Spicy Tuna Poke Rice Bowl
Gyzell G.

We went on a friday evening but we were seated right away. Our servers were accommodating and polite. We ordered the Tonkotsu ramen with shrimp tempura, Thai spicy hot wing and the Spicy tuna poke rice bowl. The spicy wing was the best choice among the 3. The flavor is very well balanced and it's not too spicy. You can taste the tanginess of the Thai chili sauce with a hint of sweetness. The Tonkotsu ramen has a mild flavor for me compared to other ramen I have tasted, but still pretty decent. The spicy tuna poke bowl has a medium spiciness for me but overall everything was good. The parking will be either street parking or in the paid parking structure beside it.

New Ramen stop for me and my husband! Best Tonkatsu I have ever tried! The Spicy edamame hit the spot! We also got a sushi roll called 805, so delicious!!

The atmosphere was cool, not divey, but divey adjacent. Walkable form our hotel, and several others. The service was fast, and the ramen was delicious. It will be a spot we visit next time in Long Beach.

My favorite bowl pork belly, ground pork, egg, bean sprouts

The food was really good. I especially loved the build your own ramen concept because it felt worth it. I only paid for the toppings and ingredients I actually wanted to eat. The atmosphere was warm, modern, and welcoming, making it a great place to relax with friends or family. The staff were friendly and attentive, and everything was served fresh. I'll definitely be coming back.

Ramen was sooo good, really hit the spot definitely recommend! The tofutons were SOOO good!!! Please get them, the spicy chili on the side was amazing.

Man i been coming here for YEARS. And i will never stop. I love this place!!!!! the inside is so cozy. I love how u can replace the ramen with udon. And the service is ALWAYS spectacular.

Amazing cute little spot in Long Beach! Visiting from Vegas-- we wanted some ramen and this place did not disappoint! We both got the Gu Ramen with chasu pork (mild for me, spicy for him). The broth was excellent and very filling! Lots of searing, great service,.. 10/10 recommend! :)

Hate it when decent food is ruined by discourteous service. Gu Ramen is one of the first restaurants my wife and I went to, after we moved to Long Beach 4 years ago. It's within walking distance, so was a bit surprised that I hadn't visited in over 3 years. My long cruise had gotten me a craving for good ramen, so decided to walk over for an early lunch. I got there about 10 minutes after it opened at 11, and was the first customer. There were two ladies working the front, and one of them greeted me immediately. I put up an index finger with a smile to show it would just be me, and was seated near the back close to the kitchen. I got a menu immediately and was asked what I wanted to drink. I told her water which came quickly. That's when it started turned janky. The server was having a rather loud conversation with the other server in a language I didn't understand. She finally came back after the other lady walked away (to work I'm assuming), to take my order. I stated what I wanted, and without any response, she just went away...wasn't sure if she got it right (but she had). About 10 minutes later, the fried rice dish came. She just put it in front of me without a word, ignored my 'thank you', and walked off. The ramen came a bit later, and same action. She did fill my empty water glass once without me asking, so I guess she was paying attention. Note I was still the only customer. The same attitude with the bill providing and credit card swiping; by this time I stopped trying to interact too. This is the time when I WANT to either just ask "What's your problem?" or more passive aggressively "Did I offend you in some way?" Decided it wasn't worth it, paid my bill, still giving a small(er) tip, and was on my way. Did notice that she was talking normally to a new customer as he was being seated. As for the food, both dishes were decent to great: the fried rice ($7.99 as addon to ramen) was great...very generous portion, cooked over very high heat to produce a delicious veggie fried rice. The tonkotsu ramen ($13.99) with added corn ($1.99) and narutomaki ($2.99) was decent (OK). Plenty of ramen noodle (so didn't need to order extra) topped with a two thick slices of well-prepared Chashu. The broth was OK too, but did give me stomach problems later (still haven't figured out what ingredient(s) cause this...but have decided that ramen and pho are worth it for me).

I had a great experience at Gu Ramen! The food was absolutely delicious rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Every bite was satisfying. The environment was clean, welcoming, and comfortable, making it a great place to enjoy a meal whether you're dining solo or with friends. The overall vibe was relaxed, and the service was excellent. Everything from the food to the atmosphere was on point. I would definitely recommend this place and will be coming back again!

