Craving some burgers and wanting to try somewhere new, I decided to try Sign. Initially, I walked into the establishment thinking it was going to be another "fast food burger joint" but walked out craving another burger. The ambiance is minimalistic with a few tables along the wall and a long window table for solo eaters. However, the owner/cook are super friendly and accommodating. I ordered the signature and the double burger meal (w/ loaded fries). First off, the loaded fries is one of the best. It doesn't aesthetically look "all that," but it just HITS. The jalapeños and grilled onions balance out the cheese and bacon. As for the signature burger, the crispy cheese was a great complement to the perfectly seasoned patties. The texture of the cheese was just right: a nice balance of almost crispy but also gooey with a small cheese pull. Perfection. I haven't had a good smash burger in OC for a while, so this was a pleasant surprise. The establishment is located within a plaza, so parking can get a bit difficult when busy, but I came in on a Sunday afternoon and there were plenty of spaces available. I will definitely be back. A++!
Sub-par smash burger experience that fell short of hype and expectations. Going into this experience, I had generally high expectations since a lot of my friends recommended it. Upon entering, there is a small storefront for ordering and just a few tables for seating. Seems that this establishment is tailored for to-go. I got the signature + 1 extra patty (3 patties total) and a side of fries. While the ordering was seamless and quick, I didn't receive my order until about 20 minutes later which was disappointing considering this seemed like a fast casual joint. As can be seen from the pictures, the food was rather plain. The burger was super dry, with little sauce inside. Believe me when I say that I was very surprised; I honestly don't think it's hard to mess up a burger but alas, it was not enjoyable. The fries provided were pretty standard in quality but a little lacking in quantity. Overall, I would not recommend this establishment.
The thing about smash burgers that no one tells you is that it's very easy to get wrong. I remember on a visit to Minneapolis Toby and I stopped at this smash burger place that was apparently highly recommended, but when we tried it all the patties were overdone and had the consistency of brittle. You're supposed to caramelize the patty, not char the everliving S out of it. Needless, I would not recommend that place. Sign, however, I will recommend because that was one tasty burger. The edges had the perfect amount of crisp while the middle was still juicy and tender. The condiments were applied in just the right amounts. The cheese too hit the spot with all the ooey-gooey. I won't say it's up there with Nice Guys in terms of satisfaction, but it was a very competent example of how to do smash burgers correctly. The service was quick in both ordering and getting my meal out. The counter jockey was very helpful in getting my refill and answering questions about the menu. The dining area was a bit small and they only had two tops as far as I could see, but it seemed to be okay in terms of business and turnover. I don't think it was suffering for customers. I would have liked more room between tables but that's a small thing, They also hit my pet peeve of serving everything in bags and to-go containers even when eating there. It kind of ruined the dining experience by not having a proper tray and basket set-up. The fries especially looked wrong in a paper pouch instead of arranged around the double burger. But as it is, it's a good place for a burger. Everything turned out wonderful and I hope next time everything is that much closer to perfection.
So good!!! Hot take but this is way better than in n out....sorryyyyy not sorry. The flavor, proportion, the SAUCEEE and amount of options to choose from is just perfect. They have a small but mighty menu. We got the signature burger and the crispy cheese and melted cheese that they do is genius. Sauce is heavenly. Every bite is umami af. Their loaded fries are def a top fave for me too. They have the option to order with self checkout and with the worker. Workers there are friendly and it seems like a small family business because I've seen the same workers on different days now. The only thing I wish they did have is pickled jalapeños! I think that would tie a lot of the flavors together. They don't have public restroom, not really good for large groups, and parking is pretty small. Willl be back!
I was looking for places to eat near my hotel that were open late and found Sign Smash Burger. It is hard to find parking since the lot is very small. The menu is pretty simple and I went with the signature burger and sign loaded fries. Good lord the burger was delicious, and so were the fries. Their shakes look really good, so I'll have to try one of those when I come back to this spot again.
This Smash burger restaurant was everything and more!! the Smashburger's are so yummy and have the best crispy edges, the loaded fries are cheesy spicy and so yummy. The shakes were to die for, I couldn't recommend the food enough. The workers were so nice and accommodating, and it's a really modern look inside. If you have late night munchies or want a post beach burger and fries definitely try this spot!
We took advice to come here for a good burger. They did not disappoint. This is a small establishment with really big flavors. It is a small place but very well light and an open view of the kitchen. The menu at current is not very big but what they do make is very good. We ordered the double smash burger, the single smash burger, and a jalapeño burger to go with loaded fries. All were very tasty with right amount of heat from the spicy jalapeños. We will definitely coming back with decent pricing and staying open until 11 on weeknights as a big plus. Keep up the good work.
Such a trendy place & decently priced . The food was good felt a little rushed tho. And it kind of shows in the food. My single smash burger comes with jalapeño it's was seasoned really good. I do wish the jalapeños were grilled. They were kind of just thrown in the middle of the burger. My loaded fries weren't bad. I like that the topping weren't really heavy. I do wish that the cheese was put first then the topping . Overall good if you're looking for a quick bite.
After seeing positive reviews on Yelp, I decided to try Smashburger on Chapman Ave. Unfortunately, my experience was quite different from my expectations. I ordered their Signature Smash Burger meal, hoping it would showcase what the restaurant is known for. However, the burger did not resemble the menu photos. As shown in the attached pictures, the patties were very thin, overcooked, burnt, and dry. The burger lacked flavor and was far from the satisfying burger Smashburger advertises. The bun was also noticeably crushed and flattened, giving a careless presentation. While appearance isn't everything, it didn't help when the taste was equally disappointing. The overall dining experience was not much better. Only two of us dined in, with no other customers inside. Although several to-go orders were being prepared, our food still took longer than expected. The atmosphere was less enjoyable than I had hoped. Staff members were quite loud in the kitchen, and an employee sat next to our table, speaking loudly on a phone call for an extended period, making it hard to enjoy the meal. I'm sharing this feedback hoping management will address these issues. The meal did not reflect the quality I expect from a restaurant that prides itself on its food. For the price, customers deserve food and service that match the advertised quality.
Didn't expect to walk into Sign Smash Burger and leave thinking about it for days. The smash patty gets that perfect crispy edge, the cheese melts into every corner, and the jalapeños bring just enough heat without overpowering everything. Family run, quality ingredients - this is exactly the kind of spot OC needs more of.
Decided to finally try Sign since it's caught my eye whenever I go to Cali tacos next door. Ordered takeout so I can't really comment on the service but when i went to pick up my order it was giving a very minimalist vibe which is nice. The burger definitely lived up to the hype and the sauce was delicious! Bun, cheese and patty were all so flavorful and tasty. My only complaint was the fries. They were just nothing special. Definitely could use some more salt. I suggest just ordering a burger because the fries aren't really worth it. Overall I'd come again to try some of their shakes and have another burger

