'it was hit or miss' was what my friend told me... And unfortunately, it was a miss for me that day. Everything (except for the cornbread) was undercooked and under seasoned. This small restaurant in a business and warehouse enclave was a total surprise on many levels. The biggest being how good a lunch we had here today. Thanks to yelp for introducing us as there is no way we would normally have come to this location. It's not on any of the main roads where we travel nor near our work. The menu is varied and large for such a small location. The chef's philosophy is for "serving healthy, gourmet, budget friendly (and tasty) meals". They have eat in, take out including pre packaged meals to take home, as well as doing catering. Each day they have blackboard specials and a soup of the day. They offer a "fresh express" lunch option from 11 am to 2:30 pm, with soup/salad, a protein, and 2 sides. There are many vegan and vegetarian options. All sorts of salads and sandwiches. And meat eaters are not left out with equally as many options. We both ordered from the 500 calorie meals (all $9.95 each) which can be picked up to take home and be heated and served, but also can be eaten in. My husband loved his bison meatloaf that came with vegetables and mashed potatoes. He said the brown gravy was quite good as well. I had their tasty grilled salmon with mixed vegetables and kitcheree. Kitcheree is a combo of yellow basmati rice and dal. I really liked the wild caught salmon and the seasoned vegetables (cauliflower, squash, bok choy, broccoli, peppers). The rice mix was just ok. There is a side counter where you help yourself to various condiments. You can season your food as desired. There's even hot peppers. We ordered at the counter. The drinks and meals were delivered to the table. We were checked on frequently. My iced tea was refilled often. We got to meet the owner who also made the rounds to check on everyone. Came for lunch today with a co-worker after wanting to try this place for a while. It was delicious and we will definitely be back. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful with menu options. I went with the Impossible Loaf and it was excellent. Tasty! The veggies and mashed potatoes that accompanied it was great too. Lots of Vegan options! This place is a hidden treat! If you're looking for healthy meals and super friendly service, then look no further! Upon entering you'll notice that this venue is pleasant from the get-go - spacious, relaxing and a clear menu above the cashier counter in plain site. As you approach the counter, the server(s) will immediately greet you with a smile. It was my first time here so the server asked if I wanted to try the lunch special, which consisted of one protein and two sides. It sounded delicious and I was already on board. What made this a memorable experience was that they let me see the food up close before choosing, which was a great alternative to pointing at pictures on a menu, which can often change. I also got a sample of the soup. I decided to go with the bison sliders, dhal rice, mashed cauliflower, and a cup of chicken noodle soup. Drinks include the usual canned options and there's also sweet tea and coffee available. The food arrived fairly quickly since it was already prepared and was presented on a snazzy rectangular plate. The food arrived warm and all of it was delicious. The bison sliders were tender, almost minced and was smothered in a light creamy mushroom sauce. The basmati rice was cooked well and thoroughly seasoned. The cauliflower mash had a good consistent texture and tasted as expected. The only minor complaint I have is that overall the food was a little bland for my taste. I was a bit surprised since the chef is Indian born, and most Indian cuisine I've tried has a good kick to it. I also grew up eating a lot of spicy food (where my Trinis at?) so I'm slightly biased in that category. For dessert, I got one of their chocolate Mason jars (cake, mousse, cookie mash up) and it was exquisite. The venue is large and contains many tables to choose from. I can definitely recommend this place for larger groups, especially since I arrived around noon and it wasn't very busy. If you're in need of healthy options, but more importantly, delicious food and great service, add this place to your lunch options. read more

The head chef used to be a chef in the White House (and as someone who used to work in the Eisenhower building, I assure you THAT is saying something.) There are a lot of athletes, trainers and even MMA fighters that come here because of the health content of the food; especially for those who focus on protein as the main ingredient. I recommend the impossible burger but honestly, you will absolutely not go wrong with whatever you end up choosing. The heat and eat meals they sell are only 500 calories, balanced, intelligently proportioned and taste VERY good! The price is also unbeatable. Several friends I have turned on to Sidewalk Chef will go at the beginning of every week and buy a bunch of heat and eat meals and just freeze them and then have their lunch and dinner for the week. It turns out to be less time consuming and more cost efficient than shopping at Publix ALL the time. Way too salty for a healthy restaurant, or any restaurant at all. We ordered the lemongrass chicken, the chicken salad, the impossible Sheppards pie, the bison burger, and the turkey tacos. Well, unfortunately my coworkers son ate two bites of the burger before tossing it, and my coworker could not eat the lemongrass chicken as it was way to salty (I tried it, I couldn't eat it either). The chicken salad was okay but it unfortunately was entirely dark meat and super super chunky. The Sheppards pie was good. The ground turkey tacos had the same salt issue and they were for my boss, so he was super upset and he couldn't eat them at all. I would not recommend coming here or ordering from them online. I've been going here for at least a year and my favorite entree is the Bison Burger Meatballs with the Mushroom Gravy (which for the most part, I order every time I come). They offer a Healthy Express Lunch Menu (which changes daily and includes the soup of the day or their usual soup), as well as 500 calories "Heat and Eat" prepped meals if you'd like to save time and not make them yourself. They also do catering for work/events if you ever need. The staff and the chef are extremely friendly and cater to your allergy needs or whatever you may need. He truly cares about providing a healthy alternative for food that is easily excessive-able! The hospitably that I received was with a capital "H". He welcomed me as a friend and a neighbor. He sent me home with samples of his energy bars. I purchased fresh cod dinners for my Father and Husband. I'm looking forward to going back to "dine in" for lunch.
