Whenever I crave a burger my stomach is fantasizing about a Split burger. You know a burger was made with love when it begins to drip meat juices the second you bite into it. It's so dangerous that this place is half a block away from my office because I might just gain 10 pounds from eating lunch here for 1 week straight. It's your classic American food joint with burgers, sandwiches, and salads. Everything is worth a try hence why I'd go here for lunch for a week straight. There is a great combination of flavors and fresh food with any selection on the menu. The place is always spotless, very clean. Beware the meal times. Lunch is not served till 10:30am and the place closes at 3:00pm. So if you're wanting to grab a quick bite after work, this is not the place to go. The only thing I would knock down 1 star for this place is the price. A main dish and a side can rack up real quick, almost $18. As a recent graduate starting my career with an entry level position, paying for a meal like that constantly can be a bit much. They shy away from deli meats instead opting for sandwich fillings (or salad toppings) like fried chicken, pulled pork and sausage patties. More like a fancy sandwich that you'd get a at Farmers' Market stall than a generic work lunch joint. Fried Egg Sandwich w/ Homemade Sausage: This rivals my other favorite sausage patty breakfast sandwich at Super Duper. Flavorful homemade pork sausage patty seared on the outside but juicy on the inside. Lots of savory cheese. The egg was fully fried, though it might have been better if it were slightly runny. The bread was soft and chewy, which worked really well since you don't want to crunch through hard rolls at breakfast. The arugula made it seem partially healthy. Crispy Chicken Parm: I was tempted to get the porchetta, but I love chicken parmesan, so I couldn't resist. It was somewhat reminiscent of chicken parm sandwiches that are periodically offered by fast food chains, but with much better ingredients. The crispy chicken was a little soggy, where touching the tomato sauce, by the time I got back to my office. But the non-soggy chicken portions were nice and crunchy. Expensive! Classic chicken sandwich plus Split fries cost $18. The sandwich is of good quality overall but the chicken itself is a bit on the dry and bland side. It's got a nice balance of meat, bread, and vegetables though and still has a satisfying taste. The Split fries come in a decent portion size and I like the sriracha ranch sauce that it comes with. As far as chicken sandwiches go, I feel that The Bird (just a block away) is a better sandwich and a much better deal. Meh! While working out in SF on a day where clearly many restaurants were closed myself and a co-worker ended up here. It's located on the first floor of our building, I was a bit apprehensive due to the less than stellar reviews and 3 1/2 star rating. Upon walking inside I thought maybe the reviews were wrong because it was jam packed and the line was literally out the door. I heard from a few co-workers that the burgers were good but after trying to go to The Bird and my mouth and stomach being set on a fried chicken sandwich that's what I was hoping to get here. The interior of this restaurant is very nice and quite modern, I love the tan U-shaped booths and mixture of booths and tables they have here. The restaurant itself is a bit on the small side so it may be very hard to find seating here if coming during the busy lunch rush. The walls are covered in some nice artwork as well. Now to the menu, they have breakfast and lunch options. As far as burgers they have a few different options but there seems to be more chicken sandwiches on the menu and they also have veggie sandwiches. I opted for the Parm Crispy Chicken Sandwich and the Split fries. I loved that the kitchen was pretty much an open kitchen because I was able to see my entire meal being made. The fried chicken for the sandwiches are hand breaded here and fried fresh, the cheese looks freshly grated, not sure if the fries are cut fresh but they are fried right then and there and not sitting around. I had high expectations after seeing everything made. The sandwich had a good amount of mozzarella cheese, but not too much tomato sauce and the sauce was quite bland. The ciabatta bread was good and tasted fresh and while the chicken was good it wasn't all that crispy and the breading was falling off. Huge disappointment. I was hoping for a sandwich that was so full of flavor and very crispy. The split fries were ok, they were topped with shaved Parmesan and herbs and served with a yummy sriracha ranch. I would have liked for the fries to have been a little more crispy and maybe some garlic added for flavor. I had a catered lunch by Split at a work training while I was in SF. We were able to browse the menu beforehand and everything sounded amazing! I was pretending to be healthy so I picked the Split Cobb. It has romaine, roasted chicken, applewood smoked bacon, avocado, cherry tomatoes, blue cheese, 8 minute egg, chives, and sriracha ranch dressing, and it was delicious! This salad had tons of toppings and not just a bunch of romaine. The avocado was perfectly ripe-something I can never quite get right at