We ate our 1st meal on Tybee Isl here and are thrilled with our choice! Sitting on the deck enjoying a steamer of shrimp & Alaskan crab legs, the house Pinot Noir, a beer and some fresh, local buffalo shrimp was an amazing way to orient ourselves to the area. The cost of our meal was very reasonable, our server was attentive yet not intrusive and when it got chilly, the Manager was quick to come out and light the patio heaters without having to even be asked! The only reason we didn't grant Sting Ray's a 5th star is that they may want to control the bird population that preys on your food when dining outdoors. Another reason I would grant them a 5th star on our future visit is if we see that they have converted their plates to a more eco-friendly material than styrofoam. read more

My fiancé and I always stop by here when we are on Tybee. We get the stingrays platter & share it. The food is great, and so is the atmosphere. Try and not sit directly by the live music though, as it is too loud to hear and speak with anyone-- including the waitresses. I've been to Sting Ray's 6 or 7 times over the last few years. I'm a single teacher mom and I travel once or twice a year to Tybee Island with my 2 little ones. My kids love fresh seafood and wanted steamed oysters today after we left the beach. We headed to Sting Ray's. I ordered 2 dozen steamed oysters. They came to us raw so the server politely took them back to the kitchen to be steamed. No problems with the servers. The oysters came back less than dime size. Very disappointed to say the least. We didn't complain but I left paying a $50 bill with 2 hungry kids. I wish the kitchen would have recommend something else if the oysters were not the best or given us a discount when they saw the result. Need a really good reason to go back. read more

This is a place that we often visit when we come to Tybee Island. It has a good atmosphere would live music on the outside deck and really good seafood. The only annoying thing was that the table was dirty and had to constantly ask the waiter for items such as a fork to eat with, refills, and paper towels. We had the cobia, fried shrimp, chicken fingers, fried oysters and fried scallops. The food was very tasty and generous portions. The iced tea was wonderful and the atmosphere with live music made it all worthwhile. read more

We went to Stingrays as a party of 11 and thoroughly enjoyed our server Henry! Many of us have been waiters/waitresses before and saw how hard he worked! The food was amazing! Amazing what the power of advertising will do. I read up on it, and decided to give it a whirl. The advertising made this look like the place to go. ...its not. It is for some of the loud regulars, but not worth the time if you're only here for a week. If, according to their advertising hype, this place is: "Best Island Fare for 6 years", "Voted Tybee's Best Seafood" and, per their drink menu: "Best Margaritas", then the great people of Tybee Island live quite a sheltered life. The taste of the Margarita was overpowered by the obvious commercial bottled mix. Don't bother going for a real meal. ...bar food, maybe. Good Luck! read more

I did not want to give this place a bad review. I'm giving two stars because the last time we came for dinner it was a decent experience. That was a year ago. We haven't paid for the bill yet and I can't wait any longer to post the review. It took over an hour to get our food. On my "out of the fryer plate" there was no cole slaw, so I asked if it was suppose to come with it and the girl that brought it out said no. I looked it up on their menu and it said it did. On the 1/2 pd of fried shrimp that I ordered, there were 6 shrimp. Everyone's boiled seafood was over cooked. No silverware was brought out until we asked twice. Just not good when I'm lied to by someone who brings out every single plate and knows what should be on it. Not a good experience...Just got the bill and it was incorrect, mom was charged for an extra margarita. Dad order a side salad, which on the menu said $2 to sub. It was $2.95 and she said we must have had a different menu and that they don't sub anymore. We have seen tables come and go since we have been sitting here and we ordered immediately when the server came to greet us. When you are seated first and order first you should not be the last to leave with 3 tables around you getting there after you and leaving before you. We weren't even given all our change back from paying the bill. Just crazy. read more

Went for dinner last night, was a little busy when we arrived, we had 14 people, knew we would wait which was fine. Was quoted 45 minutes, we waited an hour and a half to be seated. Multiple parties after us were sat first which again understandable when they were smaller tables. They proceeded to seat a 12 top that came in AFTER us who had only been waiting 30 minutes at the most. We asked the hostess if they had an idea on time, the ladies got rude and rolled their eyes, told my aunt "we don't know, can't give you a time". We finally got sat and we were split up which we had suggested was fine when we put our name on the list, no big deal. It was busy but we proceeded to watch 3 tables of 6+ people get their food and eat and leave before we ever got ours one of which was seated after us. I understand everything is cooked to order here but the fact we waited another HOUR or more for our food was ridiculous. They offered a side order of fries or hushpuppies for the inconvenience which we took them up on the hushpuppies that they proceeded to then charge us for. I had 3 drinks, 2 of them amazing, 1 that tasted awful, I know they have a policy of no returns on specialty drinks which at the price of $10+ is understandable but when it tastes like straight gasoline I feel like maybe you should still offer something in return? But that's just me. The whole evening took from 545 when we checked in our group at the hostess until 10pm when we finally left. And for the price we paid, the crab was over boiled and the shells didn't even crack trying to open them they just mashed in. The peel and eat shrimp was good, corn amazing, side salad was meh. Crab Balls appetizers was pretty decent as well. But otherwise the whole experience was less than subpar. read more

