It's so hard to give Simply Thai two stars after such a pleasant experience. The service and the folks working here were wonderful, friendly and super fast. Unfortunately, it couldn't save the meal. The "fresh" spring rolls were nearly inedible. I thought these would be similar to a Vietnamese summer roll (very thin rice paper with lettuce, noodle, carrot, tofu and chicken). Instead, they roll the ingredient in a thick wrapper multiple times. It had no seasoning and the thick wrapper made it painfully dry (even drenched in plum dipping sauce). I love basil duck...to an obsessive degree. This is not a very good version: under seasoned, oily, nearly no basil flavor. This place was pretty good. I ordered their Basil Fried Rice, Thai Iced Tea, and Coconut Calamari. Both my husband and I enjoyed the calamari a lot. The basil fried rice was alright. It was a little on salty side but still satisfying. I have tried thai iced tea from many restaurants. Some make it too bitter for my taste. For me I like it a little more on the creamy side. Very clean and small, this is take out or delivery only! The owner is very nice and seems to have a lot of regulars! My food was ready in a flash I just barley had sat down crazy! The dumplings were just OK that's the only reason this place lost a star! Do not order from here. The food is good, I'll give you that, but the customer service is awful. The guy that answers the phone seems all nice until there's a problem and then he's awful. The thing is that there are lots of problems. I've been given the wrong food before and that was an order through them directly. Worse of all, if you order through Grubhub/Seamless they are so rude about your orders. The same guy that answers the phone is the delivery driver and he was so incredibly rude. Not a big fan of this place. I've been there handful times since opening and tried many different food here. I love Thai food, I love noodles, but this place didn't have any great tasting noodles. Lots of blend taste or salty, spicy ones not spicy enough and sweet ones aren't sweet enough. Probably won't visit here any more (actually haven't been here almost 5 months...) unless i hear some dramatic differences. I'm surprised this place have good reviews here. read more

There are some pros and cons about this particular restaurant. Pro- Is that the food is GREAT! Con- is the price and quantity that you get. Also, 9/10 times your order will be incorrect. Yum yum! I came here for some lunch and walked into a pleasant little oasis of Thai food. The restaurant has no tables, just a seating area for waiting so of course you gotta get it to go but that's ok. Loved the atmosphere of greenery and freshness. I ordered the Pad Woon Sen and it was so yummy! The tofu was soft and not bland. The noodles were so delicious I didn't really need anything else in the dish, but of course it came with a variety of veggies (carrots, onions, mushrooms, asparagus, broccoli) that made it even better. This is our go-to place for carry out Thai food. Crab Rangoon, Pad See Ew and Pad Thai are our staple items. I've been ordering from them for years, and it never fails. They are not that cheap, but the quality of food makes up for the higher prices. This is only a carry out or delivery place. I end up here about once a week. Take out only, as there is no seating other than for waiting. Orders are made quickly so you hardly mind waiting. Owner is friendly and takes great concern to get dishes just right with consistency. Only complaint I have is that the Beef Pad Se-ew is so good that I have a hard time trying anything else on the menu! They'll even adjust the spicyness to your tastes using a 1-5 star system. I would like to give negative rating if possible. It was a very very very bad experience. Suggestion would be to be professional, provide clean food and environment and behave with customers. Went with few friends for lunch. Water cups provided were used and still had water droplets in it. The management confirmed that they reuse the disposable cups and the reason given was that it's plastic and plastic is reusable. Management was very very rude. Also the drinking water provided was dirty (had tiny white particles floating). When we asked about it, they mentioned that it's the water from the tap and they were not guilty about providing that and didn't even care to apologize. Again when we showed and questioned them, they tried to cover up by saying that they would squeeze lemon in the water. Our concern was if the drinking water is contaminated and we could see it, what kind of water would they use for cooking. Also not sure if they will recycle the plastic carry out boxes too. We are a frequent customer and this totally devastated us Bottomline, Management was very very rude. They use REUSED disposable cups. Water they use is dirty. I am not going back again. read more

