Went for a hike in la Jolla and browsed around to see what was good for brunch. Of course I used the Yelp app to help me find this amazing brunch spot. There was a little bit of a wait and we were put on the wait list. After giving the hostess my number so I could receive a text when my table was ready (which I loved) I also received a text to view their menu while we waited which was awesome!! After about 10 minutes we were seated at table by the window. Our waitress Rochelle was very friendly and helpful. Since I am currently on a particular diet I was able to customize my omelette to my liking wth no issues. Michael of course got the food he knew I would drool over and hate him for later. He got the Mango Oat pancakes and a side of house potatoes. I got the California omelette customized a bit. My omelette was amazing. Eggs were perfectly cooked. Really pleasant breakfast here, I'd heard this place was good but honestly I'm so skeptical now about everything, like when I see 4.5 stars somewhere and I eat there and think, WTF???? Is this a joke? 4.5?? But Shorehouse kitchen lived up to the hype for me, and that was even after looking at the menu and thinking there wasn't anything that really spoke to me, so I didn't know what to get. Anyhoo, I came for breakfast mid week in December so it wasn't crowded at all, and the friendly waitstaff provided a piping hot cup of coffee right away. Ordinarily I go for a pour over or cortado or something like that, but that brewed coffee was so tasty, not sure why, I know it was brewed in a big jug but it wasn't bitter and had great flavor notes throughout. However it did make me drink way too much and I had to piss an incredible amount the rest of the morning, but that's on me, no one forced that delicious coffee on me. I ordered the monterey omelet with potatoes and yogurt with fruit. The bacon was strewn throughout the omelet which was a plus, and the chilies were so flavorful and chopped perfectly, and the white cheddar just really made the dish come together. I didn't think I'd ever utter the words 'white cheddar made it come together', but it did somehow. Potatoes were crispy but not oily which is how I like it, and vanilla yogurt with fruit was the perfect side. Just an all around great breakfast, not too heavy or oily but tons of flavor, and regular old drip coffee really completed it. Definitely recommend coming here for breakfast, it's busy on the weekends and in the never ending summer here, but even for someone who hates to wait I think I'd wait to eat here! read more

I had a lovely, leisurely brunch at Shorehouse Kitchen on Friday, and I cannot wait to return again soon. I came here with a friend to do a bit of work for a couple hours while enjoying a few coffees and brunch. The restaurant was busy, but we were able to get a nice booth to spread all of our things out on. We started off with a Soy Latte and a Vanilla Chai Latte, and they were delicious with insanely unique foam art! There was a swirly pattern on one latte and a leaf on the other. It was so hard to choose one of the benedicts on the menu because the ingredient combinations were so unusual that I wanted to try them all! I ended up ordering the Roasted Roma Tomato & Quinoa Cake Benedict, and it was one of the greatest benedicts I have ever had in my life. The hashbrowns were also cooked to perfection! My friend got the Wild Mushroom and Spinach Benedict, and she subbed in the risotto cakes instead of the english muffin. She gave me a bite of the risotto cakes, and they were heavenly...definitely going to get that benedict next time I come! It was nice that no one seemed to mind how long we stayed, although I made sure that the restaurant never got too busy to where we should have given up our table for someone else to enjoy one of the delicious meals. Wow is all I can say about this place! It's footsteps away from the beach, the food is amazing, and the wait staff is on point every step of the way. I came bustling in this joint for some Sunday and brunch and decided to go with a little sampler. Ordered the chicken sandwich with maple bacon with a side of hashbrowns. The chicken was tasty and crunchy which I added some hot sauce to kick it up a notch! Hashbrowns hands down was the best I have ever tried. Crispy, buttery goodness. I also ordered the halzenut raspberry jam toast. If you put a nutella substance on anything it's instantly transcended, but this little slice of heaven was delish. To drink I had a cappacino that was not bitter and packed