I'd consider the corned beef sandwich here a must on any food tour of Cleveland. Upon entering, you're greeted with big smiles and friendly banter. My biggest regret was coming here solo because I would have loved to try several other items on the menu. And no, the pictures of the corned beef sandwich are not enlarged, it really is that gargantuan. It's delicious but rich. Definitely needs that pickle to cut the richness. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor is legitimately old school: a brick facade, minimalist interior, wood paneling, and utilitarian tables and chairs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nothing fancy, nothing trendy--just an authentic deli serving an iconic sandwich.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] What a great spot.

How cool to be here and especially on St. Patrick's Day 2026! I had a medical appointment this morning and it's just a couple of blocks from the Clinic so I came here for lunch on my way back to work. I joined the line just before 11 and got inside about 11:50 AM. I'm currently standing in line waiting on my sandwich which is a corned beef melt. I ordered a corned beef melt, which is toasted rye, cornbeef, double Swiss cheese - hot & melted with Kraut on the side and dressing. I got a side of potato pancakes, and also coleslaw. The folks were extremely friendly on the inside, very welcoming and very efficient as they worked to make who knows how many meals. And you'll be glad to know every sandwich comes with a dill pickle, wrapped in its own paper and ready for delicious consumption! The dill is a big deal to me because I like spears, as in the pickle not necessarily (in this case) the pop star! Come early and be ready to wait! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is really kitchsy and has a great atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And the folks really make it awesome to be there. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It has the feel of a destination restaurant the kind of place that is an experience to visit not just because of the food because of the culture and the people and the phenom that it has become.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Good spot for corned beef and pastrami. Not too stacked where you have to eat with a fork. Got the Cleveland melt, corned beef and pastrami with swiss. Wish it had a bit more cheese. Pickle goes well with the sandwich. Order upfront and the get seated. They bring the food to you.

classic sandwich shop that I've been wanting to try for a long time. Walk in the door and place your order have a seat. Massive sandwiches come out quickly. Ok, full disclosure: fairly or unfairly, rightly or wrongly, my gold standard is Manny's Deli in Chicago. My out-of-town friend and I visited Slyman's for the first time (even though I grew up here). We arrived at 11 am to find a line already forming out the door! Thankfully, it moves quickly. Plus, this is a line where people talk to each other. It's where you make friends and get to know people. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small, unassuming little "dive," but don't let that fool you.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's the tastiest pastrami I've ever had in my life! It beats Manny's pastrami, hands down. The Reuben was excellent. Great cole slaw, could use a thicker slice of Swiss on there, but it was an excellent, excellent sandwich. The rye bread was quality rye and perfectly grilled. The staff was seriously the most kind group of people you could meet, right down to the very thoughtful busboy. Slyman's even has Thousand Island dressing on the tables, so you can pour as much of it as you need to eat that huge sandwich. There are three things Manny's has over Slyman's. Manny's gives you a latke with every sandwich; Manny's gives you a bigger sandwich, and they still have Gino.

The corned beef was so tender and made a perfect complement to the crisp fries and cheddar sauce. The potato soup had bits of their various meat in it, giving it a smoky taste. The staff was extremely efficient trying to move customers through the tiny space to prevent the line out the door from getting too long. It has been many years since my last visit here and many medicore Corned Beef sandwiches. Today it ended upon my return to the city of my birth and a trip to the best Cleveland has to offer, Slyman's. I had forgotten that they run an abbreviated schedule, dedicated to breakfast and lunch, and arrived a paltry 15 minutes before closing. So I had expected that only take out would be available, but no, while the table section was closed, they said the counter area was open. I ordered a Corned Beef sandwich and onion rings. The sandwich was nearly the size you get in an NYC deli and the onion rings were sufficient in portion for a side. My initial instinct was to put some mustard on the sandwich, but decided to take a bite first. Grateful that I skipped it, as the sandwich was incredible tasting from the first to the last bite. I'm guessing they batter their own rings, as it was crunchy, and unlike frozen rings, had the taste of onions. During my brief time there, the staff was incredibly gracious and at no point did I feel pressure to finish and get out. We had momentary chats, making one almost feel like they were part of the family. [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the outside, some might wonder if this is a place they should be visiting, but to let this facade turn you away would be a huge mistake.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was incredibly good and was matched by a great staff! So if you're a Clevelander and haven't been there, pay a visit. If you're visiting from out of the city, make sure you find time to stop by.

Pastrami sandwich with potato salad and a pickle

We were visiting Cleveland from out-of-town and had to visit the famous Slyman's! We were not disappointed! It was about three minutes from the time we ordered to when they delivered our food. Our sandwiches were huge and absolutely perfect. The potato salad and pickles complemented the sandwiches deliciously! We will definitely be back!

