Not fond of this location, the staff is not friendly, the employee barely gave any eye contact, she was wearing a hat but didn't have her hair tied back, I thought food service needs to tie hair their back. The soft serve was flavorless, just sweet. We got taiyakis with black sesame, it was so bitter, someone in our party commented that it tasted burned. While we were eating another employee making the ahboongs was banging the machine violently trying to loosen the ahboongs, her coworker came out of the back to ask if she was ok, not ok, that's probably a $1000 machine! I have been coming here for years and never had a problem until today. We came in here for a quick sweet treat and were met with Fidel to take our order. He was rude and disrespectful. Ignoring us and talking bad about us in front of our faces to the other workers. To top off our bad service from Fidel, they gave us raw Taiyaki (picture provided). We then proceeded to tell Natalie, who was rude and dismissive. She told us that it was supposed to be like that. We have had this plenty of times and never had it ever been gummy, slimy, and sticky. The Ube ice cream at this place is absolutely delicious! Hands down the best Ube I've ever had! The flavor is spectacular. Unfortunately, that's the only positive thing I have to say... I have been to this location twice (tonight, as I'm writing, this review was my second visit) The first time the girl who was doing the toppings was so rude and so short with me, she kept talking over me asking me which topping I wanted, but I was trying to tell her that I did not want the waffle cone fish thing on top of the ice cream. She literally asked me what topping I wanted THREE different times, and every time it was at the exact same time that I was trying to tell her "please do not put the waffle cone on top of the ice cream" I finally just got so flustered I told her "I don't want a topping" and without pause I continued for the last time to say "please do not put the waffle cone on top of the ice cream" but literally as the words were coming out of my mouth, she shoved it on top of the ice cream and slammed the cup down on the counter. I looked right at her and said I asked you multiple times to not put the waffle cone on top of the ice cream??? Her response was "oh well""........... i realize it seems like a silly thing to complain about but she just went about it so rudely and how many times can you talk over someone ‍ Tonight when I went in, I couldn't help but notice how filthy dirty this place was. There was literally crumbs and scraps and pieces of baked goods everywhere. I even watched the girl (who was making some of the items) pick pieces off and throw them behind the machines. I guess it would be different if there wasn't clear glass? It was very aesthetically unpleasing. It doesn't look like anyone had wiped down any surface for hours. The grossest part was when I went to pick up my ice cream, the counter was so dirty with crumbs and ice cream (and who knows what else) it got all over the side of my hand when I was picking up my cup. Also, although the ice cream did still taste great, it was very melted tonight, not sure what that was about? Seems like some conversations need to be had not only about the condition and filth of this place, but the impression that it leaves when someone is standing in line and looking at your surfaces completely covered in crumbs and scraps and who knows what else. It's pure laziness on their part. The could've wiped their surface area clean in probably about 5 minutes, but the fact that they didn't is a little concerning. i can always rely on somisomi for my late-night sweet cravings!! can't go wrong with taiyaki and soft serve and i love that they're open late. they make taiyakis fresh to-order so they come out piping hot. i love that they're crispy and chewy on the inside! their soft serve is perfect and lactose-free as well (except for the milk flavor). check out their instagram for the swirls of the week! parked on the street at night so i didn't have a problem finding a spot. there's seats outside and a standing bar area for inside to enjoy your sweet treat. overall, love!! read more

When we saw this shop while walking around downtown Fullerton, it was hard to resist a treat, and some of that nice custard. The store is big, airy, clean, it has nice customer service and barely a line comparing to the one in Little Tokyo, there were barely a couple of people ahead of us. So this place is fairly new in Fullerton. I've always seen the ice cream in the fish but never saw any near me. So the other night I was craving something sweet and decided to stop by and check it out. The customer service was great, it was our first time and they were super helpful. They explained how it worked and about the different flavors of ice cream and fillings and you can even add toppings at the end!! I got the the AHBOONG which is the fishes shaped waffle cone with MATCHA SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM and I added some CAPTAIN CRUNCH to top it off. I LOOVE the matcha is was so creamy and sweet I def will go back for another!!!! My boyfriend tried the UPSIDE DOWN AHBOONG with is the cone in a cup with a STRAWBERRY COOKIES AND CREAM SWIRL AND HE ADDED FRUITTY PEBBLES to finish it off it was and an explosion of goodness in your mouth!!! Loved walking this neighborhood and slipping into this place to enjoy some Korean style soft serve after having some Italian or some other place we were craving. After a heavy BBQ dinner, we wanted to come and get some dessert. Never had Taiyaki and ice cream, so we decided to come and give Somisomi a try. This place was packed with people everywhere!! From kids and their parents to teenagers to adults, this is a treat for all ages. The smell of cooking waffles is definitely in the air. With the thick smell of chocolate and other sugary smells as well. It's very bright in here. You can see them cooking the taiyaki, as well as a bunch of taiyakis cooling by a fan as well as the ice cream maker and the toppings area. They have a pretty good assembly line, thus making the line and waiting for the finished product go by pretty quickly. I ordered their combo ice cream swirl of matcha and ube. With a taiyaki on top with custard inside and sprinkles and coconut flakes on top. The taiyaki on top was really good. Flaky and warm but still pillowy and soft inside. The custard added a sweetness that was subtle and not overpowering. The ice cream was also subtle in flavors. A little bitter from the matcha but some sweetness from the ube. Not to mention how pretty the presentation is!! The detail on the taiyaki was amazing!! You can see the fish scales, the fins, the eyes, the mouth, and the gills. Making it look as realistic as a fish waffle can be. You can order the Taiyaki by itself, which is a whole waffle fish enclosed with your choice of topping inside, takes about 15 min to make. Or you can have half a taiyaki (no eyes or lips, it's more of a half fish, see pictures) and ice cream which as I said comes out rather quickly. There are some long thin, high-top bar type tables you can stand at to enjoy your dessert. Which is actually quite nice too. Because you can people watch, eavesdrop into peoples' conversations as well as engage in your own conversations. And it also prevents you from eating ice cream outside in the cold!!
