RUN FROM THE BAR! I never thought I'd say those words...Ever! Stopped in to grab dinner along with beers with a friend. The restaurant looks to separated into two sections. The entrance area contains a grill with seats as well as a bar area while the second area has booths and tables for dining. It was only the two of us so we decided to dine at the bar. We figured why not, we're closer to the beers this way. Or so we thought. I guess I'll get the meal out of the way. The food was great, no complaints there. The tempura scallops & shrimp ordered for the appetizer were both soft and crispy drizzled with a flavorful sauce. The Korean style spicy ramen contained more ramen than expected. Visually it doesn't look as if it does but it was able to feel up both me and my friend. Last the garlic soy wings were brought with the sauce as a dip rather than the wings tossed in it as the menu suggested. Even with not being tossed the chicken was crispy and seasoned well. Would have tasted even better being tossed in the sauce due to it's strong garlic taste I liked a lot. WITH GREAT MEALS COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY...or should be supported with good service and that's where it all falls flat. The staff is nice but you see very little of them. Literally! There is no bartender so the server is the one to go behind the bar and pour your beer, assuming you can actually get a hold of one. There's a button on the bar to press when you need a server but even with pressing the button the response is delayed big time. We sat about 25mins after ordering our beer before actually receiving it and that's no exaggeration. So close but so far is the thought I had while staring at the draft handles. The same occurred when trying to put in orders for food. However the area with tables and booths seemed to have their undivided attention. We considered moving to that area but regardless of the area you choose to dine, the service should be equal. Other than seeing other customers walking past, expect a complete ghost town if you choose to eat at the bar. The check was brought after an overly long stay due to delayed service and even the check took a while to arrive. Then came the wait to hand over the cash but it took so long that we decided to approach the register near the entrance door. That definitely caught someones attention and rightfully so since it is near the exit. Calm down...I don't bail on my checks LOL. Great food and friendly staff but they need to work on being able to work multiple areas at once. The restaurant wasn't packed so why service was as slow as the sloth from Zootopia is beyond me. I really enjoy the atmosphere of Sojuya. The dark lighting and blasting music set the mood for a fun night out with friends. Looks Japanese, but the menu runs more Korean with wings and corn cheese. There's a grill where you can get robata-style meat on sticks. The menu is pretty diverse and the sake offerings aren't bad. We came here for happy hour on day. Shared a couple of sake bottles and a bunch of bites. The house chicken wings are pretty good...solid fried wing and nice sauce. We got a noodle dish with vegetables, and an order of the corn cheese. We found that we needed an order of fruit to cut through the richness of our snacks. They welcome you with an offering of fresh popped popcorn. We were able to snack and chat for quite a while. The staff came by to check on us, and they have that button system built into the tables that you can press when you need something. Happy hour means 20% of your check...not too shabby. If you bring more friends, you can try more stuff off the menu. The vibe is pretty chill. It looks like they have karaoke available at some point, and they show KPop and JPop music videos on their giant screens. It's amusing and comfortable. I'm updating my review because I've noticed the quality of their service is decreasing drastically. I've visited a handful of times after my original review. With every visit, I've encountered bad service, poor attention, incorrect orders, and overall unpleasant experience. Side note: I'm under the impression that management is prejudice and discriminatory. I can speak and understand conversational Korean, so if you're reading this Mr. Manager, I highly recommend you keep your negative and unprofessional comments to yourself. My friend and I took a chance on this place last minute due to availability and the promise of Japanese food but it was not quite what we thought. The atmosphere is nice and the host met me quickly and was super friendly and got me seated while I waited for my friend. I was served water and popcorn while I waited which was quick and the server was nice and accommodating but the menu was not quite what I expected. When we ordered we had a Korean beef plate which was delicious but the dumpling appetiser was not the greatest. The food seems more traditional with the exception of the appetizers which are a bunch of various fried vegetables etc but not particularly appealing. The place is cozy but the food and all the various Japanese sake / beer options were not totally appealing to us but maybe we are just not ready for it. Still a nice place to get some food if you like things fried or very traditional dishes like intestine soup or lots of udon options. Give this place a try and see what you think! We tried the items that were listed on a sheet like a sushi restaurant would list nigiri or rolls but these were different skewered meats and seafood. I ventured to try the spicy donuts chicken wings and spicy large prawn or shrimp and mushrooms. And I was pleasantly surprised. You would have these with beer sake or soju. Also the marinated beef galbi was very tasty. I wasn't too hungry so that filled me up but next time I'll try more and perhaps a tempura udon soup. It's an experience. To start off, the service is great! Getting seated didn't take long, so for those of you that's HANGRY and impatient waiting for their food this is the spot. Though we did go here at 9PM on a Wednesday night. Regardless, their service is still fast. Second, they have a call button for you when you're ready to order! I love the Bacon-wrapped asparagus and pajeon. In general, most of the food that we've tried are good (like the bulgogi, katsu, yakitori). The pork belly and beef kalbi yakitori taste really good (but may be heavily marinated for some people). The quality of the kalbi is better than the bulgogi (chewy and tough). The spicy pork belly yakitori is super spicy... flavor is good but too spicy for me, and I love spicy food. I am not a fan of their ramen either. Last night at Sojuya was like any other night we've had before: the food was fantastic and the drink deals are great. However, this moment at the end of our night changed our entire opinion about Sojuya. Now this is the third time my friends and I have been to Sojuya but that night will be our last. My friend with me at the time (who has spoken highly of your establishment and recommended it as a go-to spot to many of her friends) is too embarrassed to come back ever again. Why? Because one of your servers told her she is a frequent customer that does not tip enough (we do tip, but to them it just "isn't enough"). At the end of the evening, tipping is optional and completely under the discretion of the customer. He asked us if the service was bad. No, the service was fine, but he felt the need to ask for more money because they provided the expectation: decent service. So if you want to feel ashamed about how much you spend on gratuity, the staff at Sojuya will gladly let you know how ungrateful they are! read more

I was very impressed by Sojuya and I was pleasantly surprised the longer I stayed there. I liked the ambience of the whole place the moment I walked in. I was there with a group of 5 girls and we were seated in a booth in the furthest room. Our table was large and had enough space for all our food and drinks, unlike some places where they try to seat 5 people in a 4 person table. We were able to make ourselves comfortable and brownie points for the cute cat wallpapers!!! We ordered a few food items from a very large food menu, along with pictures of every item, which is helpful if you're not familiar Korean cuisine. We had the fried squid legs, Korean sausage, dduk boki, spicy seafood udon, and chicken gizzards. Everything was surprisingly delicious, which is usually not the case when I order food from a bar. The dduk boki was spicier than I expected and I was very happy about it. As with the food menu, their drink menu had a great variety as well. I ordered my usual large bottle of sake and beer pitcher ($14). The price is fair even though some other places may be cheaper. We also didn't go during happy hour so we paid for everything at the original price. I'll definitely come back during happy hour. The only thing I didn't enjoy that night was the Mojito Soju. It didn't taste like much was added to the soju besides mint extract or something. I was expecting mint leaves. It also reminded me of mouthwash/toothpaste so I wasn't a fan. Overall I had a great time at Sojuya and I'd recommend for groups to come and just hang out and have a few drinks. I had high hopes for this place cuz of the reviews. But their food is just alright, the flavors in my Dukbokki was bland, and the udon...well...I didn't see much in the pot.
