I wasn't very impressed. They broke our table and didn't tell us, we discovered that on our own when we noticed the beam wasn't in properly. They also took one of our phone cords. A lot of our boxes were smashed when our stuff arrived. I probably wouldn't go with them again. read more

The guys just left from packing up my apartment at my current residence. They arrived on time, were courteous and friendly. They did a great job packing everything including furniture, and did so to ensure it would be well protected. I am taking off 1 star because they had to adjust my quote by almost $200 as they did not ask me the correct questions about my couch and it was bigger than what they quoted me for. Otherwise, the process so far has been good. My items are going into storage for a few months while my house is being built at my destination, so I am looking forward to seeing how the rest of the process and delivery on the other end in a few months goes. read more

Not so great with this company. Kelly came and gave us a $$$ figure that would not be exceeded. She is good at what she does and is a real positive for this company, but what actually happened was not what Kelly led us to believe. We were told that they would arrive between 8 and 8:30 AM but they didn't arrive until 10AM. Now I think that all moving companies probably work the same, but these movers took a long enough time so that they could not unload at the other end because nighttime came and they would not unload at night in the dark. I did not have electricity hooked up at my new residence due to a misunderstanding with the city of Lodi. The move was approximately 90 miles from Campbell California to Lodi California. It was understandable that they wouldn't unload in the dark at the other end, but they should have showed up earlier and I didn't think that a 2 bedroom townhouse would take that long to pack up. After calling Kelly she explained to me that no moving company would unload in the dark. Okay, so they held all our furniture overnight and ended up charging us much more than what we were quoted because of this. Also, we had mentioned to Kelly that we had at least 2 dozen green plants that we would like moved along with our furniture. Kelly said that would be no problem, but the crew leader Tomas told us that they could not load the plants and were out of room. They left most of them behind and I drove back and loaded them in my SUV. Also they had told us that it was either the plants or the refrigerator because the lack of loading space. All in all, I cannot recommend this company. We did like the friendly crew. read more

HA - goods never made it until 5 WEEKS later 21 of June. All they could say was "Ma'am did you sign the contract, if the sales rep said different thats an HR problem. I even asked that are they going to jack me at delivery. MJ said no ma'am. This is the price. Yep.... JACKED the price at delivery - cash only another $350. They should have given me money back for taking 5 weeks. I choose this company due to their rating which I truly believe is employee driven. False reviews. They are the horror story you read about. Wow!! We live on a hill in Mill Valley. This has to be one of the most difficult moves to achieve. There are about 100 steps from the trailhead to the house. It's difficult to navigate, much less to be careful and diligent with our furniture, boxes, etc. These guys, a team of four, Ricardo, Miguel, Juan, and Dale were right on time. They were conscientious, and methodical in their actions. A move that should have taken five hours easily, took three. I watched in awe as they maneuvered down the hill deftly. I have nothing but positive things to say about this crew. We researched a lot of companies for this move, but after talking with Mark, the sales manager, we were convinced that this was the way to go. I had a long move from CA To NC, called Spartan Van lines based on their reviews. Chabely asked for the inventory list and gave a pretty good quote . I requested for an in house estimate. Somebody at the office messed up with the appointment and I ended up staying home for an extra day waiting for someone to show up. Finally, Alex showed up and he gave me an updated quote & promised that the rates would not go up. I finalized my booking within a couple of days and requested for a Weekend pickup. Carlos sent his team (Andres & 2 others) for the pickup and they were right on time. They were courteous, polite and picked up everything. My pickup date was 09/25. I paid 50% at the pickup + tip. They promise a 14 Business day delivery. Exactly 9 days later, I got a call from Simon that he will be delivering my stuffs on 10/05. West coast to East coast in 10 days is totally cool. Simon was a 1 man army. He came alone and delivered everything. He was very friendly. I paid off the remaining 50% and paid some tip to Simon. I referred my friend and he booked it through Spartans. I was promised a $50 referral, I have no idea where it is at. It would have been a 5* for them otherwise. Pros: + Very good moving crew + Moving staffs are very friendly and polite + Rates + Timely delivery Cons: - Slow Email response - Couple of China clay trays were broken, but I wouldn't put it on them. read more

