Really bad customer service. Stopped in with 8 friends around 11 pm for drinks and staff actually pulled a chair out from under our friend. I get it that they transform the bar area, but we must have arrived at that transition time and he actually fought her for her seat because it was now a bar and he wanted the bar seats removed. Our group of 8 decided to leave and he continued to be rude as we walked out. Never EVER would spend our time or money here. read more

I've been to this place on and off for several years now and always have a great meal. I usually sit at the bar and order a couple of apps as my meal and am always happy. My wife loves the shrimp and grits and I am always a fan of their muscles which have a broth that you could dip bread in forever. I wish they'd bottle it. The service can sometimes be a little slow and the tuna tartare I had last night was delicious but the potato chips they served it with were greasy and totally not compatible with the tartare. read more

I have been here multiple times with my family and it is literally one of the best restaurants in Fairfield. Everything is clean and organized, the staff is phenomenal and the food is absolutely DELICIOUS! I recommend getting the seared tuna and the Brussel sprout salad. The pricing is as you expect it's comfortable for food that tastes like it's from heaven. You will not be disappointed, believe me. I really don't understand how people can be complaining about the food. It's delicious! The service is awesome and the restaurant itself is beautiful. How could you complain about that? Kind of a disappointung night out. Love the location and idea of 55 but it took too long to get a cocktail and while we were waitibg, we had the disconcerting experience of vibration from the kitchen on the floor below our table. We had actually experienced this on a prior visit but had forgotten - and were not advised by our waiter about this unpleasantness. Appetizers were very good - beet salad and the crab cake. We each ordered steak - the shell and the filet mignon. Neither was prepared to requested temperature and the strip looked great - generous and charred but raw inside and probably the toughest steak I've ever had - encased in heavy gristle. Must have been a bad night. Wish we had let them know about the steaks - would have been better for all... Anyway, dessert - profiteroles - was amazingly good! Well go back and choose our entrees more wisely next time. Oh - and my Miller Lite or Coors Lite husband would have preferred one of those to Bud light! Food was not as expected. My husbands veal was dry with almost no sauce. My lobster sauce was mainly shrimp with teared pieces of lobster. The lobster looked gross and I couldn't eat it. Appetizer meatballs were so so. Service was great though. read more

The food is exactly what we wanted. Calamari was outstanding. Steak was perfect. Service was top notch and responsive. Wine selection was broad and what we drank we liked. Most important I want to say how honest they are. I left my briefcase there. It was fully intact. They called. A well-needed place in downtown Fairfield! A good mix of wine bar with apps, or restaurant with a great menu. The dishes aren't terribly inventive, but the quality and prep is done well. Went with a group of 10 and the service was VERY GOOD. Our waiters were very attentive. Wine list was good and the prices were pretty reasonable, however...the portions were very small for the price. Food was average. I wouldn't recommend the bar unless you are looking for an "older" date. Music at the bar was lame. read more

Place is cute, drinks good and food not bad. I have to give only 2 stars though because of service. Wait staff was fine and bartenders pour a great drink but friend and I sat down for dinner and we apparently didn't order fast enough. It's a Thursday night and we ordered 3 apps and at least 3 $9-12 drinks. However, because we didn't order entrees right off the bat (told them we were going to hold onto a menu to order more), the staff decided to come by and basically push us from or table by telling us these tables were for "eating patrons only". Well not only had we eaten and we're planning to eat more, but I have never been pushed out of a table, especially when paying $12 per drink and having apps. We decided that this place wasn't worth our time or money and decided to spend our money for dinner and rest of our drinks elsewhere. Will not likely be back. Like to spend my time out eating, enjoying and socializing, not concerned about whether or not I'm "holding up" a table while spending my money on multiple courses (and not to mention drinks!) read more

My wife and I went there on Saturday May 13th with another couple. I had been to 55 several times recently (for drinks and apps) since it reopened and many more times while it was the old 55. While the service was very good and attentive the food was absolutely horrible. The owners of this place have clearly figured out that the money in the restaurant business is in the alcohol and would much rather have a raging club than a high end restaurant. Very unfortunate because its a very charming restaurant but you actually cant have a conversation with the others at a 4 top table after 9:30 because the club version of the restaurant takes over. Anyway, maybe a good spot for a drink off the train during the week but if you're looking for a good meal - bring your taste buds and your wallet somewhere else!!! read more

Absolutly one of the best resturants Fairfield has to offer. Having been there prior to new ownership, I notice the craftman ship put into rebuilding such a historical building. I was greeted like i was one of there family members. Such friendly people work there, not to mention attractive. The food is amazing. Lots of homemade and i mean, made that day pastas. They have a great steak with a ravioli stuffed with mashed potatoes and an egg, so fun. Seafood, must try the scallops, and they make a mean chicken. Can you tell i've been there more than once. I'd say if your not into loud, but want great food and great service, go on a week day. Weekends gets crowded and busy but why wouldn't it. read more

I went here early Saturday evening to have a drink with my wife and ended up having dinner there. The espresso martini was delicious and a work of art. We ordered the asparagus and mozzarella appetizer and loved it. It is like a single layer of eggplant parmigian, but with breaded asparagus instead of the eggplant. Grilled calamari was also fantastic, but the sauce was a little rich. Great cheese tortellini. House bread was also delicious, and I was pleased with the complimentary Greek olives at the bar. A horrible experience. They need a chef and new management. I ordered the halibut and it tasted very fishy. Three of us ordered the special, the halibut, and put two together and you had the size of a normal entree. I couldn't find the waiter and ordered a bottle of Chardonnay at the bar. We received the wine, I tasted it quickly and poured it for the guests and everyone agreed that the bottle was bad. I called the waiter back and he said that the reason that he poured it to taste was that to make that decision, not later. Little food, served poorly, tasting worse, with prices that don't match anything that they are doing. Don't go. read more

