The food is good and the ambiance is excellent. But they had us waiting for over an hour and half. We came in with a group of 6 and 2 kids and originally told us that it would be a 40-45 min wait. Then when we asked about how much long at the 55 min mark they told us 10 more mins we are clearing tables now. After an additional 15 mins we asked again how much longer. The hostess then preceded to ignore my companion and address another family and seat them. Another hostess came and we talked to him instead. But they then told us that they were waiting for more tables to open to connect but why would they tell us they were clearing tables and it was only gonna be a 10 min when it was gonna be much longer then that. I just wish they were more transparent about the wait and not only that had some decorum as it is their job to help the guest not ignore them and act like they aren't there. I get it! A good level of spice. Parking is difficult but can park across the street and cross at the crosswalk. Service was terrible which impacted my star rating. Our server was not friendly at all and seemed bothered by our even being there. Had to ask for coffee refill because she was never around. My friend ordered a bourbon tea which she thought would be hot, but was actually cold. When she inquired if it could be heated, she was told there was no microwave and then when she asked it be remade hot she was told she would be charged and then never received her item. My go-to order is usually the Nutty Cakes, which consists of natural peanut butter, chocolate chips, and bananas. However, they also have some pretty spectacular weekend specials. You can plan ahead by keeping an eye on posts from their social media accounts. Their specials always look - and taste - mouthwateringly delicious. In the past, a favorite weekend special of my has been their Killer Bee Waffles and their Strawberry Rhubarb pancakes. Each weekend special offers something that is creative and different. Needless to say, it keeps me coming back to see what they will have in store. There are a few locations throughout Cincinnati. Each one has their own specialty dish. This one offers the Blue Ash Smash - a savory breakfast sandwich that is my husband's personal favorite. Parking can be a bit of a challenge at the other locations, but luckily this one has its own parking lot. I would also recommend avoiding peak hours, as this is a popular destination for breakfast and lunch. The Sleepy Bee also uses locally-sourced ingredients, so it feels good knowing that your patronage goes toward supporting the local economy. I will say that the options here are a bit on the pricier side, but I believe that the quality of the food more than makes up for it. Another nice added bonus is that they put in an effort to be environmentally conscious. I love that they use biodegradable plastic bags and plant-based straws, which are as good (if not better) than the "real" thing. In addition, they give back to those in need. It had chopped, unseasoned chicken. The toast was burnt and tasted of burnt oil. It was so over dressed with the aioli that it made a big mess. So messy that the waitress noticed and brought over extra napkins without me asking. So messy that it was falling apart as I tried to pick it up and splashed sauce on my shirt. Staining and ruining it because it was so wet and sloppy. I ended up picking at it with a fork because the bread became a soggy mess and the sandwich fell apart. My daughter's sandwich had the same chopped chicken. It was ok, but again, mediocre at best. We both chose the Roasted Red Skin Potatoes as our side. They were under cooked, and under seasoned. This place gets a lot of good reviews and a lot of love online, and look, it's not a bad place. But here's the deal. It's overpriced. Just like a lot of places, I guess. Two plain old buttermilk pancakes was $10. That's a joke. I don't care how much costs have gone up in the past couple of years, the materials and labor to produce two pancakes doesn't justify $10. But really the most disappointing part of the experience was this $14 breakfast sandwich that arrived at my table with the side of potatoes looking like roadkill. Again, the price of the sandwich and side did not comport with the amount of food served. But the presentation of the potatoes was frankly laughable. I'm not sure if this is some new trend where food is supposed to look like a toddler slapped it onto a plate, or if the cook was trying to do something artistic, but when is food presented on a plate as it it were discarded garbage, it doesn't mentally prepare the customer to expect anything of quality. I gave it my best shot though, and it turns out the potatoes were cooked just fine and the sauce was... bland. I live walking distance to this place but won't be going back. For the $50 I spent there on three little plates of food, I could have prepared a banquet of a breakfast at home that was superior in virtually every way, and fed eight people instead of 2 or 3. To the cook at Sleepy Bee: dude, please, watch some YouTube videos or something on how to present food. You're "style" is extremely off-putting. And consider adding some salt or something to that gelatinous gravy or whatever that you're slathering on those potatoes. read more