When the drivers first showed up there was a misunderstanding with the quote that was initially given. Apparently there was more stuff then anticipated. The driver called the dispatch and a supervisor immediately drove out to the pick up site to inspect. The supervisor and myself came to a reasonable compromise and everything got packed up a loaded on the truck. The crew was extremely courteous and helpful, (Argenis, Mario, and Javier) made sure that everything was properly wrapped, packed and load correctly. Those guys made it happen. The review is mixed: the pick up was good, the delivery - not that much. I chose Spartan Van Lines because the company has the best reviews compared to other moving companies that contacted me. Alex estimated the price, which was reasonable and firm though not the lowest but also not the highest (but again, you pay for the job quality - as people say: we are not that rich to spend money on cheap stuff). What I really liked that he was instantly available if there was any question (for example, changing of the moving date). On the moving day, Elmer's team (Antonio, Adam, Walter) came exactly on time. They were very professional, courteous and fast. The packing of five bedroom house was finished in 6 hours (1 hour for lunch break). Altogether, the pick up experience was very good. So here are ***** (five starts) However, this is not the end of the story. For this reason, I took two stars away. Real "fun" was during the delivery. On the "D" day, a big truck came and two guys stepped out. I asked them where is the rest of the team and they started to laugh. Turns out that the guys decided to bring five bedroom house stuff. I should admit: they are really strong, but they were just killing them self, especially the younger guy was doing most of the job while the truck driver was hanging on the phone (said he was calling another customer). There is saying: "if you do not work smart, you need o work hard". The guys had no ramp and just a simple moving trolley. Of course, they did not cover floor,or steps to avoid any damages. You can be very strong, but the nature takes over, and at the end of the day you start to make mistakes because you are tired to death. I just felt pity for them. The process took about 13 hours. As one can assume, they were not the best conversation partners at the end (around 1.30 AM) :( . They said they were surprised that I move so much stuff. Hello!? Did they ever looked at the list of items, and how much stuff do they expect from 5 bedroom house? It was really not overcrowded with furniture because we try to be minimalists here. I completely agree with some of the reviews that this triple loading process (the loading on a truck at origin, unloading to storage, loading on a bigger truck almost on the next day, unloading at the destination) just kills your stuff, no matter how specific you are that for example piano should be handled with care. Piano handling is another story: no frame, no trolley, nothing. However, it was wrapped properly at the origin point, so it did not suffer total damages (still a corner at the base is broken off) . There were also some fatalities for furniture: a section of our TV storage combination was just demolished, also a shelve took couple of hard hits as well. Luckily, we have much experience by moving, so we packed our boxes very carefully, and even after a box major damage, our fragile stuff (like clay sculptures) survived. Some stuff got lost (a box with remotes). One bed and a table are useless now because hardware is missing. I don't know if other companies work better. I'm sure there are worse ones, but I definitely would try something different next time. read more

Spartan helped me with a local move from Los Gatos to Castro Valley, and with an in-town piano move on the same day. They were very accommodating with my multi-leg move, and sent out an extra guy for the piano at no additional charge. They estimated that the move wouldn't exceed 7 hours, and I said I'd prefer that it not exceed 6. They did it in 5.5. All in all a very good experience for my first time using a moving company. We recently decided to move from Marin California to Sarasota Florida (painful) and it was to say the least a bit gut wrenching to know we were leaving a blue state for a red(neck) state. So I started the process to contact the big moving companies who all showed up and provided bids within $500 of each other. Over 12,000 because of the distance. The first guy reminded me of a cement truck driver with dirty shoes and who never followed up with a bid, the second bid from another company was a guy who had an alcohol breakfast or early lunch, the third one wanted to buy my car but a nice guy and the last one showed up too late. Then I decided to call Spartan and first spoke with Mercedes who was pretty good and personable regarding a quote. Then Will showed up and I knew based on the time he spent and the effort to answer my questions that I would most likely go with this company. I did as much homework as I could because what you read on the web is that all movers are movers from hell and it is one bad story after another right? Spartan had a pretty good yelp story to tell and while I am always skeptical of yelp I did have a friend who had just recently used them to move from Oakland to Stockton (Why I keep asking?) She loved the service and said good job. So I bite the bullet and chose them even though they were 25% less than the other movers. As we got closer to the move date I asked Will to return and confirm pricing based on the number of boxes I created and furniture sold in advance of the move. The price did not change which made me very happy after packing 70+ boxes, way more than I thought I would have. The local crew were all good guys who worked hard and quickly. They were done in one day and the 4K sq ft house was empty ready to be cleaned. Three weeks later the truck showed up on Easter Sunday and we spent the day unpacking and assisting our loaders with the personal belongings instead of going to the beach. An Easter I will not forget. So the same at the receiving end the driver and helper were good and worked very hard to unload the truck. All went well and only a couple of minor dings along with one broken piece of stemware. ( I had over 80 pieces). I was very happy with the result and how Spartan handled the whole process. We had a strict 30 day window before we had to leave on a preplanned trip out of Florida so it was critical the belongings arrive before that 30 day period was up. They made it in 23 so it was as promised. I would suggest if you have fine art or expensive stemware to buy the foam padded boxes if they box and seal as required by the insurance company to insure your items. In my case they only used paper to buffer the fragile items. I passed on my feedback to Spartan as something to consider going forward. Thanks and good job. read more

