#1 - any restaurant that has all day operating hours is a winner. Most Indian/Pakistani (same cuisine) open then close around 2 and open back up at 5. They also refuse entrees during buffet hours. Everyone at Shyan's was really nice and while I waited on my order they offered me drinks to make me comfortable. Even though I have eaten nearly every Pakistani chicken dish, they explained certain things as I couldn't find one of my favorites on there. They explained the base for another dish was the same so I would enjoy it. They were right. I really enjoyed my Biryani however, some of the rice didn't seem as coated in spices. The tikka masala was really good and it was indeed like the other dish I usually order. Either way I would have been happy since they had steered me in the right direction. Now. They talked me out of getting a side of rice with my tikka to which I was confused. You never pay extra for the rice. Well, you do here- that is, if you want your naan included. Their reasoning (which isn't flawed) is that you get either rice or you get naan included. You either use rice to soak up the liquid or naan. And since I had biryani that is rice based it would be best to get the naan. The price was really great, probably the cheapest I've ever had. So- here's the bad. They use those sectioned off styrofoam containers for carry out. For a dish like curry that means the liquid is floating around everywhere often spilling and soaking into the styrofoam. It's also liable to pop open before you even get to the car. I didn't like this for the biryani. It was harder to mix my taiga evenly with this type of container. One simple tweak and they'd be golden. The other restaurant I go to uses plastic bowls and tin dishes with a plastic lid for rice. One tweak. I will be going back but I was very bothered by how they serve their carry out. That is my one deterrence read more

Very good food! I can't wait to go back. The place seems to be family run, and the guy who waited on us (who I assume was the owner) was extremely friendly. I got a goat curry and the Naan with rosewater and golden raisins. I was impressed with both things. I wish I would gave gone with a group of people so we could have tried everything! Excited to try something new, as there are few options for decent Indian in the area. Small portions of very well flavored curry. To be safe I got the chicken tikka masala, which I ordered spicy. It's delicious, fragrant, a little heavy on the cumin. Cooked to order, but didn't take much time. Maybe ten minutes. Ordered a chai which I wish was stronger, but it was homemade. I'm searching far and wide for decent Indian in the greater New Orleans area. This definitely hits the spot, but I was craving papadum and a little tamarind. Probably best for lunch. Ordered online. Picked up food which was ready on time. Arrived home and discovered one item missing (Methi Partha). It was too much trouble to have to drive there and back again so we ate the food that was there. Food was pretty good but I was aggravated that whoever filled the order could not count and see that they only put four things in the bag out of five things ordered. My very first pakistani/indian experience, it was +100! Cant wait to lvl up, bc the first time and the second time dining was awesome. It was really nice getting to know the guy serving me, he was very helpful on making decisions for me. I had the lamb tikki masala, their coffee, some other things that i cant remember. I just know it was pretty awesome trying the food for the very first time ever. The second time i ordered takeout, the people were nice enough to let me order before closing. I look forward to coming back here! Don't be fooled by this 3-star review. The staff was lovely and I REALLY enjoyed my meal - it just wasn't one of the best I've ever had. I happened to be driving down Vet's at dinner time, looked to the right, and saw their big red sign! I didn't have time to eat in, so I immediately scoured their Yelp reviews and called in an order to-go. Ten minutes later it was ready and I was on my way! I ordered the mutter paneer, daal fry, pakora app, garlic naan, and a small pratha. I was really looking forward to some daal, so I picked a couple of breads to soak it up with and unfortunately we miscommunicated and the daal was left off my order. I was already home (in 70117) before I realized it. Since I didn't get charged for it I can only assume the lady who took my order misheard me -- no problem, I'll come back and try it soon! I really enjoyed their food. The mutter paneer over basmati was great. The paneer was cooked perfectly and I really enjoyed the mild flavors of this dish. The garlic naan was also delicious but it nearly begged to sop up some sauce and there was none to be had. I had some leftover daal I had made a few days back so I'll enjoy the rest of my naan with that for lunch tomorrow. The small pratha was lovely - really enjoyed that. The only part of the meal I wasn't impressed with was the pakoras - they just didn't taste fresh. It tasted like maybe they were part of a larger batch and had been reheated in a microwave. Likewise, the styrofoam box holding my paneer was warped on the bottom which made me think they stuck it in a microwave for a second before packing it. I love Indian/Pakistani food. I had many Pakistani friends growing up and would eat at their homes. This place has the best goat biryani in New Orleans. The spice level is great. The chicken tikka masala was good but I prefer bigger chunks of chicken. The service leaves something to be desired but the language barrier may be partially to blame. I just picked up a few things there. The staff was quite friendly and helpful with my ordering decisions. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala medium spicy, fried potato and onion pakora and ginger Naan. The flavors were great yet not over powering. The restaurant was clean and kozy. Everything was excellent. I got everything to go. The only complaint and it it trivial is that the masala sauce spilled out of the foam tray. So maybe a plastic container for sauced entrees. Other than that... Worst experience ever. Waiter approached 15 minutes after we were seated. After an hour of ordering waiter came out again telling us she missed the order. Warm and amiable hospitality coupled with really bad Indian food makes for a perplexing experience. The very friendly staff is always cited in reviews. The man with the beard is so friendly that you hesitate to say a bad word...but the food is awful. The papadums are 2.99 unless you want raita or tamarind chutney - normally served automatically with papadums. We were served three hot papadums wet with fryer oil. No chutneys or sauces as is normal. We asked for chutneys, the price went up to 6.99 - for papadums with chutney? The tikka masala was insipid but the worst of all was the lamb biryani. I knew when it came out quickly, there was trouble. Biryani is a slow cooked rice dish usually including green cardamom, black cardamom, galangal, onions, garlic and lamb. There are many styles and recipes for biryani. What biryani is not is basmati rice tossed in an annatto (yellow dye) spice mix with reheated lamb stew stirred into it. It was a fake biryani. Does the very jovial bearded man assume that no one in New Orleans has ever had good Indian food and won't know the difference? Great vibes...bad food. read more

Again, on my way back home, checked yelp for near by restaurants and found this gem. Good and tasty food with warm welcome. Ordered beef biryani, aloo-gobi(potato-cauliflower curry) and beef tikka karahi. We took rice as side with latter two items. Beef in biryani was so tender, felt like melted in mouth. Beef tikka karahi was well marinated and perfect with plain basmati rice. Aloo-gobi curry was also very good. Also ordered mango lassi. Though it tasted good but felt like made with bottled mango pulp. Will recommend everyone to try this restaurant and will go again to taste some other item from their menu. read more
