Sisters Thai is easily my go-to restaurant in the Alexandria area. Not only is the food fantastic, the service excellent, but the ambiance is one of my favorites. This place is wonderful for hangouts, dates, and/or a great lunch or dinner spot. I don't think there's a restaurant nearby that has such a lively vibe. I regularly order the chicken satay, drunken noodle, and panang curry. Oh and, can't forget the dessert as well. It was a full house Sunday night and our group of 3 arrived without a reservation and the host kindly conjured together two small tables to make space for us on the patio. We tried this place for the first time last night, and I can truly say that Sisters Thai serves the very best Thai food in the Northern, Virginia area. We have a Thai restaurant literally a thousand feet from our front door, and we would pick Sisters Thai over that restaurant or any other Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese or other Asian-themed restaurant in the area. There are plenty of great choices on their menu. I had the Sisters Thai Fried Rice, which has chicken and shrimp and other fresh goodness and my family (who also had great dishes in front of them) kept asking for second and third and even fourth tastes of MY FRIED RICE. The fork punctures on their hands should heal soon (they were warned). Simple things like unsweetened iced tea, are made to perfection here. Appetizers like chicken satay (with peanut sauce) and garden spring rolls look and taste like something from a Michelin-Rated restaurant. Desserts are plentiful and amazing. My son and I shared a crepe with bananas, strawberries and Nutella. Actually, I kept stealing bits and pieces of his dessert and he was nice enough to let me get away with it. The restaurant is in the newer, more updated section of Old Town and so I'm worried that the locals will buzz right by this place and they'll miss out on the great food and I'll miss out on going here again and again, because it'll get replaced by a %$#@ Starbucks or something. Sisters Thai is one of my regular stomping grounds for a work lunch. It's right across from my building and so convenient and tasty. I usually go for the lunch specials which are plenty of food but like most restaurant, no lunch specials on weekends. The steamed dumplings were delicious! I honestly liked them better without the dipping sauce but would like a lot more crispy garlic on top. You can never have enough garlic, ya know? The Panang Salmon is my go to. The salmon portion is huge, packed with so much flavor and perfect on a freak winter storm day. I always get the Lad Na because it's one of the top I've had in the DMV area. Service and seating is usually quick (I typically go during weekday lunch time). I really like this place and was ready to make a regular sport with friends and family. But today you lost a customer. I was lied to about reservations outdoors by my server. There was NO one sitting outside. Not One Person. So I asked the hostess could I be seated outside and they said yes. I asked if I needed a reservation and they said no, they could seat me. I had eaten my meal inside and only wanted to drink my Thai tea in the sun. The server brought my second tea in a to go cup and told me I could sit outside but when I asked for my tea in a cup, he changed and told me outside was reserved. After my meal, my food was packed for me, and some of the parts of the meal were excluded. When I mentioned it, my concern didn't matter to server. I was literally ignored without an apology or anything. I love good food but good food with not so good customer service, being lied to and feeling disrespected as a customer is unacceptable. This is my second bad experience, and though I told friends about this place and had a scheduled lunch later this month, I won't be returning. There are places that I've been to that are really good, and I will continue to support those locations due to their location. Sister Thai is conjoined with Magnolias dessert bar. If you have time to chill and sit and talk and not worry about time, this is your place. The music was loud, either you have to scream loud or we could hear the conversations on the next table. We wanted to order flavored margaritas and lychee martinis but was told they couldn't make them. Pretty much the only alcohol mixed drinks you can get are the ones listed on the menu even though they have an extensive fruit juice/ lemonade menu. It has a cafe/bakery called magnolia's located inside too so there are lots of delicious dessert options! The cocktails are pretty food. I have gotten the fresh and famous both times I've been there. Food is pretty good and inside has interesting decor. My husband and I come here for date nights when we can get a sitter. We got the papaya salad which is good--the shrimp is cooked well. I got a seafood rice noodle pink soup under their thai street food section. My husband got the beef pork rice noodle soup because it was recommended by tom sietsena. And we also got an order of crab fried rice to split. I told server i5 was because we wanted to try everything. My husband said I shouldn't feel like i have to justify over-ordering. I really liked the crab fried rice. The seafood noodle soup was good but i don't think it is my favorite. Last time i think i got the sukiyaki. That was good. Came here with a group of six on a Tuesday evening, and it was actually quite busy! I highly recommend making a reservation because most people who walked in had to wait over 30 min. With regards to the food and drinks, everything was honestly realy flavorful and tasty. I didn't get a picture, but the menus is also so creatively laid out (it looks like a newspaper)! The only thing that knocked my experience down to 3 stars was that they did not come around the grab the check for a while (which is okay) but then right when our server grabbed my card to pay the bill, the hostess immediately came up to our table asking us to leave because they needed to turn the table over for the next reservation. Sister Thai has a really modern interior and seems to be connected to the cafe (Magnolia) next door. We came here on a Friday evening and we're seated right away but the restaurant quickly filled up. The dishes came out quickly and the staff was really attentive. Lots of dishes at Sister Thai has the spicy symbol. We ordered under the chef's recommendation section. The salmon panang curry was very flavorful with a bit of spice kick. The salmon fillet was huge and not dry at all! This was one of the best restaurant experiences we've had in a while. The space is gorgeous and has a cool vibe. It almost feels like you're grabbing a table on the street. There's a large marquis over the bar and the menus are printed as newspapers. I was not expecting the cocktails to be so unbelievably elevated and stunningly delicious.