We contacted Spartan for a mini move ( partial not =whole house) of our from Los Gatos, Ca to Carlsbad, Ca. They picked everything up on Friday and said it would be loaded on on of the big trucks sometime the following week. Since we don't live in Carlsbad yet we asked that we be notified ahead of time so we would have time to drive down to meet them. We planned to spend a week there as we had may other things to take care of. Their representative said "I spoke to my dispatch department and they said that once you get a call from them that they are loading up a truck for southern Ca. it should be 1-2 days from that time that you received the call. " We received a call from the driver of the truck on Monday night about 10pm that he had loaded the truck and would be in Carlsbad the next day at 11am. We had to get up at 3am on Tuesday to drive down to there in time to meet the driver, we arrived at about 11:20. I received a call from Spartan on the following Monday asking if everything arrived and was in good shape. I explained they really blew it with the notification, they said " we made a last minute decision to put it in that truck". There was no "sorry that we blew it or that they even cared about the inconvenience they caused us" I know the moving industry can be a bit on the flaky side this is one company that lives up to that impression. UPDATE: I was contacted by Mark from Spartan's customer service about the problem we had. He was very apologetic about how their procedure broke down and stated if it had been followed we would have been contacted 24 hours prior. I felt he was concerned about the customer experience, I am upgrading them to four stars because of his willingness to admit they dropped the ball. We have two more big moves coming up and I will consider using them. read more

Not only was I given a quote that was $2K below what I ended up paying, I was also doubly charged on the backend for delivery because they needed a shuttle, rather than a van line. My things arrived five days after they were supposed to, and I went through rounds and rounds of bad phone calls. I was handed off to different people throughout the process with no warning so nobody had to take ownership for what someone else told me. I would absolutely just get a PODs and do everything myself if I had it to do over again - unprofessional, liars, and will charge you at every single turn. I hate them. read more

The packing crew was great - however once the shipment was delivered, late, and not by the guaranteed date, to it's destination the sideboard that was completely ruined. One leg was ripped off and one leg was seriously cracked - this cannot be repaired and it was in new condition. Another cabinet had one of the doors cracked right down the middle and the trim was ripped off. Thank goodness I took full replacement insurance on the furniture. I will not use Spartan Van Lines again - we'll see how the insurance claim goes. I hope it turns out way better than the move did. If you value your possessions do not risk it by having Spartan Van Lines move them for you!!!! read more

We could never get an estimate of when delivery would be other than the CYA "within 7 business days of when you're ready for delivery" up until the day before the shipment (I even had to sign 14 business days). Even then they couldn't tell us whether they would make the delivery window we had specified. Once the truck was on the road they told us we'd have to be there first thing in the morning, even though we had said we could only accept delivery in the evening on that day. Apparently they needed the big trailer to be empty by noon, so the only way to meet our delivery window was to transfer our stuff to the "shuttle service" and charge us for it. When we tried to dispute the charge they started telling us that if they hadn't charged us for the shuttle service they would have charged us for long carry (even though the big truck could park in the same spot), or maybe wait time (even though we were ready before we said we would be). So it looks like their standard operating procedure is to make up bogus charges while they keep your furniture hostage. They also seemed to take a long time wrapping our furniture, which isn't even that expensive to begin with, and still managed to damage 2 pieces before wrapping and 2 more on transit. Several of the boxes also had holes in them and some damage inside. read more

The move went well, the price was good, I got my things and they were in good shape BUT... I wear (wore) two silver rings everyday. Each night I would take them off and put them on the bathroom counter next to my toothbrush, and the next morning after my shower, put them back on again. EVERYDAY. After the packers left my rings were gone. They were never found, I didn't pack them of course, they were just gone. I can't prove anything. All I can say is the moving company is good, but hide your jewelry. read more

