Bf ordered some food to go a couple of weeks ago. He had a chicken tostada and ordered me a chicken burrito. Bf thought his tostada sucked and my burrito was really bland like retirement home food. Not even putting hot sauce can save this utterly bland burrito. What made it worse for us both was we found joint cartilage mixed in with the meat. What can I say about this place I have so many mixed emotions. I've been coming here for years here and there because the food is so good and cheap. One thing that has never changed about this place it's how dirty it is. The tables are always dirty and the floor is never clean. When the waitress comes and cleans the table she brings an old smelly wet rag to only roughly clean the surface. Last time I was there I noticed they're health department score fell from an A to a B. I also realized their prices went up. I don't mind paying the dollar difference but I just wished they used that price increase money to better the restaurant appearance. For a meal, expect to pay $8-10 and for a drink $2-3. Service: 2/5 - The service is slow and they don't come to check up on you. If you need something, you always have to flag them down. However, it's mostly because there are too few employees to handle the amount of people that come. They're definitely overworked. I would place the blame on the owners. Hand-made tortillas are always a good sign and a plus in my book. Socorro's has that and more. There is a fairly full menu here, ranging from tacos and burritos, to tortas (my absolute favorite) and traditional dishes such as carnitas plates and soups. I've yet to eat anything here that wasn't excellent...but the tortas here are especially good. The meats are well seasoned and prepared and the portions are good. Service is nice and very welcoming. While the atmosphere isn't top notch, remember you're not paying top notch prices. Instead, Socorro's offers really honest, authentic and delicious food with friendly service. I came here once with my parents and I remember it fondly. This place is tiny. The chairs are uncomfortable and there is no elbow room but all those things melt away once you take your first bite of food. I had carne asada tacos with everything (steak, onion, cilantro and salsa) on their delicious homemade corn tortillas. To drink I had a horchata which was also homemade and it was so good. It is reminisant of homemade food the way your Mom would make, if your Mom happens to be Mexican. Everything tastes great and is not highly priced. The handmade corn tortillas are even better when you dip them in salsa, make sure you ask for a side of salsa. I really like this place. The food is very authentic Mexican. The homemade tortillas are the best. I really wish i could give this place 5 stars, but I can't. The reason... inconsistent. Some days this place causes a giant party in my mouth, other days... the food is so bad I can not eat it as a result of faulty prep work. Example: Chili Relleno filled with seeds instead of cheese. As I entered the restaurant I noticed most of the tables were dirty with empty plates and cups. There was only a few people there.
