Well. We were staying 5 nights at the Millennium Hilton which although fantastic wanted to charge 28 dollars for bacon and eggs. So I had Squires booked marked as its only 5 mins walk away. Staff here are very nice and not abrupt like some New York cafes. We ended up having breakfast here 3 days out of 5. Always good food with good service. The staff remembered us after day one and by day three we were getting on first name terms. Various breakfast options all very good with good sized portions. Prices never more than 14 dollars for two of us. Next time we are in New York we will be back at Squires. read more

Huge fan! For the people who are saying that it's pricey for diner food, it's called New York City baby! The amount of times I have ordered late at night a milkshake, curly fries, and a bagel and not one disappointment! I have been looking for this kind of place since I moved to NY. Somewhere that doesn't take itself too seriously, serves good food, with good service and at a reasonable price. I will be here...often. Pros: - Waiter was awesome. Attentive and nice. - Prices were awesome. Two people...two good sized meals...$16. - Food was...awesome. I was expecting much less and, well, I was wrong. - Breakfast anytime. - The atmosphere was exactly what it should be. Inviting, not showy or gaudy, not pretentious or overdone. This place is so cute! I mean old school diner cute and I love it. I have gone a few times now and their blueberry banana pancakes are the bomb! They staff is so nice, on top of everything and I love eating here. It's a diner so it's not the most amazing place in NY, but I will go back again and again. It's definitely a keeper. read more

This is a fabulous diner. Found a little bit off the Main Street, this place has always satisfied my cravings. The staff members here are very hospitable. They have a tv (can't miss those World Cup games!), a little bar to eat at, as well as tables and booths. I've had both breakfast and lunch here. The California Wrap is pretty good as is the Challah French Toast and their homefries. A great place to stop in if you're in the area! read more

Great prices, especially brunch. Just a really nice, cute little diner. Reminds me of home. Food is great -- not phenomenally amazing, but it IS diner food after all. The staff is lovely, and gets to know you so quickly. Food comes out pretty quickly as well. Only problem we've had so far is not getting blueberries on the blueberry pancakes, but that was quickly remedied. The old folks that go there are a ball! I've overheard some of the best stories sitting in Squires. My friends and I are all about this diner, so when it came up on Yelp, I just had to put in my two cents. =) read more

This place is located in the Southbridge complex and is a throwback to earlier times. No fancy schmancy setting, lighting and seating is like a cafeteria. The patrons seem to be elderly folks--I think it's just a matter of time for younger ppl to discover the no frills, good ole grub when you don't want to pay for fancy schmancy $$$$ dining in the tourist-trap South Street Seaport, or get fast food grub along the Fulton Street food stops. The service by the staff is FANTASTIC and is more like a local hangout. I would think only a resident would know where it is since it is set back from the streets. The waiters/waitresses remember faces and even menu preferences. Food wise, it is so-so but definitely home feel. I went twice with my godfather. He ordered the filet of sole stuffed with crabmeat which he loves. I ordered the salmon filet first time (perfect!) and the chicken marsala the second time (marsala sauce a bit strong). The veggies, however, are a bit overdone to just be bulk with no nutritional value. Portions were big and filling. Overall for the price, portion, and service, it is a relative bargain, between $ and $$ signs. read more

A local gem. As a southbridge resident, i lived right next door for years but never really gave it a try until recently. Now i'm a firm believer of this classic diner with good homemade style food. The omelettes and corn beef hash are good. The panini sandwiches and sliced roast turkey entree were also on point. The servers are extremely polite and courteous and the place is packed during lunch. Some of the sandwiches have a Mediterranean style to it as well. read more

Best choice for a diner in the area where I work (FIDI near the Seaport). Squires doesn't have the atmosphere of the Pearl Street Diner (if you overlook the dirt there) but it is clean, prices are extremely reasonable for the area, service is super friendly, and the food is tasty. Plus you cannot beat their lunch specials: for $6.95, I got an enormous gyro with fries and an iced tea. The tzatziki sauce had a bit of an odd taste and my friend didn't like her chicken salad because it was made with Miracle Whip instead of mayo, but these are small complaints. Look for this hidden gem - it's tucked away inside the courtyard of an apartment complex and it's easy to miss the sign on Fulton Street. read more

