Steve's Meltdown is where we tend to stop at the Foundry when we can't decide where else to go. Not the most amazing or novel food you'll ever eat, but it tends to hit the spot. Everything is made to order, and it seems to be a one man operation most days, so expect to wait a little bit. On our last visit I tried their Buffalo Springfield grilled cheese. Their Buffalo sauce wasn't my favorite- it was a bit bland, even as somebody with a low spice tolerance. I'm a fan of their Cheeseburger grilled cheese at the Chesterfield location, so I wish they had it as an option here. My bf tried their special for the month and didn't have any complaints. Wish their sandwiches came with fries, but a basket is more than enough to split between 2. They're always fresh and crispy, so we'll pick them up even if we're getting an entree at another booth. As with the rest of the Food Hall, there is plenty of seating around. read more

So many places to choose from at the foundry and I usually end up at the same one each time, but this time my teen wanted to try the place that specializes in mac and cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches. If it were up to me it would be five stars, my daughter wasn't crazy about the mac and cheese however. She liked the pizza part of it but said the mac and cheese tasted like it was out of a box. That disappointed her. We loved the garlic cheese curds. The garlic is what set them apart. We agreed that we would definitely go again, we will likely both go with sandwiches and share some fries or cheese curds again. We had to wait maybe 10 or 15 minutes on the food, but it was served hot and fresh. I was not frustrated by the wait and staff were friendly. We were there during the day so there was space to sit out in the open. Will definitely return! read more

Steve's Meltdown at the Foundry is what I would have wanted at a mall food court when I was ages 5 through, well, probably through my death. I've been twice and I could stand to go two times a month at least. The War Figs Grilled Cheese is what I've ordered on both visits. The menu says: "toasted sourdough with fig jam, goat cheese, white cheddar, bacon and balsamic glaze. Served with fig jam on the side for dipping." I have the employees hold the bacon from this sandwich. It is the best! Perfectly sweet, creamy, and salty. Several vegetarian sandwiches are sold, but I like fig. The sandwich takes 7-8 min to cook. That's enough time for a quick walk outside or for a visit to shops or to Poptimism for a dessert-first experience. read more

