We enjoyed our meal. Also ordered garlic noodles and fries but those didn't come till the end of our meal. I wished we had it to eat it with our seafood which was a bummer. Service was pleasant. Staff was generally around if you need anything. This building use to be the old Black Angus years ago so it is pretty roomy! Will be back next time I'm craving some seafood boil! Recommend :)

I liked the self serve topping selection. Some options like octopus were dinner only, but they were so good. Very comfortable and nice place to fill up your stomach. There is a front of the house "manager". I don't know her name because unlike the servers, she doesn't wear a name tag. Perhaps that is on purpose...and should change. I will just say she's an older woman who wears glasses. When one of the children in our party went up to measure their height, it was clear that they were below the line. Nobody had an issue besides this "manager". She demanded that she double check, using a menu to carefully measure. If Shabuya needs to check height so badly, maybe we can go elsewhere. There are other places to eat. She is incredibly rude and said WE were the problem. Wow! Again, she wasn't wearing a name tag, so I cannot even name her. Just that she's incredibly off-putting and will cost Shabuya customers.

We walked into the Milpitas location, which follows that familiar formula with bear-themed décor, spacious booths, and a relaxed setting that works well for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The interior feels warm and inviting, with wooden accents and a cozy energy that makes it the kind of place where you can settle in for a filling meal without feeling rushed. The booths are comfortable and the layout is spacious, accommodating both small groups and larger families with ease. The menu is extensive, covering everything from pancakes, waffles, omelets, and chicken fried steak to burgers, sandwiches, pot roast, and slow-roasted meats. Breakfast is the biggest draw, with large platters that easily satisfy a big appetite, and we found the portions more than generous enough to leave us full. The chicken and waffles offered a solid balance of crispy chicken and fluffy waffles, while the country-style entrées were satisfying and well prepared. The food is not particularly innovative, but it is consistently satisfying and delivers exactly what you would expect from a traditional diner, with each dish feeling familiar and comforting without trying to be anything more. One of the biggest strengths of Black Bear Diner is the value. Portions are generous enough that many meals can be shared or provide leftovers, making the prices feel reasonable given the amount of food you receive. We noticed that even the smaller portions were substantial, and the quality of the ingredients held up well against the quantity. Service is typically friendly and attentive, with coffee refills coming regularly and meals arriving at a steady pace. The staff handled the busy weekend morning flow with efficiency, keeping the dining room moving without making us feel rushed. During weekend mornings, the restaurant can get busy, but the team manages the volume well, and the turnover is fast enough that the wait does not feel excessive. Black Bear Diner is a dependable choice when you are craving classic American comfort food. It is not a destination for unique or elevated dining, but that has never been the goal. Instead, it delivers hearty portions, reliable service, and a comfortable atmosphere that makes it an easy option for a satisfying breakfast or casual family meal. The combination of value, consistency, and a welcoming setting makes it a practical stop for a meal that feels both familiar and filling.

No lines and no crowds on a rainy day morning with plenty of available parking spots in the huge lot. Nothing attractive on the outside in this old popular plaza. The place turned out great with the old fashioned retro red color style interior and the experience was wonderful. Good vibes and positive feelings when walking into it. My lady server provided excellent service and the Hispanic male worker was quick and efficient. Place is clean and menu had good variety of selections. Breakfast is served all day while lunch items start at 11am. My breakfast was very fulfilling and total was $25.30 with everything included. I paid in cash and tipped them $5. Loved my sweet lady server. There was another older woman at the cash register. She's a local as well. I really enjoyed the stop. I had the Fajitas Omelette breakfast and the steak meats in it were very generous. Delicious breakfast exactly as I had expected. My onions green peppers potatoes were perfect with a side of salsa. Sourdough toast was delicious with the garlic butter taste. I really came for my favorite hot chocolate with whipped cream in the morning. I do miss big American breakfasts, especially in these old fashioned and traditional retro spots. Love it. Why didn't I visit this place much earlier? Because they're always busy or full inside and the plaza parking is usually congested with heavy traffic here. Overall, I love the vibes and the service. It's one of those places where you can just have normal casual conversations with the staffs working inside if you are open to it. Beautiful diner. Yes, I will be revisiting in the future. If you love huge food portions, there's great value here. One plate can easily be shared between two people. Nice.

We moved to Milpitas about a year ago and my son started going to Mil's and is a current 'Regular'. They have good food. So after a while, my husband and I started going there and we too started going there pretty regularly for breakfast, at least once or twice a week. All in all, between the family we drop a few hundred a week. And we do tip well. Most of the wait staff knows us. Today, my husband had to stop on his way home to use the restroom. He doesn't look homeless or unkempt in anyway. When he asked, they told him he couldn't unless he's a 'paying customer'. This was to a newer employee he hadnt seen before. He proceeded to explain that we eat here regularly and she still said no. He asked to speak to the manager, who does know him. He too said no. I find it ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS that for a supposed family atmosphere restaurant, they couldn't extend a small courtesy. What exactly was it going to take away from them? As mentioned, we drop a good chunk of change there, and they didnt want to help out a patron that frequents the restaurant? Well, have no fear, we will NEVER darken your doorstep EVER again.

The seafood boil came loaded with shrimp (I swapped the crawfish option), lobster tail, corn, potatoes, and sausage. Everything was flavorful and cooked well. I also loved that the combo included a main dish, drinks, and golden fried buns for dessert, making it an excellent value for the price. Beyond the food, the atmosphere was lively and fun with live entertainment, great music, and plenty of menu options ranging from Chinese BBQ and seafood to noodles and desserts. The banchan variety is actually really good, which is a highlight for me, though the kimchi isn't my favorite. My personal go-tos are the Korean jelly (muk muchim), broccoli, tomato, and macaroni salad. I'd honestly come back just for the banchan spread. That said, for the price, the main dishes are just okay. One big plus: they serve purple rice, which I always appreciate. Service has been very hit or miss. Sometimes they're friendly and accommodating, but my last visit really threw me off. We asked for a refill on the muk muchim, and our server said they were "sold out"... but then the table next to us was immediately served it. I'd honestly rather they just say no than give an excuse like that.. it left a bad impression and made the experience feel off. A few thoughts on the dishes: * Budae Jjigae - A bit bland for my taste, heavy on kimchi and light on meats like spam, sausage, and bacon. * Galbitang - Light yet flavorful, with 3 large rib bones that had a good amount of meat. Comes with glass noodles, rice cakes, and thin egg strips * Japchae - Not complimentary here (you have to order it), but it's actually pretty good. * Seafood tofu soup - Just okay, nothing too memorable. * Galbi - Flavorful and reliable--can't go wrong, especially with purple rice. * Mul Naengmyeon - Refreshing and well done. * Seafood pancake - Crispy, not overly oily, and packed with seafood and green onions. * Bibimbap - Loved the crispy rice at the bottom, though the beef portion was a bit small. * Yukgaejang - Decent, but not as rich or flavorful as other spots. Overall, I'd say this place shines most in its banchan variety and comfortable dining space, but the inconsistency in both food and service makes it a bit harder to fully recommend
