YUMMMM, I love coming here. I've tried most of their menu items and I've loved all of it. I like that they change chutneys often because I've gotten to try different ones every time I come. It's also super easy to order and the food arrives super fast. I've tried similar places to this but the spice level is always crazy high. We came here for dinner and to be honest? I wouldn't come back. They seated us right away and I went to the bathroom to wash my hands. The moment you walk into the bathrooms it SMELLS so bad! I literally just walked out and washed my hands outside with water from my bottle and sanitized. We waited for our food and everything tasted bad/ stale. The chutney for the dosa was definitely a day old. It had the stale after taste. The vada was really not made fresh, it was something that was made that morning that they kinda of reheated. Very good food and fast service. I am a fan of Indian food and having many vegetarian colleagues I always get to learn new things (like check that cool pic of me pouring the coffee Chennai style!). My friendleague Radha took me there because I was craving idli soup with those 'sponges' as I call these white goodies they put in that soup. I have had them in different version depending on who cooks them and I have to say that I was very satisfied and in a semi cold day felt warm in my belly and going back to work happy and full. Loved the dosa as well together with all those chutneys and forgot the name of the 'churro' as I call it (the donut churro), it was so delicious. Coffee was awesome, not excessively sugary. Tried this the other night. Ordered an onion rava masala dosa. I liked that the potato sabji came on the side vs inside the dosa as this allows for the dosa to remain crispy/not get soggy. Their red chutney was so spicy and so good! That's really the 2 stars. Their sambar was not spicy/just didn't have the normal sambar flavor that we drool over. The dosa was a huge miss. The rava dosas I've always had have been quite thin, very crispy, and lacy in appearance. This one was much thicker (compared to what a dosa should be) and I could not even taste nor see the cumin seeds! It was literally a plain dosa with a lot of thick pieces of onion and potatoes on the side. I was hungry so I ate it but damn, this place missed the mark on rava dosa. Long over due review. AB has been my go-to during lockdown. Usually very good quality and quantity. Today it seems like everything is half-full containers. Ram said it's the difference between 14oz and 16oz boxes, and I trust him. My eyes cannot visually tell the difference. Quality has not changed - it's still yumm!! Awesomeness!!! We got the Kalyana Sapudu ( meaning wedding lunch) or in other words a Thali meal 'to go'. I am always weary about getting such elaborate meals as a 'to go' order, however this restaurant has it perfected. Food taste and quality is an A+ Selection of items and the packaging is an A+ Each thali meal came with two large Rotis/chapatis and a lot of rice. The rice was fresh and fluffy. I like this little hole in the wall. The service is good. The food is delicious. I really like their peanut bhel and their dosa crepes. The dosas are up there with Madras Cafe - the best in the SFBA. Their Bisi Bele isn't authentic. Not like it's made in Bangalore with the Bisi Bele spice mix. It's just sambhar and rice. I really like their chutneys - coconut, peanut, and tomato. My only suggestion would be to be less dive-y. Spruce up the decor, get rid of all the clutter, make the overall look clean and uncluttered. And turn down the heat and salt in your curries. Let the customer decide on the salt levels by providing salt packets or a salt shaker on every table. Tone down the salt in your salt lassi or chaas. read more

Cardinal rule of a dosa place - if the batter is sour dont use it to make dosa . We ordered 4 dishes - one was ok and 3 was bad Rava onion dosa - rava and onion didnt have any taste . This place is amazing and a true gem in Sunnyvale which has no shortage of Indian food. The menu options are plentiful and the flavors are on point. I really liked going here for lunch, the atmosphere is laid back and there are soooo many menu items and everything looks, smells, and tastes delicious so it's really hard to choose. The appetizers were definately my favorite part of the meal, they have a really delicious balanced and well textured bhel puri (not mushy!!). Their dosas are also to die for - I had the ginger dosa and the sauces and the flavor of the ginger really shone. Thali is a really awesome experience and the platter is really big and extremely shareable and you get to try lots of different items all at once including the yogurty dessert which I pretty much drank. They also have lots of other desserts and treats that you can take for the road. The service was nice and the servers put up with us asking tons of questions about the menu. In search for some good south Indian food we ended up at Anand Bhavan yesterday. They took all the measures that a restaurant should in terms of outdoor seating, blocking out certain tables to maintain that social distancing et al. We ordered good amount of samosas, french fries , crispy veggie pakoras and veggie rolls along with some good old fashioned masala tea. Definitely awesome food , great service and we finished everything that was brought (eatables and drinkables that is :) ) to the table. The masala dosa that I ordered was decent but the restaurant and the restroom is nasty. Somebody needs to scrub the floor and update the inside. My first impression would be as a customer that why would I return to this restaurant if there are other South Indian restaurants serving similar food but are much cleaner inside. Man this place is hard to rate On the one hand, the food is excellent, as well as the service. I got the ananda spicy masala dosa, which was fantastic--lots of tasty dip sauces, the dosa was cooked on the spot and served hot, and the masala filling was was served hot and had a really good kick to it. The service was great as well--the servers were really attentive, and went out of his way to make sure the food was acceptable for my friend's strict diet requirements. On the other hand, after I ate the food, my stomach couldn't take it--I must have went to the bathroom 5 times the day after because of the food here :) Maybe it's just me :) But unlikely I will come back here, even though the food was really tasty, and authentic, and the customer service was really good. read more

Total with tax and tip came to $32.27 Pros: Vada and Sambhar with yelp checkin (+1) Chutneys were good. Cons: Portions were not adequate for the price. One or two items might not be enough to satisfy one's appetite. (-1) Service was poor. Tumblers were not provided. Empty plates were not removed. Restaurant only had 2 tables with patrons, yet we were told to walk and pay up front. (-1) We caught a glimpse of the cook in the kitchen in his T-Shirt without any gloves, apron etc. Not good. The takeout experience especially for crispy dosa isn't the same as being there and eating it right off the griddle. The place was great , following covid rules. Food: I had ordered online a rawa masala dosa, 12 piece idli and carrot halwa. Due to some miscommunication gulab jamun was delivered instead of halwa and so I took off a star. Rawa masala dosa was delicious and seemed pretty authentic. Idli was dipped in sambhar that was soft and yummy. Value for money for the food. Sambhar was well cooked and had great texture. The best dosa I have ever had in Bay Area. Have been going to this place from almost an year and have literally stopped going to any other South Indian place in Bay Area now. The food quality is always consistent unlike other places where weekend means diluted Sambhar and half cooked dosa. The staff is so welcoming and always smiling . This is my favourite south indian restaurant in the bay area. Personal favourite items on the menu are kara dosa and fried rice. The plain masala dosa could be more flavourful, though. I feel the aloo masala stuffing isn't flavourful enough. They have a chaat station on the patio during summer months. I like pani puri at the station. read more