I recently went here for a weekday lunch with a friend to try this Cleveland icon. While we had to wait in a line that went out the door to order, it moved quickly and we were able to place and receive our order in under 10 minutes. Slyman's was once a Jewish-style deli; although there are still vestiges on the menu, this is no longer the case. I got the house special corned beef sandwich and intended to split the potato pancakes with my friend. Although the sandwich was pricey ($20), it come with a ton of meat. The corned beef was good, although extremely salty and a bit difficult to eat by the end. The potato pancakes looked like they had been taken straight from a package frozen and halfheartedly thrown into a cooking vessel; I took one look at them and couldn't eat them (my friend tried and confirmed my suspicion). I'm glad I tried Slyman's; I got my fill.

I'm from Columbus but have family in Cleveland Had been wanting to go for a long time but I'm always up there on Sundays when Slymans are closed Well...made it on a Monday and...OMG The best ever Family run Clean Friendly The absolute best corned beef and pastrami! This place is AWESOME! And just what they advertise, awesome GIGANTIC sandwiches. I got a traditional corned beef and could only finish half but was super stoked to take the other half home to eat later. We came around lunch time with a party of 5 and still managed to get seated. I guess the price is kind of steep for just a sandwich but it is really very tasty. read more

Not able to go to the downtown location, my wife and I went to the Beechwood location. We had been there one other time but this time will be the last. The meat was not the same as the original (seasoning not the same and meat was sliced wrong, not across the grain but rather with the grain making the meat stringy, ) Rye bread was not from the same baker as downtown. We have been Slyman customers for many years ,always downtown location except twice. Our server [ Dorian ] asked if he could make another but I did not want to wait due to our distance to home. Date was 2/17/21 2:30 afternoon. Also the meat was warm at best. Corned beef sandwich and Order of onion rings {$26.44} Gave Dorian 20% tip since he performed his job . read more

I got a little intimated when i looked at the surroundings and the front of this restaurant. Traveling alone in a strange city makes me a little nervous. But I decided to man up and give it a try. Wow! Had the Reuben and fell in love just a little bit. That corned beef was awesome. And the thousand island that came in a squeeze bottle, yummy! 16.00 for a sandwich isn't cheap, but I wrapped up half and had it for dinner! read more

This was my first experience at Slyman's. I wanted to come to this place as soon as I looked for places to eat on my trip to Cleveland. And it didn't disappoint! We got take out. 2 corned beef, a roast beef, and a turkey melt. They were all delicious and definitely more than enough for one person to eat! I stopped around lunch time and was surprised with how fast I was in and out. There was a decent take out line and the restaurant was full. As busy as it was, it was quick and easy. I also like that they gave us some extra bread to split the humongous sandwiches in half. Quick and easy service, and tasty food. What more can you ask for!? I'll definitely be back my next time in Cleveland! read more

It's like butter - I mean the corned beef literally melts in your mouth and I want another one now - The place is commotion city at 12:00 - I came in by myself for lunch - yeah I just wanted a corned beef sandwich - I was seated at the bar then moved to a table - wow and they were apologetic and we are sorry - I don't care just came in for a corned beef sandwich and I took one to go - because they are soooo good!!! read more

Hands down best corned beef I've ever had. There's no where in Florida that's has a place just like this. Slyman's offers severals other sandwiches other than corned beef like BLT's, hot or cold turkey sandwiches but if you're going here corned beef is the meat of choice! You can have it on any kind of bread, but you should probably have it on rye. I got the Ruben with the sauerkraut on the side because I saw how much meat comes on the sandwich. In addition to your sandwich you get a delicious house made deli pickle. If you feel like you need more food ( I was feeling fat) you can order sides like crinkle fries or house made potato salad. Simply excellent. read more

Had the corned beef, and some pierogi. I have to say the corned beef is something special. They sort of fine-chop the meat, which is the first time I'd seen that. But it lets you manage the sandwich better, if that make sense. The pierogi was golden fried with onions, and you can't say no to that. The location is a little strange. It's the only "deli" I've seen that's built like a sports bar. Not my scene. But the food is great. read more

Mm mm mm! Stopped at Slymans on a Thursday afternoon; we were pleasantly surprised when the line wasn't out the door. As usual, enjoyed the corn beef on rye and a turkey melt. Why would such a legendary Deli drop 20 items from menu? No spinach salad, caesar salad, no romaine lettuce? Hard to understand why an owner would fool with success and happy customers. Love Slymans tuna but without my two favorite salads to add a scoop, I had a tasteless mixed greens. Oh well at least my wife's sandwich was delicious as was our friend's pastrami! Frozen french fries, Kringle cut, are brutal too! Out of the box. read more

