So, it's been a LONG time and a lot has changed. They've moved to a new and bigger location. And I actually got to eat inside the restaurant this time. The food was good, though not great. The ambiance was fine, but loud. The service did NOT measure up though. We had a reservation, but weren't seated until 15-20 minutes after the reservation time. Then, our server was either not good or way overworked. She left after taking a few drink orders, and said she'd be back. Had to flag her down. She didn't write our orders down, and then messed some of them up. The side I ordered to share with the table (like an appetizer) didn't come out until after ALL the rest of the food. She never came back to refill coffees. The service really subtracted from the experience.
I think that Songbird suffers from a problem that many businesses have when they scale up: the personal connection is lost, and the food no longer tastes like it is made with love. I was very excited to try them but left knowing I would not return. I waited 40 minutes on a weekday morning for a bar seat for one, standing because all the waiting area seats were taken. The hostess/waitress was very nice when she got to me, but you could tell that the amount of customers was simply too much to handle. Now, this was okay - I should have made a reservation, and it's not the staff's fault they were overwhelmed. However, the service once I sat down was patchy, delayed and distracted. I had to remind different servers of my presence, multiple times. I was willing to overlook this if the food had been fantastic, but unfortunately, their most popular item, the combo breakfast sandwich, was so incredibly heavy. The first bite was crispy, oily and fatty deliciousness, but by the third bite it was simply too rich. The sweet overtone of the honey was lovely but did not cut through the grease. By the time I finished half, I understood why several diners had left the other half uneaten. My personal preference is for a fresh, umami yet balanced sandwich that does not make me feel queasy after finishing it. This was not the sandwich for me. There was a long delay after I finished eating for them to bring me the check. My whole meal took around 2.5 hours. I had arrived starving and, I like to think, with an open mind. These are my honest, unfiltered observations. It is wonderful that so many people want to try their food and that their new space is bigger. Their decor, glassware and menu were cute and tasteful. I also love that they grew from a farmers market food stall and that they source their ingredients locally. With their level of popularity, I think they should focus on preserving the quality of their service and food.

