StingRay's was amazing... they obviously had other seated customers there, but we only waited for 2-3 minutes before we were seated. We were able to place our order within about 6-8 minutes... drinks came in a couple minutes and appetizer soon after. We got the Fisherman's Platter for two... it was really so tasty... and there was more than enough food. I've read a few reviews that commented about having to wait in long lines... wait for food... I can't speak to that, I'm sure there was some truth to those comments... but I can say that was NOT our experience. Besides taking our order, our server stopped by the table 4 more times to check on us, without a particular cause, just being an attentive server... I was thrilled and can't say enough good things... the staff was all very pleasant in their interactions with other tables as well. Kudos to the StingRay's team... well done indeed! read more

The french fries are really good there, they have condiments on the table, along with paper towels, which I like. Up front, I want to say that this review is based on two separate visits by several different family members who all had a less than sub-par experience. A little over three weeks ago, we had a very large 30 person family vacation to Tybee over a long weekend. The first group to eat was a party of seven. They reported that the wait was an hour to be seated and 1. They ordered drinks, one said the sweet tea was horrible and had to ask for another drink, 2. They ordered. Two of them got a seafood boil to share, which was supposed to have crab legs, shrimp, sausage, corn, and some other type of seafood. Mussels, maybe. Their platter didn't have shrimp. They let the waitress know, to which the waitress apologized, said she would get it and went to the kitchen. When she returned, she brought a plate of shrimp and told them that when she told the cooks they left of off the platter the cooks told her they knew they had. 3. The entire group (different orders from fish tacos, to boils) said the food was very bland and barely seasoned, they asked for more seasoning just to give it some flavor. On a separate visit, the second party (different customers) to eat at Stingrays reported that the food was horrible, dry and bread was hard as a rock. They were all disappointed and disgusted at paying good money for terrible meals. Maybe it was a bad weekend? Who knows. But for several people to all have bad reports, something is definitely a miss. I'm not sure why this place gets the hype that it does, but from personal experience, you'd be much happier going to Chamacos right across the road! Excellent seafood! We were in Savannah for a long weekend and this was by far the best fish we had! I had the fried fish, which was grouper. It was fresh and tasty. The coating was nice and thin and no breadiness to it. It was probably the best fried fish I've ever had. My sister had the tuna steak which she said was excellent. The beer is ice cold! Around now, the summer crowds have died down, leaving the beach empty so we just about had the place to ourselves. There was no wait and we were seated on the patio immediately. We ordered the steamed clams and the fish tacos which were each about $9. As for the environment, I felt like I was in that old film The Birds. They were loud, had us surrounded and just waiting on the seat across from me for a stray crumb. If you have a fear of birds, I do not recommend the patio. First the steamers arrive. Simultaneously, my mother and I look at each other a little stunned. About 10 tiny little clams on a cold plate with a little seasoning on them but weren't flavorful. Perhaps we are spoiled in Seattle but it usually comes in a broth or strategically set to look like it could pass for a meal. Lost some points there. But we were hungry and the clams were gone before the birds could even get a good look at them. The tacos tasted good, a reasonable portion and a side of tasty fries. They were made from deep fried grouper fish and came with a house made chipotle type sauce that gave them a lot more flavor. The service was meh. I've gotten more friendliness from an automated self checker at Walmart. The thing that really hurt the ratings for me, foam plates, plastic-wear and foam cups. It just hurt the overall experience. Stingrays was complete and udder asscheeks, I'm gonna start with how the service was terrible it took 20 mins just to get our drinks and then another 40 minutes to get our food and the guy singing made my ears bleed while we were there, and the food is overpriced and not worth it at all. Get the Tybee Fishermans Platter! It comes with a shit ton of crab legs and shrimp (and I mean a ton - I was so full). I thought there was a biiiiit too much Old Bay on it which made it quite salty, but the seafood was fresh and I thought it was a great deal. As for drinks, the margarita and Bloody Mary were both yum. Do NOT get the banana drink...it kind of looks like vomit and did not taste good. Great food, great drinks and super great service! Very affordable. For apps, we ordered the smoked fish dip and fried mac n cheese. They were both excellent. The sauce that came with the fried mac m cheese was incredibly tasty with a little spicy kick to it. The fish dip was surprisingly tasty and came with club crackers. Will definitely try that again. The margarita was delightful and the beer was ice cold. We enjoyed the seafood for dinner. The scallops were perfect. The crab cakes were delicious and the fried fish was great with the vinegar. Even loved the tiny hush puppies. Danielle was a phenomenal server. She gave us just the right amount of attention and was incredibly nice and helpful even when we asked her questions not related to the restaurant. If I was giving a review just for the server, I would give him five stars, he was very nice and was busting his butt taking care of everybody at the bar. But the food is a different story, the blackened redfish sandwich my husband had was delicious. My friend had a salad with shrimp, the shrimp was cold and lacked flavor. Her husband had the steamed plater everything on it was terribly over cooked and over spiced. I had the half pound snow crab legs that were over cooked and a ton of old bay dumped on it. My boyfriend and I stopped in for lunch while visiting the Tybee Lighthouse. I had asked one of the girls at the gift shop if they were going to eat seafood, where would they go personally and they said Sting Ray's. And since we were on the coast, I definitely wanted seafood. We arrived but weren't sure if the hostess stand was for outside or inside. We wanted to sit inside since it was cold and windy but there wasn't a hostess. I think the server was the server and hostess for the whole restaurant? After waiting a few minutes, we decided to step inside at which time the one server I saw had just left a table and walked by us and greeted us. With a friendly smile she said we could sit wherever we wanted inside and she would bring us menus. Even though she was busy, our server was nice and friendly and always apologized if there was a longer delay in between her visits to our table. But she kept checking on us with smiles and friendly chatter and we never had an empty glass so her service was excellent in our book! I order the "Stingshooter" which was just an oyster shot made with Absolut Peppar vodka but you got to keep their signature shot glass afterwards which is why I ordered it - I collect shot glasses from places I visit. They also had two beers on the menu that they donate to the military and their families, which is why my boyfriend selected one. That was definitely pretty cool of them. We chose the steamed seafood platter and a side of hush puppies to substitute for the side of cole slaw and corn that the dish normally comes with. And I ordered the lobster and crab bisque as an appetizer before the meal. The soup was excellent! I loved it and could've ate another bowl of it. The seafood platter that came out was HUGE. It was plenty for the two of us - each getting a crab claw, plenty of shrimp, clams, crawfish and mussels. The sausage and potatoes left some to be desired because there was no seasoning on the potatoes and my boyfriend mentioned that the sausage was just a regular sausage, not a kielbasa. The clams seems a little overcooked but I loved the crab legs, mussels and shrimp. The hushpuppies were DELISH! The meals are served on paper products with plastic silverware, drinks were served in styrofoam and you had rolls of paper towel at the tables. The only real silverware was the nut cracker and fork for the crab legs. Considering the feel of the restaurant and that they are a seafood joint, I get it. Less to clean and let's face it...seafood can get messy. Overall, we were happy with our visit! My favorites of the meal were the lobster and crab bisque, mussels, crab legs, shrimp and hushpuppies. We left full and satisfied. Our waitress was friendly and continued to check on us even after our food was served, even providing lids for our cups so we could take our drinks to go. If you're looking for a nice or fancy chain restaurant, this isn't it. We definitely wanted local and we got it. This place reminds me of a beach local feel that I get in Charleston, SC. I'd recommend it to friends and would visit again! read more