First time at the castle that corn beef built and we were not disappointed. OMG was the CB w Swiss and yellow mustard fantastic. Even better we stopped by on a sunny Friday at noon. We decided to carry out and we're through the line with our order in about ten minutes. The staff were friendly, the corn beef melts in your mouth and the substantial portion was supported by a firm and tasty rye. The fries were good but nothing fantastic and the cole slaw fresh and creamy. We live about 15 minutes away and will be back regularly. We would recommend Slymans to everyone who is not vegan. read more

Vegetarians need not apply. This is a near-legendary Cleveland establishment that is open for breakfast and lunch on the weekdays, and, more recently, lunch on the weekends. As far as the food goes, you don't really have options. You are going to get the largest, most delicious corned beef sandwich of your life. For an extra fifty cents they will hide a little sauerkraut under the beef and call it a reuben. Come hungry because they pile about a pound (if not more) of corned beef on each sandwich. You will definitely need a fork. There is always a crowd around lunch time and a line out the door is not unheard of. Nonetheless, they keep things moving and this is the perfect downtown spot for an hour lunch break. I should mention that its in an older, somewhat dilapidated building and the furniture/decor is like an 80s diner. I am recommending Slyman's strictly for the corned beef sandwich - the restaurant itself is not very attractive. read more

Locals, locals, locals! The food and service is amazing and the best. Can't say enough goodness about this place.... Be prepared for a great experience... If you want to experience the heart of Cleveland, you'll find it here. From the time you pull up till you pull away. For those who are out of town... It's a must go and the locals know it... If you can go at off peak times otherwise it's a wait but well worth it. read more

Was not happy with the fact that a 10.99 sandwich with cheese and sauerkraut became 12.99. They don't even give you a potato chip on the side for the extremely high price. And it didn't even taste that good, either! Not the Slyman's I remember. read more

By far the greatest place to get a corn beef sandwich in all of Ohio. Their sandwiches are on some next level! And I mean some truly next level! You haven't lived till you've tried one of these! Nothing and I mean NOTHING can even come close! The service is always great, the waitresses are always very personable, which I like. You can really sit down and relax, and just take in the atmosphere of the place. Their food is great, whether you are getting their breakfast or their legendary corn beef sandwich, you won't be disappointed. This little joint truly encompasses the spirit of Cleveland. This place is a true Cleveland landmark. read more

The pastrami is intoxicating! Perfect crusting and moist. I had mine as a reuben. You MUST come here while in Cleveland. The staff is so kind and patient even though it stays slammed.....Now I must go back to Florida where there is nothing like this. read more

Whoa - first off - the bathroom is filthy and makes me wonder about the kitchen. What a turnoff! Yes the sandwich was large, but not much taste. Not sure what the big deal is about this place. The owner was rude to us too so, needless to say - not going back. read more

As everyone else says, great corned beef. The sandwiches are ridiculously large -- really too large to fit into your mouth -- but if you order a couple extra slices of bread you can turn it into two sandwiches and take one home for tomorrow's lunch. Lines are out the door for carryout near closing time. What really turns Slyman's into a four-star for me is the atmosphere -- it's the kind of place some big chain would like to be able to recreate but would end up feeling fake. This kind of atmosphere has to be developed over time. read more

Stop by Slymans for some of the best corned beef money can buy. The Russian dressing sauce is divine, and don't miss out on the pickle. Our server was very friendly as well and gave us extra bread for no charge. read more

We stopped here on a recommendation from our Uber driver. He did not "steer" us wrong! It's a cute little diner type eatery with breakfast and lunch. You should not leave here hungry! Our waitress was super! She quickly got my breakfast order in, even though there was only 5 minutes until it was finished. Everything was phenomenal! Our waitress went a step further by not just telling us, but going outside and showing us where to walk to our next destination. I'm told this is a Cleveland franchise. We would recommend it to anyone! We will be back if we ever get to Cleveland again! read more

They do offer abundant breakfast options and still serve their famous corned beef in the early morning (for those wondering, like I did). Louder environment, but Slyman's is great at getting you seated and your order taken in a brisk manner. read more

Ugh! What is the deal with the whole city of Cleveland (or at least the West Side and downtown) going krazy over Slyman's?! This is absolutely the worst corned beef I have ever eaten in my life. I've been enjoying corned beef and deli food since I was a kid, and I've had enough to know what's good and what's crap- and Slyman's, sorry Cleveland, is crap. The famous corned beef is greasy beyond belief- it soaked through my take home bag! The barbecue brisket sandwich was a joke: dry tough beef slices slathered with bottled bland BBQ sauce. You have to share your table with other customers, due to the limited seating in the tiny restaurant. Not for me. You wait in line forever to pay your bill, which just makes everything worse. Its a very popular place especially with working stiffs from the surrounding industrial neighborhood. You want real, good corned beef? Go to Goodman's at Pearl and Brookpark Rds. Of course there is always Corky and Lenny's. Slyman's is the favorite deli of gentiles who have never had real delicatessen food. Too bad. read more

