I get it was New Years Eve, and the staff was working their butts off to get the around-the-restaurant line of takeout orders out. But after not receiving our food for nearly an hour after our pickup time, we came home to cold, under-cooked food. All of the meat was disgustingly inedible, ribs completely pink. If you literally can't fulfil all your orders, to the point where food isn't being prepared safely, that is a serious problem. Confidently can say we will never eat here again. read more

One my 1st visit, I was thrown off by the ordering of the food upon entry into the restaurant. I expected someone to take my order at my table based on the size & style of this restaurant. Instead it felt like I was ordering at a "fast food" location since you have to pay first and then find your own table. Then you need to get & refill your own drinks from the beverage station. And don't forget your napkins, utensils or extra plates. Before you leave, the boxes for taking extra food home are also located over there. After visiting more often and eating their consistently delicious food, I finally got over this mental obstacle of mine. They also helped me get over it by bringing the food over to us. And they ask you if you'd like to wait on receiving the dessert until you're done eating the meal. That part of the service I like. Our family dines in every time we visit but they also offer takeout via phone or online ordering. They also have an extensive catering menu (see pic). Everything on the menu is Freshly prepared & Simply delicious but here are my absolute favorites that you will love : Best Entres Mesquite BBQ tri tip steak is very flavorful !! So ultimately disappointed with the quality, presentation and cost of food. I used to go here on Sundays to meet my niece after work. They had a great stimulus deal that fed my entire family. This of course is gone along with staple items and content. I ordered a petite Cobb salad and was told they no longer have blue cheese dressing. Say what now. A staple dressing gone. 3 of their wines were gone. The amount of salad was gone. I used to share a petite as it came in a bowl and now it's on a small salad plate not meant for sharing but the cost went up. My friends and I wanted wood ranch but it was packed so we went to stonefire grill. The food was absolutely dog shit. The food is just as expensive as wood ranch but you have to do all the work getting the food and then the food come out cold and tastes like the inside of a donkeys ass hole. We ordered Cobb salad with chicken, south west salad with tri tip, BBQ beef (tri tip) and beef and cheese sandwich (tri tip and provolone ) with cowboy beans and bread sticks. We dropped in here on our way to a tournament fir a late dinner. They had a special of tri-tip, pizza, breadsticks and salad for 4. $24.99. I wasn't expecting much but the food was quick and really quite amazing. I never hold much hope for pizza from a really diverse place but it was awesome. Everyone in the entire city goes here for takeout but it's also great for dine in as well, especially when you have young kids because it's so loud and nobody really cares. The alcohol is so inexpensive that it makes it worth it to dine in. I love their garlic salmon and chicken. So amazing and healthy. They will also switch out any allergens or ingredients. They do need to improve their app however because I have an account that should be able to rack up points but the app doesn't recognize it and really I feel that the app should have points tied to it in general. I shouldn't have a separate account where I carry a card around, it should just be tied to an app. And on one of the weekends I made my order on the app and it closed me out and said that this weekend was too busy so I had to call them directly which was such a bad customer experience. Matt and I drove to Thousand Oaks to meet his family for Father's Day lunch. Matt was expecting to drop a hefty sum of money on the meal, but his dad was nice and suggested Stonefire Grill. The total for five people came out to less than $80, and we ate pretty well. The place was easily recognizable as a chain restaurant, but I liked it. It had a sunny, happy atmosphere, buzzing with family chatter. The set-up was interesting. The restaurant was huge, but all ordering was done at a register as soon as we walked in. We took numbers and food was brought to our tables. The feel of the place was more sit-down than typical for counter service restaurants, and this suited us well. The service was fantastic. We were helped by this high school kid who was so friendly and helpful it kind of made me hopeful for the future of our country. He took our order for five people with a smile the whole way through, even as we piled on particulars and dietary restrictions. Once we sat down, food came out quickly enough, and the servers on that end were also great. The food was fine. Nothing I'd go out looking for, but it was perfectly fine. I had a quarter chicken and ribs combo, which came with a side salad. It was $12 and gigantic, served on a plain metal tray. I got the chicken with lemon garlic, and it was dry but edible. The ribs were better, pretty tasty with plenty of meat. I ordered a cartwheel salad as my side. It was fine, kind of boring even with a colorful mix of garbanzo beans, beet strips, radish, olive, lettuce, and cilantro vinaigrette. I also tried some of Matt's sesame glazed salmon, and it was legitimately tasty. The fish was moist and I liked the Asian sauce. Also good were the breadsticks sprinkled with garlic and