a whalop of caffeine to get me ready for my beach day! Finally the fresh squeezed OJ was to die for! Maybe it's bc I'm new to the south Cali scene bit I was blown away by how fresh and sweet it tasted. Get the large size if you order it. She had a list of personal recommendations which my friends and I decided to try. As busy as she was with other tables, she still managed to take the time to make sure we were provided with the best possible service! -French toast with fresh berries. It's like peas and carrots. They just work well together! Just writing a review about it makes me want to go back and order it again. But I shall refrain, in order to try their other items on the menu! - For a location, just walking distance from the beach, you would think the prices would be expensive! But they're not, matter of fact, it's very reasonable and affordable! -They serve freshly squeezed orange juice! That's automatic 5 stars in my book! - I got a chill and relaxed vibe while eating there. Outside seating in San Diego is always a bonus. Indoor seating feels homey and welcoming. I order turkey sausage and eggs. Good came out in about 20 more minutes. Food was cold. My server was nowhere to be found and I wasn't waiting for new food. After I was almost done eating she finally asked how everything was. I didn't even eat all of the food. Then I had to ask her for my check. There was no thanks for coming, nothing. I will never go back. I certainly don't need to pay to get treated like crap. Fabulous brunch spot! My mom sister and I came down to La Jolla shores to go kayaking in the caves... on a Saturday in August without a reservation... needless to say, we didn't manage the caves but DID manage a fabulous brunch when we stumbled up on this little corner cafe on the way back to our car. We walked up at about 1pm and they were busy but there was no wait. We sat on the covered patio which was kept cool by the breeze. I loved the doggy water bowl right near our chairs, as that showed they were pet-friendly. The best part about this place is the variety. It was 1pm and they were willing to serve both their breakfast AND lunch menus! Love that! I almost always feel like brunch so I went straight to my favorite: the eggs benedict! I love eggs benedict and the different spins on the dish so you can imagine my elation when I saw that they had not one, but TWO unique offerings: Roasted Roma Tomato & Quinoa Cake benedict and Seared Salmon & Baby Kale benedict! My momma loves to try new things almost as much as I do so we ordered both and shared. The Roasted Roma Tomato & Quinoa Cake benedict was flavorful and delicious! We were puzzled by the quinoa cake as we thought it would resemble a polenta cake but didn't really see much quinoa at all... The veggies were fabulous though: Grilled Zucchini rounds, cauliflower, Organic Spinach all covered in the egg yolk and Herbed Hollandaise... soooo gooooood! With the crispy hash browns on the side it was definitely worth the $12. I just wish we had more quinoa! Looking back at the pictures, I just really don't know where it was. The Seared Salmon & Baby Kale benedict was also awesome! Much more decadent with the thick and delicious Buttermilk Biscuit and Tarragon Bearnaise sauce but delicious nonetheless. The eggs were poached perfectly and the salmon was flakey and delcious. THe kale must have been baby kale because it was much softer than mature kale... it was almost the same as wilted spinach which I enjoyed cuz I love spinach and eggs! I was hesitant about the bearnaise sauce but it was surprisingly light and complimented the dish well. It was all a bit too rich after a while so I was glad to have been able to share with my mom. A great amount of food and quality for $13! My sister had the Brioche Breakfast Grilled Cheese with turkey sausage and crispy hashbrowns which she said was really flavorful and awesome. It is a Spinach Omelet with White Cheddar Cheese and Choice of Bacon, Sausage, Turkey Sausage, Canadian Bacon, or Fresh Tomato Served with your Choice of Side for $10. My two slight irks were the time it took for our food to come (30 mins AT LEAST) and that the "crispy hashbrowns" were not infact crispy at all. I ordered them because I like my hashbrowns literally BROWN, dark brown even - or none at all. My sister's came out like this... mine and my mother's did not. I was so disappointed that I actually asked if I didn't order correctly (I didn't emphasize "crispy" like my sister did) but our server said no, that's just how they