We dropped by the Loft Steak accidentally and that delighted our stomach . Free salad when you ordered entree or main course. Overall the food is good except Slide Beef Sandwich was over cooked. Had a few good meals here in the past but last nights meal was awful sorry to say. Ordered an appetizer of potato skins with broccoli bacon and cheddar. Seemed as though they were pre-cooked and reheated, they were dry and the cheese was burnt and solid, not fresh and gooey as cheese should be. Pretty bad and not worth eating. Ordered as my meal spare ribs and onion rings. Came with a side salad, raspberry mustard vinaigrette dressing sounded good but was bland and tasteless. Didn't taste like raspberry OR mustard. Lots of lettuce and not a lot else. Ribs were dry as a bone. Overcooked, not juicy and falling off the bone as they should be. Mango bbq sounded good on these but they were so dry sauce was non-existent. Onion rings probably were good they looked like they were had they not been also overcooked, dry and practically burnt. Stopped into the bar area with family for the quick bites menu. Was told the AC wasn't working. The place only had 2 small fans for the whole bar area. Saw customers leaving and customers arguing over the fan. The staff looked miserable and like they were about to pass out. Apparently management was aware of this issue. If you are aware make sure you have proper fans in place or close the bar area. It was a 90 + degree day out. Just a bad dining experience. Do better! Subpar experience. Haven't been here in a while. Prices went up as expected but that didn't play any role into rating. Neither did the fact that the salad bar wasn't open.. it took so unbelievably long for our food to come out. Our waitress, who I believed was also serving in the bar, wasn't present when the food actually did come out so maybe they were understaffed but I have no idea how long our food sat back there. Used to go there about 30 years ago and it was delicious. Was in the area so i went for dinner. First of all, I think the carpet and furnishings were the same. Dark and gloomy. Secondly, I think it's time to remove the awards that are posted along the walls dating back to the late 80's. Had chowder that tasted like it came from a can, not restaurant made. Rolls were crusty on the sides like they had been left out. The tenderloin was neither tasty or tender. Mashed potatoes were good. Surprised this only had like 3 stars on yelp. Servers were very nice and the food was excellent. My friends and I each had ordered cocktails which were great. We didn't have to wait too long for the food. I had fried shrimp and steak. The "double baked" potato was really good! This is a place I would come back to if I didn't leave so far away. read more

I don't even know where to begin, everything is outdated from the decor to the waitresses hair. You walk in and immediately it is musty like I stepped into a time machine that took me back to the 70s. My friends and I sat down and took one look at the menu, holy crap is it expensive. We all ordered either the Salisbury steak, or the meatloaf because they were the cheapest on the menu. My Salisbury steak was literally a hamburger with gravy and mushrooms on it. AWFUL. Mashed potatoes needed salt but even something was off about the salt. Friends who had the meatloaf were very unsatisfied. Literally said they had better meatloaf at Boston market... I can't believe I paid about 18 dollars for the Salisbury steak yuck... overall I will never go back here again, it's almost comical how they can call themselves a restaurant. Time to close down ugh. I used to go here as a child and the place was packed ALL the time. Tonight I went with my niece. The kitchen closes at 10 on a saturday! There was no live band. There was maybe 10 to 15 people in the restaurant. We ordered within 5 minutes of sitting down as it was 9 pm and we knew the kitchen closed at 10. What did we order: 2 side ceasar salads, 2 baked potatoes and we split the teriyaki steak. It took TWENTY minutes to get the salads. Let alone, our waitress also the bartender disappeared during this time. At 9:25 we got the salads. Ate those, little to no salad dressing on them and again waitress went missing and never asked how the salads were...and then we waited...again for the rest of our food. At 9:45 the food came out. The steak was smaller than a ny strip steak that I can buy here in the local market in my town. And the teriyaki sauce was watered down and had onions or something floating in it. The baked potato.....was a microwaved potato. As I ate it...I realized part of it was rotten. See picture below. I asked for check. 55 dollars!!!!! I put my cash out to pay and the waitress took it and cashed me out. She came back with my change and went to go take my plate and I said "you may want to let your chefs know to check the potatoes before they put rotten ones on peoples plate!" "Ohhh im sorry. You should have said something before i cashed you out. Let me go talk to the manager." She come back "can i get u some dessert on the house?" No. What that manager should have done was voided the check and given me the cash back. Instead that waitress who was the master of a disappearing act -got a crappy tip. This is a good solid place for a steak and salad bar. This place is owned by the same folks who own Go Fish (which is next door). So if you are in the area and want steak, go to Steak Loft, if you want seafood, go to Go Fish...though both places serve a broad selection of beef, chicken and seafood. Good value for money, quick seating (the place is big), and good steak selection makes this a place with broad appeal. The bar here is very nice visually and has a good New England feel. Very friendly and open and with a wide number of seats around the bar. A good selection of beers on tap, but not a lot of the real craft beer variety...but some winners like Widmer Wheat beer or Long Hammer IPA. All meals come with limitless visits to the salad bar. This salad bar is one of the exceptional features of Steak Loft, so I tend to go here for a meal when I am really hungry and want to have some greens with my steak. read more