cheese. Garlic and cheese are always good news. While Stonefire Grill isn't the type of place I go to often, I had a good lunch and would probably bring kids around if I had them. Wow, what a unique experience! My wife and I were looking for a place that was kind of casual with decent food without having to get dressed up. From the outside of the building it seemed a bit upscale but through one of the windows we saw someone drinking out of a togo cup. As we walked up to the front door we encountered...a counter, to order from. It took us by surprise but we grabbed a menu quickly and decided on sharing babyback ribs, 1/2 of a BBQ chicken and sides of garlic cheese mashed potatoes and bbq beans. Even though we had to seat ourselves the booths and tables seemed like we were at a sitdown restaurant. We didn't have one single server but we did receive promt service and our food came out very fast. We didn't know how much to order but it became evident that we ordered too much food. the ribs and chicken each came with salad. the ribs were well done and the chicken was moist. The bbq sauce was pretty tasty with a little bit of tang. The potatoes complimented the food well although the beans were a bit soupy. Overall the food was good and priced fairly. The portions were generous and the service was good. We spent arount $40 for the two of us and easily could have spent $30 and been very satisfied. The casual dining atmosphere mixed well with the upscale look of the restaurant. Next time I plan on trying the tri tip because another table ordered it and it looked really good. read more

They hosted our daughter's birthday dinner here after painting in the same center as Color Me Mine. We want to thank Tyler for his amazing kindness and service, as he was great to work with!! He is truly focused on customer service and satisfaction, and is an amazing member of your team. We had someone with dietary restrictions, and they made sure to prepare something for her, that she was able to eat. They did an awesome job on this special order, and have nothing but good things to say about them. Also, we got the party pack for 20, and we had about 25 people there. We had so many leftovers, of tri-tip, chicken, and cole slaw, that many people took bags to go. Even after that, we still had about one entire tri tip left and about 25% of the chicken. The only thing that you want to order extra of, is the breadsticks, as they are heaven on earth when it comes to eating them. A very interesting business model. Spend all your money on decor so that it looks like a well appointed full service new American style bistro, hire and train some really nice staff then open your doors and serve basically fast food. Walking up to Stonefire Grill you will see a stylish restaurant with plenty of stone accents and even a wall of fire burning in front of their main window - nice. Att first glance the inside is just as well appointed; dark woods in a craftsman style decor. As your eyes adjust to the lighting, however, you will see counters where you place your food order (albeit nice stylish counters) before sitting down next to the self-serve soda machine and silverware bar. Stonefire Grill is located off Hwy 101 and after a gruelingly long drive from San Luis Obispo, I was ready for dinner. Tired and hungry, I truly appreciated how pleasant and helpful the staff at Stonefire Grill treated me. This was true throughout the evening including the time I spent trying to eat their food. Stonefire's food is not bad but it is not good either. I had their Boneless Chicken Breast. It came with a choice of seasonings, I had the garlic. It also came with a salad and two breadsticks. For ten bucks- that is not bad - that is if you don't want flavor. Not a problem, I thought, let me just douse some hot sauce and I'm good to go. Unfortunately, they did not have hot sauce! WTH!? What restaurant doesn't have hot sauce? The salad was not quite fresh and was smothered with a dressing that overpowered the entire affair. The tortilla soup was served luke warm, thick like gravy and salty like sea water. I sent it back to the kitchen. They cheerfully refunded my money (you have to pay before you sit down), was very apologetic and offered to replace the soup for free and treat me to a free dessert. No Thanks. Next time? I will make sure I am not hungry through this stretch of the highway. read more

I've been a fan of this place for some time, but finally had some time to write a review. My mother has a bad allergy to shell fish and shrimp and I have one to ginger and black pepper. This is really one of the only places that my mom can eat out at. My favorites here include the tri tip and chicken. they've added an amazing grilled cauliflower with a lemon tahini dressing - it's a true delight! Their coleslaw is delicious and very different from the standard. Staff is attentive and on some nights they are slammed. My favorite way to order for 4 people? Get the half pound of tri-tip for only $13.99 ala carte, then add the sides you want. GREAT DEAL! Portions here are fairly large. One of my favorite places to go!! read more