Good food and service. I really like how attentive the waiters were. The food was hot and ready.

My favorite ramen spot \(^.^)/ spicy ramen, ademame, fried rice Sapporo and good dessert.

Ask the Community - Gu Ramen Taps & Tapas

Do they have gluten-free ramen?

I don't remember

Do They have dog friendly seating outside?

There was no outside seating when we went earlier this year.

Do you have a vegan/veggie broth option?

Indeed, they do! The Udon Tofu is the white, thicker wheat noodle, which is vegan. Contrary, the Ramen Tofu is the standard yellow, egg noodle that is vegetarian. Both of these options are served with a shoyu (mushroom) broth! If you're a fan of…

Is the broth made from scratch = bone broth for 24 hours OR is it a powder broth?

Gu broth is not made from powder. we use chicken and pork raw bone (femur bone) to make the broth, we simmering for more than 12hour to get a rich and creamy flavor.

I felt welcomed by the cool tones of the interior design and layout actually. We waited by the door as a party of two. Not too long after we entered were we greeted by the hosted and seated outdoors, as we requested. Even though it is on fourth street which has plenty of street traffic, it was still a quiet, comfortable dining experience. Every thing on the menu looked and sounded amazing but I planned to try the ramen because I've been craving a good bowl of ramen for a while. I landed on the shoyu ramen with tofu. I really enjoyed the taste of the broth. The flavor and seasoning was soul-healing. I don't usually go with plain chicken broth in ramen but I felt confident in my choice. I was literally happy dancing with each bite. The ramen was so good! My partner went with a spicy order of tonkotsu ramen with chicken, garlic, and black oil sauce. I tried parts of it and it was also delicious! I wanted to try the sushi but did not have that big of an appetite for both sushi and ramen so I opted for the salmon poke tacos. They tasted very savory and the salmon was flavored really well. The temperature and consistency was not too overwhelming for the tacos shell. The service was attentive and not too invasive. We took the check to the counter to pay. I am excited for our next trip here. It is dangerously walking distance for us! PS they have a sign that says they are hiring a dishwasher for Saturday and Sunday!

The gyoza wasn't bad overall, but the wrappers were a little too thick, the dipping sauce was forgettable, and it tasted like it may have been frozen. The spicy tonkotsu was pretty good. The spice level worked well, there was a slight hint of miso in the broth, and it was served at the right temperature. The pork belly was a little tough though. The portion reflects the price point. The place has a slightly unusual layout where the staff may not notice you immediately, but once they do, service is fast and friendly. The setup is also perfect if you enjoy sitting by the window and watching the street while you eat. Overall, Jounetsu Ramen doesn't disappoint, but compared to LA's heavy hitters, the ramen still has ways to go.

But I had heard so many great things about HiroNori that I wanted to try it anyways. My brother especially kept hyping them up, and he LOVES ramen. And I'm glad I decided to try them out! While HiroNori is a SoCal chain, it still feels like a mom and pop restaurant. The crispy rice with tuna was EXCELLENT! Everything you want from crispy rice and spicy tuna. The tonkatsu was delicious! Great depth of flavor. They bring you garlic and spicy paste on the side. I had to add A LOT of spicy paste to get it up to the level I wanted, but while at other restaurants I've lost the broth flavor when adding too much spice, the spicy paste just enhanced the tonkatsu broth. And the pork in the tonkatsu - truly next level. This is probably the best pork I've ever had in a ramen dish. The noodles were also fantastic with the perfect amount of bite. I loved my jammy egg as well. The restaurant itself is smaller, with fun lighting. There is a parking lot which is great. They do not have tipping, instead they have a service charge of a little over 17%. Definitely worth it!