home, so definitely appreciated that. The blue cheese added a zip of tang which I loved, and the egg was a nice touch for extra richness (not that it really needed it, but still-yum)! The salad was a huge portion and it definitely filled me up for a long afternoon of training sessions. Unfortunately I don't think it was that healthy with the copious amounts of dressing and blue cheese, but I don't care. I'm still pretending salad = healthy. The only complaint I had about it was some of the chicken was a bit dry, but the dressing helped with that. This was my first time at this Split Bread location. I've already been to their Metreon location so I already had an idea how their sandwiches were. The savory jalapeño slaw has just the right kick to it, and pair wells with the smoked ailoi. Adding cheese is, of course, extra, but I recommend adding the aged cheddar. This location gets busy quickly, and even though the service is fast, I recommend coming early to avoid the lunch rush. If I'm looking to splurge on a veggie burger, Split will be my go-to. It was so worth it! 1) It was spicy in a great way, and 2) Huge. I should have eaten half but I couldn't stop because it was so good. When I was working on Stevenson, I heard about a new joint opening up that was also owned by Mixt Greens. Everyday I would pass, I would smell the most amazing rotisserie scent so one day I said, let's do it! The place is clean and efficient. There's stanchions helping the line move along, two cashiers and lots of folks getting the food out. I like that they have a water and condiment station with lots of the to go packaging. For lunch, I got the Presidio salad for $9.95: Baby kale, shaved parmesan, roasted cauliflower, roasted sweet potato, toasted almonds, whole grain mustard vinaigrette and there's an option to add spit roasted pulled chicken $3. The vinaigrette wasn't too powerful, lots of shaved parmesan and the chicken included both white and dark meat. It was a lot for the price and super filling. I had take out and ordered the Alamo salad for a work lunch. Oh my gosh, it was so good. Presentation was fantastic which you don't always expect with takeout! I realize this establishment is new and they are working out the quirks - so hopefully this review will be taken as a suggestive review. When a customer orders a burger, the person behind the register should always ask the customer "how would you like that cooked?" Person behind registered asked me what I wanted then she rang me up and asked for payment. Only when I realized this I blurted out "I wanted my burger cooked medium rare." She realized the error and quickly got it on the receipt however the information was not conveyed to the person cooking the burgers. Either that, or the person cooking the burgers doesn't realize that there is a certain delicacy to cooking a burger and many people like their burgers cooked differently, such as: rare, medium-rare, medium, and well done. With a $13+ purchase I thought there would be a side of something, maybe a small garden salad or fries = NOTHING! The service was prompt - this was a clue that my burger was not cooked to my order. To my dismay, I was right, I received a dry, overcooked burger with one bacon strip ($2 mark-up) which was barely detectable, half of a half of (this is not a typo) tomato slice, 2 small pickles and a few pieces of sliced red-onion. Worst hamburger ever‼! And I should know, I eat them often. I was honestly excited to see Split Bread open up and was hoping they would offer a better alternative to the $20+ hamburger I once purchased from Louie's (at least Lou's cooked my burger to order, gave me ample amounts of bacon ($2 mark-up) and choice of a side), but sadly, after what I received today, I think I will continue to reserve my burger orders for Bell Tower. read more

The thing that stands out about Split Bread is how orderly it is. There isn't a mass chaos of people trying to order then stand around to wait for their food. They properly use stanchions to navigate the line between the many tables to sit inside and eat. Of course... only someone as OCD as me would notice something like this. This place is fantastic. From the very cool seating to the fact that it's about a five minute walk from my office and still feels like it's hidden away in an alley. The staff was very friendly when I came for lunch and were patient when I couldn't quite decide on what to get. I ended up getting a Sonoma Sandwich and some fries with Parmesan. For my drink I got an Arnold Palmer. The Arnold Palmer wasn't sweet enough for me, but it was still refreshing. The sandwich was fantastic! Not something you can have every day. It also tasted very salty. Avocado Toast ($5.95) - Great breakfast option with protein as it includes a poached egg. Otherwise, the toast is pretty standard. Presidio Salad ($9.95) - The hearty green baby kale really balances out the richness of the roast chicken. Roasted sweet potato and cauliflower made this taste less like a salad and more like a filling meal. Got the crispy D Luxe on gluten free bread. I was a little alarmed at first because the bread didn't taste gluten free, but after speaking with a man who I assume is the owner, he assured me that it is.
