Walking at 9:45 we knew we had enough time to grab something quick to eat because the kitchen is advertised as being open until 11pm. The bar being 1/2 busy we grabbed a bar top table, a waitress came over within 2 minutes & we explained we would like to order something to eat to which she grabbed a few menus and then sat at the bar with 2 other waitresses. After 5 minutes my friend got up & went into the dinning area to grab the waitress who had gone into the area to clean tables. We could see him having a conversation with the 2 waitresses there. He came back & said the kitchen was closed. I said it's supposed to be open until 11pm' he agreed, I stated why did they give us menus 5 minutes ago. He stated that he asked the waitresses the same question & got NO response !!! They never even came over to get a drink order. My husband and I tried out Skoobs yesterday after several recommendations and it did not live up to the hype. I tried the chicken fingers which were described as "HUGE" on their menu. It was 4 fingers for $16.99 and 89 cents to add garlic parm sauce plus $2.99 to upgrade from french fries to tator tots. The tots were great - nice and crispy. The fingers were nothing to write home about and I would not describe them as "HUGE". They were average sized fingers and I've had bigger fingers from pizzerias. They are fresh, never frozen according to the waitress. When our waitress checked in on us, she asked how the chicken fingers were and I replied "eh" with a sour look on my face and all she said was " Oh no I'm sorry. Everybody loves our chicken fingers." and did not ask if there was anything else she could do or if I wanted something else. Instead she ignored me the rest of the meal. My husband liked his chipotle burger and said he would go back for a burger, but I was totally unimpressed and disgusted at the price of 4 fingers and tots. Additionally, my husband asked if they offer a military discount and our waitress replied "yes", but only took 10% off of my husband's burger, not the entire check nor did she ask as if I was military. Four of us met here for our usual monthly lunch. Pot roast sandwich, shroom & Swiss burger tasty enough, but not exceptional. I was looking forward to the Southwest chicken salad, sans chicken. But when I learned they had no avocados, I switched to the Caesar salad. Just okay. Not bad, but once again, nothing special. House made croutons were a plus. Service was great. (Would it be strange of me to mention that she smelled of potpourri? Too late. I just did.) Decor... well, not much in the way of decor actually. And unfortunately Skoob was experiencing difficulties with his furnace, so it was pretty chilly. He did come by to apologize. One oddity that stood out to me was the music channel playing jazz. Not that I have anything against jazz. It just didn't seem to fit the tone of the place. Every business is experiencing supply issues. She chose pepper jack & I had American. Both meals super tasty and the service was stellar. Three different wait staff checked in on us throughout our meal despite there being a good sized lunch crowd filling most of the room. Kudos to them for a job well done. We love going to local family owned restaurants and are so glad we stopped here. The atmosphere is comfortable and friendly. Even people at other tables were joking with us while we were looking at the dishes being brought to their tables as we tried to decide what to order. Their wings were a great choice to start with. Very clean place, we could seat ourselves. We were the first in the dining room cause we went for lunch on Good Friday to heat the crowd. The waitress was very friendly but sorta distracted with the bar area and wasn't able to juggle waiting on our table Ruth what was going on there. Never checked on us after we received our food. Had to catch her if you wanted something like the bill. Food was fresh! We had beer battered fish fry's. They came out nice and hot but seemed to be very greasy on the batter as they cooled. Fries were home made snd great. Salads were very bland especially the coke slaw no sweat & sour flavor. Skoob's Village Grille is an unethical place of business. Do not ever throw a party there without expecting them to charge you more than the agreed upon terms and nickle and dime for every little thing on top of that (including takeout containers that we were offered by a server for the leftover food). They charged us more than the number of people that were eating and we RSVP'd for (as we paid per head) and they told us they counted the number of plates used as the number of people. Many people use multiple plates to separate the type of food they get at a buffet; that is not an adequate counting method. I was told the woman I booked with would meet me at the party and we would discuss the guests. That never happened. They also clearly avoid taxes because they pushed us to pay cash and the server explicitly said to avoid the taxes. When I said I would be paying with card, she revised the HAND WRITTEN bill and then charged me an additional 3% to pay with card, which was never a part of the original agreement. I understand paying a credit card fee, but not after the total had been confirmed before the party. The owner was so upset the Bills lost that he lost his patience and started to take it out on patrons that will now never be back. Edit to add: it is clear the owner takes no accountability for his behavior, as portrayed in his response to me and every other negative review that was previously posted. In addition, he just adds fictional details to make his story sound better. No reputable owner responds to customer dissatisfaction like this. I did not