My sister lived a block away from Stacks a few years back, and we would always come here at least twice a month. What made it even better is the fact that my dad LOVES this places. "Let's go to Stacks!" is his line almost every weekend (I'm not kidding....) So after my sister moved, we still visit this place pretty often. When I come here, I always order the same thing: the Strawberry Waffle. Ever since the waffle and I were introduced to each other, I've been a devoted fan and order this and ONLY this at Stacks. Nothing's too special about it, but it's just REALLY GOOD! Other things I would recommend trying (which I tasted by taking bites off my family's plates) are: - Italian Scram (Mom ordered this one... I would recommend if you like Italian sausage!) - Banana Macadamia Nut & Coconut Pancakes (My dad's FAVE!!! I dont even like coconut, but YUM!) - Italian Fritatta (If the waffle didn't have me at "hello", would be my second go-to choice) - Chicken Apple Omelette.. err, Omelet (3rd go-to choice.. it's delicious!) I almost didn't eat at Stacks because of the lack of and difficulty of parking in Burlingame. To be fair, I'm sure all men, women, and children have this problem while shopping/eating in the area. A Look Around: Stacks is located around a really great shopping area..with pretty bad parking (I mentioned that already, didn't I?) Step inside Stacks and you'll notice a restaurant that looks like it tries to mimic a french cafe(ish). It's nothing too fancy but pretty nice. Actually, the first thing I noticed when I stepped into the restaurant was a big plate of food passing my face. It looked great! The portion size was definitely going to satisfy my hunger. What I Ordered: I ordered the special of the day: Pesto omelet What My Taste Buds Say: I shot myself in the foot by not ordering pancakes or waffles. I mean, who the hell goes into a restaurant called "STACKS" and not try something that is stacked? Well, apparently this guy. My bad, sorry guys. Anyhow, the omelet was dense and cheesy. I've never had Pesto with an omelet before so it was an interesting combination. The Pesto itself was as pungent as they could sometimes be so that was nice. As busy as this place is, they manage to turn around their tables quite fast...or at least they did on the day I went! I especially loved their Christmas decorations. It made the restaurant feel homey and inviting. First off, their potatoes are out of this world! I've never seen a place cut their potatoes the way Stacks does. It's seriously delish! Anyways, I ordered their Fresh Corned Beef with onions Skillet dish. It came with an egg on top and it was seriously good eats. I definitely need to come back the next time I'm in the Bay Area. You know... I was actually slightly disappointed with this place despite it getting rave reviews from all the people who absolutely adored it. I went on a Sunday morning, post Bay to Breakers race (after beating my friend while on a bum ankle... woot) with my friend, his cousin, and his cousin's fiancee, which apparently also happens to be the most crowded brunch time. They have free coffee and juice outside while you wait (the juice ran out, but there was plenty of decaf/non-decaf coffee around) which is kinda nice, given the 30-40+ minute wait we were out there. They also put a bunch of chairs out too, which is definitely useful after running for like an hour :) Everything inside the restaurant seems kinda sticky, because of all the syrup and jams they have... which is a little gross. Service took a while (partly because they were insanely busy with the Bay to Breakers crowd), and it took forever to get water/drinks/orders. The juice was freshly squeezed and really nice. The pancakes weren't even that impressive. Maybe they were having an off day, but maybe it was because I ordered the normal pancakes. I mean, they weren't bad, but it's not something I'd wait forever and a day in line for. My friend ordered an Italian frittata, which was quite good in combination with the pancakes, but might've been a bit too salty on its own. It had a nice mix of ingredients: spicy Italian sausage, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, black olives, marinara sauce, and mozzarella cheese, but I think some of the ingredients (aka the sausage, may have over-powered the dish). On the other hand, eaten with the bagel/potatoes it came with, made it worlds better. In summary, decent food, service could be better, maybe if it wasn't so crowded, this place might actually be nice. Wow. No small food here! Once I thought I'd play it safe and have the short stack of pancakes, after all there were only two. I had no idea they'd be 10" wide! I think the chorizo is house-made. I would have given this place one more star if the restaurant manager let us order minnie mouse pancakes from the kids menu. Can't a person connect with their inner-child every once in a while? (Note: the waitress said she would have let us do it if her manager hadn't just walked by. So I blame it on the manager) I would have understood if one of us was only ordering from the kids menu. However, we had already ordered a full meal each, and just wanted to add a kids pancake on top of that. The "kids menu only breaks even or loses money" argument doesn't hold here either. A single pancake from the adults menu (which we ended up having to order) is the same size overall as the minnie mouse pancake, and is ten cents cheaper. Oh