If your out of something let me know before you seat me especially when it's lunch time and give me the "lunch special" but you don't have any appetizer for the "lunch special" make it make sense. Prior to this I've only had Silverlake Ramen to go, but it's just not the same as eating it at the restaurant. He ordered the garlic based broth with chicken and I got a spicy bowl with tofu. Both were perfection. I could not finish mine but my fiancé finished every last sip of his. Service was just okay. The host was also our server so it was a little bit on the slower side. The restaurant was packed and we opted to sit outside, but they did have heat lamps that helped a ton. I'd give 5 stars but they were out of almost every appetizer on the menu. I ordered my food was asked if it's dine in, I said yes, sat, waited, got my food in a to go bag. I mentioned I wanted to dine in and was told, they were closing. I looked around, the place was still full of families still eating and they didn't close for another 40 min, It was just me I would have finished before everyone else. A top notch ramen place, Silverlake Ramen serves large portions for an affordable price. My Spicy Tuna Poke Bowl - $7.50 for a regular - was only $11.50 for a large, which is a fantastic deal in itself. Their sushi is also pretty large and deceivingly so compared to the photos I found online. Their pick up system is well run, and they follow proper health guidelines like distancing and PPE. Silverlake Ramen has always been on my bucket list of ramen spots to try out for the longest time, amongst various other restaurants, and the primary location in, well, Silverlake, was just too out of my way being that it was situated on Sunset Blvd. Don't get me wrong, it's close enough of a drive but the parking situation anywhere on Sunset Blvd from Echo Park area leading up to the Silverlake area was the primary reason that I haven't bothered to make the trip. Now that they are expanding and have opened up new branch locations, I figured whatever business model that they had going on in the primary location must have worked out so well that they can now afford to use the same business model and recipes to expand to other locations. In any case, this particular location is located a little bit south of the Round 1 Lakewood / Lakewood Mall. It's situated in a plaza where there are other restaurants in the same plaza and is directly across an ice cream parlour that is apparently very popular to the locals in this side of town. And since this is located in a plaza where other restaurants and businesses live, parking is very easy to find, at least at night time when I had came in late August 2023 around 7PM. Price-wise, it's pretty up there. The prices that they charged were the old 'Little Tokyo' prices from a few years back for the area like probably around pre-COVID and pre-inflation. By that, I mean the prices hovered beween $15-$20 per bowl of ramen. Appetizers were between $7-$10. I ended up with the Classic Ramen and Chicken Karaage and my friend ended up getting the Shoyu on Fire Ramen, Fried Gyoza, and Pork Bun. If you've ever had Tonkotsu Ramen (Creamy Pork Ramen) at any Japanese restaurant, you've pretty much had this ramen here at Silverlake Ramen--the main difference being that the ingredients are slightly different and the soup's texture is also slightly different. The ramen comes out in a mid-sized bowl with a moderate amount of ramen noodles, veggies, meat, and soft-boiled egg. To me, because I'm a big eater, this is more like a snack size but to the average person, I think the amount would be pretty normal. As a point of reference, I'm comparing this restaurant to Daikokuya in Little Tokyo which is still king in my books when it comes to Tonkotsu Ramen. In terms of creaminess, it's a bit more on the 'watery' side. It's not that thick. Definitely drinkable with a spoon or from the side of the bowl. That, in and of itself, isn't a bad thing. The ramen had good elasticity, not too soggy, not too hard. The toppings like the spinach, bean sprouts, seaweed, pork and egg tasted alright. Tasty enough for what it is, though perhaps because we came in when it was so close to closing time, the ingredients just felt a little bit towards the end of their 'freshness' scale. No particular ingredient stuck out to me as particularly worth mentioning. And now that I think about it, this place kind of reminds me of the now defunct San Sui Tei that was in Little Tokyo. That restaurant was kind of like a jack-of-all-trades type of Japanese restaurant with ramen as the primary focus. The chicken karaage is pretty hard to mess up--and it tasted as it should. The restaurant itself is kind of small. Maybe it could seat about at maximum 30 people at any given time. There were 3 booth-style seats to the left of the entrance and I think 3 more booth-style seats to the right of it as well. Then there are the regular wooden tabletops with hard seats in the middle area from the entrance. It's kind of a cramp space, the more I try to remember the layout of this particular location. We sat in one of the booths to the left of the entrance. I don't recall you having to wait to get seated. We just went in and got our seats since it was pretty empty to start with. Service was fine. Fast, friendly, and attentive. No complaints here. Ambiance. There was music playing in the background and there was a couple of TV's tuned into sports situated on each side plus the kitchen area. To me, this felt more like a quick-bite-and-go type of restaurant even though it was technically a sit-down restaurant where you talk to a server to order your food and it gets served to you by said server as well. All in all, I like it enough that if I happen to be in this part of town again (or a part of town where there's another location just like this one) that I would stop by again when I want a certain level of consistency for my ramen, which this place passes with flying colors. read more