fabricate any part of my review, and I have several witnesses to back me up. I also never deleted my Facebook review; It was removed by a group admin because people in the comments were getting out of hand. You are more than welcome to threaten me with attorneys. I have a witness that was with me when the server told me if I paid cash we would not have to pay the tax. I also have witnesses that were there when a server said we could use the takeout containers. Mind you, the take out containers were in the room on a shelf and I made sure we asked before using them. No one asked the servers to put the covers back on because people didn't eat. That never happened. We simply asked if we could take the leftovers and we were given permission. I also have the messages between the manager and I about the party. At no point was I told we needed 30 people, were limited to 2.5 hours, or we would be charged for taking leftover food we paid for home. The manager I booked with approved my original count and said it was fine for people to be there for the surprise that we're not eating. She also said nothing about a time limit, especially since we booked to for the Bills game. We were here the week before for the Bill's game and no one sat on the patio, so there was no loss to you there. We also were not served. The food was put in the chafing dishes to serve ourselves and we had to go to the bar for our own drinks, so I'm not sure what he is referring to when he says he had to pay a server for extra hours to serve us. Doing what? The owner never said anything about the containers of food until I questioned the extra charges, which is when he screamed "don't get an attitude with me!" He has absolutely no control over his emotions. He saw this side of him as soon as the Bills lost. I was even reached out to by a previous employee telling me how horrible it was working there and how everyone was afraid of him. She validated every part of my review on Facebook and said she experienced it firsthand as a server. We were also told they are constantly turning over staff because of this treatment. It's an unfortunate loss of future business of the people that attended that night , along with the many people we have been telling about our experience. As a society, we need to stop classifying chicken fingers as a kid's menu item. Checked out Skoob's Village Grille in the Village of Lancaster and their homemade Char-B-Que chicken fingers were HUGE and the sauce was perfect. We also ordered a Chipotle Avocado burger and a Bacon Bleu burger which were both massive and perfectly cooked to our liking. It appears everything at Skoob's is made in house. The place had a quaint neighborhood feel and our waitress Amy was extremely friendly and made us feel like old friends. I've also heard whispers around Buffalo that Skoob's Fish Fry is the best in WNY and the owner only serves fresh, never frozen fish which is delivered every Friday. Fresh sweet corn topped with cheese peppers and bacon, paired with a hearty serving of tortilla chips. Honestly I've ordered this as my meal before, it's that good. Today I had the "Cheese Please" burger. The burger was cooked perfectly to a medium rare temp with great seasoning and sear on the outer crust. 10/10 would order again. Hubby ordered the tenders, a Skoobs FAVE! Crispy thick white meat chicken breast fried and tossed in your choice of 15 sauces. He chose the char-bbq. House made tenders tossed in house made bbq sauce then slapped on the grill for that smoky charred beautifully acrid flavor. These tenders were so good I had to sneak a bite for myself. Pro tips-- order the skooby crack'd corn, handmade tenders (in whatever sauce you please), and make sure to wave to Skoob and his wife as you're there! I would rate them higher if possible. On 9-16-23 my husband and I had our surprise wedding celebration for over 60 people upstairs. Their hall was the perfect size and very clean(yes a more Modern vinyl plank floor is overdue, the green rug needs to go, and a different neutral wall paint color, but I tried to compliment it with my decorations) The dinner buffet was amazing, we had four meats...people couldn't stop raving about all of it especially the Italian sausage, roast beef, pasta and the potatoes. Our server was Brenna who was extremely attentive along with the banquet manager Brooke and Lori. We decided to try Scoob's on a Friday evening and I don't see us going back anytime soon. We had a reservation and were seated promptly but we waited a long time to place and then receive our drink orders. We also ordered waters that were never served. The only fish dinners that were served hot were the battered fish. My broiled fish was ice cold and while they did take it and zap it in the microwave, it was returned only lukewarm and dry and overcooked. My friend's fried bologna sandwich was also served cold. The only thing that came promptly was the bill. Be advised that they do not do individual checks. Take cash so you get a 3% discount and since we were a party of 6, 20% gratuity was added to our bill. It's a neighborhood bar with a dining area. I have never had dinner there, but have sat at the bar during Tuesday's trivia and taco night which is fun to watch. The tacos are not exactly authentic Mexican food but if you're not expecting that then they're fine, simple flour tortillas with taco seasoning and cheddar cheese and whatever else you like. I took my mother and an out-of-State friend to Skoobs for a fish fry. The full fish fry was HUGE, more than enough food: a large piece of fish, 4 sides and bread. The half fish fry was simply a smaller version, including all of the sides. I chose the jumbo wings, very crispy and