well. Anyways. Minnie Mouse pancakes (or lack thereof) aside, Stacks is always a good place for brunch. Nomz. And as is always the case for Stacks, go early to avoid the line. I love breakfast food, and this place serves it! First of all, these are big portions we're talking so have a big appetite, share, or be prepared to take some home. I've been here a few times and I've always been satisfied. I try something new every time to get a variety and I'm happy with what I get. The recent things I ordered was the savory chicken crepe? It came with romaine salad and hashed potatoes, which are so yummmmm. Parking can be a big difficult, especially around lunch hours.. It took us almost half an hour to find parking in the garage and that's AFTER we drove around the blocks. Sometimes you get lucky and someone leaves right when you get there but man, I think that's the only downfall. Service could always be better. This was our first experience at this Stacks and it will be our last. We were completely underwhelmed and generally disappointed. The decor is almost kind of creepy with all the plastic plants everywhere. It looks like they wanted to make it look like you were outside in a park setting but really seemed like a theme restaurant that was trying too hard. I'm still not totally sure who our waiter was. A guy who seemed very nice came by to take our drink order, but we weren't quite ready yet which was a mistake since it took forever for him to come back. Eventually he did come back and took our order. A different woman brought out our drinks and my coke was completely flat. I flagged our guy down, told him and he brought another coke, which was also flat. He said he would have someone change out the carbonation. After what seemed like forever, a third person brought out our food. P was assured her crab sandwich didn't have any greens on it, that the salad was on the side. Turns out that wasn't the case. She likes the crab sandwich at the Stacks in RWC, but this one was a panini and overall wasn't very good. My bacon and onion skillet was decent, although it came with a plain buttered bagel. I asked for some cream cheese and got it. However, when we got the bill, there was a charge for it. Would have been nice to know that it wasn't going to be free. Woman #2 delivered our check (without a word) before I even got my coke. We had just barely started eating and were already feeling rushed. Nobody ever came back by to check on us again. It was a beautiful day where a friend and I decided to eat out at Stacks after a spontaneous hike. Once we got in the neighborhood of Burlingame, there was many people around and enjoying themselves on a day to spare for breakfast or lunch. So we eventually found parking and had a hungry tummy ready to chow down some new food! As we approached the front door, one of the employees opened the doors for us and welcomed us in to their restaurant. This kind gesture gentleman was a perfect way to make us feel welcomed. The restaurant had a good amount of people, but was not a packed house. He guided us to a two seat table in the middle, but my curious friend observed our surroundings and noticed that many seats are available else where and wanted to be seated by the wall. The gentleman looked at us in such grief and said "yes, that is fine as well, sit wherever you please" as my friend replied in thanks "Alright, thank you!" We both sat across from each other and recognized many kind gestures and great first impressions. We both agreed on the design of their environment and act of kindness. We were excited about what to expect about the food and opened our menus. I have ordered the Chocolate Divine and my friend ordered a Breakfast Basic choice (Sadly, I forgot the name of it). Before completing both of our orders, my friend wanted to replace her chopped potatoes with fruit or anything else. Our waitress seemed a little confused or pissed but agreed to get her order in with the replacement of fruit instead of chopped potatoes. Off our waitress went and on my friend and I jumped back into conversation. The time we waited for our food took approximately ten minutes which is a darn good time for food service within speed. Now quality is what we really came for. The quality of our food was absolutely amazing. Their food was up to our expectations of taste and freshness! Both of us were surprised about how delicious our food was. Their food is like sex in your mouth (Sorry for the over the top review, but man... their food was super good). Our waitress Larissa forgot the chopped potato's replacement and my friend did not realize that the food was not replace; instead, my friend ignored the chopped potatoes and left aside. Nearly half way through our plates, my friend realized that she never made the replacement of chopped potatoes with fruit. Eight minutes in eating and we were almost half way to clearing our plate. At that moment in time we both looked at each other and definitely agreed on coming back to 'Stacks', until the waitress came back and said "here is your check" and rudely reached over both of our food and put the check by the condiments by the wall, then just walked away. My friend and I was surprised about what she just did. We jumped into conversation immediately and wondered why she must have done that rude gesture. We do not know if it was the way we were dressed, if it was a racial stereotype, or maybe something we have said or done. We were