so we entered. They do have ramen noodle yet it's $18 per bowl. This is more expensive than most of the ramen shops in New York. And they only have chicken ramen and I asked if they could change to pork ramen and they said that they could but need to charge 2 more dollars. So it's $20 per bowl. So we thought it might be very good and we still go ahead and ordered. It took about half an hour for the food to be ready when there's almost no other clients but us in the restaurant. Finally the food is ready! Omg! I can't believe this is the ramen that costs $20 per bowl. The soup is almost cold, the egg is cold, the pork is tasteless, the noodle is so little... This is the worst ramen place that I've ever tried in my life... read more

The food was exquisitely prepared off an interesting and fun menu. We shared an assortment of small plates; all superb, but the the pulled pork bun was our favorite. All the staff were super-nice, attentive and professional. The outdoor courtyard has an intimate feel and provides a perfect atmosphere for relaxing (even in the heat of summer, we were comfortable there). The indoor area and bar looked equally inviting. The restaurant has only been open a week, but you would never know it. A great evening all around! We'll be back for sure. read more
