First let me start off by telling you a secret... I don't really like hamburgers/cheeseburgers really but everyone else does so I end up here the other day with friends (Their choice). Don't get me wrong. Im not opposed to a cheeseburger every now and then for the sake of the greater good of the group. We can't eat Chipotle every day like I want, especially the one in Elk Grove. My husband and I love trying different burger joints and we came across Smash one day and decided to give them a try. WOW we were hooked from the first bite. The meat is so flavorful compared to other burger joints and the Smash fries are delicious since I believe they are made with olive oil. The lines here are always long but they are fairly fast on taking the orders. The service is good and friendly as the staff is young. My usual is the Spicy Baja with extra jalapenos/chipotle sauce and my husband always orders the BBQ, bacon & cheddar. When we first started going to Smash they had all the different extra toppings and sauces you could add to your burger listed on their in store menu. Now for some time they have excluded those items from the wall menu but you can still add them when ordering. So since we have gone there so many times we already know what extras to add but it can get annoying when having to ask what other extra they have if you wanted something different. There was one time that the burger came out burned and it seemed that day it was burned for almost everyone. Good thing we didn't order it to go or we would have been up for a surprise. Well twice we returned the burger as the meat was crispy!?! Apparently they had some new person making the burgers who was taken off the grill when so many complaints were coming in. Finally 3rd time around the burger came out good and the manager apologized by giving us a free meal coupon for next time. All in all that was a random occurrence and we still continue to come here when we need our burger fix. Based on my first visit to Smash Burger in Elk Grove during the summer I would have given it a 3 star rating. Reason why is because I went with my 15 year old son and we ordered 2 regular cheese burgers, smash fries for me, plain fries for him and shared a shake. It came to over $20 and my son was questioning me why I didn't just give him $5 to go across the street to McD's! The food was good but not worth a $10 PP for fast food. I was also bit leery as the place seemed to smell of mildew? When questioned the staff they didn't appear to notice the strong odor. I gave the Arden mall food court location a try and was pleasantly suprised. They allowed me to order from the kids menu which consists of small burger ( cheese extra) fries, ( smash fries- small upgrade ) and med size drink for $5. That is a great deal! More than enough food for a serving size conscious person. I love how you can order blue cheese , cheddar or other styles of cheese. The mustard flavored smash sauce is different but adds a tangy taste to the burger. The bun is fluffy and soft, or you can change to multi grain. The smash fries are tasty with the rosemary seasoning, and the Hagan Daaz shakes are to die for. If you never have had a Hagan Daaz shake you have to try one, and so worth $3.99 price. Shoot in Vegas I paid $5 for one scoop of Hagan Daaz.! I now love Smash Burger and frequent both Arden and Elk Grove locations. The employees are friendly and service is good. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. We rarely leave reviews like this, but this place is just TERRIBLE. Way overpriced, not an outstanding burger at all, and took more than half an hour to get our food, and with the wait, no one even seemed to care. The restaurant staff said they were behind because they had to fulfill online orders before us, which I understand, but then don't tell customers who walk in that it's a 15-20 min wait when it's actually 30-40 min. Overall, just still ridiculously priced and slow for fast food or quick service food. Nothing fast or quick about this place at all! My coworkers and I decided to give this place a try since we all didn't bring our lunch. We've been wanting to try it for awhile, but it was always so crowded that we never had the time. The restaurant itself is really nice. Very simple but modern decor and it's nice and clean. The menu is on television screens (print is a little small) and you have a variety of beef burgers, chicken burgers, fries, and salads. You can also construct your own burger anyway you like it. There are a variety of sodas, and 3 choices of teas. No "combos" are available, everything has "its own price". I had the mushroom and Swiss burger and I wanted to try their "smash fries", a mix of olive oil, rosemary, and garlic. They serve the burger to you with the buns toasted. (Which I like!) I want to say they use potato bread, so it's really soft in the center. (Apparently they used to have pretzel bread, but this one did not offer that.) The meat is seasoned well and it's piping hot. The only thing I didn't like was it only came w/ mushrooms and Swiss. When I go to The Habit, they put EVERYTHING on there unless you tell them not too. Like I said, I ordered to Smash fries, but they gave me an order of regular fries. When I pointed out that they messed up my order, they were pleasant enough to say they'd fix it for me, but I had to remind them halfway into my meal. The Smash fries were good. I was expecting more of a big taste like traditional garlic fries, but it was a little bit more underwhelming that I expected. It was good, but I can't say it'd be my new obsession. Overall I thought this place was okay. With my burger, fries, and a drink, it was about 11.00. A little bit pricy, especially when I can go across the street at the Habit and get almost the same thing for a little less. I have given this location a few chances, but suffice to say that will not happen again. Parking is plentiful and easy to come by. Cleanliness is spotty and it is sometimes difficult to find a clean table. I have found the restroom in disastrous condition as well. Their food is decent but their order accuracy is horrendous. I have received the wrong order on multiple occasions. I have also received avocado pieces that are hard as a rock. Don't offer avocado if you can't serve them properly. Their burgers and chicken are average at best. Their smash fries are decent but there's better elsewhere. I won't be back. Smashburger gets close to the ideal fancy-ish burger place - with an emphasis on freshness and quality that offsets the unhealthiness of burgers, with inventive combinations that taste fantastic. I was fortunate to try just about every burger on the menu on my first visit. My favorite part