come. She was gracious enough to bring me another, well done, "crispy" side of hashbrowns and I felt bad for wasting the ones that were barely cooked but I know from now on: must say "CRISPY" or even "WELL DONE" cuz those crispy, crunchy, greasy kind are what I LIKE! Breakfast on the sunny patio near La Jolla Shores feels breezy and awesome with a beachy atmosphere. The patio has a sun-screen overhead so I don't bake. Server Kelly and other staff are as helpful as if I was the only customer! They know the whole menu and go over it with me. On my 2nd visit recently I enjoyed the Carnitas Chilaquiles with 2 eggs, red bell peppers, onions, queso fresco, fried jalapeño, and spicy tomatillo sauce plus spicy red sauce for $12. The homemade sauces are delish, although the entree isn't very spicy. The Chilaquiles were flavorful, although a few bites of carnitas were less than tender, but that's me being picky. Also too many crunchy corn tortilla strips stole a lot of my sauces and egg yolk by soaking it up. When I was full I had a plate full of corn tortilla strips soaked with sauce. I recommend the Chilaquiles, but I suggest they use fewer corn tortilla strips. If you want more heat, ask for extra jalapeños. I'll also request extra cheese next time. On my 3rd visit I ordered the Roasted Roma Tomato and Quinoa Cake Benedict, with grilled zucchini, organic spinach, and herbed hollandaise, for $12. It comes with crunchy hash browns. The actual fried quinoa patty is bland if you taste it by itself. It comes with the veggies and hollandaise sauce on top, and while it was pretty good, it might be great if they added fresh garlic or jalapeños to the quinoa. This entree was ok, but a little too bland for me. Maybe they could cook the quinoa in a tasty vegetable broth to give the grain more flavor before they fry it. Since their coffee isn't a dark roast, I ordered a double cappuccino. Then the server gave me a free cup of coffee and guess what, Mel J the dark roast coffee snob approves! Great coffee, considering it's not a dark roast. This review is for 3 visits...the first visit was for iced espresso and a pastry to go only. The next 2 visits were for sit-down meals on the pleasant patio. Need it cheap and simple? 2 poached eggs and toast are $6. I was surrounded by customers with beach hair, tans, or sunburned noses, on a patio with around 14 tables. Customers are a mix of locals and tourists, and It's fun to have a "vicarious" vacation by listening to stories about water sports and other ocean adventures! (-; Breakfast is served all day woo-hoo but they close at 3:00pm. My bear claw for $3 was ok. The zucchini bread is pretty good, and not too sweet. Next time I'll put some butter on it. I haven't found my favorite go-to sweet treat at Shorehouse kitchen yet. Their pastries and biscuits are baked fresh in house by the pastry chef, and some are from the local bread and cie bakery of San Diego. Parking is doable, but you'll need to grab a 90-minute or 2 hour spot nearby. I'll be back to try the carmelized Tahitian vanilla bean French toast for $9. This is a friendly and fun beachy cafe within walking distance of La Jolla shores beach. Parking is strictly enforced in La Jolla so watch your time or you'll get a parking ticket! Beware! A pretty darned nice little restaurant, located in the high rent district, La Jolla Shores. I was greeted efficiently, and after choosing the patio, was seated immediately. I was a bit concerned because it was a typical June day, overcast, and a little windy. However, the overhead radiant heaters warmed up me and my attitude immediately. My order was the Shorehouse Cheeseburger ($12), which came with onions either raw or grilled, a couple of fresh tomato slices, one thin leaf of lettuce, and a full-size pickle wedge. The burger patty was perfectly grilled to my order and was nicely seasoned and juicy. It had a thin layer of American cheese melted on it. The bun was super fresh and soft. This burger was a real handful. Fries were included, thinly sliced, verging on shoestring potatoes, not a complaint, just an observation. The fact that they were way oversalted is a complaint, though. I left most of them, regrettably, but the few I ate were very good, not counting the NaCl. I looked around for a ketchup bottle, but there was only one of those little hot sauce squeeze bottles on the table. Oh, that's the ketchup? Never mind. The service was good, thanks Gabrielle. Now that we have the good out of the way...here's the not so good (we dined on New