Great coffee. Cute decor and feel. I like that they had fresh peaches when I went in. The prices are reasonable and I liked that they put simple syrup and soy milk out. I hate that some places make you pay $0.75 for a splash of soy milk as creamer when the whole container costs $2. They seem to have some baked goods and snack if you're on the go and they have a lot of options for tea. The specialty drinks may take a bit longer to make then your local Starbucks, but totally worth it at a comparable price and you're supporting a local business. I've been back 3x in the past week. Cute corner coffee shop in the neighborhood where our airbnb was located. We had to wait in a short line, which gave us a good chance to check the place out. There were a number of people there but it didn't seem cramped at all. Every single child there was reading something and they have a big selection of children's books available on a shelf for those who didn't bring their own. I ordered a chai with almond milk and it was perfectly made. The pastries were calling our names but we were soon heading to brunch so we didn't get a chance to check them out. After walking back and forth between two different coffee shops in the area, I had just about given up. Both were tiny and every single seat were taken up. every. single. seat. As we hopped into our car and drove down the street, I saw Shot Tower Coffee with empty tables! PRAISE! We parked and headed in where we gained access to seats, tables and wonderful coffee. It shouldn't have been so difficult but we were taking the "Ls" all day trying to find a coffee shop to study at. On that note, i have a huge bias for Shot Tower now. Shot tower isn't a HUGE place but they have a decent amount of seating. They also have fairly priced lattes and access to wifi. Just forewarning though-- there's a $5 charge minimum. read more

Glancing down at my receipt from yesterday's café au lait from Shot Tower, I notice the wifi password is typed along the bottom, clearly visible. That, my friends, is the sign of a business that thinks about their customers. If only I would have noticed it yesterday when my wireless card kept crapping out on me, I would have saved myself a ton of frustration! Next time. The open space with minimal table seating (only one community table is available) and a ledge with stools that line the windowed walls is very inviting. So was the barista on my visit, who seemed to know every customer who walked through the doors. The stools became a bit uncomfortable after a while, which is why I eventually decided to move on, but I could definitely see myself hanging at one of the outdoor tables on a breezy fall day. My laptop WiFi kept disconnecting. I had to manually reconnect about 10 times before finally leaving. The espresso was very good and strong, but it was only a small thimble-sized shot, portioned for an ant I can only assume. It came with a dirty spoon. Scrub harder on the dishes. read more

I'm so glad to see new coffeeshops opening and serving the incredibly complex Stumptown to save us from the iron grip of lackluster La Colombe coffee. My usual morning red eye was strong, and pretty reasonable to boot ($2.85 for the 12oz coffee + shot). Looks like there were some panini offerings, too. I didn't get to stick around yesterday, but I would love to spend an afternoon here with my laptop in the future. read more

The coffee is great! The soundtrack is well-curated. The interior space is nice. The baristas are cute! It's in my neighborhood. It even stayed open during a driving blizzard... However, I agree with one of the other reviewers that it might be a difficult place to work. The seating is conceptually interesting (communal), but not ideal for being productive. Not the coziest coffee place ever, but I enjoyed the vibe a lot. I really liked my café au lait and my girlfriend enjoyed her cappuccino. So that's that. I'm sitting at one of the bar window seats right now and having a fantastic experience. You wouldn't think a nice little coffeeshop would be sitting on a street corner in this residential area, but I'm sure glad it is. The good thing about this area is parking is relatively easy to find (and free!), and it isn't as congested with people as other places in Center City. Some of the best perks: - Shot Tower serves Stumptown, which isn't that common. But it is so delicious! - I love a place that has lots of natural sunlight, and this place has tons of it! Basically 2 of the walls are all windows, allowing tons of sunlight in. - Maybe this might be a minus on busy days, but I like that there is a lot of space inside and they don't crowd their floor space with too many tables/chairs. Basically the windows are lined with bar stools (with plenty of outlets along one wall) and a large long table with swivelly seats. Quite a few tables and chairs outdoors too. Might I also add that the music selection is nice and the volume is unintrusive. I think I just found another coffeeshop to add to my rotation of favorite spots to park myself w/coffee and work! read more

I give it a 5 on atmosphere and 4 on product (nothing super special about their coffee) and a 3 for comfort. Very hipster modern but not overwhelmingly hipster. Great service. Philadelphia magazine rated it one of the coziest coffee shops in the city but to be honest it's not that cozy. Wooden benches and such. Just isn't cozy. read more

Shot Tower is wonderful. Adorable space and easy for us non-city dwellers to snag a parking spot nearby. I am a big fan of the long community table. As for the coffee- I had one of the most delicious cappuccinos of all time at Shot Tower. I'm in a bad habit of always grabbing coffee from a chain on the go. You can really taste the difference and quality here. Staff was friendly. You can use a card for anything over $5. Wouldn't change a thing about Shot Tower. read more