about Smashburger is the sheer variety, there's definitely something for everyone. If you want, every aspect is customizable with quite a few options. For example, there are numerous buns, interesting cheeses, you can add an egg (hurray!), and any meat burger can be made with the same toppings/etc but with a black bean patty. And let me tell you, that black bean patty can stand up to any beef patty when it comes to flavor. I'm also told that the salads are excellent, this is great to hear since the salads are often afterthoughts at other fine burger establishments. Finally, unlike many other trendy chain restaurants, I do believe Smashburger is sincere in its mission of quality rather than chasing buzzwords. I saw this in ways ranging from their customer service to the simple and fresh ingredients during a tour of their kitchen. Why only 4 stars? To be honest I still think burgers should be flame broiled - Smashburger makes a decent argument that the griddle helps keep in juices, but it's still not the same. Highly recommended: BBQ, Bacon, and Cheddar - astoundingly tasty, and I don't normally even like bacon. First time I came here I was impressed, I ordered 2 chicken baja crispy w/fries and a shake. It was a bit expensive for a place without a waiter service but at that times it was hyped up so I had to give it a shot. The fires and shake were very good, and the sandwich was average. I took my pops here after he said it was decent, after that I did not come back for a few years. I went about a month ago and I was not craving it but a few friends were so I was down. I decided to get the grilled chicken because I am on a diet and I would have to say it was much better than the fried chicken(and I hate grilled chicken). Just came back from the opening day at this location. I've been to the Citrus Heights and Roseville locations already, and the burger quality was just as juicy and consistent. If you've never had a Smashburger, it's a must try. Easily one of the best fast food burgers in the area. The meat is fresh and never frozen, they form each patty and cook them to order by literally "smashing" them on the grill to sear the tops and lock in the juices. On this visit, the fryer was down so the cashiers told us right away that there wouldn't be any fries. After a few grumbles from the opening day crowd, everyone got their orders placed. Our burgers came out and after taking a few photos for your viewing pleasure, we dug in :) Super juicy, and with the fried egg on top, it was like eating breakfast for lunch! A few minutes later, the manager and cashier came by offering free fries to every table since they weren't available when the store opened. To me, that's the definition of service. Smashburger is a cross between 5 Guys and In N Out and customization like the Counter. I say this because you can customize your burger like The Counter, but the service and ambiance is more like a 5 Guys burgers and In N Out minus a drive thru. The portions are just right and not massive. They have a good variety of menu items. The establishment is clean and well kept, and the service friendly and helpful. They ring you up at the counter and hand you a number but bring your food to you at your table. No traditional waiter service. This makes for a very casual atmosphere. I thought the Smashfries were different with the rosemary and olive oil seasoning. Note that their fries are SHOE STRING fries, not thick - If you like crispy fries you will like theirs! read more

And since we ate there they gave us the shake in a glass with the rest in the metal tin. They seem to be a bit disorganized. Only one person on the cash register when it is so busy. Maybe It was an off night for them or maybe this is true to their regular product output. But... last night, the fried chicken sandwich I ordered as a Classic Smash was very unappetizing. I'm just going to get straight into It. If I am being honest, the first few bites weren't bad, but after getting into the sandwich I came to realize the toppings were good, the breading on the chicken was good, but... the chicken itself was atrocious. It was rubbery and hard to chew, not entirely sure why I didn't say anything. I think It had a lot to do with the fact that we walked in with 30 minutes left of them being open, so I didn't want to bother them. That was a mistake. I should have gotten something else. Aside from the bad texture and taste of the chicken itself, the service and fries that accompanied my burger - the smash fries (tossed in rosemary, garlic, and olive oil) - made the meal a little more bearable. So overall the meal wasn't disgusting, but I definitely didn't walk out happy with what I had chosen. I'm not sure if I will be going back. I really do enjoy Smashburger. When I am in the mood for a good burger this is usually among the top contenders. It isn't my wife's favorite spot so I am usually vetoed, but when we do go I am never disappointed. I love the sauces they have for their burgers, the add-on ability, and the create your own option. The hamburger bun is delicious and I feel as if the ingredients are very fresh. Unlike with other similar restaurants, I never leave Smashburger feeling gross or too full. The other nice thing is that because the popularity has died down quite a bit (Elk Grovians have a tendency to absolutely invade a new restaurant for the first month and then completely abandon it no matter what it is) which means you can go just about any day and any time and the line wont be too long and there is ample seating. I had the blue cheese burger this time around and it was AWESOME. The blue cheese was extremely fresh and flavorful and the buffalo sauce was on point. The fried egg on top was just the cherry on top :). I also tried the Salted Caramel shake which....OMG....is probably the best shake I have ever had from anywhere. I am usually not a shake guy because I feel that they are always way overpriced, but I decided to #treatmyself this time around and I was not disappointed. I don't know if I can ever come here again with getting that shake. The only reason I did not give Smashburger 5 stars on this occasion because something about their ordering system really bothers me. There could be 4 people in line is all, but be prepared to wait for quite some time. The wait is worth it to be sure, but it is irritating that the same employee who is taking your order is also the employee making the milk shakes. What this means is that if the other 4 people ahead of you in line ordered shakes, the employee is not going to take your order until all of the shakes are complete which I feel is just very inefficient and makes the wait times extremely long despite a short line.
