Sidewalk is a local cafe on Vermont offering a variety of excellent lunch options at an elevated prices. While ostensibly a Mediterranean restaurant, Sidewalk offers a variety of eclectic options worth a look. I came with three work colleagues for a Tuesday lunch. A little tired of Mediterranean, I ordered the BBQ Chicken Wrap ($21) with a side Tomato Soup and Mixed Green salad. I was struck by how delicious everything was. The Tomato Soup was fresh, tangy, light, and with a little kick of spice. The salad was fresh with a great dressing. The BBQ Chicken Wrap was delicious and well balanced with tangy barbecue chicken, soft beans and corn, and fresh vegetables. All three components were top notch, and left an excellent impression. The staff was nice and explained the menu. The ambiance was clean and seating breezy. You order from the front, and they deliver to your table. Prices, as stated above, are a little steep, but suddenly become reasonable when you sizing up the quality of the food and proportions. While a little imposing on the wallet, the strength of Sidewalk's menu deserves nothing short of 5/5 stars. Sidewalk Cafe, I will be back. Food: 5/5 Ambiance: 4.5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Value: 4/5

Was happy to see they offered dark meat kabobs, that's exactly what I was craving. Breast meat is often too dry for my taste. The chicken was moist and flavorful. They offer lots of sides that looked great. I would skip the roasted potatoes - they were fairly bland and undercooked - or request them cooked well done. The rice and Greek salad were good too. They have a nice big menu, generous portions and kind service. It was a very large portion of chicken. The garlic sauce (which I usually love everywhere I get it) was a bit on the chalky side for me, not sure how they managed that. They could give a bit more pita with this plate. It's a really cute and clean shop with a sweet patio.

    Patio is open.

Quality has unfortunately gone downhill here. I used to order and eat lunch from Sidewalk Grill very often, but I've been consistently let down lately. The biggest issue for me is the salads. The greens taste very low quality, with huge rough leaves that feel cheap and almost pre-made, like they just grill the protein and throw it on top. Their Mediterranean salad used to be my favorite, and there were times I ordered it almost every day, but the quality got bad enough that I stopped. I still like their chicken rice plate, and I usually get it with a Greek salad and hummus on the side, so I do still come back once in a while. But now it feels more like fast food than the fresh Mediterranean spot it used to be. Ambiance-wise, it's nice to sit outside on a sunny day, but there's really no vibe here--it feels like a quick in-and-out spot where people eat fast and leave. The outdoor seating is a plus, but there's no real customer service to speak of. I'm being generous with 3 stars.

Came in on a Tuesday night and ordered a $24 plate to be split between two people. Koobideh was made to order and took a while, but was high quality and very juicy. The rest of the meal was solid, rice came in a big portion but everything else was a bit small. The patio was a great place to have all to ourself and people watch. Overall a solid experience!

Sometimes all you want is good decent food and a comforting place, Sidewalk is this for me whenever I'm in the hood. Stepped in last night and the place was empty most likely due to the excessive rain as online couriers were bustling about. Sat down and enjoyed their lentil soup which was hot and hearty. Their filet skewer plate was so good with the hummus and garlic butter paste. Great friendly service and really nice interior to sit down and enjoy a meal for one. Thank you again!

Everything & everyone & all my food I came upon this place by accident. What a beautiful accident this is. Music is calming a well. I will be back!

Sidewalk Grill was just okay for me. I ordered the koobideh and it was honestly pretty mediocre. Comparing it to Raffi's, which is my favorite Mediterranean spot, this one fell short in flavor. The rice was also just meh and did not stand out at all. The potatoes and garlic sauce were great, but those are also hard to mess up. Service was good and friendly, which I appreciated. Overall I would give it about a six or seven out of ten. It was fine, but nothing memorable. I might try something else if I come back.

Came to Sidewalk Grill for dinner with my fiancé and had a great experience! We grabbed a paper menu as we walked in and ordered a sirloin plate with hummus and potatoes as sides, then one chicken kabob with no sides (it still came w rice and garlic spread). The service was great and fast; they brought us our food within 10 minutes and it was delicious! Loved the salad dressing and garlic spread. The potatoes were also delicious. Overall, we would definitely come back. Loved the music, there was plenty of seating, and the food/service was perfect.

