Had lunch here during the workweek and overall enjoyed my experience. The inside of the restaurant was unique and sophisticated and the sushi was well prepared and delicious. Would be nice to see a couple more sushi options but understandable to have less choices for a lunch menu. I'm new to Detroit and can confidently say that Soraya is my go-to sushi place. I dined in here with a group of co-workers and we all had a smattering of cocktails/wine/mocktails. I had my usual glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and it was light and crisp, just as expected. For apps to share, we got edamame, shishito peppers, and gyoza. The edamame had more of a kick to them than the shishito peppers which was an interesting take. For dinner, I had the miso soup, which was not listed on the menu at that time but I had stalked the menu online prior to going and saw it on there -- fortunately, they were able to accommodate my request, highly recommend, and the spicy tuna roll. I've had many spicy tuna rolls and would say Soraya's is very good especially when paired with wasabi+soy. I have since picked up sushi here and the to-go process was a breeze. Other perks about this place -- coat check, upscale ambience good for all sorts of dinners (business/date/girls night), and appropriately priced. read more

I ordered the shrimp dragon roll which was suggested by my server and was very pleased, I also ordered the chicken gyoza and chicken fried rice (which wasn't on the menu but they accommodated and made this for me). Wonderful hidden gem in the Federal Reserve Building. Parking was simple/validated. Everyone was so friendly - bar manager was extremely knowledgeable and was able to choose/craft drinks to your liking. The food was delicious, very generous portioning. The whole restaurant was relatively quiet, with comfortably dimmed lighting. Extremely impressed and satisfied - cannot wait to visit again. read more

Just left Soraya and couldn't get out of there fast enough. The bartender tried to push a terrible $20 bottle of wine--apparently because they're desperate to offload old inventory. I ordered six items and asked for them to be spaced out, but four hit the table at once within 10 minutes. I had to stop the food runner from dumping the rest right after. The bartender was useless and clearly had no clue about food and beverage. They're operating like a place that's packed and needs to turn tables fast--but it was far from busy. We came expecting a high-end date night and left totally disappointed. Won't be back, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

This was my first time trying this place, and I was seriously impressed. The octopus skewers were tangy, juicy, and savory in every bite. The Asian sea bass was creamy and incredibly flavorful. It practically melted in my mouth, with a velvety texture and seasoning that didn't overpower the natural richness of the fish. The Sengoku Roll had just the right balance of flavors, where nothing overwhelmed anything else. Can't wait to come back! read more

Came for lunch. Got the $25 udon set. I was surprised to see it came with a tempura appetizer too in addition to the nigiri. The tempura broccolini was especially good, as was my nigiri. Loved the matcha tiramisu and the chicken katsu the most. Drinks were tremendous across the board. Lobster croquette was a nice addition too. Okinamoyaki was a bit octopus forward for my personal preferance,, and similarly the udon was a bit heavy on the onions, but overall very pleased with our time and experience. Waiter was frazzled. Appetizers came before drinks. Never refilled our water or asked if we wanted another cocktail. Both entrees we requested were unavailable. Out of udon noodles (three dishes have udon noodles). Told we had an old menu when tried to order branzino. Gyuza was good as was tempura broccoli. Pork was fatty. Sushi roll was ok-very rich. Wish they had kept the crispy rice from Black Ginger. And seriously need to work out their menu offerings and wait staff. read more

Ordered the Nagasaki Champon and the King Salmon Roll. I'm part Japanese and have been to Japan 20 times and have been to most Japanese restaurants in metro Detroit Reason for 2 star review: 1. The Nagasaki Champon is very very American style. The broth is 50% heavy cream, and although it's supposed to be a little bit rich, the broth is about 5x fattier and thicker than it's supposed to be. The heavy cream was about 70% of the flavor. This is one of my favorite dishes in Japan, and I only ate about 10% of it, it was so bad. 2. The Sushi grade itself was fine, but it was not cut very well. The sushi chefs here are not very skilled. 3. The price point is rather high, but the food is low quality. I would have given this place 3 stars instead of 2, if it was 2/3rd of the price. read more

Ate dinner on Valentine's Day at soraya. About $90 pp, pre paid for a pre fixe menu that everyone else got as well. The food was good (but not great). The service was a DISASTER. It was Super slow, on multiple occasions, we were presented with food items out of order that the servers then took away. At one point When asked what we were waiting on, we stated we were waiting on the second course and after a long delay, we were served the third course...when we said we hadn't gotten the second course we waited even longer and then had to make additional requests to get the second course. We were 2 hrs into a 5 course meal and still hadn't received the 3rd/4th/5th courses. multiple tables near us were obviously having similar issues. Management clearly bit off more than they could chew. There was zero coordination between the kitchen and the servers. The servers were trying hard but they were in over their heads. Would probably not go back until they have some time to refine their service. read more
