Stoney Point is a long-time favorite of ours, going back many many years. It's got such an odd location (all right, such a charming location) that I often forget it's there. They're back! The Friday Night piano player is there, the food is delicious with large portions, and the prices are very, very reasonable for such a high quality meal. Stoney Point has done away with the unnecessary valet parking too, which is fine by me. All in all, a romantic meal at a reasonable price, with great music and a wonderful ambiance. I love this restaurant. The food is delicious, the cocktails are strong, and it feels like a family owned restaurant in the best way. It has a small town vibe, which makes it extra charming, plus they regularly have a live pianist which is awesome. It doesn't have the biggest wine list, or the largest selection of booze options but it does what it does well - not pretentious, it just is what it is, proudly. The staff is super nice, the vibe fancy but friendly, perfect for date night. On our last visit, we started with Manhattans which were strong and delicious (and served with a maraschino cherry - like I said, small town vibe). We had the Sterling Sauvignon Blanc with dinner - delicious! Then we had the caesar salad and crab cakes. My husband had the spaghetti with shrimp (forget the name on the menu) - what?! It was so good, so much garlic flavor and very rich and delicious (not a cream sauce). I wished I had ordered what he got even though I had the tortellini which I always like. I also regularly order the Duck l'orange, Penne Alla Vodka, and the Sand Dabs. We also had the tiramisu last night which we very much enjoyed. Just go, and enjoy! read more

Welcome to old school! We've driven past this place so many times we had to try it but we went sight unseen hoping for an adventure and were not disappointed. Love the fact that there are still restaurants like this. From the piano bar to the formal wear wait staff to the white cloth tables, this place has it down. The food was good, better than I had expected. The server brought a complimentary tomato bruschetta to start, which was delicious. We had the endive salad and crab cakes. The salad was great, the crab cakes were ok. I had the lobster ravioli, it was ok too. For dessert we had the tiramisu, it was pretty good. The service was good, the servers are super friendly. I had driven by this place countless times but had yet to try it. From the exterior I really wasn't clear what to expect inside. It's lovely on the inside. A bit intimate and the food is excellent. I enjoyed a lovely chicken piccata dish. Overall everyone I dined with loved the food. I'll be sure to visit again. Went to Stoney Point for take out last night. The roasted half duck a l'orange was exceptional, perfectly crisp on the outside and moist and delicious on the inside. The orange sauce with peel is amazing. The carrots broccoli and mashed potatoes are the perfect accompaniment. $30 The lamb chops with mustard sauce were incredible. I asked for medium and they were perfectly cooked. You get 4 generous oh so tasty lollipop chops. $35 Best dinner in a long time. read more

Thr food is overpriced for bland dated dishes. The menu and the food minded me of average catered wedding food from a chain hotel. The bread tasted like it was microwaved. The pasta was not handmade nor fresh, and it is tasted like the cheap generic brand of dry pasta you get at budget buffets. The wine list, nevermind there is no wine list, it is always suspect when they don't list the makers of the wine, it makes me wonder if I ordering Carlo did Rossi marked up. The dessert is not made at this restaurant, it made by a mass produce supplier, the restaurant just defrosts it. The clientele is old boring white people who think black pepper is spicy. The service was friendly. The ambience reminiscent of the conference/meeting room at a Doubletree hotel. Overall I was unimpressed and do not recommend. read more

I've eaten here three times. Twice it was outstanding. The third time not so much. Generally, the restaurant has felt warm and nice. Occasionally the bar area, which has regular dining tables right next to it, has people yelling really loud, as they try to talk over the extremely loud piano player. And then there's the occasional person who gets up next to the piano player, and starts singing at the top of their lungs and they're not part of the entertainment. This makes it a challenge to be a beautiful restaurant where you're having any kind of conversation, because in sections of the restaurant, you can't hear the person, whom you're sitting two feet away from, when they're trying to have a conversation. But that's besides the point. This is about a bad food experience on my third occasion. They have a pork dish on the menu which look great as the pork with stuffed with some prosciutto and mozzarella. The cooked part was lovely, however part of this pork was a little bit raw with red blood. When the waiter came by he simply asked if I wanted them to take it back into the kitchen and cook it some more. There are two problems. One, it's against health code regulations to bring food back into the kitchen, after you've already been eating part of it. Two, the waiter didn't offer any change or redo of the dish. The weight staff is typically fantastic at this restaurant, but in this case he simply didn't get nice with me until it was time for me to give a tip. On my way out, I raised the issue with the manager. She tried to instill the same tactics, where is she indicated? I should have let them take it back into the kitchen and when I told her that was a health code violation she then changed her tune and said I should have requested another dish. I find that odd. My dinner at Stoney Point Restaurant this past weekend reminded me of a saying about Downtown L.A. restaurants in the 1980's: The food was bad, the service was bad, but at least it was expensive! This was my wife's and my second dinner at Stoney Point. The first dinner was with a Pasadena local and all was good all the way around. Tonight we tried it on our own (with another couple), and the restaurant misfired on all cylinders. At best the food was mediocre and very unmemorable. Every restaurant has an off night, but the service was also not good, with attitude to the point of confrontational. I'm an old school merchant where the customer is always right even when their not. A customer is spending their hard earned money and deserve the best a place can offer. This was not the case at Stoney Point. At the end of the meal, we all felt cheated and mistreated. My very consistent 20%-25% tip dwindled to a paltry 10% (and my wife was mad at me for leaving that much) and a pledge by all NEVER to return. Not good food, a fight and a shockingly expensive dinner made this experience a bad time for all! BTW - Downtown L.A. has shook-off that saying of the 1980's and has turned into a "Go To" place for terrific food and a good time. read more