Would go 2.5 if could. Had a reservation but waited 15 minutes to be seated. Nice airy decor. Food choices for brunch were unique, included some nice gf items. A bit pricey for a piece of gf cake with some canned berries and a dollop of whipped cream on top, but some good food choices and cocktails. Service was prompt once we were seated and food came out reasonably on time.
Checked out the new Songbird location and overall had a good experience. The new space is really big, though the parking lot is still pretty small, but plenty of street parking! We sat by the window and it was HOT. Like sweating-through-brunch hot. The rest of the restaurant seemed cool and comfortable, so maybe just avoid that area if it's sunny out. Food was good overall. I liked the chicken sausage and the signature sandwich. I also got the seasonal maple iced latte, it was a little more savory than I was expecting, but still good. The carrot French toast didn't blow me away, I wasn't super impressed. Our waitress was very nice and attentive! No complaints One thing to note for parents: no high chairs, so just know that going into the experience! There'd benches against the walls, which they may be able to accommodate for you, if you call ahead
What a little gem in the tower grove area! We happened to walk in a little after 8am on a Sunday morning and were surprised to hear all the tables had a reservation, but we could sit at the bar....so we did. Note.....make a reservation! I started with the vanilla bean latte (iced) and my son and husband had the songbird latte (hot) both drinks were excellent. Full of flavor and as you can see from the pictures, the hot lattes had lovely art. For the main event, I had the Grassfed Beef Patty Melt (with a side of cheesy grits), while my son and husband had the Combo Breakfast sandwich. All I can say is YUM! everything was seasoned well, crispy and so enjoyable. One of the best parts of the menu viewing is the lower left corner to see all the local providers of the ingredients - love that!! The ambiance is cheerful meets retro. The hardwood floors and the bar as well as the accents around the bar definitely retro. But the walls were a bright yellow and so cheerful! The service was very nice, we had our coffees first then had a chance to enjoy them before our main courses came out. Run dont walk....and as a second endorsement, my husband and son summarized our visit by saying.....I would love to have that again.
Super cute breakfast spot! Make sure to make a reservation! It's busy on Saturday mornings, but the service is amazing! I loved the Matcha but my husband is not a fan of Blueprint coffee which is what they serve. The food was good.
What an amazing brunch experience. Love the quirky ambience and the limited menu . Also love the fact that the menu has several gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options . There is a parking lot , which is great because street parking is tough near that location. The service was amazing . Friendly , informative and non intrusive . My friend and I both got the farm toast with seasonal fruit jam (strawberry -yum !) I tried the beet mocktail and my friend had hot chocolate. Both great . Can't wait to be back .
This eclectic art forward brunch spot might be hard to get a reservation for but there is a reason for that! The bright nature forward interior is the perfect vibe for an upscale brunch with friends! Everything on the menu has locally sourced ingredients and the information to each farm and supplier. It was our first time here but I truly think you couldn't go wrong with anything you order because of the attention to detail the staff gives to each dish. The seasonal carrot cake farm roast was truley delectable and one of a kind! Our waitress was lovely but we did have to stand and wait for our table for nearly 30 minutes despite having a reservation. If you are looking for a bright sunny restaurant in St. Louis this is your spot!
I love the original Songbird so I was a little nervous coming to the new location, you know how it is when a place expands, you always hope nothing changes. Happy to report it did not disappoint! The new spot is so much bigger, lots of seating and a spacious layout. We did a walk in for brunch so we knew going in there'd be a wait and ended up on the waitlist for about 45 minutes. The food is just as good! The menu is short and simple so it makes it easy to work your way through the whole thing over a few visits. The drinks are also yummy! Cocktails, coffee, or tea definitely give them a try. The staff is always so efficient and friendly too, you can tell they have it together even when it's slammed. If you haven't been, go. If you loved the original, you'll love this one too.
Oh what a morning melody at Songbird on Morganford... From the moment our party of four settled in by the window, the whole brunch felt like stepping into a charming little café tucked somewhere along a London street. Maybe it was the soft light, maybe it was the tea... but truly, it felt like a page from a storybook. Our wonderful waiter, Twaon, was nothing short of magical -- attentive, kind, and always appearing at just the right moment like a friendly note in a perfect song. The cocktails were bright, balanced, and absolutely on point. I chose a loose-leaf tea from The London Tea Room, and when that personal pot arrived -- warm, elegant, and refilled without even asking -- I was completely enchanted. What outstanding service! As for the food? A symphony of comfort and flavor. I savored the patty melt, paired with the most delicious pickled onions that danced across every bite. My husband enjoyed the breakfast sandwich, hearty and satisfying. Our friends sang praises for both the patty melt and a beautiful breakfast bowl crowned with sunny eggs. And the finale? A frozen yogurt and granola sandwich -- light, dreamy, and utterly divine, like the sweetest closing chorus. Songbird isn't just brunch... it's an experience that hums with warmth, charm, and a little bit of magic. If you find yourself longing for a cozy, whimsical escape -- follow the music and land here. I know I'll be back to sing its praises again.
First time going to their new space and it is absolutely gorgeous. It's so cozy and cute with rustic charm, I love it!! As always the service and food was excellent. I had a matcha latte and the classic combo breakfast sandwich! I really like their matcha lattes here and their combo breakfast sandwich is to die for! Overall it's always a great experience here and I hope I'm able to come back soon!
I went here for a brunch with a friend and although it is not traditional diner food it is a healthier but delicious take on it. I got a sandwich with egg, honey and bacon and it literally was the perfect blend of salty and sweet. Felt like a hangover cure. The coffee cake is more of a coffee loaf it's got good spice but don't expect fluffy and super sweet; the chai was good nothing super different from a decent chai. Our waiter was also extremely friendly and quick, the space was warm and inviting and is a great place to catch up with friends. Maybe make a reservation as it is popular.

This place is my nirvana. Excellent, thoughtfully prepared food that is freaking delicious. Sustainable and local. It is all the things. I highly recommend the English muffin and the salmon rye toast, and everything is even better (at least for me) for some of the fermented sriracha. Amazing experience. The version of toast served (Farm Toast) was the best toast I've ever had. The flavors were sublime and the bread was the perfect texture (and gluten free)! The breakfast sandwich (Sprouted Grain English Muffin) was quite tasty as well. The side order of grits was very well done. To top it off, they serve the best coffee in STL (Sump). Was really looking forward to trying Songbird because of the plethora of good reviews, but unfortunately had a not-so-great experience dining with them for the first time today. My main complaint was with the waitlist and seating system. I completely understand that brunch places are super busy on the weekend and that, with a small place like this, there will be a wait. When we (party of 2) got there at 9 AM, the hostess said there would be a "small wait of 15 minutes" and told us to take a walk and come back. We were back promptly at 9:10 and waited around until 9:20. When we weren't called in at 9:20, we went back to the hostess stand to see if our table was ready and she said it would be ready in "just 2 more minutes." Well, long story short, we weren't seated until 9:40 and in the meantime, the hostess sat multiple other parties, including one group of 2 that walked in without a reservation and got into an outdoor table without any wait. When we voiced our frustration, the hostess said that she assumed we were waiting for an indoor table and that's why we weren't seated first- however, she never asked if we wanted to sit indoors or outdoors so why would she assume that. And regardless, she should've been honest about the wait time and not told us it would be "a short wait" or "2 more minutes" when it clearly wasn't. If we had known it would be 40 minutes to begin with, we would've just left and tried to come back on a less busy day. Moreover, the hostess is often not at the stand, which makes checking in on the status of your table very difficult. Our waiter actually heard about the issue with our wait and apologized and offered for our drinks to be on him, which was very kind, but he should not have had to do that since the onus should've been on the hostess and it was her wrong to make right. The food was okay, but the experience was just very unpleasant. A basic breakfast sandwich surely won't make me look past lacking service. I don't recommend their classic sandwich- it's something anyone can make at home. The English muffin sandwich is better since it has the omelette-style egg, but it is overly greasy and the aioli is extremely sour and doesn't go well in the sandwich. The only thing that is making me give 2 stars is the generosity of our waiter and the lattes, which were good. read more