Year's Day when we were on our way to San Diego). - Parking: We lucked out and got to park in one of the three spots in the back of the restaurant. Otherwise, its street parking. - Wait Time: 45 minutes to an hour - the thing that really gets me about this place is that the hostess was also busing tables (talk about understaffed). This resulted in us watching 3-4 tables stay dirty and unattended for the 45 - 60 minute wait. I almost wanted to get up and clean those tables myself just so we and other patrons could have a seat and get some food. - Dirty: As we were finally seated, our waitress took our drink order. He got a water...the glass had lipstick stains all over it! Unacceptable. There should be some form of quality control with things like this whether it be from the cooks/dishwahers/wait staff...someone should have caught it. Our waitress then brought our utensils and luckily she caught the dirty fork before I could and replaced it. - Food: He got the lox and bagel. Was offered an everything bagel, but given a plain bagel because they ran out. If you ran out, don't offer it. The tomatoes were over ripe and mushy. I got the eggs benedict with tomatoes on the side. Benedict was decent, but those tomatoes...I took one bite and realized they were past their prime. I'll start this off with saying the food was great. And they have the best coffee I've ever had, and I really would like to go back, unfortunately I don't know that it is safe for me to go back. I have a peanut allergy and came here today for breakfast with my girlfriend, I had the Tahitian French toast and informed the waitress of my allergy, she said she would make sure it was safe and came back and said that it was. Soon after, I started to feel as if I had low blood pressure, with dizzy spells, and these have persisted most of the day, and now I'm also feeling like my throat is burnt, so I think almost certainly that peanuts ended up in my food. I carry an Epi pen around, so it's a very severe allergy, and I take it very seriously, because it could potentially cause me to die. Not super impressed because this happened, food is great, but if you have any allergies, please be careful coming here. Not sure how seriously they're taken in the kitchen unfortunately. read more

We were in San Diego for the weekend decided to venture out to La Jolla for brunch and we were glad we did. We got there around 12:30 or so on a Sunday and waited about 20 minutes. They had nice shaded wait area with chairs and benches so waiting 20 minutes was not too stressful. The ambience in the patio area was very beach-city. And I love the fact that the patio area was nicely shaded as today was rather a warm day for November. Food was fantastic. My bf's Crispy Parmesan Risotto & Honey Cured Bacon was to die for and my California Omelet was just as great. Service was friendly and swift. Free street parking for 90 minutes was not hard to find. Came back to Shorehouse during the weekend for brunch, and the overall experience was significantly better. When we first walked up, we gave our name to the hostess and expected to wait. We saw the pastries and wanted to check them out, but fortunately a table was available. My bf and I were seated inside. I ordered two eggs (scrambled), with toast, crispy hash browns, and a side of bacon. Our server was very nice and answered questions we had about some of the menu items. To drink I ordered an iced coffee. I went back to check out the pastries and they all looked really good. I asked the lady at the register what was popular, most of the Yelp pics are of the sticky buns, but the croissant, scones, muffins, all looked really good. I asked about the cinnamon roll and how long to heat. She was very informative on recommendations and pros and cons of some of the pastries. I decided to wait till after brunch to see what I would be craving. When the food came out, I was ready to eat. The side of bacon came with 4-5 pieces which surprised me (usually you get 1-3). I asked for jam for the bread and was expecting jam in the small plastic containers that usually sit on tables. I was given a miniature single serving version of jam in a jar. This was one of the small things I noticed that I thought was pretty cool. They also have stevia in the raw and sugar in the raw instead of the artifical sweeteners. The food was good. The manager (I think she was the manager) was also there walking around. She came by our table, and other tables, checking on us to see if we needed anything. By the end of the meal, I was pretty full, but really really wanted to try a pastry. We ended up getting the cinnamon roll to go to eat later. There are definitely many other pastries I would like to come back and try since they all looked good. Overall the atmosphere, experience, food, was significantly better. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, and I feel bad not getting everyone's name. I definitely will be back to try more things. read more