3.5 Stars I grew up in love with the abandoned building Shot Tower moved in to. I really wanted it to become my new favorite coffee place, especially because it is just down the street from where I work. I have absolutely no problem talking to complete strangers and making new friends but I'm just not so sure I like to sit next to them on swinging stool seats at a community table if I'm trying to have a coffee shop type conversation with a friend. It's not cozy and intimate and felt a bit chilly inside on the rainy Thursday afternoon I spent there. It felt a bit industrial. The coffee I had was supposed to be a light roast but was very dark in flavor. I like to drink coffee black with stevia, but as it cooled, it was delicious with soymilk. They had a great selection of teas. I will try it again to see if I can like it better... read more

Their coffee is phenomenal. The latte is phenomenal. Mocha, ditto. The coffee shop is airy and open. It's easy to find and really everything a coffee shop should be. It's a good place for a meeting with a friend or two, however, they don't have a lot of space, so if you have a study group, I advise looking elsewhere. They also allow dogs to come in, which is terrific when my cocker and I are on a walk and I just happen to need a cup of coffee. read more

While out running errands on my day off and enjoying the gloriously, surprisingly warmish weather, I needed a quick break and noticed Shot Tower Coffee's sign not too far away. I walked into the corner cafe where a handful of people were sitting chatting together, reading, or working while enjoying their beverages and checked out the small beverage menu and the assorted baked goods on display. The cafe has a very open feel to it, with a long communal table at the center, a long bar along the window next to it, and a few seats on the side, which looked to be the most comfortable, especially since they were all taken. The ambiance is minimalism and natural, and its the type of laid back vibe that a mostly residential area needs. I wasn't hungry, just a bit warm and thirsty, so I went with an iced coffee. They brew Counter Culture Coffee, and damn is it delicious! They also have a pretty decent assortment of loose leaf teas displayed along the wall behind the counter. The staff were quiet but nice - which goes along with the cafe's vibe. Its a lovely place to stop by for a pause to enjoy the simple pleasures in life - like ridiculously good coffee. read more

Love the atmosphere here. Lovely light-filled corner location with windows that are almost floor-ceiling. The seating is either barstools along a window ledge or communal seating at a large wooden table. What's fun about this table is the seats - smallish wooden rounds that are attached to the underside of the table that swing out from the table and spin - so if you are fidgety like me - you can be constantly moving. Coffee is yummy though they don't have fat free milk for my latte - 2% is as low as you can go - but hey, you only live once. Selections a refreshingly simple and there is a list of teas as well. Food has made an appearance since my first visit and in addition to a smattering of breakfast pastries, there seems to be a few generous looking sandwiches on offer. Everyone here is SO NICE and always smiling. It's really refreshing to see these days, and it actually makes my morning. Some coffee shops in the area can be a bit pretentious and snobby, but I've never felt that vibe here. The coffee here is great! My boyfriend and I love both love coming here. The service was friendly, coffee was Stumptown priced and delicious. I loved the layout but you better be cool with neighbors, because the only single seating is really outside. I like the simplistic show design though and don't mind the european style seating. Personally, I think they could add a lot more tables and still have space but, it's all good! ----Read on for my epic journey (Long version)---- My journey was longer that day. I knew I was destined to try Shot Tower Coffee as my new coffee quest embarked. I left my house, destined for the corner spot. My Pandora mix was esoteric, VAC with a mix of Grendel, Frontline Assembly and a few others. Happily, angrily, I was strolled. My target neared, a green door facing the corner, I was there. I opened the door and found an attentive barista. There was a bastion of space; a space that felt under utilized but on purpose. A long bar for people watching; a European style surfboard table that floated atop the wake of bubbles. A parched wall of raw stone with skittering cracks rested behind the cafe. I liked where I was. Finally, time to order. Before I could speak, I noticed that I - in fact - forgot my wallet. Defeated, I declared, "Guess I'll be coming back with my wallet." Incredulous, the barista dipped his head with a mild chuckle, one that I joined. Ashamed, I exited. --- Meanwhile, at the Hall of Primary Comfort... Static circled. She leaped onto the coffee table and stared at the black object set precariously and accidently on the edge. She crept forward... but wait! Pharaoh is now on the scene, staring at Static and waiting to ambush her before she could investigate further. Alarmed, Static turned. POUNCE! Pharaoh sprung from the shadows and tackled the gray tabby. The fierce feline struggled to regain top position, and as her paw thwacked Pharaoh, he retreated to whence he came, knocking my wallet to the floor and under the couch. --- My mission was not over, simply delayed. I realized where my money was and did not wish to waste any time. I closed and locked my azure blue door and looked to the stained table circa 1975. Nothing. I checked my sh*tcatcher near the door, no dice. My feet hoisted me upstairs in a building panic where I found and rifled through my work slacks for the missing black leather keep safe. As I turned them on end, only a spare quarter drifted lazily out of the pocket and thundered against the hard wood planks. The slacks dropped from my grip as I ran downstairs to find two cats waiting, demanding my attention and perhaps, only slightly, begging for another treat. Like Vietcong tripwires, they intercepted my passage into the family room where I searched, desperately. My palms sweated. My head boiled. My fingers twitched. Then, serendipitously, a black object winked at me from within the darkness, which loomed under the brown leather couch. My journey was to continue. Again I passed through the green portal into the simplistic yet welcoming Shot Tower Café. Again the barista met me as I offered, "I have returned, this time with money." "Well, I hope this will be worth it," he replied. He wasn't snarky, it was genuine, a sort of friendly response you'd hope for in the walks of Queen Village. Quickly, he prepared my large iced coffee at the price of $3.75. Prepared, I withdrew the money and set it on the counter, leaving the quarter behind. Initially, I scoped my surroundings and decided to sit outside. A beacon, the sun pierced betwixt nearby trees on 6th directly onto my netbook screen. As if mocked, I retreated to Christian and sat. My netbook was almost ready. As I took the first sip of my fresh, Stumptown delight, the clouds rolled in, threatening rainfall. In that moment, I remained defiant. I remained stalwart. If it were to rain in this abnormally soggy August, I was going to enjoy my DAMN coffee outside and be unbothered by my continued misfortune. Remarkably, my perseverance bore fruit, and the storm past without precipitation. I smelled victory, a cold brewed victory and I was ready to enjoy the rest of it, every drop. read more