After our morning hike we wanted lunch......lol and decided to try this spot recommended by yelp..... yay.... Of course it didn't disappoint..... the place is super tiny, simple, down to the point..... we are hangry :) on today's visit we had the signature smash. No fries this time. OMG.... "Mmmm. That is a tasty burger." With a few Smash Burger joints spaced out around the OC, Sign Smash Burger, opening a couple of months ago, fills a spot on a busy stretch of Chapman Avenue. If you're in the area, give Sign a try. The menu is simple, with a few options of smash burgers with some customizable ingredients and add-ons. For my first burger here, I enjoyed the Signature Smash--a double-patty burger topped with jalapeño, grilled smashed onions, Sign sauce, and crispy, melted cheese. The beef patties had the nice crispy edges, were seasoned just right, and were not overly salty. The Hawaiian buns and house sauce added a hint of sweetness to every bite. The burger size is on the smaller side, as with most smash burgers, compared to a regular burger. You may want to get multiple patties to fill you up. The prices are fairly competitive compared to other places. The fries were average, but perfectly fried, hot, and crispy. I'll have to give the loaded fries a try next time. Shakes, fountain drinks, and bottled water are available. Request refills on fountain drinks through the staff, as the dispensers are located behind the counter. The staff was friendly and worked hard through a busy lunch crowd. The dining area is clean and medium-sized, with a few tables and no outdoor seating. I didn't see a bathroom. The parking lot is small, but there are plenty of parking spaces across the street if needed. read more
Sign Smash Burger is a HALAL smash burger spot in Orange in a non-descript strip mall. The interior is extremely clean and minimalist with a white interior and a few tables inside as well as a communal counter table. The menu offerings were limited to smash burgers, soft drinks, and fries (which looked a little basic). Triple Burger ($12.50) - This consisted of 3 smashed patties (probably 2.5 oz each), American cheese, smash sauce, pickles, and grilled onions. Taste wise the burger wasn't bad, and I definitely had to get a triple to fill me up. My co-worker got a double ($9.50) and was feeling hungry afterwards. I'm not a fan of American cheese, it's tasteless, I wish they had other cheese options. Overall I did appreciate that the burgers here are HALAL (I confirmed with staff), but they didn't have much in the way of additional offerings, sadly. I saw that they were supposed to have a Dubai shake but so far they don't offer it. Hopefully they can offer more items in the near future. read more

