We wanted to get dinner before the July 4th fireworks and my friend suggested we try this place as they have some live chat. The live chat is in the patio area. It's well shielded preventing the wind which kept the area warm. They have cafe lights, some heaters and an overall great vibe going on with several varieties of chat. Masala puri, panipuri, onion samosa, punugulu, mirchi bajji and Osmania biscuits with chai are some varieties they had that day. We sampled almost everything except mirchi bajji. Panipuri: the filling was way too hot and made it difficult to eat and kept breaking up the puri as well. The pani needed some tartness and extra heat from chillies. Having said that, it was still great and much better than other places. I liked it enough to take two plates. Masala puri: a little too spicy but delicious nonetheless. Punugulu: these were great. Best among the lot. Onion samosa: typically the filling is not spicy, they are supposed to be just these greasy little bites with onion filling. The version here used a lot of chilli in the filling. Chai: a little too sweet. We then went into the restaurant to get some dinner after all these snacks and got the three feet dosa for the kids and Kalyana sapudu. Dosa: rich with ghee but reminded me of the dosa I had as kid and fell in love with back in India. Kalyana sapudu: came with a variety of curries, one roti, white rice and some desserts. I liked everything on the plate. The potato Kurma with some greens was my favorite followed by the cabbage dal. Overall I am impressed enough to go back. Tried pani puri - 4/5 pretty spicy, they have 6 I believe Samosa chaat-3/5 decent taste but the portion was extremely small. Just 1 medium samosa and chenna on top, will not get it again. This authentic Indian restaurant has two sections, outside you can have street food and snacks like pani puri, masala puri, mirchi bajji and other delicious quick snacks along with hot drinks. Outdoor patio has a TV that plays South Indian music videos and gives a livelihood to the experience. Outside there are benches and designated areas to stand and enjoy food. Inside the vegetarian menu offers a lot to choose from. I generally like the food at this restaurant however the first order of rice had hair in it and was cold on one side so they swapped it with a new one that was also warm. Placing an order can be challenging as the staff aren't fluent English speakers. In one night I ended up with 3 whole dishes of Chilli Malli Uthappam while I only asked for an extra one. The parking is limited and you may come across rats right outside the kitchen, I also noticed rat droppings in the female bathroom. The restaurant itself looks pretty clean both inside and the outdoor area. We decided to try this place after reading about its live pani puri station. I am glad that we did! We were craving for some good pani puri since we don't live in / around Sunnywale. The pani puri was delicious and authentic. Good part was it was BOGO offer. The ambiance was clean and nice. Later we decided to dine in. Visited this place for lunch back in Jan of 202. I love South Indian food esp idli and Dosa. I love the fact that this place is located in Sunnyvale and is open all days and till late. Have tried their idli, medhu vada, masala dosa, and thalis. Everything is absolute best. Their sambhar is good and they gladly do the refills so its really convenient. They usually give 3-4 chutneys, one is coconut, second is tomato, and third one is peanut. I love the tomato and coconut chutneys both. Their idlis and vadas are very fresh. And dosas are crisp. Dosa's filling is good too making it even more delicious. Have tried their dessert and its not that great. Its really sweet so I don't really recommend it. Their uttapams are ok too so we usually order dosas. Parking could get tight since its they have limited spots. Seating arrangement is good. Restrooms are clean. And waiting times could get longer during peak hours like lunch time or weekend dinners. Overall all a nice place to have some good South Indian food. read more

Tons and tons and tons of variety of dosas here. This is the most versalite South Indian restaurant I came across in the Bay Area. Dishes are pricey compared to other South Indian restaurants but quality is decent. In addition to dosas, their combo dishes are great too. I love their ghee pongal, it's really rich. Plenty of parking place next to restaurant. They have a dedicated parking space. They also added an outdoor space in the pandemic which is really cool. They also offer specials during weekend. We went here for lunch. Both me and my wife ordered the Kalyana Sapudu thali. The papads had gone soft and there was lack of seasoning in every thing served in the thali. We also ordered tea and requested that we get it first. We reminded our server twice but in spite of this the tea was served towards the end and was lukewarm at best and did not taste good. We also ordered poori which comes with two sides as per the menu. My wife specifically mentioned she wanted the rasam and potatoes to be served with the poori. It was a very casual dining setup and they had very South Indian menu with dosa, idli and many combos. Menu - 4/5 - They have some Kerala items too, but it was just very mixed up, prolly to cater to a larger audience. Kalyan Thali - 3/5 - We ordered this as my partner was craving for a thali. They had sambar, rasam, curry, portal, one chapati and rice. The rice is of very bad quality or it was overcooked and did not taste good. their gongura pickle was amazing and so was the curry. My family and I went to Sri on a weekday, and it had business, but not full of people at that moment. We didn't find the service from the front person/host helpful, and she was not that nice either. As one not familiar with this cuisine, we had some questions, and this staff response was condescending, not helpful, and indifferent. Also, lacking in cleanliness. The utensils and cups on the table were not clean, they had small pieces of dry food here and there. They have a jar of water already sitting at the table. I'd prefer that they keep it cool in the fridge and bring it out until the customer sits down at the table. On a positive note, the food was good and we were pleasantly surprised that a mistake in order turned out to be a yummy dish. The guy who brought the food was nice and helpful. We had Special Thali and Uthappam with peas, carrots and tomatoes. Rice and sides in the Thali are tasty. The coconut chutney was too salty for my taste, but the tomato chutney had a good cashew flavor. The cilantro chutney was average. Food at this eatery is reasonably good. However, there is one issue we would like to bring up. As many restaurants do nowadays, Sri Anada Bhavan does not give customers an itemized bill before processing point of sale payment. On the handheld payment device, the sales tax is already included in the total amount before the tip screen that follows. Unknowingly, customers are being forced to tip the sales tax on top of tipping the restaurant food and service. An itemized receipt is also not given (unless asked for) after payment, which will clearly show unintentional extra tipping. read more

Ananda Bhavan not only creates an amazing version of this rice-lentil batter crepe, they also serve their South Indian vegetarian eats in a tranquil, modern patio, attached to a red building sitting in the midst of Silicon Valley tech offices. My order, of course, was the Mysore Masala Dosa, a huge triangular crepe, which came on a large metal tray. The dosa was smeared on the inside with a spicy Mysore chili paste, stuffed with a spiced potato mixture, and served with three different chutneys and sambar! I loved every part of this dish from the perfectly thin and crispy crepe, the spicy chili paste, the masala potatoes (which had pieces of dal for a bit of crunch), and especially the three chutneys. The white coconut chutney and the green herb chutney were both bright and refreshing, but my favorite had to be the red tomato chutney, which was made with peanuts and red chili, giving the sauce a nice earthiness and a bit of a kick! If you enjoy vegetarian food and want to get a sense for what southern Indian food tastes like, this is a brilliant place for you to check out. We (a few Jamaicans and Southern Indians) tried about 10 different dishes, and several beverages (rose milk was a big hit amongst us). Loved the 'Bisibelebath' (the sides were also just perfect). The puffed ('Poori') bread and the dips were delicious. Of the appetizers, we tried Bhel and Sev puri - both delicious. The coffee, chai and dosas could have been more authentic. There's parking right behind the restaurant for customers, there's outside seating and indoor seating (not sure how that's changed due to covid).
