Used to be our "canteen" and supper usual ! The main attractions are the "three dish, one soup" and the supper specials. Had fond memories of many of their dishes including curry fish, fried egg with beef, steamed half chicken, pasta and pork chop, claypot seafood tofu and etc.We recently found out that it doesn't open for supper anymore. It's business has certainly taken a toll since Covid. No frills family style meals for families and close friends. Your friendly neighborhood dive. A convenient late night eatery if you live around the area. Foggy as heck, but worth the drive since the food is decent and inexpensive. You could pretty stuff your stomach to capacity for about $10. You probably won't find a place any cheaper around San Francisco, or maybe you can, but it's rare. Anyhow, the food here is tasty. The Chow Fun (flat rice noodles) is a bit greasy though, but.is very filling. The Porridge with Preserved Salted Pork with a thousand years old egg (black preserved egg) is also good. And I really like their Deep Fried Garlic Chicken Wings. All was very good. It was very filling (probably grease) and to the point. The flavor was obviously there... Especially the Chow Fun. Not the healthiest thing to put in our tummy, but we all splurge unhealthily at times. Parking was abundant late at nights compared to the weekends where you'll literally have to fight for a space. Probably too many stores and not enough parking spaces for the plaza. I'll make this place my late night eatery whenever I'm in the Bay Area. Convenient to where I stay, and very affordable. As far as HK cafés (aka 'cha chaan teng') in the Bay Area go, Skyline's Café lies squarely in the middle of the pack. The food is decent, albeit nothing spectacular. However, service is simply horrendous, even by Chinese standards, and the restrooms are absolutely appalling. The "happy hour" deals in the late afternoon and wee hours of the night are reasonably priced. There is also a wider selection than at most other places, but unlike elsewhere, drinks are not included. They are offered at a discounted price of $2 though, so if you wish to order just drinks, you have the option. The wall artwork is interesting, yet hilarious at the same time to say the least. Horrendously bad renditions of Steph Curry, Michael Jordan, Ché Guevara, Sergio Romo, a Chinese dragon, and a Boss Baby in the image of the Virgin Mary all make their presence known while you wolf down your meal. Once you've caught a glimpse of these fine creations, they simply cannot be unseen! The phone number and e-mail of the artist are also boldly listed, so if you are so inclined, you can even have your own custom version in the comforts of your home! Overall, I'd say that during normal lunch and dinner hours, you can find many options better than Skyline's, but for either late afternoon or to quell those evening munchies (open until 1 am), it's a more than viable option. read more

So I placed an order for a take out and drove up to the restaurant. Parking was easy and was lucky to have parked in front of the place. The food and price are fantastic. However, it's the customer service that kills it. I ordered takeout over the phone and before I even finished, the cashier hung up the phone on me as if she couldn't bother to hear any of my questions, which was simply "how long will my food be ready?". I had to call back to have her say "10 minutes" then she hung up as quickly as possible. When I got to the cafe, there were two ladies - one who asked what number my order was, in which I replied "I was not told any number". The cashier thought she was a smartass and said "I'm pretty sure I told you the number" very rudely with a smirk on her face. I replied "what kind of customer service do you have? How do you do business with that attitude?" She did not say a single word back. She collected my money and I promised her I'll go on yelp to document this incident. The women are no more aloof than male servers in similar Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area. Ours today brought menus and hot tea quickly when we strolled in at 10:30 for morning Happy Hour. We ordered $5.75 Singapore rice noodles (yum), $5.75 salt n pepper wings (also yum), and $4.50 wonton noodles soup (no good-the broth is bland and the wontons taste off). Chili oil, soy sauce and vinegar are on every table and helped make the soup slightly more palatable, but not enough that I'd ever order it again. The place was half full with diners busily eating when we arrived. As they finished and left, more people came in but not enough to fill up the place. In my most recent visit, the 3-dish dinner special was subpar. The tofu skin in the beef stew was dry and hard (either not soaked enough or undercooked). If you come here, look at your receipt before paying because, as others have mentioned, you get an 18% charge on your bill regardless of the service that you received and additional charges without letting you know why, so you will see like the cost, taxes, 18% gratitude charge and small fees where they nickel and dime you. Their menu is also outdated, and it is intentional so that they can upcharge you later with random stuff. Also, keep in mind that this 18% charge goes to the owner, and the lady at the counter is most likely the owner or one of the owners of this business, but she won't admit it, so don't attack her directly. I know this because some Chinese establishments have the owner as the cashier to prevent employees from stealing money from the register. The "infamous" lady is also one of those toxic Chinese women that no man would want to marry, or if they did, they would leave her. I am Chinese American, and this place isn't that great. It is cheap, but not great. They GMO a lot of the stuff, so it tastes good, but it does not, and you will notice that when you take stuff home, it seems to go bad fast, and that is because the stuff that they serve is old fish, old shrimp, or something. Also, if you pay close attention to the smell of your breath after eating here, you will realize that it smells like cardboard. Anyway, it is true that they take money from you. If your bill is around 43 dollars and you give them 60, you won't see that 17-dollar change at all. When asked, the owner (cashier) will say that you only give them 45 or maybe 50(Thanks to Grace A. from Burlingame, CA) Lastly, they charge 18% gratitude automatically for parties of 5 and more, but the way that they set up the receipt is that the gratitude is all the way at the bottom, so you might not notice it right away. Lastly, that gratitude goes to the owner. The only ones on Clement Street (under different ownership) have similar prices, but unlike this location, you can pay with a credit card, and they don't charge gratitude or do anything sneaky with their customers.