One of our favorite spots at City Foundry, Steve's Meltdown was a big hit for our grilled cheese loving family! We came by on a Friday night around dinner and they were one of the busiest stalls at the food hall. Service was efficient and the staff taking orders was friendly and patient with our questions as first time visitors. Since there were a lot of customers, there was a bit of a wait, but without a doubt, the food was worth every second. If you're looking for a good eat at the Foundry, Steve's Meltdown won't disappoint. Our order consisted of the Sweet Caroline Grilled Cheese, Buffalo Springfield Grilled Cheese, and a side of Krinkle Fries. As grilled cheese lovers, both of these sandwiches were fantastic. I loved the Sweet Caroline and was drawn to it for the Brie, apple slices, and cranberry jam. Such a unique twist to a grilled cheese, but it all worked perfectly together. My husband had the Buffalo Springfield and could not stop raving about it. We would recommend either of these two sandwiches. The fries complemented the sandwiches well. They were the perfect size to share with someone else. Steve's Meltdown made a strong first impression. It was one of our favorite eats in St. Louis. I used to live in STL and always stop by the food hall when I'm in town. This was a new stop for me and I got the Mac n cheese and the fig grilled cheese. The Mac n cheese was just okay, a little watery so it lacked that cheesy flavor. The grilled cheese was good but I wish the fig jam would've come already on the sandwich rather than on the side. Went to the City Foundry last night before going to the movies. I always have a hard time deciding what I want and decided to try this place. I ordered the sweet Caroline and fries although the Mac and cheese sounded good too! Sandwich took a few minutes to make but was made fresh and was delicious. Ooooooooh, omg you gotta try this spot.. just trust me! This is definitely a place for my foodies! So basically there's like different types and flavors of grilled cheese sandwiches. We decided to do the war figs, which had white cheese, bacon, and fig jam as well as the That's Amore which is a pizza inspired sandwich. I didn't think I would like war figs but that was probably my favorite because I'm a sucker for sweet and salty combos. They were buttery and perfectly cooked. It's located inside of City Foundry, so you can order your food and find a spot to sit. I can't wait to go back, it was so good! I ordered the war figs grilled cheese, and it was delicious! I didn't think I was going to like dipping it in the fig jam but it was sooo good, I kept coming back to the jam. The fries were fresh and crispy, and the worker was very nice and greeted me as I walked up. They also have Excel products to drink, which I love strawberry ski so that was also a plus. I enjoyed the Sweet Caroline the other day and cannot stop talking about it. I am so glad that Steve's Meltdown is in the Foundry now because this will be a location I will visit often. While they are known for the grilled cheese sandwiches, they also offer macaroni and cheese which I will need to try next time! When my friend and I went here for lunch, we each ordered a grilled cheese and we shared a basket of fries which was the perfect size for us to split. Highly recommend grabbing lunch of dinner here. Not sure if I came here on a bad night or what, but I was not impressed with my visit here. I really wanted to love this place, especially because of all the great reviews so far, but I feel like I would've been better off just making some grilled cheeses at home! When I saw that Steve's Meltdown is from the same family of restaurants as Steve's Hot Dogs and The Fountain on Locust, I got really excited. I am an avid Fountain on Locust visitor, and I regularly recommend it to everyone I know. I ALWAYS order their Royal Grille, which is their adult grilled cheese with white cheddar, mozzarella, and Fuji apple slices on whole grain wheat bread. As a result, I had very high hopes for my visit to Steve's Meltdown. I decided to order the Sweet Caroline, as it seemed like an exciting twist to my classic Royal Grille from The Fountain on Locust. It was pretty good, but my boyfriend and I had some issues. He ordered the That's Amore Grilled Cheese, and we both noticed that our sandwiches were cold, and the cheese wasn't quite melted in some spots. If the sandwiches had been cold just in the center, I would've had a bit more understanding. But when the first bite is cold, that's not an ideal grilled cheese experience! My Sweet Caroline was overall warmer than my boyfriend's sandwich, but still not the best. Seemed to be missing the "melt" part of MELTdown! The employees were not unwelcoming or rude by any means, but not notably friendly or personable either. Just a very average experience. We ordered our sandwiches at the order counter and waited less than 10 minutes for our name to be called at the pick-up counter. Pretty quick service, especially with all the crowds at the City Foundry on a Friday night, so no complaints there! Overall, I just find it a bit difficult to justify spending almost $30 on a side of fries and two grilled cheeses that didn't completely wow us. I absolutely love this restaurant's concept idea and that they offer unique and fun flavor options for a classic food item, but maybe I'll wait to revisit after this place isn't so new. I would also consider trying their mac and cheese next time, too. read more

We came here on Good Friday so we needed an option without meat. We ordered the forever young adult grilled cheese and the sweet Carolina grilled cheese. Both of them are very good and cheesy. For what it was and not to get a side with it it was a little expensive, considering there was no meat involved. But that's what we needed for the day so it worked. I was super excited to try Steve's Meltdown in City Foundry with my daughter. I appreciated the kids meal options as the Foundry food court isn't honestly that kid friendly. Very few restaurants actually offer this so I was happy to see it. She chose the pizza mac and cheese while I got the Sweet Caroline and we shared some cheese fries. We only waited about 5 minutes or so for our food to come out hot and fresh. My daughter ate her mac in about 30 seconds she loved it! The Sweet Caroline was a great combination of sweet and savory. Every single employee there is AMAZING! The names of all of their items are HILARIOUS! Their kids menu had two different choices between "I don't know" and "I don't care" (one was Mac n cheese and the other was a grilled cheese). And the Mac n cheese itself was awesome!