Came here after seeing all the hype on instagram and had to see what this place was all about! I really enjoyed their beef patties which were super tender, love that they use hawaiian buns bc it adds some sweetness to it. We also ordered the fries, which I loved as well. The jalapeños paired really well with it. And the sauce on top was chefs kiss. Definitely recommend trying it out. read more

Sign is serving up the crispiest smash burgers in OC! The crispy patty with the soft bun were the best duo. My favorite was the classic single, it's the perfect size for lunch/dinner. The milkshake was creamy and not too heavy, just the right size. The fries were so crispy and fluffy, come try it out for lunch or dinner! I just want to start off by talking about the loaded fries! 10x better than some animal style fries service was great, everyone was nice and friendly, theres lots of seating inside! they even provide gloves if you wanna get messy haha. We went to Sign Smash Burger for the 2nd time today. Though I am only here for a brief trip, this burger place is worth visiting even on a short trip. Today at the cashier counter, who was taking our order, even I said to her We are new here) was a little impatient while taking our orders, knowing we have five and 7-year-olds with us. As soon as we said something, she kept saying. Anything else, anything else. At one point, I told her, "plz don't rush our order." I am glad I was looking at the receipt and noticed that an extra burger meal was added to our order. She was not in a good mood. We went around 3:30pm, and only one customer was eating inside. In October, when we went for the first time, it was a Friday night at rush hour. We were 12 people, but the guy patiently took everyone's order. It's essential to mention these things, so each person represents their workplace. The food was delicious, and between 4 people (2 youngsters), it almost cost $90, including tip. The ambiance is effortless and casual. Whether you eat there or take it to go, they will pack your food in white bags. Rest is a self-serve routine. You can clean your table if you like. I'm done. It's done! The search for the best smash burger joint to hit up in OC is done. Sign, wow. Way to hit me out of left field in all the best ways. This place is unassuming. Tiny spot, fountain drink machine that wasn't working that evening, cookies all sold out before dinner time, really all the "signs" of a new business. And you know what? I respect the hustle, because boy, at the end of the day, it's the smash burger that should blow you away. And I was blown away. Love my boys out at Hammer Burger, and they truly took the #1 spot for best smash burger to hit up next to Green Cheek... that was until Sign came to town. What a threat dude. Truly, I mean it, do yourself a favor and get the Signature Smash. The jalapeño kick on that SLAPS! Doing it different fam, unlike any of the other smash burger joints. And I've even gone around LA. Fries was McDonald's style, so you know that's already prime. Bless up! Cali Tacos, make way. You've got competition. We heard the hype. Decided to see what the hype was about. Located in a tiny strip mall. Parking can be a challenge. Small place, maybe seating for 15 people or so. Anyway, very limited menu, which is fine. Joints that have limited offerings will often knock it out of the park on those items. But, sometimes it just means having a small menu. It's smashburgers, fries, and shakes here. Got the double smashburger w/fries and a coke zero. Wifey same, but no fries. $33. It was ok. The coke zero was exquisite. And you get free refills. Tried their Signature Smash burger (SSB) today after seeing it on Instagram. Usually, I'm skeptical about Insta hype, but this place delivered a solid burger. I got the Signature Smash with jalapeños on the side, and it was a good, flavorful burger--well blended, just right. The cheese had a nice crisp, and the ingredients were fresh. I'd give it a solid 4 stars. The vibe is pretty basic--white walls, simple décor--like a no-frills diner. One downside: they were out of chocolate chip cookies, which was a bummer because I'm a big chocolate chip cookie fan. I just ate here earlier today but writing my review right now, I'm craving it again. It was THAT good. My spouse and I ordered two signature smash, loaded fries and regular fries. The cheese skirt on the signature smash was perfection. The fries (both of them) had just the right amount of crisp and thickness. The jalapeno on the loaded fries had a good kick to it. I have been looking forward to trying this new place out! It's a cozy hidden gem that is clean and well-maintained. The staff is very friendly and efficient. We got a single burger and an order of fries. I wanted to try their milkshake but they were unfortunately unavailable. Smash Burger- Now this is a legit smash burger! The patty is nice and thin but remained juicy. The cheese melted perfectly into the meat. The bun was soft with a slight crisp from being toasted. Their signature sauce is delicious! Fries- Served fresh from the fryer. It was cooked with a lovely exterior crisp and complemented the burger perfectly. I would definitely come back! read more