I'm a sukiyaki broth lover, so it's somewhat similar to that taste profile. I like how they also provide garlic and house spicy sauce as it just makes the ramen even better and seals the deal. They also provide watermelon infused water, which was perfect for a warm day out. Although this restaurant is quite small, service was fast and very accommodating. I have been here several times and service plus quality of the food never changes! Seats here don't have any back support but it adds to the modern aesthetic and vibe of the restaurant. A server informed me which banchan was vegan and which was not. We got the vegan dumplings and that was very tasty! A server helped us cook the meats and he was so kind. He dished out our meats on to our plates when it was ready. We loved the vegan garlic shrimp and the fact they were tailless. I wish we could've bought the vegan meats and/or banchan to take home and grill. I finished off my little bowl of white rice with the sides and savory meats. Parking is a bit of a game of chance thanks to the tiny lot, so plan accordingly. Once you're inside though, the restaurant is super clean, modern, and the service is fast and attentive. We started with the papaya salad. It was just okay--I'm still trying to figure out why there was a blanket of romaine lettuce casually lounging on top. I ordered medium spice, which turned out to be "medium if you breathe fire for fun." The papaya was also a little more raw than I personally like. The tom kha soup was decent, but the real MVP was the drunken noodles with beef. Those noodles were absolutely swimming in savory goodness and perfectly soft. I would've happily ordered a second plate and called it "dessert." Overall, I'd definitely come back--mostly because those drunken noodles are already living rent-free in my head.

My family and I were heading to the Aquarium of the Pacific and wanted to find a good dinner spot…read morenearby afterward. I came across this place on TikTok because of their famous Thai tea popsicle, so naturally I had high hopes. First off, we got incredibly lucky with parking. I can definitely see how parking could be a nightmare since the lot is tiny, so consider finding a spot part of the dining experience. When we arrived, the inside was cute and seemed clean. We were seated outside, which also looked nice at first glance, but I noticed quite a few spider webs around the windows. My boyfriend even felt webs brushing against his arm while we were sitting there, which wasn't exactly the extra ambiance we were expecting. We ordered quite a bit: spicy Pad Thai, Bang Bang Shrimp, Pad See Ew, mango sticky rice, and of course the Thai tea with the popsicle. I'll give credit where it's due. The Bang Bang Shrimp was easily the best thing we ordered and was absolutely delicious. The Thai tea popsicle also lived up to the TikTok hype, although the actual Thai tea itself was on the sweeter side. If you love sugar, you'll probably enjoy it. My biggest complaint with the food was the spicy Pad Thai. The flavor was great, but it came with what felt like a whole chicken farm and a cameo appearance from the noodles. I ordered Pad Thai, not chicken with noodle garnish. The Pad See Ew was also noticeably salty. Now you're probably wondering why I'm giving this place a low rating if most of the food was decent. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the meal. When it was time to pay, my aunt was figuring out how much everyone needed to Zelle her since the restaurant only allows a maximum of two cards for split payments. While we were trying to do the math, our waiter stood over us watching the payment screen like he was supervising a final exam. He was clearly waiting to make sure a tip was entered. My aunt politely asked him to give us a minute, and thankfully he walked away. Maybe when you see a family actively calculating a bill, that's your cue to...actually give them a minute. Keep in mind we also tipped 20% despite all this. Throughout the meal, he did stop by our table, but it rarely felt like he was checking in to make sure everything was okay. If anything I felt rushed. He also gave off that "customer service smile" that disappears the moment you stop looking. The cherry on top for me happened as we were leaving. We had been sitting on the outdoor patio talking for a bit after paying, which is pretty normal for my family. Before leaving, I went inside to ask where the restroom was. The guy and girl behind the bar looked at each other, laughed, and then asked if I was a paying customer. Keep in mind, I was literally holding a to-go bag with leftovers from the restaurant. I responded, "Yeah, I just finished eating," while holding up the bag that made it painfully obvious. Only then did they tell me where the restroom was. Nothing says "valued customer" quite like being interrogated about whether you actually ate there while carrying your leftovers. It's unfortunate because the food had some highlights, and the restaurant itself has a cute atmosphere. But the service made it feel like customers are viewed more as transactions than guests. Between hovering over us during payment and questioning whether I even belonged there after spending money, I left feeling more unwelcomed than satisfied. I'll happily support a restaurant that appreciates my business instead of making me feel like I have to prove I earned the right to use the restroom after paying for dinner.