Sting Ray's is a great seafood restaurant on Tybee Island. I was there with a large party of 11 and they easily and promptly catered it. We chose Sting Ray's over Crab Shack because they offered more variety of seafood. I had the Fisherman's Platter which is a huge assortment of fried seafood. I was proud to finish it. Unfortunately the food did take quite some time to come out. I think I had 3 beers before the entrees were served. Also someone ordered the soft-shell crab sandwich but the waiter was unaware that it was unavailable at the time. So when she re-ordered the food arrived 10 minutes later waaaayyy before anyone else's food arrived. When the food arrived it was all at once (except for the sandwich mentioned previously) and we all ate to our satisfaction. It was all quite good and no one expressed complaints. I have to mention, there is only 1 bathroom! So there's always a line. During our dinner there was a man playing guitar who sang Johnny Cash songs like no one I've ever heard. He sounded excellent. While passing the restaurant later I heard him again so he must be there often. Definitely recommend coming here over the Crab Shack. read more

I usually dine here by myself while working on the island. Food is almost always good, but tonight was the worst. They shoved me at the bar after telling the hostess 3 times. I am here for the food I am not here to drink I have to drive back home. Hostest still shoved me in the rowdy bar area. The waitress and bartenders ignored me and finally I got tired of being bothered by drunks thinking I am there to mingle. A gay man decided he want to help the waitress out which really made me uncomfortable and delivered my drinks DRUNK this made me very uncomfortable because I felt like my softdrink could have been spiked. You need to put lids on the drinks at the bar. Plus why would the bar tender give my drinks to be delivered by another customer who is drunk. I needed to use the restroom and I when I got back there were people sitting at my table after explaining to staff I was just going to the restroom. I walked out.