Nice place. Always fun. Lovely old school vibe. The jazz piano makes it great. Prosiciutto con melone = oh so tasty on a hot day. Dry prosecco = perfect start to the meal! Nice gift of four small servings of bruschetta to complete the starters. One could wish for a better quality olive oil...but one could wish for many things and find one is better off enjoying the pretty darn good stuff one has. So, thank you, Stoney Point, for the absolutely fine bruschetta. We enjoyed it! My duck was fabulous. The side baby vegetables perfectly cooked. I'd have it all again if I didn't want to try so many other dishes on the menu. My wife's clams (spaghetti vongole) were pretty good. Pasta could have been a bit more al dente. Sister's dish won the day: yum yum yum for the Penne San Remo! Dad's salmon was not bad at all. Excellent butter. Don't laugh. It's hard to find such tasty butter in the USA. Nice to spread some on the pretty good bread and enjoy between courses. Tiramisu served gratis for Sister's birthday. That was not only a nice touch -- it was DELICIOUS TIRAMISOU. We will be back and we will order that dessert! Wow -- Sis cleaned up this night. She deserved to; it was her birthday, after all. Wine was a bit disappointing. I tried to order a bottle of Barolo. Waiter said it was the only bottle on the list not available. He returned ten mins later ...okay, I flagged him down ten mins later... and asked for a Nebbiolo. Oooops...it was clear the wait staff was working extra hard. Down a worker, perhaps? Waiter explained that he didn't think they had that wine upstairs and it would be a while to get it from the basement. He suggested a montepulciano d'abruzzo. I should have accepted his suggestion, it turns out. The nebbiolo remained tight, refusing to share any secret flavors even though we decanted it (flagged down waiter's assistant) and waited for it to breathe....and breathe... and breathe as we sipped slowly, hoping for more, all night. So this is heaven's waiting room. We went in for an early dinner and came across all the gummers in the neighborhood. We actually found it quite charming that everyone seemed to know everyone. When we left there was even a patron pinching the cheek of a waiter. I hope they were friends. My husband and I got the pasta--bolognese and penne vodka. Both were fine. Service was pretty attentive. They gave us a complimentary bruschetta bite to start and their bread service was piping hot. I don't know if I would return but our experience there was fine. read more

I really wanted to love this place. I pictured an old school dark bar eatery with stiff drinks a big portions. I was sadly wrong. It was bright and old school but more in a 90's old sort of way. II started with a drink and it was fine. The clam chowder was ok but the portion for 9 dollars was off. The waiter convinced me to get the special which was pasta and meatloaf. The pasta portion was very small and not great with an over garlicky sauce. It was two of us and it was 128 without tip or dessert. Maybe a 65 dollar meal. I'd rather spend the money on food I love. They really need to update the menu at least experiment a little. The service was good. read more

We just had our dream wedding reception at Stoney Point. The entire process was easy and I'm really glad about how everything turned out. Everyone at the restaurant is kind and they really want their customers to have the best experience. They even went above and beyond before the reception to help us organize our menu and even checked in with me before printing the menus to ensure it was exactly what we wanted. The food is amazing. Everyone at our party was really happy with the food. The drinks are great and .... not watered down :) and they have a full selection. The room and setup were beautiful and we got really great photos in the space and with their lighting. The service is spectacular and they go above and beyond to make sure that you have anything that you want. They perfectly worked with our florist and cake shop to ensure that everything was in place and ready for our arrival. During the reception, they made sure that everyone was taken care of. The owners made sure to congratulate us on our big day, complimented my husband and me on how great we looked, and even took time to speak with our family which I really appreciate from their family-run business. It was a Saturday night so they had a piano player and the beautiful music lightly flooded into our reception, not too loud. Also, when I entered the main restaurant space, everyone in the restaurant took notice and clapped and congratulated me on my nuptials and the piano player started playing an impromptu wedding song for me. So kind. Even the next day, Roberta, the owner's daughter, messaged me to say congrats and to say that her mother told her how beautiful I looked. We feel really great about choosing Stoney Point for our big event and we have no regrets. We have already decided to go back annually for our anniversary and we will highly recommend this restaurant to our friends for a fancy date night or for any event. The only bad thing is that I've lived nearby for 6 years and it took me this long to find Stoney Point. It's a true local gem. read more