Because my boyfriend lives in La Jolla, this place was a 2 minute walk for us. We decided to try it because it was new and it was super close to us though I would not drive all the way to La Jolla to eat here. FOOD -- I had the soup and my boyfriend had the chilaquiles. Both not very memorable at all and the portions are SO SMALL for the price. Granted it's the location but still. SERVICE -- They need to do a better job at training their staff. Everyone seemed unprofessional and it took our waiter 30 minutes to get me a straw. Coffee from Cafe Calabria is always great. This already means that the restaurant appreciates good coffee. Location is also excellent - it's in the not-too-crowded part of DT La Jolla. Ahh, another awesome brunch place in Sunny San Diego. Close to the beach, most of the parking in this area is 2 hour street parking, so time yourself carefully! For a table for 2 on a Saturday morning we waited about 40-ish mintues for a table on their patio. I got the salmon and baby kale Benedict and my bf got the Monterey omelet. The eggs were perfectly cooked and oozed o so beautifully over the benedict as you break through the yolk. It was served on a buttermilk biscuit which adds a sweet taste to the benedict and helps offsets the strong taste from the fish. The hash browns that were served with the meal were perfectly crispy on the outside, with enough softness in the inside. It was amazing! As for the monterey omelet, my bf was nearly crying from how good it was. That is seriously all he kept saying during the entire brunch so you'll have to take his word for it...! The cup had its own built in thermal cozy which was nice. Complimentary lemon-infused ice water station in a to-go cup. Really nice staff and fast service. Reminiscent of The Cottage, Shorehouse Kitchen came as what turned out to be a great recommendation from a friend. The atmosphere is very spacious airy with a fantastic outdoor patio. Starters and drinks came in the form of a delicious salted caramel latte, French press coffee and some roasted brussel sprouts (decent and a little too sweet, probably wouldn't get them again). For mains, the dishes were quite solid overall with my seared salmon & baby kale benedict substituting quinoa cakes for the English muffin being by far the tastiest one. My girlfriend's short rib has & eggs was also well done, just not standout in any way. On the sweeter side, I'd pass on the French toast. My friends ordered it as a side, but I'm honestly not sure if it was the caramelized Tahitian vanilla one served as an entree b/c it was pretty darn bland. If I could give 0 star, I would have. The extra 1 star is for the food, which is not bad, but average food. We ordered caramelized toast and short rib harsh. I'm not complaining about the food, because the price is very reasonable. The SERVICE, is very bad! First, we were told our food would be ready in 30 mins, it came out exactly 60 mins after. After we finally got our food after 1 entire hour, and ready to enjoy it, the rude service by the waitress at the patio seating area really pissed us off. I don't understand how she got this job because she clearly doesn't know anything about customer service and experience. If you would like to pay 15% tip for no service after 1 hour wait (actually, worse than no service - it was rude service) and ruin your beautiful Saturday, this is the place. read more

Taste-wise the short rib hash was pretty good, but felt like it was pretty expensive. I know there are plenty of great options for breakfast in this area and prefer The Cottage or other spots over here. read more

We love this place for breakfast and lunch. Excellent coffee; friendly service; delicious food. Indoor and open air seating. My personal favorite items here are Angus Short Rib & Hash Brown Potato Cakes with eggs, French Toast, and Brioche Grilled Cheese. Friends enjoy the Beach Bowl. Pet friendly and Doggie Menu. Street parking only, which can be a challenge in La Jolla Shores. Be prepared to wait for a table on weekends and during the summer. read more
