Went here for the first during restaurant week and it did not disappoint. You got an appetizer, meal and dessert for the special deal. I got the Caesar salad for my appetizer and I have to say it's one of the best I've had in a really long time. The dressing is exactly what I look for, creamy and not too anchovy tasting, it was delicious. For my meal I got the chicken piccata which was also great. This is probably my favorite meal and I was not disappointed. It was perfectly lemony, and they gave plenty of capers which is a plus in my book. For dessert I had the Nutella crepes which were amazing. It came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream which also tasted better than just your average store bought variety. I had two of their bay breeze cocktails which were very heavy on pineapple which I really enjoyed. The drinks are pricey though so beware, $12-$13 each. This review is based on two separate visits... #2-Grabbed some quick drinks before dinner reservations at another restaurant close by. Greeted right away by the hostess & our bartender. Prompt & friendly service, attentive to our drinks being refreshed. Other staff weren't as pleasant as this bartender, almost looked like they didn't want to be there. Decor & bar are on point as well as an outside patio filled. Overall, pleased with this visit! #1-Came here later on a Saturday night for a bachelorette party...was busy when we walked in & there was a DJ starting to play. Bartenders weren't the most pleasant, but not terrible. Drinks were good! In a blink of a eye the dance floor was packed! Good mix of music earlier in the night & crowd was appreciating the variety....at this point the place was swamped! Do you ever read some reviews and wonder, 'Did they go to the same place we just went to??' I waffled a bit between four and five stars and decided on five after four excellent experiences at 55. When an offer was made for a free dinner, I jumped at it. I also jumped at the suggestion of going to 55. It's a particularly good choice on Sunday and Monday nights since they have a prix fixe menu for $29 with 40 percent off all wine bottles. This might be a good option for people who complain about waiting too long as it's much less crowded on these nights. We started off with the caprese salad and the stuffed squash blossom. The mozzarella is handmade and delicious along with fresh tomatoes and a light pesto sauce. The blossom was stuffed with cheese and served along with sliced zucchini. It was flavorful and probably the first time this dish lived up to the hype when I first heard about stuffed squash blossoms on NPR a few years ago. The halibut was prepared perfectly and served over sauteed spinach and topped with a corn salsa. The pasta was panzerotti stuffed with butternut squash like a ravioli and had a nice (but not cloying) sweetness. Dessert included mango sorbet as well as profiteroles served with ice cream and chocolate sauce, both of which were good, although the profiterole pastry could have been a bit fresher. Dining at 55 is enjoyable with its two level dining area above the bar. It's tastefully decorated and very open with a two-story ceiling. Complimenting the space is the professional service, which is attentive without being intrusive. Even on a very busy night during restaurant week, I thought the wait staff did not miss a beat. After trying it during restaurant week, I always wondered why I had not heard more about 55 as it's certainly better than a lot of other places around. The 1/2 dozen bartenders are gracious and on the ball! I like that! We just sat @ the bar which is at street level but one feels as if they are in the basement- its just darker & the walls are a wine color w great vaulted ceiling, but there are nice French doors on the far wall w a view of the Ffld train station. We enjoyed the communal olives which were complimentary and quite good. Also we shared fisher island oysters, bloody mary granita, grey w goose- nice. My three friends and I came here on a Thursday night. Parking is at the train station, but signs everywhere say "permit required" or "no parking." It was exasperating figuring out where to park. We ended up parking wherever we could find a spot and decided we'd deal with the consequences later. Luckily we were not ticketed. Maybe those signs were for morning commuters? We walked up a few steps to another room, the dining area. Very pretty! Shelves & shelves of wine bottles were on display, making it really look like a wine bar. The wine list was not disappointing! Two of us shared a Pinot Noir, "Four Graces," and it was delicious. The other two shared a Pinot Grigio and they loved it. For an appetizer, two friends and I had the tuna tartare, and it was perfect. Loved the house chips it came with and the avocado accompaniment was great! My other friend had the shaved Brussels Sprouts salad and said it was fantastic! No complaints with our appetizers! Three of us ordered the Seared Sea Scallops and we loved it! The cauliflower purée and mushrooms complemented the scallops nicely. It was delicious. ! My other friend opted to have another appetizer as her entree. She had the steamed mussels. It was basic, but she enjoyed them. After we finished our meal, we noticed the bar area was really crowded and the music was loud! There was a DJ and people dancing and a fun crowd. Bad experience. Ordered drinks, oysters and apps. Drinks came out. Then apps and oysters all came out together. Tuna Tar Tar came out and the avocado was obviously old, had oxidized and was brown. The lobster bisque came and you could smell it as soon as it left the kitchen. Had a racid smell and a deep brown color. Took one taste and knew it was bad. Sent that back. Then the oysters came, not cleaned well and v. gritty. Grabbed a check and had dinner elsewhere. Server JD was on it, embarrassed and apologetic. Not much he could do when the food was so awful. As I'm not the everyday Yelper, you know this is either going to be really good or really bad...I visited 55 on Saturday May 13. Food: Mediocre at best. My girlfriend and I both ordered the filet. The menu online said it was supposed to be a 16oz bone-in serloin. In reality, it was a 6 oz petit filet. They either need to update their online menu or indicate the real size and cut on the printed menu. It was topped with a weird almost bbq sauce...confusing. The sautéed spinach and broccoli rabe were both undercooked and under seasoned. The potatoes were comparable to breakfast potatoes from your standard diner, not the kind you expect with a steak, but they tasted good. Drinks: Terrible. Nothing on their cocktail list conforms to classic specs or looked appetizing enough to take a chance on. So I ordered a gin martini. Big mistake. The server didn't stand around long enough to let me tell him if I wanted a particular brand or not, and I had to call him back to clarify and let him know that my girlfriend also wanted a drink. 