Instead of giving me the opportunity to explain to her we would have done takeout anyways had he not arrived(but he did because again, it was a 45 minute wait), she just continued to talk over me. I didn't get to eat about 1/3 of what I paid for and I had to work really hard for the other 1/3. Also, the bread had a very spicy taste. It must have been cinnamon and allspice, but it was entirely too much and very overpowering. It truly tasted like a spicy savory bread which is not what I was expecting or wanted. I would be very happy to leave 10 stars. We drool over the thought of getting our Slymans fix between visits. Its not located in the best neighborhood, nor is there alot of available parking. The guy behind the glass is not the most friendly fellow and there is always a long long line with very little room to get the heck out of the wayof other diners and staff trying to work while you wait for your order. But once you taste your first bite of heaven you wil forget any hassle you went through to get it. In fact you will be wishing you ordered 2 to hoard one for later and will be checking your calendar to plan your next visit. I have vistited Carnegie and Stage in Vegas and left both beyond disappointed as Slymans is my model for a fantastic deli meal. Neither one of those so called superior delis could even come close in moist but not greasy, flavored but not salt lick salty meats, moist fabulous breads, and fresh condiments and veggies to match The corned beef has always been perfect and I have never felt the need to pay extra for leaner cuts on any of their meats. It has just enough for flavor but nothing excessive. The pastrami is perfectly peppered and flavorful. The sandwiches are huge with piled meat and very affordable. I have never had enough room to attempt sides or desserts but having spent many minutes waiting around with all visits combined, I can say the potato salad looked great while the fries looked limp and boring. But personally none of that matters to me since Im not there for that. Come early because they close early and try to avoid the lunch rish if you can so you have somewhere to park and they don't run out of corned beef before you order. We came there thinking it was a Jewish deli, wanted a chocolate phosphate they don't have them, ordered water with lemon got water with this generic lemon juice, I've never seen a restaurant that doesn't have fresh lemons. Wanted Matzoh ball soup they don't have, ended up ordering a corned beef sandwich with swiss under the sandwiches It states make any sandwich a combo for a dollar, I wanted to make it a combo and I was told that a combo has nothing to do with a side it means two meats on the same sandwich. ‍ SMH. They only have one dessert and that's cheesecake, passed on dessert ended up at Sweet Moses. "Over priced" $15 for just a plain one $16.50 for a Rueben with no side, very dry, was stared at from the ones behind the line which made me feel very uncomfortable when I was trying to enjoy my lunch. I watched as a younger black guy came into line and one behind the line kept saying how are you officer like he was talking to someone else but there was no one there, it was like he was trying to scare this younger guy. I agree with all the positive reviews regarding Slyman's for lunch. This is a little gem of a deli, not very big inside but serving just super great food. It is understandable when you see so many people standing line outside of a tiny little place. It never disappoints. The sandwiches are pricey and HUGE. They taste the best too! The corned beef omelette with Swiss cheese is my favorite. Served with a pile of home fries and toast you'll definitely like it. I've been there too many times to count. I was born and raised in Cleveland and have been a fan of Slyman's corned beef sandwiches FOREVER. Let me just tell you, NOWHERE makes them like these guys do. I no longer live in Cleveland, but thank goodness I still have family that does. I visit Slyman's EVERY trip I take back. I have yet to find a better corn beef sandwich!!! Just so everyone knows... If you order a Ruben- the bread comes toasted with cheese and of course crout. If you order a regular-its not toasted and no cheese or crout. GO WITH THE RUBEN! read more

Best local deli in all of Cleveland. There's a reason this place is always so busy and that's because it's quality food and there's an amazing staff that makes you feel like a welcomed friend. I love their corned beef but my go to is the pastrami melt. If you're ever in the Cleveland area you'd be out of your mind not to check this place out. read more

Just make sure you have plenty of time for the food coma that is sure to follow, but you will have a giant smile on your face! Lean corned beef was sliced razor thin and piled high! It was Oh so tender and succulent! I could only eat half the sandwich and saved the other half for later! read more

Went with a friend last week that raves about it. It was horrible. It was a fight just to get served and get your order in. Now the food. I don't want to pay $15 for a sandwich nor do I want to eat a pound of corned beef. I know corned beef is salty but this was over the top. read more

Corned beef piled to the ceiling - what's not to love about that. Heck, even George Bush visited the place. The CBs are tasty and juicy, not shaved too lean so as to eliminate the taste. Go there when you're hungry - you'll be pleasantly pleased. read more
