Location: Despite being right off Military Hwy, they're still almost hard to spot since it's literally right next to Home Depot & kind of hidden from the main street. Sufficient tables, bench seating, yet too many chairs but it's perfect for that eat-n-go type thing. Staff: I'm not kidding when I tell you a lot of people work there!!! There must've been 8-10 people easily!The cashiers up front taking orders were really nice and professional. You can see inside the kitchen and it was packed!! Maybe they know what it takes to run a place like this on a Saturday! A fellow was walking around the dining room talking to everyone asking if we were good or needed anything. Loved it. I loved that when the rush died down a couple employees came out to clean up, sweep, wipe down tables, and refill the sweet tea container. Food/Menu: Easy to read and simple choices as to not overwhelm their customers. Plenty of variety found at your typical fast food seafood joint but BETTER! I really enjoyed my order of a dozen jumbo shrimp and sweet potato fries basket. Fiance's 2-pc whiting & shrimp with fries platter was delicious, too. Everything was battered and seasoned perfectly for us. What I noticed was that they give you condiment packets. Not sure if they're free if you need more but the packets were a large size and more than enough so we didn't need more. My first experience with them made an impression and I definitely recommend if you're in the area and in the mood for fast seafood. If you enjoy southern seafood this is the place for you. Not only that but there are multiple locations. We went to the one in Norfolk VA. So this is one of the most legit southern seafood places I have to in awhile. I had the skrimp po boy and it was a true to form large sandwich loaded with skrimps and tangy sauce. They also have a catfish po boy if skrimps are not your thing. My fries were nice and crispy. The the nicest thing about the fires was that they were all crispy not just the little ones. Loved that. When I first walked in, I was greeted by the young man behind the counter. I went there around 4:30pm on a weekday, so I was kinda shocked at how busy they were. I figured "they must be good" since it looked as if it was lunch time. The young man behind the counter was polite and patient while I reviewed the menu. I ended up getting the the shrimp tacos with the poe boy sauce on the side. These tacos were soooo good!! The shrimp were fried and seasoned perfectly and the poe boy sauce was very good, a little different from most Poe boy sauces I've tried from other places. I'm a slow eater and I ate my tacos in about 5 minutes lol(and was full). The wait time for my food was about 10 minutes, which was pretty good being how busy they were. I am glad I gave this place a second chance. The first time I went, I was sorely disappointed. I had such high hopes for the place. I chose not to write a review because I knew if I did, it would be scathing. The first time I went, the food was greasy and it tasted like the grease was old. I couldn't finish it and fed it to the birds in the parking lot. This time, it was just the opposite. I ordered the skrimp basket with sweet potato fries. The shrimp were piping hot, crisp on the outside, and juicy and tender on the inside. The portions were generous and they don't skimp on the condiments. Win, win. The fries were cooked to perfection with a hint of sweetness. I don't care for processed beverages, but I do get a cup for water because they have the best ice. LOL. I chose this place because there wasn't much in the house, I love fried seafood, and I really loathe fast food and this is kind of in-between fast food and a sit-down meal. The food was pretty decent and plentiful for the amount of money spent. I had the catfish and shrimp basket. My favorite was the shrimp, which were large, flavorful and well prepared. I wish I would have ordered a vegetable instead of hush puppies because it was a lot of fried food, but the food was well prepared and not overly salty, which I run into frequently in similar restaurants. (These are common in Philly and out of area Philly places trying to make it in the cheesesteak world often use them) so I was 1) disappointed in the bread and 2) disappointed in the size of the sandwich for the value. After a morning/afternoon of work, my stomach was rumbling. I pulled out my Door Dash app and my eyes settled on a sandwich I'd been wanting to try for a while. I decided on the shrimp and crab meat po'boy and decided to add cheese (everything is excellent with cheese), tomatoes, lettuce, and their mild house sauce on the side. I also ordered hush puppies and mac and cheese. For a nice finisher, I went with banana pudding. My food, along with my roommate's, came out to well over $60 but I figured it was worth it. Pricing can sometimes indicate quality, but just not in this case. I received my food quickly enough and I was ready to dive in. My roommate received what he ordered but my sandwich was wrong. There was no lettuce, no tomato, and no cheese. I also didn't have my side sauce so basically I had a very dry sandwich. The only saving grace was that the shrimp breading was delicious. I was quite disappointed. On top of that, I also didn't receive my banana pudding. All around this was a 1-star experience. When one spends over $60 on your establishment I would think extra care would be put in to make sure it's accurate and that the customer is getting what they paid for in case they want to come back and spend even more (this was a possibility next week). I won't say skip this establishment because what they sent was actually decent but I recommend picking up your order as opposed to using a delivery service. When you pick up you can check your order in the store and rectify any issues immediately. As for me, I had to go through Door Dash's customer service who was easy to deal with to get compensated for the money I threw away here. I will not be returning. I'm sure they don't care but this isn't the first review citing missing or incomplete items, reputations can be tarnished if this is done enough. Edit to add: the response from the owner pretty much says it all. Door Dash is not a mandatory service. If you're going to offer your company on delivery applications then make sure you're reading the entire order. My sandwich had add ons like macaroni and cheese and hush puppies. If you saw that you should have seen the rest of the ingredients on the sandwich. The most expensive sandwich on the order was incorrect. The second sandwich asked for half mild and half hot sauce, he received just that. The banana pudding was a stand-alone item so how was that missed? This wasn't a case of Door Dash being the issue because I've placed more difficult orders than that without incident. This was a case of clearly disliking the service but will advertise on there to get money while not taking care to make sure you're reading it in its entirety. I definitely won't be back, that response on this review solidified it. My suggestion for the company is to get off of Door Dash if they don't like supporting the service but if you're going to scoop up coins from the service make sure you read your orders accurately. read more

The shrimp were so poorly breaded that the breading was falling off in several places. Very unprofessional when I called to notify management including being hung up on initially after the young lady answering shouted a "we're closed" script into the phone before I could get a word out. Less than 19 hours ago, I chose to order some seafood from the Skrimp Shack (in the military highway area of Norfolk Virginia) via Doordash. My husband and I initially talked about ordering food from here this past Thursday, and I finally got around to ordering the food yesterday (Saturday). The driver who gave my food to me was cordial and timely with the food delivery and the seafood I ordered was delicious. I selected the lunch portion of the Mahi Mahi fish basket with fried okra while my husband chose to have the shrimp poboy sandwich (luckily my hubby also enjoyed his sandwich). The only caveat is that the online feature allowed an ordering option to select rootbeer and I received a drinking cup minus the rootbeer. When I shared this with the driver he acknowledged how I felt though he admitted that he was given my food order minus the drink (I let it go because the drink was free of charge). So my friends and I decided that we were going to try the Skrimp Shack. Overall the experience was decent. The food was among some of the other tasteful and filling seafood restaurants I've visited in Norfolk, Va. The servings are enough to fill your stomach and have leftovers for later.
