JDO was one of my favorite restaurants, for years I would tell everyone who was visiting uptown that JDO needed to be where they grabbed food. It was always so fresh and flavorful. I hadn't stopped in for about 16 months due to a schedule change at work that kept me away, I finally got back on a normal schedule and couldn't wait to stop in. I decided to take a few plates to my coworkers and when I sat down and opened my togo plate I could see instantly that it had gone down hill in quality. The rice was flavorless and dried out, the beef shwarma had the texture of leather and the chicken shwarma was just inedible, It was gray in color and didn't look fit for human consumption. I'm so sad writing this. I truly loved JDO, I don't know what happened here, if there was a cook that left or if they changed owners, but the food they are serving now is just plain bad. 1/10 stars read more

I don't know what happened, but the is is the 2nd time I have received food from JDO and it's not like it used to be. I had to spit out a piece of chicken because it was raw. Their hummus is all tahini and no other flavor. The potato salad now has olives? The pilaf was diff, lack of flavor, different rice. Second trip back and kids wanted some too, so we tied a little of everything. Three skewer combo with lamb this time, beef kebab plate because it was so good last time, chicken shawarma plate and falafel plate. For the sides, we tried Reg and spicy hummus, pickled vegetables, Mediterranean salad and potato salad. They offered us a double side of potato and hummus on a few of the plates, so the amount of food left over was quite a bit considering five of were sharing four plates. Anyway, food was still amazing and chicken kebab was not dry this time so as promised pushed rating to five stars. No complaints at all and with free extra sides, over the top food and service. ------- Great having really good Mediterranean food close to home. The food was delish and service top notch. I love Mediterranean food and know enough to call ahead, which I did. This was my first time here so I ordered the 3 skewer combo, with beef kabob, chicken and the ground beef. The beef was amazing. Great flavors and tender. Also a lot more meat than I expected. The ground beef was spicy and delish and a nice change of pace. The chicken was a little dry this time around, but flavors were spot on. For the sides, I tried the spicy hummus, which had great flavors and loved having a spicy version. I also had the Mediterranean salad, which is basically a cucumber salad with some red onion and light citrus dressing. I enjoyed it very much as well. I loved that they offer an option for beef or lamb kebab on their combos and plan to try the lamb next time. Why many places don't let you substitute is amazing, when it's such a great way to please customers like me. They also proactively ask if I wanted hot sauce with my order, which I did. Again, why do so many places leave it up to the customer? Another stand out was the garlic sauce. I usually don't touch the stuff, because it's too strong and oily. I put it on everything! It was especially tasty on the rice, although the rice alone was tasty enough, the garlic sauce kicked it up another notch. Pita bread was nothing to write home about and likely store bought, but appreciated that it tasted relatively fresh and soft. Going to try them again and hope the chicken isn't as dry next time and may kick up the score to five stars. read more