While visiting Tybee Beach, we saw Sting Rays and decided to give it a try. I'm glad we did! It was my first time ordering gumbo and I didn't know what to expect. The gumbo was delicious! I expected the sausage and chicken to be large pieces but everything was small and fit on the spoon. Our order of hush puppies were great. My spouse ordered 1/2 dozen oysters, along with he gumbo. She said they were fresh but stronger than oysters she's had in the past. We sat outside and enjoyed the ocean breeze. Our overall impression was, top notch. read more

Once the order was taken we saw the waitress once when she handed my husband his beer then she skipped out on us. I wanted to order a takeout but we couldn't get anyone to the table. The Fried crab & fried shrimp combo as great! The salad was fresh. Red potatoes are a Great substitute for the fries. I loved the dill tartar sauce! The hush puppies were fantastic! The margaritas are the best I've had at any restaurant. And believe you me I'm an expert on margaritas as it is my favorite cocktail. They stay extremely busy during peak times, so you'll have to be patient with a so-so service. read more

Visited Tybee Island for the day, locals told us about this place. Great food, live music, patio and indoor seating. Brought the pooch along, was able to sit on deck. Ordered 1/2 pound shrimp, side salmon and it was delicious. Recommended for quick and/or sit down. read more

Went there on my son's recommendation with the family. Started with a dozen oysters in the half shell which were very good. My son ordered his favorite bucket of oysters. Food was very good. Prices were very reasonable for seafood . Service was also very good. Only drawback is very very limited parking. Overall an excellent place for seafood. read more

Me and my wife just stood in line 15 minutes waiting to be seated. There were several tables available and staff walked by us more than once and never spoke. Now mind you we were the third couple in line. The couple ahead of us got tired of waiting because like I said not one staff member spoke to even the ones waiting in the front of the line. We checked out Sting Rays while we were in town for a wedding. It was...interesting. We were greeted by a very friendly guy at the hostess stand outside. He asked us how we were doing, how many in our party, etc. then he stated laughing and said he didn't work there, but he'd get the hostess for us. When she came up she never greeted us, asked any questions, didn't really a acknowledge us at all. She got the information from the guy, grabbed menus, and walked away. He let us know we were suppose to follow her. Ohhh-k! We shared a table on the patio and listened to some music while we ate. The weather was nice and the music was fun. This seemed to be a happening place because they were pretty busy with what appeared to be tourists and locals. Our service was pretty slow and the food was just ok. We shared a soup and a seafood platter with crab legs and boiled shrimp. The shrimp were overlooked so the shells were hard to peel. The soup didn't have much seafood, but heavy flour in the base so it had that chalky taste. We probably wouldn't try Sting Rays again unless we were going for drinks and entertainment on the deck. read more

There aren't that many good seafood restaurants to eat at on Tybee island. We read the reviews and decided this was the place for lunch. They were very busy at lunch time so we had about a 20 min. wait which wasn't too bad. The food was good not great. I ordered the seafood platter and my wife got the fish and chips. We were just enjoying our meal when we noticed a few tables away that someone had a small dog at their table in their lap. It would have been OK but, when she let it eat off the table that was just too much. I'm not a dog hater but, there is a limit and that was disgusting. I asked the server if that was allowed and he just shrugged and said well I guess some people really like their dogs. If this place is going to allow this kind of behavior they should post a sign and then seat pet people in a separate section away from those who don't care to eat with a pet. I will not recommend this place nor will I ever come back here. If there was a rating of less than 1 star I would give it a -5. read more

Not the best, nothing to remember about the bland food, and slow service. The food can be compared to going to Walmart, buying items out of the frozen seafood section, then taking it home, throwing it in the microwave, adding some lemon decorations...then you have what is served here. We ate outside, constantly pestered by the flies diving into my plate. I will not eat here again, unless I have a hang over, which is very rare indeed. read more