I've come here quite a few times with my boyfriend, who lives nearby. Good, filling food for the price (the portions are more than generous). Waiters are always attentive and polite, and the atmosphere is what you'd expect from any small diner; quiet and homely. If I get breakfast I usually go for a platter with pancakes, eggs, sausage, ham, and bacon; a little bit of everything. I never usually see people walking in and out of this diner. When I walk by it, it's usually to take a short cut to Fulton Street or Seaport right around the corner. It's more of a spot for the elderly who live around it in the apartment complexes the diner is located below. Feeling lazy, my boyfriend and I decided to just walk in here and see what they have to offer (since we couldn't decide what to have for dinner). As I mentioned before, there was really no inside the diner at around 7pm. We sat ourselves down and had our waiter come over. They told us about the specials going on for that day, and left to return with our glasses of water. My boyfriend ordered the Lobster Bisque soup with a Chicken Pot Pie, and I, the Chicken Souvlaki Platter. I mistakenly thought my dish would come with rice (like a chicken over rice platter), but instead, it was a crispy pita with a Greek salad and homemade Tatziki sauce on the side. I substituted the French fries with a baked potato. The portion was so big though- that I knew I'd be full, even without the rice. And I was. My boyfriend's Chicken Pot Pie was bigger than what you'd get at Boston Market or in the frozen aisle. It came in a large casserole dish with a crust baked on top of a homemade chicken stew underneath. He thought the crust was a little odd because it was sweetened, but became full as well, nonetheless. We are actually thinking of returning here since we've exhausted a lot of food places in downtown Manhattan. They have very affordable meals, and so many choices! The staff are all so friendly too. First time I came here it was great. Cheap and delicious. The second time, I found a piece of METAL WIRE in my food.

It had been several years since I was here last time but as my son has a very limited diet when we go out (grilled cheese) I thought I would give it a try again. We had some communication problems with the service as instead of a grilled cheese we got a bagle with cream cheese. When we adked yo get it changed the same bagle came back with american cheese. My omelet was ok without being exceptional. It will probably be a while before we come back here. read more

As a vegetarian, I find diners are mosre focused on meat products. This diner was decent. I ordered a spinach pizza on pita bread. The sauce could be way better but it was filling. The waiters are very nice, they let my friend and I sit for 2 hours to sip on coffee after we ate. That's rare to me in NYC. My friends burger looked decent so I would recommend you give it a try. Disgusting food, ordered a Caesar salad, the lettuce was browning and the dressing was not good and the croutons were soft and stale. Needless to say I did not eat the salad, the wait staff was very rude when I brought this to their attention and requested got the salad to be removed from my bill being that I did not eat it. I ordered from here on Sunday, and it was exactly what I was looking for. Solid diner food that was pretty inexpensive. My whole meal was $9 for a great deal of food. My only complaint is that the food took over an hour to deliver and the delivery man was rude, but I will chalk that up to Halloween weekend. Your standard neighborhood diner, tucked away on Beekman between several apartment complexes. The waiters are friendly, the space is clean, and the food is nothing out of the ordinary. Only complaint is that our server was kind of rude and never came back to check on us had to ask for the check after waiting too long for him to come back to us. Second, the food is excellent. They really go beyond what is necessary when it comes to diner food. Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner - Squires does it right! Great food, good portions and fresh. They have every type of drink too. The menu is huge so the hardest part maybe what to order. If you want a NY Diner experience THIS is it - they don't have the fancy decor of the Denny's down the street - instead they have great food and that's what I keep coming back for. I ordered my meal online with a baked potato but they gave me mashed potatoes but provided sour cream. When I called to see what happened to the salad that comes with my open face sandwich they said it is soup or salad - even though that is NOT what the online menu says. Horrible service!!! I ordered on Grubhub and input specific directions bc I work inside a mall. I've ordered from here before with the same directions and they've gotten to my store just fine. The delivery guy calls and says that he's outside and can't find the mall so I reiterate my instructions and he's getting all nasty. I go outside to meet him and he calls again to say he dropped my food off inside. I went to my store and the food wasn't there!!!! He literally gave my food to a random person and when I called the diner, they got all irritated and essentially told me it was my fault and I had to call Grubhub to get a refund. They could've apologized but all I got was an attitude and no food. Never ordering from here again!!!! read more

Really accommodating staff. I got the Corned Beef special and it was great, just needed salt. The price was very, very affordable being in Manhattan. If I ordered the burger deluxe, it is even cheaper than going far out into Queens near the airport. Staff is good, Rangers game was on, and gladly they were losing. Go Islanders!!!!! read more