They delivered 2 hours after order placed. We called a total of 3 times. First time the man was abrasive and said not to worry but did not even look at my specific order. Called 30 min later and a lady told us the driver is out already. Then they called back 20 min later to say that they screwed up and that it will be another 20 min. I really like this place. I should say love because I ordered from here multiple times a week when I was pregnant. The tempura is phenomenal, the ginger and garlic chicken are both amazing, and my husband really likes the pad Thai. The only thing I wouldn't order again is the curry, as it didn't have very deep flavor and wasn't spicy enough for me. They are really friendly and fast. I made the mistake of ordering online. The process was actually pretty easy but the restaurant doesn't quite know how to integrate the orders into it's workflow. When I showed up to pick up my food and provided my name the owner was kind of a jerk. After asking me multiple times if I ordered online, he finally located my order. He then asked me to wait for a few minutes. My food was ready in 5 minutes and it was horrible. Everything appeared to be precooked and dry/sticky. Even the spring rolls were prepared ahead of time and they reminded me of something I would get at a convenient store. We will not be ordering from here ever again. read more

3 stars: Good for delivery, decent Thai food. For Girls Night In on Memorial Day, we wanted to order delivery and Simply Thai was the 4th place we tried calling, all the other places were closed. I'm glad that was the case, otherwise I wouldn't have tried this place. We ordered a couple noodle dishes, a curry, and a duck dish - all were pretty good, I had no complaints. The delivery charge was reasonable, $4 since I was on the outskirts, and the price for entrees average around $10-11. I'd order from Simply Thai again, especially since delivery for non-pizza foods is harder to come by in the suburbs. read more

Check your orders before you pickup. Messed up orders multiple times, this place is notorious for that. Even if they repeat order back you, no guarantee you will get what you order. My favorite Thai food in Northbrook. I have ordered 4 times in the past 2 weeks. I normally get the papaya salad, beef salad and/or soup. The spice level is 1-5. I normally get 3/4, be forewarned 5 is spicy! Simple menu so the selection does not overwhelm. Always busy, but only because the food is so yummy! Have not had one bad experience. The owner is very nice and super friendly. It's a place for pick-up or delivery. There a waiting area but no place for eat in. So if your in the mood for some great food definitely check it out when you're near by! read more

Just moved to Northbrook from the city and I've been skeptical about the take out food around the suburbs. I am very impressed with Simply Thai! The food tastes better than the city Thai places!!! Really good takeout/delivery. The food is always good and very fresh. They have the standard "american thai," but also many other unique dishes that should be tried. I had something called the salmon Choo-Chee recently and it was delicious. Ideally they would have a sit down restaurant, but for now only takeout and delivery. read more

Polar vortex, day... 1 million. We needed food delivered. We decided on Simply Thai. I did feel really bad about asking them to deliver in the snow conditions, but they were very nice on the phone and didn't flinch when I asked to place an order. The guy who came to our door was so nice and sweet. I thanked him a million times for delivering food to us in the snow storm. He was genuinely nice. (I did tip generously and he seemed very appreciative). Delivery service - easy, nice, and QUICK! Food came in about 30 minutes. The food... The crab talay so delicious. Creamy, fresh, just crispy enough. Like a mini compact crab-rangoon, but better! Chicken Pad Se-Ew -- perfect. Beef Red Curry -- so flavorful. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. For those who eat Thai in the NW burbs, I would say that this is 'I Am Siam' quality but Alt Thai portions and prices. Basically, it mediocre food with small and expensive portions. Food was bland. We requested brown rice and they added an additional $2.00 for it. When we received the rive it was multi-grain, not brown rice. The rice was hard and old and clumped up like rocks. I called to complain and they contended that the rice was "fine, good and tasty", but said that I could bring my rice back to them and they would replace it with more instant multi-grain rice if I'd like.