This used to be my go to place for Mediterranean food but sadly no longer. Not only did the prices went up which I wouldn't mind but the quality and quantity is not what it used to be. This place is my absolute favorite! My favorite place to eat in uptown and I live 1 minute away! They food is always fresh and always taste amazing, taste authentic and always make me dance while eating lol no seriously! The garlic spread is and the hummus is even better. If I could eat here everyday I would... the chicken is my favorite but don't count everything else out. I use to love this place and tonight was my first time back in about 6 months or so. I placed an online order for pick up. I didn't want to come on here and leave a bad review because I thought we'll maybe I just caught them on an off night but after seeing many peoples reviews with similar experiences I felt obligated to warn people. I spent $28.07 on a chicken kabob plate, extra side of tabouleh salad, and sides of the garlic sauce. The chicken was burnt, the rice was old and mush like, the tabouleh salad was wilted and old. the garlic sides barely had anything in the container and I paid .75 each. Also the cucumber salad was terrible, I thought it would be similar to a tzatziki sauce that was server here before but it was watery and lacked flavor It is expensive for one person but the price wouldn't have been an issue for me if the food was quality and fresh. It was completely unappetizing, I didn't bother to finish it. Hopefully the new owners take these reviews into consideration and make some changes before they drive all their business away. I'm torn between giving a 3 or a 4 but I'll round up and give this place a 4. In the age of COVID, they offer different ways to order. You could order in person or online. Unfortunately, I ordered in person which meant a 35 minute wait from the time I placed my order till I received it. I ordered the chicken shawarma with cucumber yogurt and spicy hummus. The total came out to be around $12 which was very reasonable for the amount of food that they gave. I took a few bites before I took the picture but you could definitely see the volume of food they give! So as for value... I would give this place 5/5 stars. When I came in on a Saturday evening around 6:00 pm, there were a few people scattered inside the building waiting for their food. No one was in line to order so I placed my order. The cashier did warn me that it would take 35 minutes. I already went out of my way to get here so I figured why not? Sure, I'll wait. The interesting thing was that they had no less than 5 employees manning their station and fulfilling orders, so I didn't think it would actually take as long as the quoted time. I guess I was wrong in that. Even though they had a good amount of employees working hard, maybe the efficiency was lacking? Something must be off because at the pace that they were working at with all of them scrambling to get things done, I would have imagined that they could have done a better job at cranking out orders. Or maybe they could better prioritize the in person orders so that it doesn't combine with the online orders to better satisfy the customers already there waiting? I'm sure I'm not the only one that shares this sentiment as all the other customers around me looked perturbed at how long the wait was. The 35 minute wait that was quoted was actually pretty accurate. I got my meal at about 6:40 and was excited to dig in outside. They do have tables outside which is nice. My first few bites were amazing! The chicken was nice and flavorful. The hummus was great and had a mild kick to it being that I got the spicy one. The cucumber yogurt was tasty as well. Ok so what's the catch? Where's the "but" in all of this? The food was very salty. Very. Salty. The initial bites were great and flavorful but then I felt like it was overwhelmingly salty. I didn't want to waste the food so I ate all the chicken and rice but I couldn't finish the two sides because even those two sides tasted salty. Everything tasted salty. So if you're into salty foods, this is the place to be! You'll enjoy it because the flavors are actually really good! But if you're health conscious, I might consider elsewhere because whoever seasoned the food had a heavy hand when it came to salt. You could easily split this meal for 2 people and that might have been the better solution. Anyways, that's my two cents. Enjoy! read more

Delicious & Fresh! A hidden gem in Uptown that is totally worth a visit. I have eaten in the restaurant and ordered food to pickup; either option is a great choice since your food is cooked to order. It takes a few minutes for your order to be done, but it is absolutely worth the wait. I recommend the Chicken Kabob Plate. The sides I paired with were hummus and potato salad. The plate is big enough to share between two (not so hungry) people as well as one hungry person. I've also tried the Beef Kabob Plate, which was delicious, but I like chicken more. I actually came to this place a few years ago with my sister, but totally just rediscovered it! I ordered the beef shawarma plate with cucumber yogurt + hummus as my sides. It comes with rice and 4 pieces of pita too. This is a steal at ~$11. Plus fountain drinks are only ~$2! The portion is honestly enough to feed 2 people, 1 if you're ravenously hungry. Tonight, my beef had good flavor but seemed to be overcooked and kind of hard to chew, which distracted from the overall great plate. This is the reason for my 1 star deduction. It wasn't like that the first time I visited, so seems to just be a case of inconsistency. Service is good, even when they're busy. They have 4 outdoor tables for dining, so if you dine there, the workers bring the food out to where you're sitting (even though you pay at the register). I ordered a raspberry iced tea but it tasted straight up unsweetened. I told the guy working there this when he brought our food, and he explained that the tea is unsweetened today for some reason he didn't know why. Walking into the restaurant, you're immediately treated like a celebrity. They have a cute red carpet leading into the restaurant. The owner/worker was very nice and helpful. We ordered the chicken and beff shawarma plate. The servings of food are perfect! They're big enough to share if you don't have e a big appetite. Each plate came with a salad, choice of meat, rice, and four pieces of nan bread along with humus and other sauces. The salad was fresh and came with cheese, olives, tomatoes, greens, and the dressing. I devoured it first and ate almost everything else. The rice was also flavorful. Our favorite was the beef though! Super tender and juicy. This is definitely our new go to spot for Mediterranean food. The price is fitting to the amount of food you get.