10 minutes later, my martini arrives WARM and GARNISHED WITH A LIME. A warm martini...garnished...with a lime. Service: Slow, inattentive, uninformed. Not rude on purpose, just probably received zero training, and it shows. I still tipped heavy and in cash. Ambiance: The place is beautiful. I like the redesign. Music was way too loud during dinner service. Too loud to hear somebody talk across the table. THE WORST PART: Saturday was a cold rainy night, and I decided to wear a hat. I walked into the restaurant wearing my hat. I was seated while wearing my hat. And, I continued wearing my hat through dinner. I know, not exactly the most prim and proper move, but like I said, it was cold and raining. My hair was a mess. After our meal, I still had a half full drink, and my girlfriend wanted to stay for another drink in the bar area, down stairs. There was a great party vibe going on with a DJ (but now I'm slightly confused whether this place is a restaurant, supper club, or wannabe night club). As I walked down the stairs, I was grabbed by security guard and spun around mid stair! He told me to take my hat off. He was polite in the way he asked, and I was polite back. I told him that I just spent nearly $200 on dinner had been wearing my hat the whole time. He told me he is just enforcing the rules. I asked him to speak to the manager. The manager came upstairs, looked drunk, refused to shake my hand, squared up with me and told me to remove my hat. He literally squared up and puffed his chest out as if we were going to fight. I couldn't believe it. This is happening at a restaurant in Fairfield, Connecticut?! I told him, that I had been there for nearly 3 hours, spent $200 on dinner and had been wearing my hat the entire time with no issue. He asked me if I was calling him a liar about the "no hat" policy. I said, "Not at all, but nobody told me on the way in or at any point during my 3 hour meal." He said, "Thank you for your business. Remove your hat or leave." I said, "Okay, I'd prefer to leave at this point." He said, "Well then you're a F***ing A**hole!" I couldn't believe it. I calmly put my unfinished drink on the bar and proceeded to the door. Halfway to the door, a different security guard grabs me from behind and tells me to take my hat off! Exercising every bit of restraint, I calmly told him that I'm on the way out. He said, "Would you mind removing your hat between here and the door?" (The door was 15 feet away). I said, "Yes, I actually would mind removing my hat between here and the door." Then this security guard calls me an A***hole and starts PUSHING ME through a crowd of people. You can't make this stuff up. I hope to God there is a security camera in the place that has this all on tape and records sound. What is this some dirty college bar that thinks they can physically push people around? I tried to just calm down and let this blow over, and I can't get over it. So here I am, turning to Yelp, something I don't really do much for good or bad reviews alike. Don't believe me? Click my profile. This restaurant turns into a club around 9:30. The bouncer was EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional. Didn't know what he was doing and filled the place beyond capacity. I went to get a drink and it took 20 minutes at least. I paid $20 for a vodka coke.... it was terrible as well. It was so packed I could barely move. We tried to leave then the fire department rushes in and kicks everyone out. They were completely over capacity and it was extremely dangerous but we couldn't even get out there was too many people! The food was very good on but the ambience was horrible. The wait staff was excellent; however, the manager was a very rude person that night. We were at a table for 4 near the stairway to an event room on the second floor. Our lovely meal was disrupted by a large crowd-approximately 50-of college age people waiting in line to get to their event. They were excited and loud which is understandable but it ruined our experience as we could not converse due to the noise and the queue was on top of us. We thought it would move quickly and be a minor annoyance but the line grew and never moved during almost 30 minutes of our dinner. The group in line was getting agitated as they wanted to move. Remarks like " We thought we rented the entire place" and "Why are we stuck in line" were loudly shouted by the group on queue which I cannot blame them. I looked to find the manager as our dinner was so disrupted due to this scene to see if he could move the group along or our table. When I found him, he was very angry probably due to the stress. He kept referring to me as "Madame" and did not care about our bad dining experience or the queue getting longer invading our table. He said he did not care if I wrote a bad review or ever returned to this establishment. So here is the bad review and I would love to give this place a second chance but they don't care as business apparently so good they don't care about hospitality. read more

