It's not on my list of usual stops when it comes to new food joints and I think that's because I just never grew up around or palled around with folks who asked to get Cuban a lot either. However, sometimes you come across an amazing experience of trying out a new to you Cuban eatery or food truck that makes you say maybe I should be eating more Cuban food The Cuban Sandwich was an effing delight--chockful or meats, cheeses, and awesome bread to encapsulate them all. I always think of the film Chef when I try out a decent Cubano and this made me think of a sandwich that's worth lining up an hour or more for. So too were the potato balls worth waiting for as I can honestly say that I liked these ones better than Porto's. And everyone manning the location I went to were just a delight. They were both super effusive, helpful, and eager to brag about how much love they bring to everything they make. They were a definite highlight of my night eating here. The folks there were even nice enough to let me know or their upcoming brewery schedule and I've already pencilled myself in to see them again come April. This place effing rocks. read more

The owners of this little pop up were so nice! Saw them at lake fest in Big Bear. After walking past the first time I decided I had to have that for dinner. The stand smelled so good and everything looked and sounded great. They gave us a half Cuban and half quesadilla each which did not disappoint. I don't even like crinkle fries but theirs were excellent! The potato ball was unique and delicious. The green salsa/sauce they served with it all was too good! The owners were so sweet, and they are serving up some delicious Cuban food! We happened upon their stand today while passing through Old Town Pasadena while they were set up on Saturdays at Stone Brewing. My fiance and I weren't super hungry, so we ordered one cuban sandwich to share and it was the perfect amount of food. They give you a beeper if you eat there and the food came out pretty quickly (I would say less than 10 minutes). Our sandwich came with seasoned fries and a papa relleno (fried breaded potato ball with meat inside like the ones they sell at Porto's but smaller and crispier). The Cuban sandwich was deliciously moist (very tender juicy pork) but lightly crispy on the outside and had the perfect amount of seasoning and flavor. The seasoned fries were crispy, and it came with a small dish of green sauce (I'm guessing it's a mojo verde that tasted very fresh and possibly had cilantro in it). I would definitely get food from Smokin Cubana Cuisine again, so please give them a try (from their Instagram, they do catering and are doing pop-ups at various breweries Tues-Sat--so check their Instagram)! read more

Ordered the sandwich twice. Once for me, which I immediately enjoyed right away, stays warm over 30 min if you have to travel back to eat somewhere for work. Fries are seasoned well and not over salted, same w/ the sandwich. Guacamole green salsa mild spice but full of flavor. Asked for a bit more spicy and was told a new sauce was in the works, which I was lucky enough to get a sample of. Tanya was fun and kind and easy to talk to and Connect w/ about food and culture. Unbelievably friendly, outgoing, and service focused. The food.... Tanya's Papa Rellena's are magical. A perfect golden brown, crispy crust, with a creamy, flavorful filling that puts Porto's to shame. The Ropa Vieja will make you smack yo mama it's so damn good, the lechon in the cubano is tender, moist, and full of flavor. The fries, yes, even the fries, are incredible and show just how much attention to detail they pay to every item they sell. This place is the best Cuban food I have ever had! My husband and I tried this place when they were at Pro Five Brewery and it was incredible. We got the Cuban sandwich, potato balls, and empanadas. Empanadas - not even exaggerating but this is the best empanada I have ever had in my life lol! It was so flavorful, and the empanada dough was so perfectly soft and crispy at the same time. Definitely try this! Potato balls - I never thought I would find potato balls that tasted better than Porto's, but boy was I wrong! Soooo delicious and packed with flavor. Heck, my taste buds are still thinking about their food. What first caught my eyes when checking out other reviews and pictures on Yelp were their beer battered fries. No one does beer battered fries and I told them that. They were crispy perfection. I ordered their Ropa Vieja quesadilla and it came with a side of fries. Their ropa vieja was so flavorful, I saved 1/2 that quesadilla for the next day and I swear they were the best left overs. I also ordered a chicken empanada and beef empanada. Both were just as tasty, but the crispness of the fried masa was texture perfection. I also ordered their papas rellenas. Those were so yummy! Save the best for last... so, they give you this avocado sauce. That sauce, omg, you're going to want to put on EVERYTHING!!! Sorry my words are bold and extreme with exclamations everywhere, but their food was incredible!!! You can see and taste the quality of their dishes. I don't even know where to start. How has it taking me this long to find this place. When I first saw it I knew I had to try just based on reviews. Let me tell you they did not disappoint, my only negative thing to say is that they are not open every day, but you are forgiven. Service is excellent. You are greeted with a smile, it was only two people but that's enough they have such a good energy and let's not forget food was bomb. My favorite was the empanadas and torta.
