The food in and of itself was good. The atmosphere is what has made me give this restaurant 2 stars. There is hardly any room to stand/wait for a table or bar stool, never mind space for the waitresses to move through and serve their customers. My daughter and I waited for about 35 minutes before being seated. Even then, there is no process for being seated. People who came in after us, were seated first because they were standing near the available stools. This is a local place, so if you are from the area definitely check it out, otherwise there are probably better establishments in the area to visit. read more

Star diner has been around forever and it has always been quality quality QUALITY! I mean, what you see is what you get - delicious grill, counter seating, 4 tables. It's small and perfect!! If you don't see a free table just wait, the turn over for tables is quick so you should be ok to wait (have a grilled corn muffin on the grill). The counter is fun too. They sell everything (get potatoes on your egg sandwich!!) and the staff/vibe is family like! My fav waitress calls almost everyone 'mami/papi' - it's great! I love this place! Why? Nostalgia...that's why. These old school diners are hard to find nowadays. We went on a very busy Saturday morning. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left it was packed. We sat at the counter and had people standing around us the whole time either waiting for a table or waiting for food to go. It seems there could be a better system in place for this, but the owner is on top of it all. He's aware of all of his customers and makes sure that each one is promptly served. So if you are the claustrophobic type, maybe this is not the place for you. So why not five stars? Well, the food is OK.... Not very outstanding. We were passing through White Plains and stopped at this tiny diner. The waiter was very friendly and the food came out quickly. The staff have a great rapport with their customers. It was fun to sit at the counter and watch the chefs at work. We had a Tuna Melt which was great (the bread was toasted perfectly), a grilled cheese, and a side of fries. Star Diner is EVERYTHING a diner is supposed to be. It is authentic and the food is delicious. The cooks are right behind the counter cooking your food right in front of you. I usually order a grilled cheese with bacon and home fries well done, or a cheese burger with a chocolate milkshake (very nice and old fashion.) I have had other things on the menu including soup, it has all been GOOD! It is in a little trailer in a not so great area of White Plains, but this is a weekly lunch stop for me and it will be for as long as possible. read more

I ordered mozzarella sticks from here with a group of coworkers and wouldn't have expected much from a late night diner, but I saw the four stars on Yelp and thought these might have been homemade and super tasty. These might have been homemade I have no idea but they definitely tasted like they had been frozen, thrown in a deep fat fryer, and served. The dipping sauce was super basic. They did screw up our order and left a coworker without their meal and we had to go back for it, so that's a negative as well. I rated this place a three star because if I'd done a two star I would consider it a place I'd never return, and I can't say that I wouldn't try a different dish from Star given the high ratings that others have given. read more

I had an OK breakfast at Star Diner. My spinach and mushroom omelette came out really fast but the eggs were very browned. Mayeb too fast with too my heat? A little slower on the cooking end might have produced a better product. The coffee was good and the service was friendly. Best corn beef hash I have had in quite some time. The gentlemen working the grill knew what he was doing and cooked everything really well. This is a diner with all of the standards done pretty well. The food is good but not spectacular. But the place itself is the thing: an old 50s diner car that somehow got swallowed up into the neighboring buildings, complete with counter service, chrome, and staff and customers out of Central Casting. The Star Diner is not your typical diner, it is old fashioned and small kind of like something you would imagine and expect to see from the Midwest back in the 1970's. Now lets get to the good part, that is obviously the amazing food, which makes my mouth water . The place is set up in a way where you can see the cooks busy at work as you smell the fresh breakfast plates being cooked. Went there a couple weeks ago. I had an egg-white omelette with mushrooms & swiss cheese. It was very good. The omelette was moist. That might sound weird but I've had omelettes at other diners that were dry. This one was very good. My gf had a chicken gyro. She really enjoyed it. The chicken was hot & tender and it had a nice flavor to it. (I had to take a bite!) The staff seem like nice, hardworking people. The place itself has old-school character. Went here because of the ratings and was not disappointed. This place just has so much character. It's fun sitting at the bar and watching the cooks make the food. I had onion rings (crispy, not oily! what a rare thing, that alone), mushroom omelet with house fries (flavorful, well made, delicious), an egg//cheese sandwich (it was alright), and a cup of coffee.