Service was exceptional. Staff was so polite while waiting to be seated, and served us coffee in the meanwhile. Food was also delicious. Wasn't expecting the toast to be so dessert-like but was a welcome surprise. Would recommend ordering something savory as well. The lox was on a different type of lighter bread, would have preferred a bagel in all honesty, but still good. Ambiance was on point, the place is freaking adorable. read more

After hearing so many members of the St. Louis Yelp community sing the praises of Songbird, I finally flew over to see what this trendy Grove locale had to offer. Passing by a few times on the weekend, I knew that getting a seat inside is quite the task, so when my friend Jamye visited we made a date to grab a bite during the week when there wouldn't be such a long wait. Upon walking into Songbird I was immediately greeted with amazing aromas of fresh coffee and sizzling breakfast treats. The decor is like an Instagram curated experience. So trendy. So modern. I wanted to take selfies in every corner of Songbird because it was so pretty. Sitting at the counter, we were immediately given menus and waters by an incredibly friendly member of the Songbird staff. It was next to impossible to order because I was starving and each menu item sounded like what I was hungry for. While Songbird is well known for their breakfast sandwich, I was called by the breakfast tamale. But then I also saw they had grits. So I ordered that too! The coffee was from Sump, so I don't even really have to mention how incredibly tasty it was (ope, guess I just did!) There was a slight wait for food, but once it came I was really impressed by the bold flavors. The tamale was soft and featured tender, moist meat. The grits were grits. But kind of what my stomach needed after a slightly debaucherous night the previous evening. Jamye love his breakfast sandwich and I was kind of bummed he didn't share. But that gives me the perfect reason to go back soon! read more

If half stars were allowed, I'd be at a 3.5, but I'll round up. I enjoy the vibe and aesthetic of the place. I appreciate how they are community-focused. Where they lost points, was how small my latte was. I understand higher prices because of locally sourced ingredients, but this is the smallest coffee I've ever seen. It was tasty tho! I ordered the Sprouted Grain English Muffin - which was good, but it was so messy and not the easiest to eat with a fork an knife. However, I would definitely give them another chance. read more

Make a reservation. This was the first time I've dined here after hearing one positive review after another. Let me say, they did not disappoint. An extremely friendly staff in a beautiful space and delicious food; what more could you ask for? Our server was lovely. She even brought over a complimentary lemon pound cake, which was also delicious. I ordered the lox on the bialy, however it was served on an everything bagel. Things happen and it was a minor detail. Everything else about the experience was so perfect, I know it this seems knit picky. Whatever, it was delicious. Regardless. The actual space is gorgeous--lots of light, high ceilings, beautiful art and decor-- so inviting. The food is delicious with so many veggie options (people you MUST try the coconut milk grits!!) Charming and cozy breakfast spot. To start, the staff of this small restaurant were great and worked as a seamless team and made the small indoor dining room very pleasant. They have a small outdoor patio to the right of the main entrance. For dine in you enter down the gangway on the left into a side door. Dani my waitress was so pleasant, when I explain this was my first visit she offered to walk me through Songbird's small but excellent menu. The songbird latte was to start with the Sump pound cake. That alone could have been my breakfast. The coffee jelly and pound cake went great together. The cheese grits are not what I expected, after a few years in NC, I expected the traditional white grits. These were much creamier and tasted great. The sprouted grain English muffin was complex, the textures and flavor profiles were very enjoyable. The pickled onions added a unique flavor at the end of each bite. The English muffin really made this dish. The table next to me had the French toast with berries. Looked incredible. If you are looking for an upscale coffee/breakfast spot in STL this is a must. We wanted to try this place because we absolutely loved Kounter Kulture, a place previously run by the Songbird proprietors. Our wait for Sunday brunch was about 30 minutes. While waiting, we hung around the grounds which includes a little raised garden (whose iris rhisomes should NOT be buried in mulch!!!) and a beehive! The woman who seated us looked exhausted but was very pleasant. The menu is small but what we ordered was yummy: English muffin, Caesar salad, patty melt, grits, and Affogato to end the meal. The ingredients are all very quality and our table argued over whether things were slightly overpriced. We all agreed on 4 stars, though. Service was attentive and the interior is cozy. read more