Because in order to get ANY money on any claim, they make you sign a release that you will not post any negative reviews and that you will remove any you have already posted. Otherwise you receive no compensation for anything they have lost, damaged, or broken. Nothing. You're not hearing from everyone that had a bad experience because they were owed compensation, and to get it, they have to be quiet. So since Spartan broke and lost several thousand dollars worth of my belongings, I'm going to forfeit the measly $400 they offered me to warn you all: DON'T DO IT. HIRE SOMEONE ELSE!!! The salesman was great. Spartan was not the cheapest of the four quotes we got, in fact, they were the most expensive, but the salesman convinced me that we needed to hire someone trustworthy and that they would take the best care of our stuff. Curse him. I have used four different moving companies over the years, to move from state to state, and this is the first time I've ever had anything so much as scratched. They broke the leg off my great-grandmother's dining room table, smashed the top of my antique night stand in half, broke the leg of an antique plant stand, crushed a Radio Flyer so it looks like a fortune cookie, broke a plaster art statue, and smashed my Dyson to pieces. Numerous irreparable pieces... Not to mention lots of other items scratched, dented, cracked and chipped. They used my step ladder to load the truck and 'never found' it again. In addition, on both ends of the move, the crews showed up significantly outside of their arrival window. They were VERY late for loading day and after sitting around for a couple hours waiting for another truck because the original truck they ordered was too small, they asked if they could come back tomorrow to finish. When I said no, we had to be on the road that night, they became very belligerent and started throwing things into the truck. It was a terrible experience from start to finish. PLEASE, take my advice and hire someone else. Your stuff will thank you. read more

Moved from CA to WA with storage at their storage facility. Firstly, the salesperson Will was great - not pushy - and very helpful...available to answer calls and emails before AND after the move. Moving team in CA was great. They did an excellent job crating our very special dining room table. Team in WA, the driver (great Israeli guy who was in contact with me on his way) and heavy lifting laborers who are hired for the day, and all were pleasant and helpful. THE great thing about Spartan is that the owners were prepared to get involved and help solve scheduling issues...and are really keen to be sure the customer is happy...they will talk with you directly rather than through an employee.... Of the 3 companies we interviewed, we went with Spartan because of Will...he knew the company inside out because he had worked in different roles...so wasn't just selling you a marketing message... I would definitely recommend them. Nothing can be expected to be perfect in life, but Spartan will try their best to make everything they do, perfect. read more

It was the most horrible experience I can have with a moving company. 1. As is not my first moving, I specified with the maximum details, more than what the Spartan's sales representative (Ana) required. 2. After many phone calls and emails to correct the information in my estimate (details and address ) the manager said on the phone no worry because there extra space. When I asked Ana, the sales representative, about how many people is coming she said "the driver and 3 gentleman more", because we need to move a piano console, desk, bed and big boxes. 3. The day of the moving came only the driver, with any crew to move the staff. When I asked the driver Dane Whit, about the crew he said that he can do alone the moving, situation impossible for the delicate and heavy staff that we are moving. 4. The driver wanted to charge extra for the piano and the desk, approximately a 42% more of the total invoice. 5. As those items were written in the orden, I decided to call Spartan's office to solve this problem but the driver did not want me to call, he wanted to do a deal between us, and the driver did not want me to report that he was just doing the job, without any crew. 6. After 6 phones call to Spartan's office where they did not give me a solution and they left me for a long time waiting on the phone, finally a customer service representative, Susan, proposed a possible solution because the errors were not my responsibility. This because I wanted to canceled the service and my money back, but they refuse because the guarantee regardless of the fact that the company clearly was changing our agreement, they don't reimbursement the money. 7. It's important to let you know that since I made the first call to the company the driver did,'t stop arguing with me in bad terms, because I didn't accept the extra charges and didn't sign the order with the new price following the customer services instruction gave me. As I refused to sign, the chofer called me a liar, multiple times, denying that I was talking with his company's representatives. It should be noted that the driver spoke to his office from my cell phone. 8. As the level of the aggressiveness, anger and denial of leaving of the driver the police had to come. 9. Before the police arrived I received a call from Spartan, from a man who identified himself as the owner, who could hear how the driver was still arguing with me inappropriately to such a level that I was crying and shivering. 10. The next day the company reembolse my guarantee but since to day nobody call me. Resumen: 1. accept a estimates only from companies which only send a representative to check physically the inventory to move . 2. Chava's team was awesome!! They called 45 minutes before to let me know, then showed up on time and worked super hard. They got my 1-bedroom apartment move done in 2 1/2 hours from the time they showed up at the storage facility to the time they left my new apartment. They showed up with 4 guys instead of the 3 I was supposed to get but was only charged for 3. They were courteous and nice, and didn't break anything. Oh and I was able to book them the DAY BEFORE our Saturday morning move after our other moving company was lame and cancelled on us the day before our move. Items were damaged and poorly packed. Boxes were crushed, furniture was not properly prepared for moving or storage and artwork was simply wrapped in Saran Wrap resulting in significant damage. Belongings were hastily loaded into truck and offloaded into a storage unit making it impossible to inspect as they were crammed into to the unit and stacked up to 10 feet high. read more