We came here for a pick-up. Kudos! The pick-up aspect worked like a well oiled machine. The order was ready and included EVERYTHG, which can be a challenge when ordering for 15 people. I really like the Stonefire food, they make a great pizza and salad. I really like their Tri-Tip, which is sliced thin, well-cooked to my liking, and has no fat (A). Update on my previous reviews! I had the pleasure of super counter service from Jules and great phone service, complete with a sense of humor, from Jacob. Unfortunately, though all the food was prepared beautifully, the packaging this time really fell short, and the lemon garlic chicken breast dinner leaked all over everything. I called the restaurant, spoke to a second Jacob, also very nice, who gave me to manager Ryan. Ryan could NOT have been nicer OR more accommodating, patiently listening to my complaint and also taking care of the dinner, which was a greasy disaster! I should add that it is not that the food is greasy, it is the olive oil in the marinade which had covered everything, soaked the breadsticks, and made a real mess. Because this had happened before, I had warned the order takers about it so they could make sure it didn't leak. That's why I was so frustrated and decided enough was enough! I posted a pic of the inside of the bag. I am truly pleased that Ryan was willing to go the extra mile to accommodate a regular customer, and in my book, that kind of management makes this a 5 star restaurant! You still have a waiter/waitress come by and ask how the food is. Or if you want another drink etc. But they take your order up front. Then you get a number and put it on your table. The seating here is great and has many options with booths and tables. The outside seating is nice and shaded. They also have outside heaters. The price is slightly high. But for it's geographical location it makes sense I suppose. Anyways.... moving onto the food. Ribs. WOW smoked for a proper amount of time and seared on the grill perfectly. Ribs are an art and Stonefire grill knows how to do it right!. The seasoning is perfect, the flavor is mouth watering and the smell is enjoyable. Chicken. The chicken is cooked perfectly. Not dry and not under cooked at all. Chicken is chicken... but they do their own thing here. It's seasoned well and not to overpowering with any type of marinating process. It's light and it's good. Tri-tip. I usually get it medium rare and what do you know? it actually comes out medium rare. What a concept. Cooks in the back actually knowing how to cook!? what the!? lol. Excellent job guys! Garlic mashed potatoes. Oh em gee. YES! these are done right! finally a place that knows how to make this right. This package includes a Half Tri Tip (Mesquite BBQ or Pepper Garlic), a small salad (Garden, Caesar, Cartwheel or Greek), a small side (Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Nutty Coleslaw, Cowboy Beans or Cauliflower Salad) and 4 Baked Breadsticks. The Mesquite BBQ Tri Tip was decent. I'm a very picky meat eater so I only had two slices and it was alright. We had it done medium. The cartwheel didn't look very fresh and was lacking flavor. The mashed potatoes were very delicious and so the breadsticks were good. Besides the Tri Tip Special, we also ordered their whole roasted cauliflower which has tahini poured over it. This is not part of the special and it's only $5.99 but tastes AMAZING. It was the tastiest thing on the table. Everything was okay overall but nothing special as far as flavors, just very "chain restaurant" like, except for the cauliflower mmm. But considering the portions and the price, it's great. Our table could have easily fed 4 people. We had two huge to go boxes and we were really full. The restaurant is very big and the service is great. They were very very busy and we still got seated venue quickly. Parking lot is big and no issues with that despite how busy it is. They have a full bar so that's always a plus. You wait in line, order in front, find a table, help yourself to the sofa fountain and food comes out on round, aluminum pizza trays. But the food is delicious. The breadsticks are the absolute best. Get the large basket. Always. The mac n' cheese is amazing (but the downside is that you can't order it as a side to a protein - you have to order a big bowl - darn). Tri tip and chicken always come out perfectly. The mashed potatoes have whole cloves of roasted garlic. The grilled chicken pesto sandwich is slathered in cheese and green pesto sauce. Yum. Even the salads are creative. Dark leafy greens mixed with a variety of vegetables and dressings. A family favorite is the BBQ chopped salad. The only salad I don't like is the Italian chopped salad - I think they put diced mint in the mix and it's really odd. Fair warning - salad portions are huge. A small could easily feed 2 or more. I was very impressed. They are set up as a regular restaurant and the only difference is that you order up front when you enter like a fast food restaurant. The decor is pretty nice. They have indoor and outdoor seating which is a plus. You have to get your own plates and silverware. The tri-trip, greek salad and garlic sticks were excellent and not too expensive. The Thousand Oaks Stonefire is the best of all of the locations that I've been to. The manager is friendly, efficient, and very helpful. The staff is quick and, even though this is a very busy location, the service is on point. Their salads are great - the chopped bbq tri-tip salad is just delicious and my favorite. They also have a chopped bbq chicken salad that is very good, and their Caesar salad is also extremely good. A large salad comfortably feeds 4 very hungry people. The tri-tip and the ribs are the best items on the menu. Don't bother with the chicken (in my opinion), the ribs and tri-tip are much better. And the value is excellent as you get plenty of food for the money - perfect for families. I know that some people love their breadsticks but I think they are just "meh". Not worth the calories.