Burger patty was dry and paper thin. You literally cannot taste the beef. Grilled onions were also non existent. I should have weighed the patty. My guess would have been 1-1.5oz. Very dissatisfied. Fries were mediocre at best. read more

I been searching far and wide for a local smash burger spot close to my place that I can be a regular at. I finally found it at Sign Smash Burger. I found this place on Yelp today and I was surprised that I never heard of it. Well it turns out that's because they just opened a few weeks ago according to the sweet girl who was working the cash register, and they're still technically in the soft opening phase. Their menu is very simple just like In-N-Out which is a good sign that their product is probably good because instead of making a ton of different items, they're specializing in a couple things and that's it. Let's cut to the chase. I got the Signature Smash with a side of French fries, no drink. Costed about $15. Didn't take that long for it come out. The fries were nice and crunchy and the burger itself was amazing. Probably the best smash burger I've ever had. Looking forward to coming back and trying their loaded fries and their soft serve ice cream. Will upload another update as soon as that happens! read more

Here's a sign they should post "WE DON'T PROViDE RESTROOM FOR OUR DINING GUEST HOWEVER NEXT DOOR AT CALI TACO YOU CAN USE THEIR RESTROOM IF YOU DINE THERE". So so disappointing and don't care if their burgers are good. This is bad service to suggest if we want to use a restroom and willing to also eat Cali Taco our bathroom problem is solved. We walked out and drove down Chapman to Nexx Burger where the burgers are great and dine-in comfort is enjoyable and clean. read more

Everything about this experience was great Most of the places in the same complex are empty right now so that made the parking situation easier lol The service was great and quick enough Nice place available to sit or take your meal to go I loved everything - the patty, the cheese, the sauce, onions I actually preferred the regular fries to the loaded ones Really solid fries! Found this spot randomly late at night and decided to give it a shot -- so glad we did! We came in around 10 PM and everything hit the spot. I love that they're open late. The inside was kinda small, not a lot of tables but we were able to get a spot. The burgers were solid, the fries were really good, and the service was quick and friendly. We tried both the sign sauce and the smash sauce -- both were tasty. Definitely adding this to the late-night food rotation! read more