Went there for a special occasion. The drive was an hour. The service was great, no complaints. I ordered a special. We both ordered fish. We found that the fish nor sides had any flavor. It was as if it was a microwave dinner. The mahi was watery. There was no flavor. There's no way the chef has tasted either of these dishes. I'm not saying this to be crass, but I had a recent hospital stay, and I enjoyed the hospitals food more than this restaurant, which is now called South Bay. Thank god for the desserts. We stopped here before a concert across the parking lot. We were seated and offered drinks quickly. We also had bread a few minutes after that. The menu is varied, but I opted for the New York Strip steak. My wife had the Scallops. Both meals were phenomenal. My steak was cooked perfectly, and the sides were delicious. The portions were better than expected, and I left feeling that the meal was well worth the price. I'm not sure why the negative reviews. Many say that service was rude and/or slow. That was NOT our experience! I highly recommend this restaurant, and plan to return. My only criticism is that, perhaps, there should be some more, lower cost choices on the menu. Food arrived and underwhelming. Seems like it had some good ideas on menu but took almost an hour to get two entree pasta dishes after our salads. And then very minimal pasta and all sauce like a soup. Found the staff to be more attentive to each other, hanging out and socializing at the bar then the customers. Won't go back. Sat down, looked over menu. Waiter comes over, we order wine and put an order in for the Tomato and Mozzarella/Burrata Cheese Appetizer. Waiter comes back with the wine and we ask if we can also get the grilled calamari appetizer. He looks at me with a strange look. They pushed us in and out in an hour and fifteen minutes. Both appetizers came at the same time and took over the entire table. The waiter was very nice, but I think that there is a managerial problem here if you are hurrying people, when we did not take our time ordering. We were there to have a nice table, not to take over a 2 top the entire evening! Now, I am giving this a one star hopefully so the management can maybe one day see how ridiculous a situation I was in. My fiancee and I were not happy with being hurried when spending over $100 on a dinner. Also a one star, as I will never spend money here again. The food? 3.5 stars. The scallops were fantastic. The appetizers were delicious and the entrees mediocre. The server never once checked to see how everything was and then after desert tossed the check on the table. He was brash and swift - didn't answer any questions. Such poor service ruins a meal regardless of how good it is. We saw two other tables come and go because they were not being paid any attention. The patio deck is a nice place to sit. We shared the calamari and it was good. The halibut was nice - nothing extremely special and could've used more seasoning. This bar is open during COVID. Great doing happy hour super excited to get some drinks. Walk in only one other table in there, sweet. So, I'm sitting there with only two other people. Took 10 minutes to get menus, another 10 minutes to get drink order. Server ran away before we could put food in. No other servers in there while we were there but the two person table left. Near the end of our meal two other servers came in. One not wearing a mask, another with a mask no on there face but on there chin MAKING DRINKS, tell me this isn't concerning. I had been to 55 2 or 3 times prior for drinks, but had never tried their food, so we stopped in to give it a shot. We were seated right away in their outdoor patio, but I quickly realized we were in for a long night. After about 15 minutes our waiter appeared to take a drink order. Chalk up another 15 before food orders were written down. By the time we received our main courses (almost 2 hours later) my date and I were literally exhausted. I almost would have forgiven the whole thing (food was good when it eventually made its' way out, very busy Saturday night) but the waiter offered no apology or explanation, nor did he really check in to see how we were doing at all. I don't write a lot of reviews, but this was a rare time I actually left a restaurant feeling worse than when I got there. Our waiter was one of the most unprofessional servers I have ever encountered. We had a group of 6 and a few people couldn't decide whether they wanted wine or not and would deliberating back and forth while the waiter was taking the drink order, finally, one of our party asked for a wine menu and the waiter was disgusted by this and rolled his eyes and huffed out loud before walking away to retrieve the menu. When it came time to order the entrees, one person asked for their burger ($17, really???) to be well done, the waiter then proceeded to come over to my brother and I and tell us that our meals would be late arriving since it was going to take extra time to cook the burger well done..who says such a thing? Who is paying attention to whether it takes an extra five minutes to receive their food? Finally, the food...Lobster Pappardelle was overcooked and rubbery, Tuna steak also overcooked and absolutely void of any type of flavor, Red snapper tasted and smelled like it was 4 days old, oh well I guess my steak was Ok but how do you screw up a steak anyways..all in all I would not recommend this place at all read more

I ended up back here for a baby shower yesterday. It seems they've improved their waitstaff, since my previous visit/review. All of the waiters and waitresses were extremely friendly and eager to help and please. The menu was limited for the event, but what great options we got to choose from. I was very happy with everything I ordered ( 55 salad, eggplant rigatoni and Nutella crepes). Perhaps it was the fact that it was a Wednesday evening crowd, but I was certainly not impressed with the geezers chilling at the bar. More astonishingly was the limited wine by the glass menu. I thought wine bar and immediately thought I could choose between 50 -100 varieties and that was not the case at all. We snacked on both the tuna and steak tartar and neither was spectacular in fact i felt the tuna to be off in temperature. I will say - the service and the people were extremely attentive. The food is a bit pricey in my opinion for what you get and so are the drinks. I think the apps were way to small for the price including the cheese board. We ordered all four cheeses and even still the cheeseboard was relatively on the small side. Do not order the sliders. The sliders were micro sized. They are priced at like $12.