absolutely confused; that being said, customer service supposed to be on top of their game. The young waitress Larissa never came back to our table and asked if we wanted to be assisted with anything else such as more water, or anything else to order. Perhaps dessert? Not at all! We were disgusted about the waitresses customer service and how we were treated. The way we were treated was like a coded way of "Once your done, just leave". After we ate our food, my friend decided to not leave a tip, but I felt like a little bad and gave a $1 tip. Although we were a little disappointed, we still enjoyed the food, but were very unsatisfied with our waitress Larissa. I would recommend this place to a friend due to the quality of their food, but will warn them about their Larissa's customer service as a waitress. Although we had a problem with one waitress does not mean other waiters/waitresses would have treated us negatively, so we will cut them some slack on behalf of that! My husband loves going out to breakfast so this is the perfect place for us. Stacks gets pretty busy over the weekends, however, they are good at turning over their tables. The longest I've waited is about 30-40 minutes on a Sunday morning. They have a couple of tables outside which is great for us. We have a little dog, she is allowed to be with us outside. The food...Yum! Between the two of us we always make sure to order their pancakes. Be sure to pay a little extra for the pure maple syrup, it's worth it. I personally like their pain short stack pancakes. It's perfect, light and fluffy, with a great taste at first bite. This know their pancakes are pretty big. So a full stack could feed a family of four, in my opinion. We've also had their Denver omelette, most of their egg scrambles, and I love their lox and bagel plate. Our group of 7 showed up for the last hour of their service, so the place was very empty, thus we had the waiter's attention all to ourselves. I ordered the apple sausage omelete. It was decent, but I wish there was a little more...bite to the dish. More meat would've been good; I was a bit underwhelmed by the amount and the overall composition of the sausage (sorry, Costco must've spoiled me). I did like that they buttered the toasted bagel for you, saving you the hassle of spreading the butter yourself. Service was great, but the food was just decent. Eh. There's always a huge line here. EVERY WEEKEND DURING BRUNCH. I'm all about great brunch places. I'm a super curious person. I'm down to see what all the hype about this place is. Count me it! Fast-forward to the morning where I actually decided to come try this place. I remember I woke up this morning extra early to go for a run to prepare myself for a hearty meal to replenish my nutrients. The wait was about 20 minutes--that's fine. There was complimentary coffee outside and benches/chairs to sit on. The cute dogs that many people bring with them to downtown Burlingame is always a favorite sight to see, so 20 minutes flew by pretty quickly for me. Yes, I love dogs. Anyways! Finally seated down at one of the booths...first thing I noticed and think to myself is, "WOWZERS, this....place is definitely full of...great decorations." I wish I had pulled my phone out to take a photo...but was too stunned at how cluttered all the walls and archways looked. The food. Ordered an eggs benedict. I cut into my eggs and yes the yolk oozes out just as it should. I cut a bit of the English muffin, scoop some of the hollandaise sauce onto my fork, and take a bite. It's. Okay. Not. Great. I come here every weekend with my family. I love the food and the service is quick (if not very personable). In particular the Pecan and Banana Waffles are awesome as well as the Mexican Omelette or Chorizo Scramble. Although, honestly, everything I've had here has been good. Follow your heart. Portions are generous! You will not leave hungry. If you want to avoid a wait come before 9:30 AM. The quality has gone downhill at Stacks. We ordered... Short stack of plain pancakes: these were fine, but our waiter forgot to give us syrup and other waiters weren't around for us to ask. Luckily a nice lady in a table next to ours offered hers. Corned beef skillet: barely any corned beef, way too much cheese. Also, there was 2 of us seated at a booth and the waiter didn't remove the other two sets of plates, utensils, and glasses that were not needed. I love breakfast, but not necessarily the breakfasts from here. They're pricey, which I guess is part of their Burlingame charm, but it's too dark inside and there are big dusty silk flowers. I think I would like it better eating outside. The French toast was good, BFF's omelet was very good, and so was the teenager's scramble. The coffee was mediocre, and I really like coffee. On the toast front, I love bagels and I eat them when I want a bagel, I don't understand why they serve them here instead of toast. Many a time I have gone to Stacks and ordered the killing banana macadamia nut pancakes and come out like Homer Simpson groaning with drool running down his chin. Everything is good here. Drive around Burlingame as we could not wait until SF to have breakfast and went to STacks as it is a sound bet. We knew my housemates were heading there and it was funny that we met them at the same time right in front. We changed the seating from 3 to 5. We all went out on a lim and tried the fritadas and it was a good bet on our part. I