For years we've lived in the neighborhood and we made a reservation for Valentines Day. I get a call from a rude guy with a bad English accent confirming our reservation 4 days before and he adds that we are on a time limit at our table because they are so busy (of course it Valentines!) and we have to leave at a certain time! This really makes me feel welcome and as a first timer really doesn't make me want to patronize your restaurant! Poor customer service even before we walk into their old doors! I have to say, it felt a little like stepping back in time, the kind of family run places with candlelit tables that my parents would take me to dinner as a child. The food is simple, but well done. My husband raved about the duck with cranberry sauce. I especially liked the complimentary bruschetta that arrived shortly after we were seated. Wait staff are formal in an old-fashioned way, but still very pleasant and attentive--as evidenced by their repeatedly topping off my prosecco and a hearty "Buono appetito!" when serving our dishes. Tip: I would recommend making reservations on a Friday. They have a pianist that performs that night and we were lucking to get a table for two on the fly. read more

Well, well, well. Another quiet little spot west of Pasadena keeping a low profile but a secret well known by the neighborhood locals. Upon seating they bring you a small Bruschetta (which I had to salt, and it could have used a little balsamic as well as a heartier bread). They also soon bring you a big slab of Italian bread with some butter. The service really is quite impeccable at this place, and they know how to pace the food so they aren't delivering one dish while you're still working on the previous one (a pet peeve of mine). The french onion soup, and crab cakes with a small salad weren't bad. But I'm warning you about their very decadent cannelloni ... this is a very RICH dish. The waiter asked if I wanted Parmesan cheese sprinkled on it---hello, YES!!!---and confirmed it was freshly grated. The cannelloni crepe was perfect, melted in your mouth, one hardly knew it was there to hold the spinach and ricotta filling. The Bechamel sauce was touched with a small amount of marinara which, when mixed as a result of eating the dish, created a really delicate and lovely flavor. It was so rich that I had to ask for a tiny serving of their lemon sorbetto just to cleanse my palate. When they brought the dessert menu I asked which items they made on the premises and the waiter said they made EVERYTHING there in their kitchen. I was tempted by the Tiramisu but ended up trying the tarte tatin which was served at the perfect temperature --- just warm enough to SLOWLY melt the ice-cream. As one of the first diners to arrive, I rather enjoyed the crooning male vocal playing in the background and thought it could be a rather relaxing or romantic spot for a couple to have dinner. At 6:30 p.m. the piano player arrived and I was rather charmed to find such a thing as live music. I did worry a bit when an obvious local tipped him before he started playing and asked for "Anchors Away" (which the pianist then moved into South Pacific theme songs), but then realized the guest's judgment was sound when he approached and asked if I was single. I was sorry to dash his hopes :), but enormously flattered. If nothing else, that made my dinner worth the trip :) read more

Very old (school) Italian restaurant that would die a quick death without its very old customer base and history. Old fashioned was made without effort and ice from your home. House Pinot Grigio obviously low cost and too heavy. Cioppino was very good and slightly spicy with seafood that was not at all overcooked. read more

This is a review from last night only. I've been here once before and the food was decent and don't recall any issues with service. HOWEVER, last night was a completely different set of circumstances and therefore the lower score. First off, I was served a very moldy piece of triple mouse cake. I tasted it in the first bite. I thought the bits of mold were originally nuts perhaps, and I confess, my near-sightedness is getting worse. Nevertheless I could taste it and after inspection by me and my friend, it was clearly mold all across the inner top part of the cake. I ordered something else. While I don't go looking for being compensated for mishaps, I would have appreciated an apology of some kind but none came. None from the waiter and none by management whom I never bothered to discuss with. My decaf cappuccino on the other hand was delish. Really good as far as coffee goes. Two of the three waiters that were around attending were kind and respectful. One was clearly hateing his life. Only when we left, did the manager come out and say "thank you." Really??? This begins and ends with bad service. The server cut the cake, returned the cake, and didn't say a word to the manager. Yes, I could have complained but then that just ends up making me look bad somehow I"m sure. Outside of that the clientele here are 70+ and not my vibe although I am hardly thatfar behind. Definitely not my go-to place but rather a place like it was for us yesterday....a last resort for some coffee and dessert without having to go into town. read more

In the mood for French onion soup. A nice job but would have like a little more onions. The special of the day was swordfish. Really moist with a nice caper butter sauce. The mashed potatoes were creamy and buttery. The penne with vodka sauce is a must order again on next visit. I was disappointed in the dessert. I don't think they made in house. I kind of equate to something you buy at Costco. It was good but nothing special. read more

I am fooled by 4 star review of Yelp. I don't think the food and service deserves 4 stars. Pasta was over cooked and carelessly made. Crabcake appetizer was served after 3 minutes of ordering it. (Scary). I am not even commenting about the venue and environment. I am only commenting about food which deserves 2 stars. They also placed the table and seating in front of exit door which I believe is violation of local fire code. read more

Two thumbs up. This is hands down one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to. The prices are bit more than the restaurants with pizza ovens but you'll get quality you can taste here. Now I had the special Italian meatloaf, which may or may not be on menu but let me tell you it was OMG good. My wife had a rigatoni dish that she enjoyed. The wait staff was top notch, bar tender spot on and the piano guy was a nice touch. This is a great date night or entertaining friends spot. This is a solid option for a special evening. read more