We really enjoyed our tomato soups - delicious ! Both the chicken kabob and salmon wraps were tasty. Next time I think I'll ask for garlic sauce on the salmon for me. Yes, definitely a return trip.

Falafel Wrap with a side of potatoes

Can't go wrong with anything on the Menu . Everything is delicious ! This is the falafel wrap and it's so fulfilling!

Head to the partially sectioned off cocktail bar. Want to spend a balmy summer evening with friends? Enjoy an Aperol spritz and salad in the garden patio. Want a cozy book nook? Enjoy a late night pot of tea and slice of cake in an overstuffed armchair in the back. The only problem is that I always want all of these vibes at once and end up spending way too much money (no matter how hard I try I can never leave without a $12 slice of cake). This kind of space is so hard to find and has to be created organically. It's not so old that it feels stuck in time, but it's not so new that it feels devoid of character and history. Any place that makes me feel like I can stay a while can take all my hard earned money.

We ordered at the counter inside and sat at a cute umbrella shaded table on the patio close to the entrance. We'd already had our coffee so we ordered a big bottle of sparkling water with lemon and two Quiches. I went with veggie and mom went with the Lorraine (ham & cheese). The quiches came out in about 20 minutes and the presentation was very nice. Each quiche was served in an individual cast iron dish along with a fresh side salad, dressing on the side. My quiche was delicious. Full of fresh veggies and perfectly cooked. The salad was a healthy accompaniment. My mom's quiche on the other hand was a bit dried out and tasteless. Sadly, she was unable to eat it. I shared mine with her, and we told the folks at the counter. While they didn't take it off the (pricey) check, they did offer any dessert on the house. I opted for a mini citrus olive oil cake which I took home. Still have not tried it... but it looks good. So the verdict on the Alcove is that it is very cute inside and out. There is TONS of outdoor seating in the front and on the side. There's also lots of cute & eclectic seating inside. There's a beautiful antique bar, neat little seating nook in the back, and a spot for everyone. They have valet parking, and there's tons of street parking on adjacent side streets. Alcove really has some potential and it is a chill, aesthetic, and relaxing place to have breakfast or lunch, work on a laptop, catch up with friends, grab a libation during happy hour, or just pop in for a coffee and a muffin. It may be a little while before I come back to give Alcove another try, but I do believe that it will fully deliver on the second go around. Peace.

The thematic notes throughout the…read morerestaurant are embedded in the details, from the plates to the decor on the wall, the bathroom doors, and some of the menu items too. It's the perfect place to get your buzz on before you get yourself to The Greek. Or simply grab some bites and connect with friends in a casual setting. Personally, I choose to sit at the bar, but there are communal tables and more intimate booths, as well as patio seating with the massively tall, old, and iconic everygreen trees along Los Feliz Blvd. to further set the tone. I've been coming here for years just for the oysters. I'm a glutton for those shucked delicacies and Messhall does it up right for a great price during happy hour. On Tuesdays, they're $1 each and Wednesday Happy Hour prices are $2/oyster. They're always fresh and served with mignotte sauce (shallots + red wine vinaigrette). I like to pair my oysters with a martini so I often opt for the Gin Gimlet ($10) because crazy people love their gin. Or if you can take advantage of their Mini 'Tini ($6), then do so. Again, I go for a Gin Mini 'Tini because well, crazy people love gin. However, Vodka is another option for these adorable mini drinks for lightweights like moi. For the carnivorous souls, the Backyard Burger looks filling enough and there's a Hangar Steak with Frites (aka fries) that looks amazing and you can get that for $20 during Wednesday nights, which isn't bad these days for a solid piece of moo. The "Blackened Shrimp Slider" on the HH Menu isn't bad for $3. So if you're jonesing for a cabin-like vibe with a modern twist, Messhall is a good stomping ground for locals, and bar service is always on point. *** FUN FACT: Speaking of those evergreen trees just out front. They're often confused for pine trees, but they're actually "Cedar Deodora Trees" that were planted in the 1920s. They're like a century old now, which further adds to the charm of this area. Now if only they could share their opinions of Messhall. I bet they'd have a few campfire stories of their own to tell. ***