seasoned just right. The first was fantastic. We went after the fireworks display last night. We got there early to avoid the crowd. There were signs all over saying the kitchen was open till midnight. We were the only ones sitting at a table and there were a few people at the bar. No one greeted us or brought a menu, even though there were several employees milling about. I got up and found a waitresses for a menu. She curtly told me it was only wings, fingers and fries. After a bit she came and took our order. The place was filling up. No one seemed to be sitting down , mostly bar patrons. After almost an hour and no food, no waitress telling us when it would be ready, we left. I put $5 down for my drink and left. I've never done anything like this before. How long does it take to deep fry chicken fingers and french fries? They knew they'd be busy and all they were serving were deep fried foods. I came here for the first time as a recommendation and it did NOT disappoint! The devils candy appetizer was delicious but my rib-eye steak sandwich was done to perfection! Our first time here. Very clean and friendly service. A great menu with so many great choices. I ordered the fried bologna and my Mom ordered beef on week. We shared both sandwiches. The beef on wreck was tender and delicious and not overcooked. The fried bologna was honestly the best one I ever had. Lots of bologna and sliced thin like I prefer and the onions were so sweet. I went with some friends on a busy Friday in Lent. Expect a wait anywhere in western NY that serves fish on a Friday. We had a drink or two at the bar before we sat down. I bought one round of drinks and felt either this round was really expensive or the bartender took advantage of me for not paying attention and charged way more then the going price and the correct amount! I should of said something but didn't once our table opened. Be careful at the bar and what your charged. Table service was great the waitress was very friendly. I started with the clam chowder and that was very good. I had the fish which I would go back for again. I was disappointed they didn't have any local wines though. Food: After 9 on a weeknight they only serve bar/fried food. We got wings - which they offer in a variety of flavors. We ordered 20 and got half with Carolina Gold, the other with Nappy's - both were delicious. The Carolina Gold was a mustard BBQ, and the Nappy's was a strong medium with a little bit of sweetness. Our friend got the Skooby's which was made with fresh super hot peppers, and were VERY hot! He said they had great flavor though and weren't "just hot". Another friend ordered the chicken fingers which looked delicious. Not the typical flat & frozen like you see at most places. They came with fries. Service: Bartenders were very attentive and friendly. Even though they were busy, we were greeted and served right away. My only criticism was that our order got messed up, and we got conflicting information from the bartenders and waitresses, however it was quickly resolved. Atmosphere: Half is a bar with some high top tables. The other half is dining. They did a great job keeping both sides clean, tables were lacking napkins and certain condiments though. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars, is because I did not sit down to eat. I ordered a large to go order for my family and I. So glad we did. We ordered wings, fish fry's, roast beef, and onion rings. They got the whole order correct, which was my first pleasant surprise. I needed some 'alterations' for the fish fries lol. The wings I got were bbq, which were delicious and saucy, garlic parm, which were very flavorful, and the everything, which were by far the best. They even char grill them, which just seals the flavor. My dad loved his fish fry. Large piece of fish, with a ton of sides. He was in heaven! The roast beef was decent. Not the best I've ever had, but it was ok. I'd get it again. The service was fantastic, and she even walked out to my car with me to help me carry my 3 large bags of food, which was greatly appreciated. Right on central avenue in the heart of the village of Lancaster. A great spot where there are other small Mom and pop shops around. The atmosphere of the place is pretty normal. Nothing to special, but it is clean and well kept up. They have just recently opened only last week, and we wanted to give it a try. The menu is small. We started off with the poutine. It was a medium size. The cheese and gravy we good. While waiting for the poutine to come out the server name came back to take our order. After finally ordering the wait for the food was very long. My wife and I both got burgers. Chipotle Burger(chipotle mayo, avacado, lettuce, tomato, red onion) the chipotle mayo was awesome and the burger was good. Bleu bacon jam burger(bacon jam, bleu cheese crumble, lettuce tomato, red onion) the jam was super good, but the burger was over cooked and the roll was a little to toasted. Overall the whole experience took 2 hours which was much to long, and we didn't even have the kids with us this time. I like the hand rolled pizza rolls, good specials and nice folks. I enjoy the afternoons there. I have gone during dinner and it gets packed! A Tuesday afternoon they have a Wings and Taco special to satisfy that late lunch/early dinner. If nothing fancy but just right. My friend and I stopped here before an event at the Lancaster Opera House. We ordered two drinks; a Jack Daniels and Coke, and Irish whiskey with ginger ale and lime. Let's be clear the Irish whiskey was not Jameson. I'm not sure what whiskey it was. Two drinks were $15. At any other restaurant this order would have been about $10 to $12.