went with the mexican fritada which was okay but a nice change of pace. My gf chose the italian which was good including sausage and marinara. our Friend went with another one which wa a bit rich for me as it included applie sausage an smoked gouda. Very rich in cheese but he loved it. We also debated a pancake to split and went with a blue germ which later on as a bad idea as it left us overlly full the whole day, even when we were hungry we were still full from breakfast. I went to Stacks to eat lunch yesterday. Like other reviews said, there was a line of people outside waiting and yes, free sample size coffee! Though, I didn't have any cause I don't drink coffee. When I got there, I had to check in with the guy holding the waiting list. My friend drop me off to put my name on the waiting list but apparently you have to re-check in when your entire party is there. Waiting wasn't bad, maybe 10-15 mins. We re-checked in and were immediately seated. I liked how each table had a pitcher of water and we wouldn't have to wait for refills. My friend ordered tea and it came on a plate with tea bag, a small tea pot of hot water and a bottle of honey. I ordered the bacon avocado omlette. It came with a white bagel w/ butter on it and sliced um flat square potato slices. The omlette was pretty good. Yum. I'd order it again. My friend order the garden crepe and it looked pretty good . She didn't say anything bad about it and took it home so I guess that it was good too. Service was pretty good. We didn't have to wait for the check at all. In fact, they gave it to us early which might offend some but not us. I don't live in CA but I always come to Stacks when I'm in town for work or visiting my brother. In fact, on my last trip my family and I came here twice in 3 days. That's how good it is! The first time we came, I ordered the apple chicken sausage omelet with gouda. It was yummy although the Crab Louis that my mom and brother ordered looked (and tasted) sooo much better. So that's what I ended up ordering the second time around. The omelet wasn't phenomenal so I'll write about the Crab Louis. What can I say about the Crab Louis other than the fact that it's like heaven on a plate. I'm not kidding. You start off with the traditional english muffin, followed by spinach, and then...oh my...and then, mounds of super delicious dungeness crab, followed by the best tasting hollandaise sauce you will ever encounter! Writing about it just makes my mouth water....mmmm, Crab Louis...oh how I wish I could have you just one more time! Most of the breakfast items comes with a side of potatoes and fruit salad or bagel. The potatoes here are seasoned with a bit of parsley and dill, I think. And they are not greasy at all which is another thing I absolutely LOVE about this place. Awesome place for brunch/lunch! Went with a group of 7. We were seated in about 15 minutes at lunchtime on a Sunday without a reservation. Plenty of chairs and benches and free coffee and tea while we waited. The portions are generous and reasonably priced. My husband liked his french toast, and the chicken apple sausages were good also. I loved my king crab panini. A little bit heavy, but very tasty. I also subbed the salad for fries, which were thin and delicious. Everyone else in our party enjoyed their food also, and all of their dishes looked really good. Upon arriving to Stack's, the first thing I noticed was out the front door. There was complimentary coffee & tea for the people who were waiting to be seated & once inside I noticed that the Christmas decor was wonderful. The wait was appx. 10 minutes, even though the hostess told us 5. But that to be expected considering that the place was obviously buzzing with customers. The hash browns were unique & were the best that we've ever had, however the pancakes were terrible. For a place calling itself Stack's, we really expected a lot more. They were big in size, but completely lacked flavor. The wait staff had smiles on their faces & showed a sense of urgency to seat people, but the manager appeared flustered and ineffective. Overall I enjoyed my meal, but most likely won't make a return visit. IHOP is more down to earth, cheaper & their food taste much better. I tell all my friends about it and how we must go there to have their taste buds blown away. Must order: - Chocolate Divine Waffle: best waffles i've ever had. the chocolate is really melted and rich. so that the chocolaty flavor is throughout the whole waffle plus the whipped cream is amazinggg. - Eggs Benedict/Eggs Florentine: huge portions. eggs are poached just perfectly, gooey yoke inside plus the hollandaise is delicious. the side order of potatoes is also wonderfully buttery. very large portions. Hearty quality breakfast, well-priced, and extremely nice servers. I'm surprised that people have had such bad experiences but the service has always been incredible. The wait can be a tad ridiculous so I suggest coming before 11am or after 1pm. read more

