My new favorite place for good Bún nc lèo Sóc Trăng. Broth is very light, the way I like it. Not salty and not too much anchovy smell. Just enough to please my palate and satisfied my craving for good tasty soup. Nice white pieces of fish, shrimps and crunchy pieces of heo quay. Love the veggies from shredded cabbage, bean sprout, chives, must squeeze in lime. Yummy! Voila, bon appetite! Yes they take credit card. 2 small bowl of bún nc lèo $17.29 already included tax. Just happened Last night. We decided to take our cousins there for dinner. We called around 7:45 pm to make sure they were open on Christmas night. A lady picked up so I asked her what time they were going to close. she said 9pm. We got there at 8:00 pm. The open sign was on but when we got to the door, a guy stopped us at the door. I was expecting a run down hole in the wall. The place is clean and looks like they recently remodeled. They have Khmer culture decor. I ordered the banh cong and Soc trang banh bao. I was craving banh cong and haven't had it since I was a kid. The banh cong taste nothing like what I had. The service was very good. The servers were very friendly and attentive. They did not understand my broken Vietnamese words. Their fish sauce was very strong for my taste buds, it could be a Soc Trang flavor preference. I had to add water to water down the fish sauce. Their bun nuoc leo Soc Trang is the epitome of a perfect noodle soup. Just make sure to eat it HOT. It will not work as take-out. Nothing with broth this stinky tastes good lukewarm. It's stinky enough, by the way, that two different waitresses tried to warn me about it before bringing it out. One just said 'You can eat fish sauce?' but the other came right out and said "This soup... a little bit stink" while holding her nose and scrunching up her face. This kind of thing used to offend me, but now I just laugh and remember that their intentions are good and they're just trying to make sure I will like my food. This is not the kind of food where I think 'how could anyone not like this soup?' because yeah, I can see how one might not, if one doesn't like soups that taste kind of... swampy. It's thick and dense and cloudy and fishy. (The idea is to use gourami fish sauce, according to Wandering Chopsticks - I wonder if they do?) But the shrimp that curl on top are clean and fresh and firm, and the pork belly is an absolute dream. Crunchy (somehow, despite soaking in broth) and tasting like it just came out of the oven, with no part of it too tough and no part of it too gummy. You get the whole cross section of the pig, skin to fat to skin. And there are a million pieces of it, even in a 'small'. Every bite can have some pork. Every bite, in fact, can have everything. I didn't find at the end of my meal that I was out of anything or had too much of something else. Worst service ever. We came in to order some buns. The price they are showing on board is $1.50/each. We decided to get 6 from them. The cashier charge us $11.50 in total. Then the owner said there would be 50 cent extra charge for togo order. As I believe they charged the extra on each bun. I can't believe they just wanted to rip us off. Please stay away from that business practice. I rather go somewhere else with higher price with better service. $2 for each banh bao togo plus tax, no thank you. read more

I only heard about this place. Visited them on the darn day they were closed - Thursdays. Sh*t! Although I haven't tried out their food, I'm very disappointed at their location. You have to walk up one flight of narrow stairs to get to the restaurant, and that just isn't kosher for any disablility person. So frustrating! My mother's traditional taste palate's the only reason why I would give this place a chance, however their plaza's accommodations are under par for a stroke survivor like my mom. read more

3.5 stars (bonus 0.5 star because I want to see this restaurant opening for a long time due to their specialty). I went here on their grand opening and had to wait 1.5 hours for a bowl of "bun nuoc leo". However, it was their first day so I would not be too hard on them. I came back several times later for a to-go. The soup of "bun nuoc leo" is kinda bland compared to the one I usually get whenever I visit Soc Trang City in Vietnam. However, it is better than the so-called "bun nuoc leo" from other restaurants in Orange County which tastes more like "bun mam". read more

I went here today and I was pleasantly surprised. I went to Soc Trang, Viet Nam last year and I was missing the food from that region. I was surprised at how good the bun bo xao and bun nuoc leo was. It tasted pretty much the same as the dishes in Soc Trang. The only thing I would say is that the "da me" should be improved..It didn't really taste anything at all like the Da Me from Soc Trang, Vietnam! Being born and lived a decade in Soc Trang, I was thrilled when a co-worker told me about this place. My boyfriend and I were in the area and decided to give it a try. Bun nuoc leo is one of my favorite dishes, I can eat it any given time of day. Of course, I ordered the bun nuoc leo. The bun was good and the broth bought back memories. The reason why I onlu give this a 3 star is because in the middle of enjoy our food, there was an argument going on behind the cash register. It was more like the lady was scolding at one of the worker. I couldn't help but overheard the scolding since we were only a table away from the register. The lady was loud and didn't seem to care there were people in the restaurant at that time. The atmosphere was very uncomfortable. I was driving around with a couple buddies and needed to get a car wash so I stopped in this small complex. While I was waiting for my car to finish, I got hungry and was in the mood for some good grub. Stumbled upon this place and decided to give it a shot. Walked in, and was greeted very promptly by the hostess. At First impression it seemed like any ordinary mom and pop shop, which I really liked. Now, I'm usually pretty particular about my vietnamese food (bahn mi's, vermicelli's and pho) specifically because I spent 4 years in San Diego, near the Kearny Mesa area...where some of the BEST vietnamese spots are ;) I wanted to compare this place to one of my favorites over there, so I ordered a Beef vermicelli...I think it was called "pan fried"? The food came out about 15 minutes later and man was I impressed. I've gotten vermicelli maybe 50 times before but this one wasn't like anything i've ever tasted before. There was something unique about the way they marinated the meat, the flavors were really authentic. The meat was very fresh and tender, and spices were out of this world. Any time I go to a new vietnamese spot I always have to order the Pho (I like it because its comforting and has a diverse range of flavors within the broth. This place didn't have traditional Pho, so at first I was a bit disappointed, but the lady told me to try the soup that they're known for I think it was called "Bun Noc Leiu" (Spelling)? It was a fish stock based soup with chinese roasted pork and shrimp, I've never heard of this soup before but was recommended by the new owner (been open only a week), so I decided to give it a shot. She asked me if I wanted it normal or extra fishy. Me, being the daring guy I am and loving to experiment asked to have it on the side. when it came out, I loved that there were so many greens and fresh herbs, it reminded me a lot of regular pho at first...but man was I wrong. After tasting the broth I decided to add a spoon full of extra fish/shrimp paste diluted stock in and BOOM! the best flavored soup i've ever tasted! At first I thought it'd be overpowering, but it all works! I added some chopped thai chilies and lime for an extra kick, the entire bowl was awesomely fresh, spicy, sweet, sour, and only mildly fishy. It was so well balanced!... I was in heaven. Inside the bowl was also piece of white fish (not sure what kind), but it was super tender and flaky.It was definitely a unique bowl of soup and I'd totally crave this again! I'm so glad i found this place, now I have a new go-to spot! read more