This restaurant is conveniently located very close to the interstate exit. There is plenty of parking around the location. As you enter the foyer we were greeted by a host. There is a large bar to the left and a large restaurant to the right. We were seated quickly and the waitress was very friendly and efficient. The restaurant has a very nice salad bar that came with all of our meals. We ordered and the food came out within about 10-15 minutes. I ordered the barbecue ribs and they were delicious. Stay in Darien, westchester, watch hill, or the cape. A bad review for decor? Really? It's called rustic. Could you not tell from the outside that this is how it'd look? It's a giant $&@!ing barn!!!! Go somewhere else if you're looking for white table clothes and waiters in tuxedos. High prices? Have you been to a steak house that serves quality meat? Steak Lofts steaks are on par with places like Mortons, Ruth's Chris, and Capitol Grille. Go there, and then tell me how you feel about the prices. Yea, roughly $30 for filet minion. That's standard. And most places are a la cart. Here, you get sides, and arguably the best salad bar you'll ever have. Limited salad bar? You can't make this statement with a straight face unless you never even walked up to the salad bar. Ruby Tuesdays would be a limited salad bar. This one even has a full antipasto w/ meat and cheese, which you really won't find at any other salad bar. Plus they use real bacon bits, as every place should, but it's one of the more important aspects. I'm not sure what these people were looking for, but the only more extensive salad bars are at Brazilian steakhouses, and that's only because they want you to fill up before the all you can eat steak. Im writing a review here because I think this place has been taking a beating when it deserves a little more then the negative feedback I have seen. I see people saying things such as "Outdated Decor" "Overpriced" and much more. I start with this the location is part of the Mystic village which offers and old time feel in its own so the Rustic features which were personally appealing to me, Fit the rest of the areas shops and buildings with the lay out and feel. Dining area was very quaint and fit the mood of a moderately price restaurant and no foul smells of any kind on my visit in fact I got hit in the face with the smell of steak being cooked on the grill. Both my wife and I ordered steak that was cooked to brilliance and she also had shrimp with it that was grilled. All of this was absolutely fantastic. To quote my wife, "This is what you want steak to taste like when you order it everywhere but you never get it". We also both had the salad bar being a delightful treat before our entree filled with fresh ingredients and I must say there house dressing is excellent. To cap off our visit we had the Tuxedo Chocolate Cake that was layered with tons of flavor kind of like a tiramisu without the coffee flavor that was to die for. As far as prices are concerned yes the prices are higher then average but its to be expected being apart of the tourist attraction area. The differnces that I see are sometimes you pay these prices and you don't get what you pay for but here you get exactly what you pay for so knowing that its in a touristy place expect higher then average prices but excellent food. To speak on the negatives I had. As far as our entrees they were excellent however I find that even though they knock it out of the park with my steak and such like most places they fall short with the sides. I had the steak fries and it always amazes me how a place can do so well with certain things and not get fries right. Don't get me wrong they were not horrible but they were average like frozen fries. My thought is why not cut your own and really offer a treat that probably is cheaper and twice as good. Worst restaurant I have ever been to!!! I wanted to go to a nice restaurant for my birthday weekend and I sincerely regret the decision to go here. The food was horrendous. The prices are RIDICULOUS--$18 for Salisbury steak!!! I didn't even want that but I hadn't checked the prices before I went. Waitress asked me how I wanted my "steak" (burger patty) cooked and then laughed when I said Medium-rare because apparently there's only one way to actually make it? The best part of the meal was the bread at the salad bar and that's being generous. The restaurant is very outdated and dreary inside as well. I've gotten better food/ better quality food at McDonald's and Taco Bell. I should have checked the other reviews and prices before deciding to go here. DO NOT WASTE TIME. I what have given zero stars if that was an option. We arrived at a very quiet restaurant receded in a remote corner in a huge room with no other patrons. Another party was seated not far from us shortly after. This table received immediate service, had water delivered, had to drink orders taken and delivered while we sat and waited with no one coming to help us. We ordered salads, soup, and entrees. Our drinks were ok. Limited wine list. The salads were large and very satisfying. Perfect amount of dressing. The bread was a bit dry and the soup was a bit cool. The main course was only fair. Had to send one of the meals back for being cold. The sides were the best part of the meal. Steak Loft's waitstaff are known for their longevity, working at the Steak Loft for 20-30 years, or longer. On that evening, we didn't order from the quick bites menu; we all ordered entrees (their dinner entrees come with the salad bar), so, let's start with the salad bar. The Steak Loft salad bar provides numerous varieties of fresh, crisp, lettuce; and large plates of raw veggie options. While Steak Loft is known for their delicious creamy garlic salad dressing; their blue cheese salad dressing is equally impressive, creamy, and with large chunks of yummy blue cheese crumbles. The Steak Loft's antipasti salad remains a 10. There was a nice variety of beautiful pasta salads, breads, and other accompaniments on the salad bar; two visits later, and I realized, I needed to save some room for my dinner. : ) My sliced garlic steak arrived shortly thereafter; medium as ordered, grilled perfectly, tender, buttery, and flavorful; the steak juices soaking into the tasty toasted garlic bread, underneath. A horrible experience from pillar to post. Waitress treated us like second class citizens. Salad bar is limited. Ordered steak and shrimp. Asked what type of steak and she told me sirloin. That's it, sirloin. Anyway, received a thick chunk of London broil, and three jumbo shrimp which are butterflied in the shell so you have to dig them out. Truly a major disappointment by all means. I love the ambience of this restaurant. Very old school rustic charm in a great way. From steak to sea food great flavor and great value. I do miss the Salad bar though. I gave Steak Loft another try and again it didn't live up to my past experiences. Steak Loft used to be my absolute favorite restaurant in Mystic but it has gone downhill since COVID (maybe a little before that). This visit was in August 2022 -- NO AC -- are you freaking kidding me! I'm shocked they were permitted to even be open! Our waitress was great but clearly hot because of no AC. The salads were good but the meat was just okay (we ordered tenderloin and it was fatty). I thought the place smelled like urine, likely due to the lack of AC. My prediction is that Steak Loft will close its doors and another restaurant will eventually open up there. I'm saddened by what Steak Loft has become. read more