Mmm, bayyyycon It's not the first place I'd turn to for a meal, but it's a great place to go that will have high probability of pleasing everyone. I think it's me, not them. I'm constantly looking for new types of food to try. This place makes good classics, but I wouldn't call everything great or different or yummy. Just above average. Banana wheat germ pancakes and blueberry germ pancakes... I LOVE Stacks pancakes :) The different varieties of skillet and omelets are equally delicious... YUM, hot links skillet! It's great how they have coffee and ice tea outside for the customers while they wait to be seated. We decided to come here with a group of friends from college since we didn't want to stress over parking in SF. Glad my friend pointed that out b/c we were all able to find parking pretty quickly. Went to Stacks on the weekend of the 49ers playoff game, everyone was decked out in 9ers gear!! Parking is plentiful. They have hot coffee outside while you wait, which on this busy Sunday at around 1030, was only about 15 minutes for K and I. Which was a nice touch in my opinion. We finally sat down and unfortunately, I could not enjoy the endless coffee they seemed to be serving. Our server was very nice, we couldn't make up our mind because they had so much to choose from and he came back at least 3 times to check up on us to see if we were ready to order. K ended up getting strawberry belgian waffles, served with as much maple syrup as she'd like and whip cream. It was very tasty, light, fluffy and pretty darn good. One of the better ones that i've had. I had a bacon scramble, pretty good, large portions with plenty of bacon in it. Served with a bagel and homefries, the homefries were nothing to write home about. Stacks was A-Ok, just like Yelp describes. Nothing that stood out and nothing that let me down. It wouldn't be a place I would visit again or go out of the way to get to but I wouldn't turn it down if someone chose this place as the brunch place. Simply A-Ok! read more

Ok so Im a big fan of breakfast and was excited to try this place, all in all yumm! You have to try the Banana coconut macadamia pancake, probably one of the best tasting pancakes I have ever had! I also ordered the salmon egg white scramble which was very tasty! The potatoes were just ok and the latte was ok/good. I would return for more, I am intrigued to try another dish! read more

I've been meaning to try Stacks for the longest time, and I'm so glad I finally did! Since our first visit, my boyfriend and I have been here three times already! This place is a gem - and not to mention, walking distance from home. The staff are very courteous and attentive, returning frequently to check on you and refill your drinks. The ambiance is cozy - feels like your grandma's house - overrun with fake plants, baroque statues, and art without being tacky (so yes, it's very cute). Most tables and booths are spacious, save for the select few that are scrunched in near the entrance. To date, we absolutely LOVE: - Old Fashioned Strawberry Belgian Waffle w/ Whipped Cream: My all-time favorite! The waffles are so rich and fluffy! - All Meat Super Omelette (Ham, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, onions, diced tomatoes, cheddar-jack cheese, sour cream, and chives.) - Chorizo Scramble (Chorizo, green chilis, onions, black olives, guacamole, sour cream, with salsa on the side) - Plain Short Stack: The servings are HUGE. You could easily split these between two people. Other tips: - Parking is metered on the weekdays, free on Sundays. Residential parking in the surrounding areas (parallel to Burlingame Ave.) is free, so take a moment to look around! - Waits can be pretty long on the weekends, 20+ minutes if you get there after 10 AM. Arrive an hour or two earlier, and you will be rewarded with instantaneous seating! ;) While waiting, they do have a coffee station, so you'll be sure to keep warm. - Make a day of it! Stacks is located right off Burlingame Ave.'s main drag. Check out the boutiques and shops before or after your meal. It's pretty lively during the day, and a nice place to shop around. ;) read more

The food service is usually decent, however my past two visits havent been as joyous. One being my fault for being adventurous.. Act 1. Hey, lets not go with eggs blackstone... lets try carnitas pancakes! now my idea of carnitas pancakes are carnitas in the batter, what I got was pancakes with carnitas piled on top.. I was able to stomach two bites of it and put my plate to the side. A waitress came by and checked on us, she saw my dismay but didnt do a damn thing about it. I ate from my friends plate and enjoyed his chicken salad instead. Act 2. I went with my friends and decided to play it safe and a got chorizo scram... What I got was a chorizo scram with a pube in my sour cream.. I was disgusted, i immediately stood up and told a server. I and she came out with a new cup of sour cream... now I was still disgusted, and I barely ate half of my plate. The best breakfast I've had in weeks. Since the last time I came, it has only gotten better. My omelette was SO DELICIOUS AND SO GOOD I was bummed I had to split it with someone! Our waiter was very kind and friendly and made sure we were happy with our meals. I told him not to worry about adding a bagel with my omelette since I knew I wouldn't have room and he happily replaced it with fruit. The server was very nice. My mom and I got seated at the far booth by the restroom but it didn't affect our experience. We ordered the chicken dumplings with sandwich (Wednesday lunch special), crab frittata and blueberry wheat German pancakes. They were all amazing!! I not only love the ambiance but the food was better than I expected even though the wait for the food took a little long (we dined around 12ish) The hollandaise sauce was so good I ate the whole thing and I would definitely go back!