Got to this restaurant at 7:30 on Sat night. Table on the 3 floor. Waiter came over and we ordered wine and apps. Bread also came to te table. It was stale and hard. By 8:30 tables around us were getting food and we had still not received our apps. I told the matitre de we had not received apps after 1 hour and we thinking of leaving. Rather than try and help and offer to see what was taking so long, he told us we could leave if we wanted and our drinks were on the house. He walked away without an apology. We left. read more

AWFUL! Yes the wine is cheap on Mondays but the service is ridiculously awful. Was my wife's birthday, I asked the host if they could put a candle on the dessert but I was told i had to ask my server. I said I am trying to be discrete and again was told I need to tell my server. My server was on planet Mars. Took 3 tries to get a plain bowl of penne with just butter for my daughter. He actually argued with me telling me there was no cheese or pepper on the pasta. 3 times for a $12 bowl of penne. I had a Cesar salad which consisted of brown lettuce and anchovies. I had ordered the salad with out anchovies. I also had the hanger steak which was served with cold soggy fries and a chimichury sauce that was mostly garlic and had no flavor. Steak must have been sitting out for some time because it was also cold. Waiter was MIA most of the meal. I got up at one point and went to speak to the manager. He was rude and really didn't care. I said to him many times that I really can't believe that this is your reaction. At the end of the meal the waiter tossed the bill on the table without bringing the dessert I order. I was told that he was not our waiter and he would have to confirm my order. The guy was totally on another planet. Will never go back again. Was supposed to be a nice night out with my kids and wife to celebrate in stead it was an pricey awful meal. Called the next day to speak to someone else who also didn't care one bit. My advice is stay away. So many better places to eat in Fairfield. read more

I hosted my daughters baby shower this past weekend at 55 Wine Bar & Wood Grille. Right from the start I knew I was in good hands with Patty, she communicated with me in a timely manner, was helpful with the menu choices,and was as excited as I was for this event. When we arrived the tables were set up just as we discussed so it was easy to put our personal touches, flowers, balloons etc...The staff was exceptional, anything we wanted they were there to accomodate us. The food was awesome and the servers got it all out so that everyone was eating at the same time. I would highly recommend 55 for your next party event...it was outstanding!!!!! Started out quite well. The grilled calamari used to be good as was the seafood in general, but the last couple of visits the quality and preparation have really fallen off. Dishes have arrived undercooked only to be microwaved upon complaint. Service has really been spotty and snooty lately as well. The handling of the wines has gotten to be comical, bartenders mixing two different wines in one glass when a bottle runs out. This happened to us and others on the same visit. Had dinner there last night. The squash flowers were not only the smallest ones I have ever been served, they were a bit too greasy. The wild bass for my main course was over cooked...perhaps left way too long under the heat lamps and the wild mushrooms only meant 2. Really? Location has great access to the Fairfield MetroNorth train as it is walking distance. It is a beautifully place with great outdoor seating. Came here on a Saturday night and after 10PM the DJ comes on to place a variety of music. It was a great crowd. So why does this location gets 3 stars? If you are thinking of coming here to have dinner and stay for the party which I did it is better to grab dinner elsewhere. The food was plain and flavorless. Ordered the shrimp scampi and several shrimps were not thoroughly cooked and for the price you are paying you hope to get more food. Overall would come back for drinks the nightlife but not really the food. read more

My FAV place:) the steak tartare is the best in Fairfield County- HANDS DOWN. We love this place so much we are using the venue for our rehearsal dinner in June:) We have become regulars and find ourselves back there every weekend for some great food. What took us so long to find this gem? My husband and I dined here for the first time during Fairfield Restaurant Week and we loved it. It was crazy busy but the service was perfect. We went back again a few weeks later and had another wonderful dining experience. I had the Butternut Squash Panzotti...wonderful! My husband had the carbonara and enjoyed that as well. Their extensive wine list has many excellent choices. Reservations are recommended as the place seems to have a great following although if you arrive without a reservation the hostess will do her best to accommodate you. Dinner with friends. We all felt the service and food is not up to par. Apps goat cheese and figs, grilled octopus were 2 stars. In addition the presentation of the octopus was unappetizing, kind of just thrown on the plate in some sauce. Dinner veal ravioli another paste and lamb chops. The lamb chops were very good. That enabled me to give 3 stars, otherwise it was 2. Service was lacking. We finished the apps and it took 20 minutes for someone to clear. Didn't have desert. read more

Went to this restaurant recently with a group of friends. The atmosphere and service were fantastic. The food varied depending on what you ordered. My halibut had clearly been frozen for a while and I could taste the water content. My friend had the lamb which I thought was delicious. I think everyone was pleased with the pastas although I thought, the butternut squash ravioli (called something else) was way too sweet. Would still try it again as the prices were reasonable for the atmosphere and you could have a great meal if you order the right things. read more

Gets very crowded and I I wish they had more sectioned off areas for private parties because it's annoying sitting at a table next to 20 college kids talking stupid when you want a relaxed quiet atmosphere to et in peace. Food was good except salads are overpriced for what you get. Also, discovered later that because we were a large party they automatically added on a gratuity of 20% to the bill which is ok, however it was based on the total bill which included the sales tax.