Move into the area and tried out a few coffee places and this one has the best coffee of the area. Don't consider myself a coffee snob but something about the espresso is so delicious. I just discovered Shot Tower this past weekend and have already gone a few times, not to mention picking up two packages of Stumptown beans (one for myself, one for a gift). I swing through Shot Tower on the way home sometimes and every visit is different. Sometimes the staff is nice, polite, chatty (not obnoxiously), and helpful. Other times, I get eye rolls, sighs, and the sneaking feeling like I'm disrupting their day. Hit or miss. The coffee is usually consistent and good, but there were one or two times where the milk was over-steamed and funky and the iced drink was not topped off. The atmosphere is kind of weird to me. It is open and light and airy feeling, but most of the times I have been, it is entirely devoid of conversation. Everyone is plugged into their device and tapping away, only looking up to give you a dirty look because you made some noise grabbing a napkin. If you have a kid, the looks are even more icy. Bottom line: I stop in for the occasional good cup of coffee, don't stay, and continue homeward. read more

And then it happened I was sleepy and let myself have a soy latte. HELL to the yes. I have been a barista for years now, and most places can't make a latte worth shit. The baristas here are gods. Stylishly decorated, open and bright, and serving the same awesome Stumptown coffee as its also-relatively-new-to-the-scene cousin Bodhi at 2nd and Pine. My first couple of trips to Shot Tower in its first weeks of operation were, I have to say, a bit disappointing purely in terms of the quality of coffee, surprisingly. Gladly, I chose to chalk it up to "growing pains" and to keep going back, and I'm happy to say that they seem to have hit their stride. For the record, I am giving this place 4.5 stars.. I love shot tower's espresso, their hot chocolate, almond croissants and bruffins (a brownie masquerading as a muffin)... Yes I kinda love it here. Only one little issue I have. I don't mind paying for deliciousness, but I kinda have a problem that a "large americano" = extra $$ for the extra shot of espresso. Their iced coffee is to die for. When I asked for room for cream I was pleasantly surprised that they only gave me a millimeter of room instead of an inch like some chain shops. They have seating outside on both sides of the corner location and are located on the quietest part of Christian street. Perfect for reading relaxing and people watching. Inside there are bar seats, a table with slide out seats akin to lunch room seating, and a few sets of tables and chairs for dates or friendly gatherings. This is not a flop down on a sofa kind of coffee shop but it is WiFi capable with lots of seating and snacks/sandwiches - I'm adding it to my list of day off hangouts! read more

I have nothing against big chain coffee as I frequent it often but, I always take the opportunity to visit the coffee houses whenever I am in Philadelphia. Due to it's proximity to most of the things I do in Philly I find myself at Shot Tower at least a handful of times in a month. It is easily one of my favorite coffee establishments in Philly. My wife had the opportunity to visit Shot Tower over the weekend and immediately recognized the difference in taste, and make up of her vanilla latte compared to what she drinks on a regular basis. At first I was excited to have a coffee shop two blocks from my house, because it meant I didn't have to walk to the Italian market to get a nice hot cup of coffee! However when I walked into Shot Tower I was disappointed. I got a small coffee without looking at the menu and was handed an 8 oz. cup of coffee that I looked absolutely ridiculous holding.To me, a small coffee is 12 oz, even at other similar yuppie coffee places in the area. And $1.75? I could get a vente at Starbucks for that price. But hey, 6th and Christian has been a yuppie corner for a while and it's a cute place. On another occasion I sat at one of the tables outside and it was cosy, and I knew to order a medium coffee this time. It is what it is. read more
